We are so happy we met Nicole to watch our 2 pups and cat while we were away. She handled our 2 big pups like a pro - they are not the easiest and are a bit on guard when meeting new people but she quickly put them at ease. She sent daily updates and followed our instructions perfectly. I am very happy that we have Nicole to trust with our animals!

Cat is an absolute gem of a pet sitter! She was fantastic with Nox and looked after my girl as if she were her very own. Throughout her stay, Cat kept my mind completely at ease by sending regular updates and the perfect amount of pictures / videos. It is incredibly clear that this isn't just a job for her—she genuinely loves what she does and has a true passion for animals. I felt so comfortable knowing Nox was safe, happy, and showered with affection. I cannot recommend Cat highly enough and will definitely be booking her again!!

We had Kelly come dog sit in January for a week. She was amazing! Very comforting for us that my dog, Sophie, would be cared for in my home. Sophie is normally an anxious dog. While Kelly was with her, Sophie was completely fine. I really enjoyed the photos of Sophie that Kelly sent me during her stay. Kelly stayed overnight for Sophie, she was very respectful of my home and left it the way she found it. I would highly recommend Kelly for your pet needs!!!!

Brianna stayed with my pack for 2 nights and did a fantastic job. She was responsible for giving my epileptic dog his medications and also one of my cats his antibiotic, which is no easy feat. Brianna was communicative and everyone seemed very happy when I got home. I would highly recommend her to others as she is reliable, attentive, and definitely can follow instructions on complex animals.

Sharon did an amazing job caring for our dogs! We were gone for a week and it was the longest time we have ever been away from them. Very nervous that they would be depressed but Sharon played with them a lot and even got one of our finicky eaters to eat his food! She even had to administer an allergy pill to one of the dogs and it was not an issue. We came back and house was in good order and the dogs looked great! Would use Sharon again without hesitation.

About: I’ve had a dog pretty much my whole life, so I’m very used to taking care of them and being around them every day. I also spend a lot of time around my girlfriend’s cat and help take care of her, so I’m comfortable with both dogs and cats. I genuinely love animals and I’m someone you can trust to make sure your pet is well taken care of and gets plenty of attention while you’re away. I’m a commuter engineering student at Stony Brook, so I have a pretty flexible schedule and spend a lot of my week at home. Most days I’m only on campus for a few hours at a time, and I’m free all day on Saturdays. I do have an occasional longer class day, but even then I’m able to plan around your pet’s schedule. A lot of my schoolwork is done on my laptop, so when I’m pet sitting I’m happy to study and do my work from your home, which means I can spend plenty of time with your pet throughout the day. I also usually go to a local gym for about an hour and a half in the evening, but otherwise I’m around and can be pretty flexible. I’ll follow whatever routine you already have for your pet so they can stay as comfortable as possible while you’re away. I’m active and in good shape, so I’m more than happy to take dogs on long walks or give them as much exercise as they’re used to. I can handle feeding, walks, playtime, bathroom breaks, litter boxes, and whatever else is part of their normal routine. I’m also completely comfortable sleeping with your pets if that’s what they’re used to, or giving them their own space so it’s really whatever you and your pet are most comfortable with. I’m happy to send pictures and updates too so you know they’re doing well.

About: When it comes to your pets, I understand how important their comfort, safety, and happiness are. I’ve cared for animals my entire life and have experience with dogs of all ages and personalities. I’ve fostered pets, helped them find loving homes, and have taken care of everything from energetic puppies to seniors who need a little extra attention. I’m also big on communication—you’ll always stay updated. I send frequent messages, photos, and videos so you can feel connected and know exactly how your pet is doing. Whether your dog is playful, shy, or needs special care, I’ll treat them like family and make sure they feel loved and well cared for every step of the way. All I need to do is boxing. Monday to Friday for about an hour either in the morning or night. Saturday is boxing in the morning. In my home and my clients’ homes, I focus on giving pets a safe, comfortable, and calm environment where they can relax and feel at ease. I pay close attention to their routines, personality, and any special needs so they always feel cared for and understood. I keep a clean space, make sure doors and gates are secure, and always supervise play—especially with high-energy dogs. Whether your pet is shy, playful, or needs extra support, I adjust to their pace so they feel confident and comfortable. I’m also very communication-focused. You’ll receive regular updates, photos, and videos so you always know how your pet is doing and can feel connected while you’re away. My goal is to make your pet feel at home and give you complete peace of mind.

About: I've had ample experience pet sitting for friends, family, and neighbors. My experience includes working as a vet assistant at a clinic for cats. I also have experience giving medication to pets (one of my own cats requires daily shots). I am in school part time, so I have lots of availability. I can watch your pets overnight on weekends, and at flexible times during the week. I am not able to board any animals at my home, but I can and will make sure that your home environment is a safe and loving place while your pets are in my care.

Trisha graciously watched my 2 older dogs at the last minute in my home. She was an amazing houseguest, and was incredible with my visually impaired dog who requires various daily medications. My other grumpy dog took to Trisha immediately, which is remarkable as he can be stingy with his affection. Thank you Trisha and we all look forward to seeing you again soon.❤️

Staci is a phenomenal dog sitter! She stayed at our place for a whole week and watched two of our pups, one of whom is really quite a challenge. He has health issues and an attitude and Staci was able to accommodate his needs. Thanks to her we were able to take our first vacation together in three years!!!

Paul watched our two new rescue German Shepherds for an overnight when we went out of town after only having the dogs for 2 weeks. It was such a relief to find someone close by who is a GSD lover. Both dogs took to Paul & his wife immediately. We loved getting photo and video updates while we were away from our new fur babies!

FAQs for House Sitting - Old Field

Frequently asked questions about Rover

As of September 2026, there are 2,670 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Old Field. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Old Field walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Old Field maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Old Field choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Old Field. On Rover:

  • 90% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 92% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 97% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
