âAarĂłn could not have been any more perfect for our puppy. He stayed in our house for a long weekend, and took expert care of the house and our dog. We received regular updates, photos, and texts. Thank you so much AarĂłn!!!â

About: Iâve always owned dogs and cats and Iâve always been an animal lover. My mom asked me what I want to be when I grow up and I said that I want to play the piano for puppies. I canât play an instrument for the life of me, but I applied myself and went to school to become a Veterinary Assistant. And yes; I bathe my cat before applying flea meditation. Need a weekend getaway or a date night. Iâm available on the week days. I am looking for a second job and with my experience this seems like a perfect fit for me. I will follow guidelines/standards set by you! Also, your animal can tell me the when, where, and for how long we should eat, sleep, play, walk, ect.
âDaisy was an absolute delight! Organized, great communication, very conscientious, and left the house exactly as she found it. My labradors loved her and they received plenty of attention. She played fetch, swam with them, and even snuggled once they were tired from their play date! I would definitely use her again.â

âBethany was great!! Iâve never left our boy alone overnight and she came through last-minute so we could attend a wedding. Super grateful and impressed with her professionalism! Plus the photos were cute ?â

About: Growing up with animals my whole life Iâve always had a fond love of my pets. Iâve watched numerous family and friends animals while they were away and loved spending time with every one of their pets. I furthered my education by obtaining a bachelors degree in animals science and working in vet medicine, itâs to safe to say itâs my passion! Canât wait to meet your beloved pets! I currently work at an equine veterinary hospital only 4 days a week. My schedule is flexible enough to maintain your pets normal routines and schedules! Other than work my priority would be your pets! I have a strong love and passion for taking care of animals and take pride in giving the best care to your pets while youâre away! Having 2 dogs and 2 cats of my own, I understand just how important our pets are and how we love them like family. I am passionate about providing the best care for your pets as I would care for my own. I strive to ensure your pets are provided for in the best way possible that fits all your needs and provides comfort and peace of mind to you and your family.
âMarissa was nothing short of exceptional. She watched our three cats and dog for one week. She comes with an expertise regarding animal care and will go above and beyond for your pets. Our border collie is shy and timid around everyone he meets. By the end of the week he was interacting with her via videos she would send us with his tail wagging. We are definitely using Marissa again in the future. She treated our home with respect and was extremely thorough with the direction we left.â

âWe are so thankful for Katie! We were gone all day for a wedding and we were able to enjoy that without having to worry about our dogs. She sent check ins and was super flexible. Our dogs loved her!â

About: I have cared for many animal species ranging from mice to horses. Mostly enjoy the smaller animals such as dogs and cats and everything in between. I have a spacious backyard but also spacious living area just for the smallest animal to biggest. Also being able to accommodate your pets need.
âNina was wonderful with my sheltie. She arrived on time and took notes about my sheltieâs care. She sent pictures and updates daily, and she took her for a walk, played ball with her, and gave her the medication she requires daily. She left my home clean and neat. I will definitely use her again. Carlaâ

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Modesto
We love Brittany! We have hired her to stay at our home while we have travelled both internationally and locally, and we have such peace of mind when we know she is taking care of our furbabies! She is kind, professional, and a wonderful communicator-- she always makes sure to send us pics and updates. We always appreciate that she is so accomodating of our furbaby dynamic (cling-on dogs vs. Escape artist kitties), and our animals are always happy to see her when she starts her visits with us. We would definitely recommend Brittany!

We had a wonderful experience with Maryann! She took such great care of Lucca and treated him like one of her own. She was attentive, caring, and made sure he was comfortable, happy, and well looked after the entire time. It gave us so much peace of mind knowing he was in such loving hands. We truly appreciate her kindness, reliability, and the genuine love she has for animals. We highly recommend Maryann to anyone looking for someone trustworthy and compassionate to care for their pets. Thank you, Maryann, for taking such amazing care of Lucca!

Aaron was absolutely fantastic! We needed a dog sitter at the last minute, and he stepped in without hesitation to stay overnight with our two dogs. He took the time to learn each of their unique personalities, behaviors, and eating habits, and provided exceptional care. Our dogs are very particular and have completely different temperaments, but Aaron handled both of them with patience, attentiveness, and genuine kindness. It gave us tremendous peace of mind knowing they were in such capable hands. We came home to two happy, well-cared-for dogs, and we couldnât be more grateful. If youâre looking for someone who is reliable, compassionate, and truly takes the time to understand your pets, I highly recommend Aaron. We would absolutely book him again!

Margerita was great with our two dogs. She made sure they both got the exercise they needed and were well taken care of. She stayed in communication with us and sent pictures. Our one dog can be anxious and timid. Margerita helped him feel comfortable. We will definitely rebook her.

Barbara was absolutely amazing with our 3 dogs! She kept in constant communication with us while we were away and made us feel so at ease. She asks great questions to make sure your fur babies are well taken care of and comfortable. I would have her stay with them in an instant and look forward to having her back. Thank you for being so wonderful, Barbara!

Luna did an amazing job staying and sitting for our senior dog who needs medications twice a day and can be a bit nervous/high strung. Within minutes of being in our home, our dog was snuggled next to her and licking her hand. We are so grateful to have found Luna and have already reached out to rebook!

FAQs for House Sitting - Modesto
Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Modesto on Rover is $37.45 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 440 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Modesto. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitterâs presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Modesto walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your homeâs security or appliances.
Itâs helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Modesto maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate theyâll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your petâs profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Modesto choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Roverâs commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justiceâs National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Modesto. On Rover:
- 89% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 96% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 100% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
