“Nyree is excellent and we will be utilizing her services again! She kept us updated with how our pups were doing and sent pictures throughout the entire time. Thank you for being so awesome and taking such good care of our pups!”

“Lis is a fantastic sitter. She went above and beyond by staying overnight to keep our dogs company. She is a great communicator and provided regular photo updates throughout the stay. Reliable, kind, and highly recommended. We’ve already decided she’s our go-to sitter for the future!”

“5+ stars. Megan goes above and beyond to make sure your fur baby is well cared for. She is clean, considerate, and an all-around gem! We have found our go-to (& wish I could hide her away).”

“Cindy did a great job caring for my three pets and my home. My dog Layla loves her outside time and got plenty of it. My cats are aloof and do things on their own terms. Cindy let them get comfortable with her at their own pace. I got daily updates and pictures.”

“Jessica was absolutely amazing! She responded so fast and got us in for house sitting a few days before a holiday weekend. One of my dogs is usually nervous around new people, but she was immediately comfortable when meeting Jessica, I knew right away she was a great fit! I’ve never left my dogs with someone I didn’t know, but I didn’t worry at all. She sent me multiple daily pictures and even a video, which just put me at ease and knew they were happy! Will definitely book Jessica again!!”
“This was our 2nd booking with Mattie and was extremely short notice (as well as over New Year’s Day holiday) due to a family emergency out of state. She responded almost immediately to my scheduling request which was a huge relief knowing we’d have someone to watch our pup and already knew him and his routine. Definitely recommend Mattie for any service needed!”

“Lori did a great job. She communicated with us to let us know how things were going because we have an old dog. None of our dogs were stressed when we got home, and our house was in order. This is the first time we have ever used a sitter and it was a great experience. Thanks Lori!”

“Brittany did a wonderful job watching our two cats. We have a cat who gets anxious when we leave and tends to pee on furniture or clothes if we are gone more than a day or two. We were gone for five days and there were no such incidents thanks to Brittany’s attentive care. Our animals seemed happy and content as if we hadn’t left at all, and it was such a relief to come home to relaxed animals in a clean home. 10/10, thank you Brittany!”

About: I’m a calm, nurturing, and reliable pet sitter who genuinely enjoys caring for animals of all kinds. I grew up with pets and currently have both a cat and a dog, so I understand how important it is to leave your pets with someone you trust! Friends and family have relied on me to watch their pets, and I’m known for being patient, attentive, and easygoing—especially with animals who may be a little shy or anxious. I take the time to make sure each pet feels safe, comfortable, and cared for. I also love going on walks and making sure pets get the attention, exercise, and routine they’re used to. Whether it’s playtime, feeding, or just keeping them company, I treat every pet like my own. My goal is to give you peace of mind while you’re away, knowing your pets are in calm, caring hands! I work in healthcare and I'm free after 5pm most days with a day off during the week, and weekends I'm pretty free for check ins, walks, and whatever else you need! In a client’s home, I do my best to maintain your pet’s normal schedule with feeding, walks, playtime, and any specific care instructions you provide. I make sure they get plenty of attention and companionship, while also respecting your home and keeping everything clean and tidy! I also enjoy going on walks and making sure dogs get the exercise and enrichment they need. Overall, I treat every pet like my own and aim to provide dependable, loving care so you can feel completely at ease while you’re away!
About: I've been caring for dogs and cats since I was a child. Growing up, my family had several dogs, including a Shih Tzu, two Shiba Inus, and a Newfoundland, giving me experience with pets of all sizes, ages, personalities, and energy levels. I also grew up with a Persian cat, whom I helped care for from a young age. These experiences taught me how to provide loving, attentive, and reliable care while adapting to each pet's unique needs. I also volunteer at the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society and participate in their Rescue Day Recess! I currently attend the University of South Dakota and work part-time at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls. My schedule gives me flexibility throughout the week to check in on pets, take dogs for walks, provide playtime, feed them, and make sure they're happy and comfortable while you're away. Whether your pet needs a quick potty break, a long walk, or some extra attention during the day, I'm committed to providing dependable, loving care that fits their routine. I have watched 2 Shiba Inus by myself for over a year and have taken care of a Newfoundland for multiple nights. Neither of the homes had a fence but I compensate by taking the dogs out multiple times a day and going for walks. I’m very familiar with taking dogs out to relieve themselves, feeding, and possible medications they might need to take. Whether the dog is energetic, like my 2 Shiba Inus, or more relaxed, like my 10 year old Newfoundland, I make it work according to their needs.
About: While I don’t have any pets right now, I would love to adore your fur baby while you’re away. They will not be lacking, snuggles, attention, walks, and praise. I work full-time in southern Sioux Falls but have a very flexible schedule to come home to check on and care for your fur babies during the weekdays. In the evenings and on weekends, I am home. Every other week I have my three kids ranging from 11 to 17 who also love pets! I’ve spent my entire life surrounded by animals, and quite frankly, a house doesn't feel like a home without a wagging tail or a soft purr. Since I don't have any pets of my own right now, your fur-baby becomes my absolute world the moment they walk through the door. Whether we’re exploring the quiet neighborhood on a long walk, playing a high-energy game of fetch in my large fenced-in backyard, or just enjoying some quality 'couch time,' I promise to shower them with the same love and devotion I’d give my own. From playful kittens to senior dogs who need a little extra patience and medication, I’m here to provide a safe, calm, and incredibly loving sanctuary for your best fur friend.
“Our dogs were in the best of hands. Consistent communication and updates on how our boys were doing. Definitely went above and beyond! Thank you so much! Made our vacation more enjoyable!!!”

“Josie did a great job taking care of our dogs - We loved the pictures! They got a lot of playtime and love from Josie! :) Would definitely recommend Josie and her family for your pet care needs!! We will definitely use her again.”

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Shindler walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Shindler maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Shindler choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
