“Our two dogs loved their time with her. The house was neat and tidy when we returned home. The daily stays updated were nice and kept us informed. We would definitely use Erin again as a pet sitter.”

“Gabriel was amazing! He was the first person that my cat Chloe came out for. She is very picky and doesn’t usually come out for anyone in Hydes the whole time. He made my animals feel at ease and I felt so comfortable being out of town. I would definitely use him again.”

About: I grew up with 2 dogs, lab mix and a chihuahua mix. I was especially fond of Rosie( our lab), she was a very loving and sweet pup. I understand how a pet really can become a special part of your life and I know it's important to treat them well. I love having the companionship of a dog in the home and I am very good with dogs even when they are very hyper. I have a patient and loving way with dogs. I'd be happy to play with your dog, take them out for some exercise and give them the attention they need! I'm free if they need to get out in the mornings as you to rush off to work or school!
“Channing housesat for our two dogs and our cat with loving care. She obviously knows a lot about taking care of animals and our three family members--two of which are well past middle age--responded well. We look forward to working with Channing in the future!”

“Katie is an exceptional pet sitter. We would 100 % recommend her. She asked good questions and listened well, taking the absolute best care of our dog Maeve. Kind hearted and knowledgeable, I wouldn’t hesitate to entrust any animal to her care. Well done Katie!”

“Victoria was wonderful to work with. She took great care of my dogs and house while I was on vacation. She communicated often, sent pictures and fulfilled the needs of my dogs. She’s warm and lovely and I plan on using her again in the future.”

“Cathleen went above and beyond when she watched our house and kitty for 9 days. We returned to a spotless home, filled with great energy. It was a great feeling to return to a clean house after a long flight. Our kitty and plants are thriving, thanks to Cathleen’s help.”

“Kait was fantastic and she came last minute to take care of Zeus after the sitter I booked was a no show. She took good care of Zeus while we are away and gave me updates about him daily. Since ha had a leg injury she was very vigilant about his leg condition and updated me on a daily basis about his improvement. The most important thing was when our flight back got canceled. She immediately came back and stayed the night and took care of him even after she left. She was a life saver because we had one less thing to worry about amidst all the chaos. Will surely book her again.”

“Our Gracie kitty said it was another wonderful stay with Aunt Tania! When we returned, everything was clean, the plants thriving, and Gracie happy as can be. We can never express our appreciation for what Tania does - knowing our home and our fur-baby are well cared for while we are gone is worth everything.”

“Gina did such a great job taking care of the place and making sure I had regular updates and photos throughout my trip. It meant a lot to have that peace of mind. She is truly an animal lover and I am so glad I found her! Definitely would recommend. Excellent job!”

“Lexie is a wonderful dog sitter. She has tons of experience with and loves dogs, and they love her back. My girls were well taken care of during my recent trip, and Lexie kept in touch with me throughout my trip. I've already booked her for another stay!”

“Peter was great. He took the time to connect with our Great Dane in advance so that their time together was as seamless as possible. He provided updates during our time away about our dog and home. He took great care of our pup and our home.”

“Highly recommend Angela! She was incredibly friendly, attentive, and immediately made our anxious dog feel comfortable and safe. She took him on multiple walks and sent regular photo updates, which gave us total peace of mind. Angela is a fantastic sitter, and we will absolutely be booking with her again!”

“Dorothy was amazing! My dogs were happy while we were gone and we got some pretty incredible photos of our girls. We asked Dorothy to do a little extra and she did. We will definitely be calling Dorothy soon! We cannot recommend her enough!”

“I first met Kelly for a preliminary 'meet & greet' and I immediately sensed her comfort with our young, certified therapy Aussie dog 'Sydney'. On the day of the sitting, Kelly arrived promptly and Sydney (again) greeted her warmly. During the visit Kelly texted us some cute photos of Sydney and Kelly at-play. I highly recommend Kelly and as the need arises we will definitely request her services without hesitation.”

