“Melissa is the absolute best!! She took such amazing care of my dogs, I didn’t have to worry about a thing! Excellent communication too! I would hire her again in a heartbeat. Thank you!!!”

About: Hi! I'm Cat, and it is my literal pleasure to care for your dog, cat, lizard, bunny, or parrot! What you can expect from me: -Fast, clear, and concise executive-level communication. -Deep breed-specific knowledge of behavior underpinned by my time as a vet receptionist -High quality photos -Easy, flexible scheduling -Complete focus and attention to detail -Genuine joy and enthusiasm to care for your pet In my previous life, I was a design program manager within corporate tech (Meta, Comcast, Pinterest), and I'm thrilled and privileged to pivot into pet care. I have cared for dogs of every size, flavor, and temperament. I have extensive experience training dogs, and quite frankly, I've watched a whole lot of Westminster dog show. In particular, I have specialized experience with shy or nervous dogs and will provide them the space and understanding needed to relax and feel comfortable. I am happy to walk or jog to help burn canine energy. Not afraid to get down in the dirt and play! I have been deeply involved in cat rescue since 2020, when I began working remotely. I have fostered dozens of cats over the years. This includes kittens with complex medical issues. I am very capable at medicating cats and kittens as well as identifying when a cat may be feeling unwell. When you board with me, your pet will not be left alone for more than 1 hour. I only board pets from one household at a time and provide dedicated personal care. When your baby is at my house, they are family. Feel free to reach out with any additional questions. I'm currently working remotely doing project-based contract work, so I have plenty of availability and scheduling flexibility. If boarding or house-sitting, I will be fully available and no pet will be left alone longer than an hour. I have a friendly chihuahua mix (8 lbs) and 2 cats, but if needed, I have plenty of room to give everyone their own space. I have an unfenced backyard with plenty of room to romp. Dogs will always be leashed or tethered in yard.

“Shannon was such a great sitter. The pups took an instant liking to her. She was excellent at communicating and keeping me updated. I certainly will book her again should the opportunity arise. Highly recommend! Thanks Shannon.”

“Another wonderful job by Amanda! Our elder dog Chelsea was getting over not feeling well and Amanda cared for her like she was her own. She gave lots of feedback and pics. Showered our Chelsea Girl with attention. Will book again!”

“Kathy knows her business and has a natural connection with dogs. Our little Chihuahua mix is very shy with strangers, but Kathy gave her a "massage" that immediately won her over. We were very comfortable knowing Kathy was taking care of our dog and two cats for the holidays. Highly recommended.”

About: I’ve grown up taking care of animals with my own pets. Have experience dog sitting and walking with puppy’s through elderly dogs. Always have been passionate about being dogs best friend. I am currently a student at Stony Brook taking 14 credits during the day. Message me for drop in visits or walking to find a time that works for the both of us. My home has a natural fence of a swamp. I take my elderly dog (Esther) out on walks every other day (ussally the beach) and on the off days we stay out in the back yard playing fetch. This seems to be the best schedule for an elderly dog full of life but with fading joints.
“michelle was fantastic! My dogs gets out of sorts when i go away but Michelle worked her magic and nothing was chewed up, broken or destroyed. that’s never happened before! send pictures and just wonderful. Highly recommend!!!”

About: I have care for dogs and cats in the Port Jefferson community and surrounding areas since my teenage years. I try to be flexible to meet your needs and I have taken care of four legged friends big and small. Your special friend will be well take care of while you are away. I have varying hours during the summer so I can especially make things work if given times in advance. I am timely and available for whatever you may need. I am willing to travel. I am a clean and careful guest, and understand the sense of safety and security that comes with knowing your four legged friend is well taken care of in their own home. I am more than happy to drop in or stay over, whatever is more convenient to you! Let’s discuss what works best.
“Kelly was such a great caretaker for our babies and our house! She is so patient and loving; she took excellent care of everyone; and she gave us frequent photos and updates while staying at our house. We will absolutely ask her to care for our pets again!”

