Victoria took wonderful care of our puppy for several hours and did an amazing job! She made sure our pup was well fed, played with her, and kept her happy the entire time. She was very organized, attentive, and followed all our instructions perfectly. It’s clear she genuinely cares about animals. We felt completely at ease knowing our puppy was in such good hands. About: If you're looking for a dog-lover and loyal caretaker, I'm here for you and your pet! I'm happy to provide a loving space for your pet while you travel, or walks when needed. I work from home mostly--I am in the office two days a week (every Tuesday and Wednesday.) All other days I am flexible with my schedule. Pets are welcome on my furniture--while they are here, they are free to make themselves comfortable! Playtime, walks and car rides (if they like them) are encouraged.

About: I have owned dogs most of my life, always showering them with the love and care they deserve. Now, I want to do the same for your pups! I am available most days during the day, weekends included. My schedule is extremely flexible, so I should almost always be able to accommodate your requests. I have a fenced-in yard and a friendly dog, so your dog will be housed safely, and will have a four-legged friend to play with. I take my dog on frequent walks and would be excited to take yours along with us.

Lisbeth was great with our furbabies! She took great care of our home & pets, and provided fabulous pictures while we were gone. She was very responsive to us, and also respectful in her updates, and not at all bothersome of our vacation. Our dog is high energy and pretty attached to us, and Lisbeth took excellent care of him, with lots of walks, fetch, attention and care, so he was happy while we were gone (& when we came back). We would ABSOLUTELY have Lisbeth stay again! Thank you Lisbeth - you’re a gem & rockstar!!

About: I am current graduate student at Ramapo college looking for a new way to spend time with dogs (since I can’t get one of my own just yet)! I just ended my time volunteering at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay as a short term volunteer with completing my undergraduate degree. In the past I have worked at a dog daycare taking care of 15-20 dogs at a time. I pet sit for friends and family all the time but I am looking to meet new furry friends. I’m currently working part-time and attending school full-time on two nights a week. During the week, I have some nights free, and before classes, I have mornings and afternoons free! I will not offer in-home services as I have a family pet that does not get along well with other dogs, but does great with humans.

During her time with my puppy, she communicated very well, took great care of my dog, and showed her real love. She also did a little dog training, which was very welcome. Love Melinda and our experience with her.

About: I started my experience dog walking 2 years ago for a professor’s friend in Winchester, Virginia. Twice a week, I would walk her hyper pups. She then recommended me to her father, whose dog I began walking twice a week as well. From there, my mini business boomed through word of mouth. I began dog sitting in people’s homes as well for multiple individuals for varying time spans. Most of the dogs I interacted with were seniors and required extensive care. However, all dogs owners loved and recommended me to others! I still walk the original dogs and add in others as my schedule allows with two other jobs. I am sad to leave my extensive clientele in Winchester, but I am moving back to New Jersey for graduate school and excited to meet new puppy friends!! For the summertime, I am incredibly flexible with nothing planned. I prefer weekly walks / drop ins, but also like sitting as well. In August, I start physical therapy school at Columbia University so my availability will decrease but I’d be willing to provide services on nights / weekends. During breaks, my availability will open up again! Whenever walking / sitting, I respect the owner’s rules, no matter what. I long to maintain utmost cleanliness and adherence to routine as physically possible. I am also very communicative and honest, building trust with my clients.

About: Hi! My name is Amy, and I’m a rising sophomore at Boston College. I’ve lived with dogs since I was 8 years old, so caring for them has always been a part of my life. Growing up with dogs taught me how to understand their personalities, keep them safe, and make sure they get the exercise, attention, and love they deserve. Being away at college means I don’t get to spend as much time with dogs as I’d like, which is why I’m excited to help care for yours! I look forward to giving your pup a fun, safe time and making sure you have peace of mind while they’re in my care. I am currently home for the summer, and am available and flexible. I do have some work and family events that I have blocked off on my calendar, but other than that, I am open to bookings! I have a very large, fenced in yard with a pool. In the summer, the pool is not covered, and my oldest dog loves to go swimming or take a quick step in to cool off. We have a variety of toys and dog beds in our house, and we also have two sets of dog gates.

About: I previously had a cockapoo for 15 and a half years! My parents and I would love to have a dog in the house again and I am happy to help watch pets while I am home from grad school! I am a Vanderbilt graduate student, and have Thursdays through Sundays completely off which gives me more than enough time to care for your dog! I am available during the day on Mondays and Tuesdays, and early Wednesdays. I make sure I know where food, water, treats, leashes, toys, etc. are placed, and always keep a close eye on them if they are in the yard. I make sure they are fed on time and feel comfortable.

Amanda is amazing! My dog is recovering from a back injury and I needed someone on short notice to spend the day with him while I was at work. Amanda made sure he was comfortable and not moving (as the doc put him on bed rest) the entire day. Amanda was super communicative, sending regular updates. You can tell how much she loves animals - she poured so much love into my dog. Lastly, Amanda treated my apartment with the upmost care, and left it better than she found it. I highly recommend. Thanks again!

FAQs for House Sitting - Saddle River

Frequently asked questions about Rover

As of July 2026, there are 18,370 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Saddle River. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Saddle River walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Saddle River maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Saddle River choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Saddle River. On Rover:

  • 89% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 93% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 97% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
