Your dog's home away from home!Tucker, GA

I've always had dogs growing up and enjoy their companionship and energy. For the past seven years, my husband, Skylar, and I shared our home with our four-legged kid named Shoy. We adopted him at about six-weeks old from the Atlanta Humane Society. Shoy was friendly and energetic, loved to play, take walks, and snuggle with his mom. We lost Shoy to GI cancer in October 2019 and miss him dearly. In January 2020, we adopted a new puppy named Leia. She's still growing and learning, but loves all the new friends she meets through Rover!

We have a spacious home with a deck, as well as a fully fenced in yard, perfect for sun bathing, running and playing fetch. Your canine companion will love it here!

Why I love dog sitting

I have been a dog lover as long as I can remember! Growing up, I had several dogs named Muffy (or so my parents tell me) and a Pikengese Chihuahua mix named Erica. My grandparents also had several large dogs that I helped to feed and care for. My husband Skylar and I have been dog sitting with Rover since 2014.

About my yard

Our backyard is spacious and fully fenced in. There is plenty of space dogs to run and play. (The previous owners had 6 dogs!) Most of the yard is gently sloped and grassy.

Hi! We are Brenda and Mark and we would love to take care of your pet(s)! All of our lives we have been around dogs from little Yorkshire Terriers to Labrador Retrievers. No dog is too big or too small to love and take care of.

Since Mark works from home we are able to provide plenty of attention and frequent potty breaks. We also love to take our dogs for daily walks and have a nice dog park in our neighborhood. We currently have one dog (a silver lab) who is very social and friendly.

As dog owners ourselves, we know how hard it is to find someone you can trust to take care of your furry family members. That is why we would love the opportunity to care for your dog while you are away from your home. We are also available if you just have a busy schedule and need someone to stop and check in and take for a walk.

Please read this entire profile and enter the code phrase with any booking request! Unusual, we know, — but if our home isn’t suitable for your doggy, there is a good chance you’ll know in the next 10 minutes.

We have a house with a fenced yard in Roswell for friendly, reasonably sociable dogs. All doggies are given Tile trackers, someone is here 24 hours, and both of us are trained in pet 1st aid. Most types of doggies learn to get along here and we are extremely flexible.

We are LGBTQ friendly.

All we ask of a doggy is that they are reasonably polite with other doggies and don't woof all day. This is a good place for an inexperienced doggy to become more socialized and we usually have a variety of regular guest doggies, including older doggies who are very helpful for incorporating inexperienced doggies into our pack.

Sorry, but during busy times such as weekends or holidays, we can no longer take grumpy growly doggies who absolutely need to be enclosed on their own all the time, as it disrupts care for everyone else. The pack moves around the house and yard throughout the day and if someone is camped out in the kitchen growling because every kibble in the world belongs to them — this disrupts Dinnertime. You can’t be disrupting Dinnertime.

Happy to take shy, elderly or disabled doggies though. Just none who will be a nuisance to the neighbors or attack another dog.

All dogs are given a Tile tracker upon arrival. This is yours to keep, if you wish. If your doggy goes missing while in your care, I can set an alert. If anyone with a Tile app running gets within range, worldwide, we will get an alert and a location. Happy to transfer the Tile ownership to you if you download the app.

If you need to cancel the entire stay or part of it you will get a full refund. This is not the case with every sitter so check! We won’t be charging for a doggy we didn’t have. There is no shortage of customers so your cancellation is another doggy’s chance for a last minute booking. No worries!

MEDICAL EMERGENCIES.

In the case of a medical emergency the usual Rover procedure is to take the dog to the family vet regardless of circumstances. After a recent incident, we reserve the right to take the dog to specialist care immediately instead. We woke up one morning to find a healthy Great Dane in our care suddenly couldn’t walk. Hopped on the bed the previous night, could not stand unaided next morning. I knew it was neurological, because, well, what on Earth else could it be? plus I gave him a basic neuro exam and he failed to right knuckled paws. As per Rover’s policy we had to take him to the family vet and watch her botch every aspect of his diagnosis for an excruciating two hours then tried to tell me it was arthritis and tried to get me to agree she could keep him at $50 a night for the next couple weeks. And the patients were left alone till morning.

To try and convince me she said “it’ll be a terrible burden and you’re just the petsitter”.

No dear, I’m ALSO the petsitter. Off we sped to Blue Pearl like we should have done in the first place.

There he was diagnosed with a spinal stroke and his treatment started. They found a heart murmur the vet had missed too.

Next it was rehab every day as he gradually learned to walk again without falling. He is doing well but I am not watching that happen again. If I think a dog in our care needs specialist diagnosis or in-house bloodwork, we are taking the dog to get it.

