“Taylor has been working to get my shy boy more comfortable with her and she made a ton of progress in a very short time. Treats are the way to his heart lol. Thank you so much for continually working with my boy!”

“Arden as usual is THE VERY BEST! She is caring and very responsible! If you have the opportunity please book her as a sitter! She is an amazing person! My cats are very happy with her! 🤍🙏🏻”

“Lyle is very knowledgeable, experienced, reliable and dependable. Our dogs love when he arrives and loves it even more when they go for an hour walk! We see the dogs smile from ear to ear (literally) 🐾❤️😊”

About: I was born and raised as an animal person. There was rarely a time when my family was without a pet of some sort, from dogs and cats to gerbils, rabbits, lizards and hermit crabs. So naturally when I married a fellow animal lover who worked at a dog kennel for 9+ years as a teenager, we decided to get a dog...and then some chickens...and 4 goats...and another dog...and 3 cats. Anyway, now we own a small hobby farm in Salem Twp and are raising two little girls who are also animal lovers. Being a livestock owner means that I deal with a lot of random weird and gross things on a daily basis, so I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty. I just want to give your beloved pet the love they deserve when you're away from home, because that's exactly what I want for my animals when I'm gone. I have two elementary aged kids so I'm available during the school day. I work a few hours a week as an early childhood class instructor but otherwise I'm just home or running errands most days. I can't offer pet sitting in my home or overnight at your home, but I'm available to come visit, feed, and walk your pets during the day. I may be able to expand my schedule depending on my kids schedules, so just ask!
“There is no one like Emi-Lu. She always goes above and beyond with her care for our dog, Finn. She is so attentive and gentle with him. Furthermore, she sends us reminder messages the day before she comes to visit and asks us updated questions about Finn each time, which is much appreciated. Finn absolutely loves her and we do as well.”

About: Growing up i’ve always had / fostered dogs and been passionate for animals. Additionally, I have experience working at a pet store. I would love to take my love for dogs and cats and turn it into something I can help others with. I am currently attending college as a commuter but have a pretty open schedule. I am open to nightly stays or just visits and playtime with your pup or cat! I will always keep watch and make sure the dogs are satisfied. If needed I can bathe and walk them, i’ll do whatever it takes so you know they’re in good hands.
About: I’ve had both dogs and cats my entire life, so caring for animals comes naturally to me. What sets me apart is my ability to balance active, engaging care with a calm and patient approach. Whether your pet loves long walks, a good game of fetch, or simply relaxing and feeling safe, I adapt to their personality and needs. I’m especially comfortable working with elderly pets and those with medical needs. I understand the importance of routine, gentle handling, and close attention to detail when it comes to medications, mobility limitations, or simply providing a quieter, low-stress environment. I take pride in making sure every pet feels comfortable, supported, and cared for at their own pace. I treat every pet like they’re my own—paying attention to the little things, keeping you updated, and making sure they feel safe, happy, and loved while you’re away. Pet care fits naturally into my weekly routine, and I make sure to plan my availability so I can give your pet the time and attention they deserve. I am a graduate student at Wayne State, so I do have classes Monday-Friday. Outside of those hours, I’m available for visits, walks, and check-ins. My weekends are somewhat flexible, allowing me to provide more extended care, drop-ins, or multiple visits as needed. I’m especially happy to help with dog walking, whether it’s part of your pet’s daily routine or if you just need an extra hand. If getting your dog out for a walk has become difficult, I’m more than willing to step in and make sure they still get the exercise, fresh air, and attention they need. I aim to be reliable, flexible, and accommodating so your pet’s care fits seamlessly into both of our schedules. When caring for pets in their own homes, my goal is to keep their routine as normal and stress-free as possible. I know how important it is for pets to stay in a familiar environment, so I take the time to follow your instructions closely, whether that’s feeding schedules, walk routines, medication, or favorite playtime activities. I approach every home with respect and every pet with patience. Some pets love attention and play, while others prefer a calm, quiet presence, and I’m very comfortable adjusting to both. I make sure your pet feels safe, cared for, and comfortable while you’re away. I also keep you updated with regular check-ins so you can feel confident knowing your pet (and your home) are in good hands. My goal is to provide dependable, thoughtful care that gives you peace of mind and keeps your pet happy in the place they know best.
“Kara is awesome! She was able to draw out both my cats during the Meet & Greet (they both run & hide when a stranger comes in the door, so I wasn't expecting them to come out for her). She was very attuned to how my one cat responded with fear to her voice changing to a deeper register and made sure to keep a gentle, light, reassuring tone. She was also super gracious about things like having to clean up a hairball and feed one cat separately in a super messy bedroom I didn't have time to clean. When Kara spontaneously said "I love cats!" while she was meeting and greeting Winnie and Iosaf, I knew she was the perfect petsitter for them!! 😻😻”