About: I absolutely love animals!! I had a Schnauzer named Loki years ago. I decided I wouldn’t have another puppy, but I’ve been having a blast watching other people’s dogs. It’s kind of like a fun uncle type of situation I’ve been thriving on lately. I have tons of experience watching and handling animals. Since my youth, I’ve been in love with nature. I even became an Eagle Scout! I’m passionate about animals and all life in general. I even thought about becoming a vegan, but that’s another topic of discussion… I’m a yoga instructor, so my schedule is very flexible. My free time is spent running, exercising, and studying. You can find me either outdoors or at a coffee shop! I am very communicative and attentive, so you can expect multiple text messages with updates on how your puppy is doing. Expect mini photo shoots!
“We had Sonnie of the duo stay at our house with our pups and we’ve never come back from vacation before and had the dogs been so relaxed. Sonnie did such a phenomenal job caring for our animals and our house. We felt incredibly comfortable leaving them in Sonnie’s care after two pre-vacation visits where our pets simply could not get enough of Sonnie. Sonnie showed kindness and understanding, sent us daily updates and pictures. I would definitely hire Sonnie again when we go away or just to let the pups out or walk them when we have a long day away. Thanks so much Sonnie!”

“We've had Sharon over twice now to watch pets and house sit, and it's been a great experience. We come home to very happy animals. She's an all-around pro, and it's made it so much easier to travel.”

“Kimberly was the best . She was always sending me pictures that kept me calm knowing my baby was doing good and in was in good hands . She treated my baby so good and would definitely book her services again in the future .”

About: As a lifelong animal lover and pet parent to four rescue dogs, I understand that every pet has their own personality, routine, and needs. What sets me apart is the level of care and attention I give to every animal as if they were my own. I have hands-on experience caring for senior dogs, including my 14-year-old blind Boston Terrier, which has given me patience, compassion, and an understanding of the extra care some pets require. I am also comfortable administering medications and following detailed care instructions to help pets stay happy, healthy, and comfortable while you’re away. Whether your pet loves playtime, long walks, cuddles on the couch, or simply sticking to their usual routine, my goal is to provide a safe, loving, and stress-free experience for both pets and their owners. Pet care fits naturally into my daily routine because caring for animals is something I genuinely enjoy. I work full-time at a local high school as the Principal’s Secretary, with regular hours ending at 1:30 PM during the school year and 1:00 PM during the summer, which allows me plenty of time for afternoon, evening, and overnight pet care. I am available for drop-in visits, walks, feeding, medication administration, and companionship before and after work, and I am happy to provide overnight stays when needed so your pets can maintain their routine and have company for longer periods of time. Weekends are generally wide open, allowing me to dedicate even more time and attention to your pets. My goal is always to provide dependable, loving care that gives both you and your pets peace of mind while you’re away. When caring for pets in a client’s home, I do my best to keep their routine as normal and stress-free as possible. I follow feeding schedules, provide fresh water, administer medications if needed, and make sure pets get the exercise, playtime, and attention they’re used to receiving. Whether your pet enjoys long walks, playing fetch, cuddling on the couch, or simply having someone nearby, I adjust my care to fit their individual needs and personality. I understand that every pet is different, so I take the time to learn their routines, preferences, and any special instructions you provide. My goal is to make your pet feel safe, comfortable, and loved while you’re away, while also giving you peace of mind through dependable and attentive care.

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Mount Sinai
Shannon was amazing with Otter! And so flexible with my last minute plans - I am forever grateful to her for being so awesome. I drove down from New Hampshire to see my brother and she not only cared for Otter at the last minute but stayed longer when the surprise dinner ran behind. I can't sing her praises enough!

Alexa is a diamond in the rough. While hesitant, having never used Rover nor had someone other than immediate family watching Buddy, and with a trip closing in, Alexa came in the clutch and went beyond and beyond my expectations for my nearly 17-year-old senior Buddy. One to two years ago, Buddy would have been a breeze to watch. Now, his hind legs, mind, and bladder (no accidents for over 16 years) aren't the same as before, and he requires more attention. Alexa provided that attention, and some. Cleaning up his accidents, picking him up onto the couch or bed (he refuses to sleep anywhere else), letting him out as soon as she could, hanging out with him outside, cleaning up after herself and Buddy, following guidelines, and way more than I can fit in this review. Alexa is very communicative too, providing updates and pictures. All in all, Alexa rocks, and I'm happy I found someone who cares just as much about Buddy as I do. Book her, you won't regret it!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Mount Sinai on Rover is $63.25 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Mount Sinai walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Mount Sinai maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Mount Sinai choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