Hope to hear from you soon - and feel free to reach out with any questions! You can expect an immediate response any time before 11pm, maybe even later.

FAQ

Q. Can I pick up my dog at 10 pm or is that too late?

A. Any time is fine.

Q. Can I drop my dog off at 6 am?

A. If you wish. Might not be looking our best though.

Q. I’m military on deployment and not contactable during my doggy’s vacation. Any special precautions?

A. Yes. Phone Christine Delgado at Blue Pearl Veterinary Hospital. Speak ONLY to her. Leave your credit card on file with her in case of a medical emergency. Reception will tell you they don’t do that, but actually they do for military.

Q. I am having trouble getting my obese dog to eat. Will you hand feed them all evening?

A. I'd rather let them out for extra playtime.

Q. My very fat dog looks at me with those big brown eyes and tells me he or she is starving. It must be true because my dog says so and I believe them. Will you?

A. No. Doggy hypnosis techniques don’t work on me. I can and will say no to snacks and excessive dinner if I can’t feel a dog’s ribs.

Q. Is someone really here all the time.

A. Yes, excepting medical emergencies. If there is a dog needing treatment everyone will be secured or brought along. The medical emergency is given priority over everything else, including customers picking up dogs.

Q. I want three days, but I'll only pay for two, then not show up for four. My nice dog will turn into Cujo two hours after I leave and eat a door. And I mean leave a great big hole in it. They’ll woof till 4am and howl like all the Demons of Hell because I chained them up in my back yard all their poor life and you are the first actual people they ever saw apart from me. I'll just assume you still want to go ahead with that Christmas booking I also made..

A. In your dreams.

Q. How many dogs do you have at once?

A. We score guests on a points system that includes factors such as yapping the instant you turn your back, not coming when called, size, peeing on the furniture, special needs etc. No dog is perfect and we love each doggie the same - but some are more work than others so if we have a couple of high maintenance doggies, we'll mark our calendar as Unavailable for further guests that day.

Five to six ‘dogs’ is about ideal for us, but some dogs count as two dogs and some count as half a dog :). If your dog is a regular guest and you have a last minute surprise trip we have two households, and can make room for them, even on Christmas Day, no matter what.

We have discovered that sometimes things go more smoothly with more doggies. Creating a functional dog pack is akin to an art form. It needs very different types of doggies so there is a good mix. The old ones need young ones to keep them active and engaged, the young ones need the old ones to learn how to behave and all packs need Sentinel dogs to ensure no one is being too annoying. Everyone needs someone about their own energy level.

Dogs actually learn a lot from watching other dogs.

Q. Do you separate dogs according to size?

A. Somewhat. Certainly till they have run off some energy that day. Most dogs know where their paws are to the nearest millimeter, but there is the occasional large clumsy dog who will certainly not be let loose with someone fragile or tiny.

But, for the most part, once they’ve run around the yard a few times, a big dog and a little dog won’t have any problems.

Q. I have an extremely shy dog who went on meet and greets with 6 other sitters and cowered in the corner the whole time. What do I do?

A. Ask to come round on a quiet day, which is likely to be a a Monday, Tuesday or a Wednesday, and we will introduce them to Fang, Shadow or Ranger and begin the socialization process. With a little luck and persistence we can get them to understand other dogs.

Q. I have an extremely shy dog cowering in my car whenever I take her anywhere and I’m going to go without a meet a greet, arrive when the weekend doggies are showing up, ignore you telling me FOUR times to place my scared doggy behind the baby gates so she can meet doggies one by one — when SHE says she is ready — then I’m going to open the glass sliding door and let the whole pack on my precious baby all at once. Then I’ll complain there are too many dogs.

A. Congratulations on being the first client I booted out. As her pack leader, you are supposed to protect her. You scared the living daylights out of your dog and she cowers in your car because this isn’t the first time.

Q. Do you have any special requirements?

A. Yes. All doggies agree to support the England soccer team for any World Cup competitions that might occur during their stay.

Q. My dog once growled at another doggy in the dog park. Is my doggy too agressive for you?

A. Usually the doggy doing the growling isn’t the problem. The doggy in its face is the problem! If your doggy growls at pushy dogs or puppies who ignore the head turn (“leave me alone”) signal, your dog is helping with their socialization. Happy to have your doggy.

Q. You gave me a tracking Tile so if I ever lose my doggy you or I will be able to set an alert in the Tile app and maybe find out where my precious doggy is without someone needing to catch them first. What a great idea, so kind of you. I’m so delighted I took the Tile off and put it in a drawer to keep it safe and next time Doggy came to see you they didn’t even have a collar on let alone their Tile. Aren’t I Special?