About: I've spent years caring for my own pets, including senior dogs and cats, and I understand how important it is to treat every pet like family. I'm comfortable with puppies, shy dogs, counter surfers, herding breeds, and dogs who simply need alittle extra patience. Your pets safety, happiness, and routine always comes first. Please note: For Constant Care: If your pet needs someone home with them and cannot be left alone for more than 2–3 hours at a time, there will be an added constant care rate of $75 per day. I schedule my day around making sure they're fed, exercised, and given plenty of love. My job allows me to be very flexible with my time. I like to keep the dogs routine as much as possible. Some dogs can get anxious when someone new is introduced and I find it's best to keep things as simple and normal as possible.
“Erik was both proactive and responsive, and most importantly, he loved and took great care of our dog and house. He handled things independently, but was also a great communicator. We can’t wait to invite him back!”

“Emma was fantastic with our dog Freya. From the start, her communication was clear, consistent, and reassuring, which made the whole experience feel easy and stress-free. She kept us updated and gave us real peace of mind knowing Freya was in great hands. It’s obvious she genuinely cares, and that made all the difference. We’d absolutely trust her again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for someone reliable and attentive.”

About: I have about 2 years of pet care experience, mostly with dog sitting and walking. I have worked mostly with larger dog breeds, but I have experience with a variety of dog sizes. I also have experience in small mammal pet sitting, such as guinea pigs and chinchillas. I am available to work around most people's schedules, if you are concerned please reach out and we can discuss what would work best for you and your pets. I am very detail oriented and good with instructions. I make sure that all instructions and care are followed as well as staying in touch to update you on your dog's fun times!

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Sonoma
Stephanie was amazing with our mini poodle Waffles! She took the time to come meet him and learn about him before staying over at our house with him. She followed his care and feeding instructions perfectly, and we came back to a happy dog! We would definitely use Stephanie again.

Cathleen was excellent working with our dog Marley. Marley wasn’t quite prepared to have someone take care of her while we were away and Cathleen was incredible at being patient and caring for her needs. She went above and beyond by texting, communicating and sending us photos. We will definitely use Cathleen again as we feel Marley has made her part of our family.

Angela is kind, caring and trustworthy. We trusted her to take care of our 15 yo senior dog, Teo, at our home for 5 days. She bonded with Teo on her first visit and the transition was seamless. She handled his needs, his medication and it seems, looking at the pictures Angela sent to us while we were away, that they had a good time together!
I first met Kelly for a preliminary 'meet & greet' and I immediately sensed her comfort with our young, certified therapy Aussie dog 'Sydney'. On the day of the sitting, Kelly arrived promptly and Sydney (again) greeted her warmly. During the visit Kelly texted us some cute photos of Sydney and Kelly at-play. We feel so fortunate to have found Gillian (Gigi)! She had a difficult task with her stay at our house, and his name is Kitty (the elderly pug). He not only requires extra work in the daytime, but can be a huge challenge at night by not sleeping (howling) in the night. We cannot express our gratitude for her care and patience with this guy. He is over 17 years old, and suffering from cognitive decline and nerve issues (back end failures). We typically travel with him knowing the level of work he can be, but this trip was due to a death in the family and we had to fly (and he cannot fly with us). She stuck with him, kept trying things to help him be comfortable, and we greatly appreciate her. Not easy if sleep deprived! We have two others - dog and cat - who were hopefully easier and more entertaining for Gigi! (oh and a duck) We felt nothing but total confidence in having them in her care, and in our home. She was not just a wonderful caretaker for our fur babies, but a lovely houseguest, too. That made an extra huge difference since our trip was due to a death in the family - we could go and be focused on that. We were updated throughout the day and with photos and videos and loved having that communication. If she is ever willing to take us on again, we will definitely be seeking her services. Give her a try - you will love her and your fur baby will too!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Sonoma on Rover is $55 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of August 2026, there are 5,483 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Sonoma. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Sonoma walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Sonoma maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Sonoma choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Sonoma. On Rover:
- 92% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 94% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 95% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