“Very conscientious and a pet lover. Even held one of my guinea pigs. Spent sufficient time giving affection and playing my very lonely attention-starved cats as well. Report cards were detailed and photos are adorable. Highly recommended.”

About: I have four dogs of my own and experience caring for dogs, cats, and fish. I’m comfortable with different breeds and sizes, including Pit Bulls, and I’m not intimidated by larger dogs. I’m dependable, attentive, and comfortable caring for multiple pets at once. I do have other work throughout the week, but I’m able to work my schedule around pet sitting. I have plenty of flexibility for drop-ins, walks, and overnight stays and do my best to accommodate each pet’s normal routine. I care for pets in their own home where they’re comfortable and familiar with their surroundings. I follow all feeding, medication, walking, and household instructions closely and always prioritize your pet’s safety, routine, and comfort.
“As always, Heather is reliable and wonderful. We travel many weekends for kids' activities, but we never worry about our pets because we know we can count on her to take excellent care of them!”

About: I’ve grown up around animals my whole life, caring for four dogs and a cat, so being around pets has always been second nature to me. I understand how important it is to find someone you can trust with your dog, whether it’s for a walk, check-in, or overnight care. I’m reliable, patient, and genuinely enjoy spending time with animals of all sizes and personalities. My goal is to make sure your pet feels safe, comfortable, and cared for while you’re away, and to give you peace of mind knowing they’re in good hands. I have a friendly 6 year old dog at home with many toys beds and crates. i am experienced, as i’ve been pet sitting for the past two years and grew up with 5 pets.
“Needed a last minute drop in visit to let out our bulldog Miggy. Theresa responded quickly to our request. We relocated due to my husbands work so could no longer have family help us out. Loved getting photos also!”

About: I’ve had animals my whole life and can’t imagine a home without them. I absolutely love spending time with pets—whether it’s going for walks, playing, or just giving them some extra love and attention. I’ve also volunteered at animal shelters, so I’m comfortable caring for pets with all kinds of personalities and needs. Friends and family often rely on me to look after their pets, and I always treat them like my own. I know how important it is to feel confident that your furry family member is in good hands, and I’d love to make sure they’re happy and cared for while you’re away! 🐾 I’m available after 5:00 during the week if walking is needed or a late night feeding I’m available most weekends days and nights Some Mondays I’m available earlier than 5:00 I would be comfortable caring for your pet in my home however I don’t have a fenced yard I would have to walk them if a dog to use the bathroom.
“Barb did a wonderful job visiting our 3 kitties this week. She was prompt and thorough. She dealt with some messes and even took out/in our trash and recyclable bins while she was here. Very pleased with Barb and will certainly rebook in the future!”

About: I have taken care of dogs and cats for over 18 years now. I usually help family and friends when they go out of town. Pets are like family and should be treated as such and that is something I value in my care. I currently work a full time job. My daily and weekly work schedule are morning shifts and a few weekends, I can be flexible for the needs of your loved ones. If I’m in a clients home, I will do what the client says is most best for their loved one. I aim to make sure each pet is cared for and comfortable in their environment.

Cat parents share their Rover experiences - Salem
Taylor was terrific! She is experienced, reliable, and a great communicator. We received detailed visit updates and photos after each drop-in without fail. She truly loves animals and did not hesitate to go the extra mile in her care of Luna and London. They were happy and relaxed when we returned, and we would not hesitate to leave them in Taylor’s care in the future.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your cat, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Salem. On Rover:

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