A. If your furniture ever escapes out of your yard you’ll be in luck.

Q. Will you really give me a free Tile?

A. Yes. And if your doggy manages to return a few times with it still on, I’ll upgrade it to the latest model with greater range (Currently Tile Pro 2020).

Q. But my dog has an ID chip, collar and tags. They don’t need a bluetooth Tile that only has a few hundred feet of range at best.

A. Your tag and ID chip rely on someone seeing the dog, bothering to catch the dog and deciding not to keep such a sweet doggy all for themselves then taking them to a vet, then the vet must know there are TWO ID chip systems and use a scanner for both and your chip must have your current contact details. Call me cynical but I think it might be asking rather a lot of too many random people.

A Tile reported lost will signal to anyone running the app nearby. The range depends on the environment and which Tile model you have but can be 100-400ft. The nearby phone will send the location information to me (and to you if I have ‘shared’ the Tile with you) The owner of the phone running the app doesn’t even know it happened and might not have seen a scared doggy hiding in the bushes. Their range is effectively unlimited.

A Tile will not run out of battery for about a year, and the latest models have replaceable batteries. They aren’t perfect — as GPS trackers are better, but GPS batteries die inside 3 days and you can’t find them if they fall off in the yard, yet.

Q. I am going to insist on a meet and greet at your absolute busiest time. A weekend, or, for bonus points, an actual public holiday. I think it would be so exciting to bring a new doggy into all that, and I can’t wait to hear all six doggies woofing at once, which will go on for at least an hour! We’ll both have to shout over the din and this’ll get the doggies even more excited and woofy. The booking isn’t for two actual months, and you’ll never see me again because I booked with a sitter who wasn’t as nice as you but whose house, on a random Monday morning, when there were no actual dogs, was so much more peaceful.

A. Good.

Q. When my doggy stays with you, what should we bring?

A. Keep it minimal! Food. A special bowl if only they refuse to eat out of anything else. For anxious doggies, an unwashed shirt or socks from your laundry pile. A crate only if they cannot sleep without one. Beds tend to get chewed up and no-one ever sleeps in their own bed here.

Feel free to bring food in plastic resealable bags, portioned out, or just the whole bag. All their food and belongings will go into labelled burgle-proof plastic tubs anyway. If you doggy needs their own toys they will be placed on their own to play with them.

Q. Oh no I miscalculated my doggy’s food and they ran out or I need to extend my trip. Will their sad starving little face have to watch all the other doggies eat their dinners while they get none?

A. We’ll go out and get some more. Happens a lot actually. Meds too. If it didn’t arrive in the original packaging, we’ll message and ask what it was.

Q. I’m not going to read your profile at all. You have a lot of reviews so I will assume everything will be to my satisfaction. When I show up with doggy, preferably on a Sunday, I will be shocked — utterly SHOCKED to find out other dogs are going to be here.

A. I would respond, but you aren’t going to read that either :) BTW the code phrase to put into your booking enquiry is ‘doggy vacay’.

Q. Now I’m away I’d like to extend my stay for a few days.

A. It’s fine. If we were going to be unavailable for an extension, we would have let you know when you booked.

Q. We have no living relatives. What if there is an accident while we are away and we die in a plane wreck or something?

A. Your doggy will be taken care of and will either stay with us or be found a fantastic, loving, forever home with squirrels to chase and furthermore we’ll be happy to take care of that ourselves not ask some iffy ‘rescue’.

Tender Loving Pet Care offered in my smoke-free home in a safe, clean, family oriented neighborhood. I have had pets ALL my life but currently do not have any, so I have been pet sitting my friend's, neighbor's and family's pets for several years. I am home most of the time so your pet will get lots of attention, cuddle and playtime around the clock! I walk your pet 2-3 times a day and they can have all the outdoor time that they desire in my back yard. I have numerous and excellent references, my friends have even nicknamed me the "dog whisperer"! Any pet coming into my home becomes a family member and I look forward to meeting you and your beloved pet!

I do require vet documents showing that all pets are current on all their vaccinations and that your pet is on flea & tick preventative. Both of these requirements ensure a safe and healthy environment for all the furry friends I provide care to.

I am not able to accept dogs with incontinence issues or dogs that are not completely housebroken. Additionally there is a higher rate for puppies and dogs using indoor puppy pads.

I do request an introductory meeting, either over the phone or at my home, before accepting reservations with new clients. This allows you the opportunity to get to know me better and become familiar with my home environment, and I can get to know more about your pup's needs and your expectations. That way we both can decide if this is a good fit for everyone before we make a solid commitment to each other. I look forward to meeting you and your pup!
