About: Pet care experience I’ve always been an animal person and have spent years around both dogs and cats. I also have a background in canine behavior, so I’m very comfortable reading a dog’s body language and understanding that every animal has a different personality and different needs. I’m equally happy with the energetic ones who want walks, games and plenty of attention, and the quieter pets who would rather curl up nearby and have some company. I’m patient with shy or nervous animals and prefer to let them get comfortable with me at their own pace rather than forcing interaction. I know how important it is to have someone you genuinely trust looking after your pets. When they’re with me, I treat them as I would my own and try to keep their normal routine as unchanged as possible. I’m also a cat owner myself, so I understand that cats very much have their own rules! Whether yours wants constant attention or would prefer to observe me suspiciously from across the room for the first day, I’m perfectly happy either way. About me / Availability My schedule gives me a good amount of flexibility, which means I can spend real time with the pets I’m caring for rather than simply rushing in and out. When I’m house sitting, I’m happy to plan my day around your pet’s normal routine; walks, feeding times, playtime, potty breaks and, of course, plenty of attention. I’m available for overnight stays as well as shorter visits and drop-ins. Most importantly, I want you to be able to go away without worrying about what’s happening at home. I’m reliable, communicative and happy to send photos and little updates while you’re gone. Safety, trust & your home I take both pet safety and the responsibility of being in someone else’s home seriously. Before you leave, I like to know your pet’s normal routine, feeding instructions, walking habits and any little quirks I should be aware of. I’ll follow your instructions rather than changing what your pet is already comfortable with. I’m careful with doors, gates, harnesses and leashes, particularly with pets who are expert escape artists! I also won’t let a dog off leash unless we’ve specifically discussed it and it’s somewhere secure. I’m respectful of your home and your rules too, whether that means no pets on the furniture, certain rooms being off limits, crating at particular times or following a specific feeding schedule. And yes, I’ll send photos. Probably quite a few. 😊 What I’d like to know about your pet The more you tell me, the better I can make things feel normal for your pet while you’re away. I’d love to know their usual feeding and walking schedule, favorite toys and games, where they like to sleep, and anything that tends to make them nervous or excited. Please also tell me about any medications, allergies, dietary restrictions or health needs, as well as how they usually behave around other dogs, cats, children and new people. And definitely tell me the random stuff too, the strange bedtime ritual, the particular spot on the couch that apparently belongs exclusively to them, the toy they refuse to sleep without, or the fact that they’ll stare at me until I understand exactly what they want. Those little details are often the most useful. During the stay I try to make my visits feel less like having a “pet sitter” and more like your pet getting to continue their normal life while you’re away. For dogs, that might mean walks, sniffing time, playing fetch or tug, hanging out together and plenty of affection. If you have a high-energy dog, I’m very comfortable giving them more exercise and stimulation rather than expecting them to be happy with a five-minute walk around the block. With cats, I usually let them decide how quickly they want to become friends. Some are on my lap within five minutes; others need a little time. I’m happy with both. We can play, hang out, watch birds through the window, or simply coexist peacefully until they decide I’m acceptable. Throughout the stay I’ll keep feeding, walks, litter boxes, potty breaks and any other routines on schedule. I’ll also keep you updated so you know everyone is happy and your home is being looked after. I have a flexible schedule, so pet care fits easily into my day. I have two young children who absolutely love animals, so any dog staying with us will get lots of attention, affection and company. I also have cats, but they can be kept in a separate part of the house if your dog isn’t comfortable around them. I’m happy to work around your pet’s normal feeding, walking and sleeping routine as much as possible. I’ll care for your pet as if they were my own. I’m very affectionate and attentive, but I also respect each pet’s personality and boundaries. I’ll follow your instructions closely, keep doors and gates secure, and make sure feeding, walks and medications are handled exactly as requested. I want your pet to feel safe, relaxed and completely at home while they’re with me.
“Valda did a great job with our 1.5yr old German shepherd! She was very responsive and sent update pictures as well. Also, she brought her dog champagne to visit, which helped our dog feel even more comfortable with her!! The house was nice and tidy when we got back too!”

“Michael was amazing. He dog sat for us while we were out of town for 5 nights and he did an amazing job. He was a great communicator, awesome to our 3 big dogs and very tidy and polite. We look forward to having him dog/house sit for us again. He gave us peace of mind that our pups were well taken care of.”

“Kat is absolutely AMAZING and I cannot endorse her enough! I have an elderly cat and a dog, and while I was out of the country for almost two weeks, Kat kept me up to date with pictures and regular communication. They absolutely LOVED their time with her, and I will *definitely* be using Kat every time I travel! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 10/10 And whatever other "perfect score" you can think of”

“Kimmie was great!! Kept us updated with daily status and photos. Would definitely recommend if you want peace of mind that your pet will be left in great hands while you are away.”

“Dorian was terrific. From the moment we met him we felt confident that our kitty and our home would be well taken care of. He did not disappoint. We would gladly have him stay anytime we are away.”

“Lauren has house sat for us several times now. She's super responsive, takes great care of our pets and leaves the house in great shape! As an anxious dog/cat mom, Lauren always puts my mind at ease with transparent updates. I would highly recommend her to anyone!”

“We are so grateful to have found Lilly! She went above and beyond taking care of our sweet girl, Penny, and our home. Our dog is slow to warm-up to new people, and Lilly was patient and let Penny come to her. She sent regular updates and communicated well. We will definitely use Lilly again in the future when we need help! She even washed and cleaned the sheets and left a sweet note. Anyone looking for a pet and home sitter would be lucky to have her.”

Lindsey was lovely and professional when she house sat for my two dogs and cat. She accomodated last minute requests to stay a bit later since my drive home was taking longer than expected. She sent lovely update photos every day and the pets were happy and cared for. Will be booking with Lindsey again!

Mandy is an amazing pet sitter! She took great care of our home and four, high energy dogs. She showed them lots of love and cuddles, play time, and even gave them extra company with her long visits. One of our dogs had digestive issues while we were gone, and Mandy knew exactly what to do to get him back on track. We’re so grateful to her for the peace of mind and care for our fur babies! Highly recommend!

Kim did an excellent job caring for our three large, rambunctious dogs, which includes a puppy and a senior dog. She was attentive and knowledgeable and we felt very reassured they were in good hands. She was communicative and sent plenty of pictures so we know they were being cared for. Additionally, she also took great care of our house and everything was in order when we returned from a long trip. She was flexible and understanding when our flight was delayed by an emergency, which was a huge relief. We highly recommend her as a sitter and will definitely be using her again.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred New Sweden walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in New Sweden maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in New Sweden choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
