“We are so happy we met Nicole to watch our 2 pups and cat while we were away. She handled our 2 big pups like a pro - they are not the easiest and are a bit on guard when meeting new people but she quickly put them at ease. She sent daily updates and followed our instructions perfectly. I am very happy that we have Nicole to trust with our animals!”
“Another wonderful job by Amanda! Our elder dog Chelsea was getting over not feeling well and Amanda cared for her like she was her own. She gave lots of feedback and pics. Showered our Chelsea Girl with attention. Will book again!”

About: Hi everyone! I wanted to get started on Rover because I have experience watching friends, family, and neighbors dogs and I would love to meet some more furry friends! My first job was working at a vets office walking the dogs in the back and since then I have been walking dogs and dog-sitting around my neighborhood. I also grew up with my amazing dog Maddie, so I understand your pets are more then animals they are truly family. I love creating a calm, loving and happy environment for your babies. I can't wait to meet them! I'm currently working part-time so I have a very flexible schedule. I am able go over and take care of them any date, time, or holiday. Dog Walks- Reliable exercise with care and attention. Check Ins- Feeding, playtime, or quick potty breaks I always want to provide a safe and loving environment. I will handle your fur baby with care, love, and intention. I require that I meet your dog before I take care of them. The most important thing is that there is trust between me and your dog.
“We had Kelly come dog sit in January for a week. She was amazing! Very comforting for us that my dog, Sophie, would be cared for in my home. Sophie is normally an anxious dog. While Kelly was with her, Sophie was completely fine. I really enjoyed the photos of Sophie that Kelly sent me during her stay. Kelly stayed overnight for Sophie, she was very respectful of my home and left it the way she found it. I would highly recommend Kelly for your pet needs!!!!”

“Shannon was such a great sitter. The pups took an instant liking to her. She was excellent at communicating and keeping me updated. I certainly will book her again should the opportunity arise. Highly recommend! Thanks Shannon.”

About: I’ve grown up taking care of animals with my own pets. Have experience dog sitting and walking with puppy’s through elderly dogs. Always have been passionate about being dogs best friend. I am currently a student at Stony Brook taking 14 credits during the day. Message me for drop in visits or walking to find a time that works for the both of us. My home has a natural fence of a swamp. I take my elderly dog (Esther) out on walks every other day (ussally the beach) and on the off days we stay out in the back yard playing fetch. This seems to be the best schedule for an elderly dog full of life but with fading joints.
“We had Sonnie of the duo stay at our house with our pups and we’ve never come back from vacation before and had the dogs been so relaxed. Sonnie did such a phenomenal job caring for our animals and our house. We felt incredibly comfortable leaving them in Sonnie’s care after two pre-vacation visits where our pets simply could not get enough of Sonnie. Sonnie showed kindness and understanding, sent us daily updates and pictures. I would definitely hire Sonnie again when we go away or just to let the pups out or walk them when we have a long day away. Thanks so much Sonnie!”

“Asher did a great job taking care of our 5 year old lab while we were away for the weekend. We returned to a happy dog and a well cared for house. I highly recommend him and plan on using him again.”

“Melanie and Anthony are absolute gems as pet sitters and house guests. They are so kind and caring- both towards animals and towards us humans - taking great care of all of us during their stay. They sent lovely photos of our pets being adored and living their best lives in our absence and they took great care to be respectful about my needs as a person with Celiac disease, even leaving extra GF staples for me and cleaning the house! They are truly great humans and we feel so lucky to have found them. Booking them again ASAP!!”

“Staci is a phenomenal dog sitter! She stayed at our place for a whole week and watched two of our pups, one of whom is really quite a challenge. He has health issues and an attitude and Staci was able to accommodate his needs. Thanks to her we were able to take our first vacation together in three years!!!”

About: I have owned dogs all my life. When I turned 10, I got my own dog and he has been my best friend ever since. I have experience pet sitting and dog walking! I am currently home for the summer, so I have plenty of time to care for your pets! I am available for most of June and July. I am happy to care for your animals in any way you see fit. Please provide me with detailed instructions outlining how to properly care for your pet!

“Kathy stayed with my senior dog and my cat for a few days and followed all instructions and took care of them very well ! She left me updates and the place was exactly how I left it when I got back from my lil vacation! Definitely recommend and would hire her again :)”

About: I’ve taken care of all kinds of dogs (and other animals!) for many years. Family, friends, and co-workers have relied on me to watch and care for their pets whether it’s walking, feeding, playing, even taking them to the vet. I’ve taken care of dogs of all sizes and ages, from senior bull mastiffs to pugs under a year old. There is no dog too big or too small because they’re all perfect to me. I’ve also found lost dogs and helped them return to their owners! I have experience caring for anxious dogs, blind dogs, deaf dogs, dogs with mobility issues, and dogs that require medication. Other animals I’ve taken care of include: cats, parrots, guinea pigs, fish, rabbits, and hamsters. Pets are so precious, they’re such an important source of joy in their family’s lives so it’s such a privilege to be trusted with their care!! :) Pet sitting is currently my full time job, so I have lots of time to give your animals the special care and attention they deserve! I have a fenced in yard which is perfect for dogs to run around in. I also have a car so I’m able to take dogs to the dog park or dog beaches nearby (if that’s something they would enjoy). At a client’s house I still follow any guidance/schedule given to me. In between I typically take the dog’s lead. I’m at their house so it’s important to me that I respect their space (and the clients above all)! I like to take their cues to make sure that their sense of routine isn’t disrupted.

About: I’m the person that family and friends go to when they want advice on how to teach dogs fun tricks. Also, I’m really good at telling dogs breeds apart which is fun when I’m out. I work part time on weekends and have classes early in the morning. So the rest of my time can be spent with your babies aka your pets. I have a big backyard that’s fenced in and all three of my dogs don't care for other dogs. As my two newest are shelter dogs I wont accept pets at my home for the time being. Im very patient with animals as I’m the one that cares for my dogs. I treat animals almost similarly to children as thats how I see my own.
“I recently used Tricia for the first time for two nights of pet sitting with my senior chihuahua, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience! She was incredibly professional, attentive, and clearly has a genuine love for animals. She took such amazing care of my dog and kept me updated the entire time with thoughtful messages and photos, which gave me so much peace of mind. It meant everything knowing Winnie was in such good hands. I will absolutely be using her services again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable, caring pet sitter!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Stony Brook
Magda was a wonderful sitter for our dog and two cats! She took the time to do a meet-and-greet beforehand to make sure our pets were comfortable with her, and that our dog got along well with her dog, Frankie. She was very reliable and communicative while we were away and made sure to send updates with very cute pictures and videos! It made traveling much easier knowing our pets were happy and well cared for. We would happily book with Magda again! Highly highly recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy and caring pet sitter.

Brianna was absolutely fantastic while caring for my pets. She watched my six dogs and my cat and handled everything with patience, kindness, and genuine care. She kept me consistently updated by sending photos and messages, which really put me at ease while I was away. It was clear my pets were comfortable, happy, and in great hands. I would highly recommend Brianna to anyone looking for a reliable, thoughtful, and caring pet sitter.
Paul watched our two new rescue German Shepherds for an overnight when we went out of town after only having the dogs for 2 weeks. It was such a relief to find someone close by who is a GSD lover. Both dogs took to Paul & his wife immediately. We loved getting photo and video updates while we were away from our new fur babies!

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Stony Brook walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Stony Brook maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Stony Brook choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

- 97% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
