“Makayla so obviously loves animals! Our 11 month old Lab “puppy” is crazy about her and could care less when my husband and I leave. I don’t need to worry at all while we’re away, plus we get photos and updates too. She’s intelligent, caring and personable. We will most definitely call on her again. Jan &Tex Billings”

About: Hi, I’m Ethan! I’m 19 and I’m ready to make sure your pets are happy, healthy, and entertained under my care! I have had pets of my own since I was young and love animals. I am most experienced in cat and dog care (all ages), but can care for smaller animals as well! I am always ready and willing to learn your pet’s exact needs and wants in order to fulfill them. Though I have my own pets I am well experienced in taking care of other people’s as well! I have been providing pet and house care services for friends and family since my pre teen years- it’s something I’m passionate about! Thank you for reading and I hope to care for your fur baby soon! :) I just graduated (class of 2025) and am looking forward to making this my part time job during this gap year, and hopefully in the long run! I love animals/pets and helping others, and am ready to dedicate my time to this important work for you and your pets included! I am prepared to learn your pets needs no matter how simple or complex they are- my top concern is your pets happiness and health! I promise any instructions discussed and or left for your pets and home will be followed to a T! This includes pets who are particular about how things are done, such as walks, meal time, Potty breaks, and etc (such as my own pets are- lol!) I understand that being welcomed into somebody’s home and taking care of their fur babies is a privilege.

About: I love animals and would love to help you watch yours if you're out or take them on walks for you! I had a German-Shorthaired Pointer/Labrador mix for 11 years, he passed away recently but brought years of joy and experience with a highly-energetic dog. I recently got my first cat, and I have lived with several other dogs and cats. I do not have any professional experience grooming or dealing with animals, but I am more than willing to help out with letting dogs out, taking them on walks, etc. I definitely have plenty of experience walking dogs because of my little guy. I look forward to hearing from you soon! I currently have quite open availability, almost any day and time should work with some notice, and I will try to make it work regardless. I have a fenced-in yard where a dog can go outside/play fetch. I have 1 cat, but he can be kept in a separate area of the house if preferred.
“Bethany stayed with our two dogs for a week while we were on vacation. Throughout our trip, Bethany provided daily updates about how the dogs were doing, along with pictures. We really appreciated the great communication. When we arrived home, our dogs were happy and healthy. We highly recommend Bethany, and will be asking her to stay with our dogs again the next time we are out of town.”

“Katie did a great job watching our dogs last night! She was reliable, easy to communicate with, and took great care of them. We came home to happy pups and really appreciated having someone we could trust with them. We would definitely have her watch them again!”

“Regina is amazing. She took amazing care of my sweet senior pup Bodie. She was patient with him as he is a little stubborn on walks with new people. She left my apartment sparkly clean and was super communicative. I’m so glad I found Regina and I hope to have her watch Bodie again soon. Highly recommended.”
“Rebecca is wonderful. She is extremely conscientious and personable. The dogs both liked her immediately. My Aussie is a picky boy so this is saying something! I felt comfortable with Rebecca staying at my house and confident my dogs were safe. My dogs are around 60 and 50lbs. I will be calling on her again!”

“I am so glad I found Aarón! He took amazing care of my pets while I was on a 3 day work trip. Having him sit while I was away totally eased my mind and took away the anxiety I had about who would care as much for my fur babies as I would while I was gone. He totally exceeded my expectations on house and pet care and my pets love him.”

About: Hi pet parents! I am a college student at Cal Poly! I am an Animal Science major and plan on becoming a veterinarian. I have pet sat for family and friends for many years. I have experience with cats and dogs of all sizes. I have shadowed vets to gain experience for vet school so I have seen how animals are handled in a professional setting. I have a great passion for working with animals, and I can’t wait to meet your pet! Although I am a busy college student, I am very willing and able to care for your pets! I am able to work around my class schedule. Your pets safety is one of my priorities. I believe creating a sense of trust with your pet helps ensure their safety. I am very patient with animals and always want the best for them.
“I'm so happy that I found Amanda! She handled my three doggies with ease and on short notice. It's no small thing having a stranger sleep in your house, but I felt at ease with Amanda. She was a perfect house guest, and I came home to three calm and happy dogs.”

“Marissa was nothing short of exceptional. She watched our three cats and dog for one week. She comes with an expertise regarding animal care and will go above and beyond for your pets. Our border collie is shy and timid around everyone he meets. By the end of the week he was interacting with her via videos she would send us with his tail wagging. We are definitely using Marissa again in the future. She treated our home with respect and was extremely thorough with the direction we left.”

About: I've been an avid animal lover for most of my life. I've had the amazing experience of dog sitting for 4 awesome dogs and taking care of my own dog Max for 11 amazing years. I've worked with dogs old and young (4-11 years of age), big and small (12-110 pounds). Although I haven't been given a chance to petsit for cats yet, I would love to be given an opportunity. I've loved every experience I've had with these amazing pets and hope to extend the same courtesy to your furry family members. I am currently a contract worker so my schedule is pretty free Monday-Friday whatever time of day. I am also available for whatever weekends you see open in my calender. My calendar is currently updated through August of 2026. I am very meticulous when it comes to following whatever rules and regulations pet parents put in place. I make it my goal to provide the best experience for the owners piece of mind on the quality of care for their fur babies.
About: Growing up on the farm, there was no shortage of canines in my life starting very early. Companions, service dogs, working dogs, strays who wandered up and never left, I’ve taken care of almost every shape and size of dog! Starting with the chocolate lab I saved up for from my local rescue at 8 years old, to my most recent geriatric chihuahua, I love them all! I’m an artist with a very flexible schedule looking to fill a need in my community! I can accommodate nearly every shape and size of situation—especially holidays and last minute bookings! As someone with very high standards, I only wish to provide the services that I absolutely expect for my pets! You can always count on me to follow your instructions thoroughly and to the letter; your pet’s healthy and safety and your satisfaction as an owner is of the utmost importance to me!
“If I weren't moving out of Modesto, I wouldn't write a good review so my dog, who has horrible separation anxiety would have her all to himself!??. Daisy was absolutely fantastic with him, he was smiling in all of his pix AND she got him to eat while I was gone! He usually doesn't eat for at least two days if I leave him with someone. He got his walks and cuddles. THANK YOU, Daisy you ARE the BEST!”

About: I've taken care of dogs for 3 weeks at a time. I've trained dogs basic skills like sit, down, roll over, turn around, leave it, and sit and stay. I've had many dogs of my own and 2 cats I'm available to watch animals before and after work and I can also attend to them in between 12 and 1 on my lunch break. I work from 8:00 to 5:00. I'm early riser. I Love to keep them happy while their owners are away. When I'm caring for animals, I spend time with them I make sure they're well fed and have plenty of water. What makes me happy is having your baby happy while you are away. I love taking them for walks or even going to the park. I do like cuddling. I have no problem with your fur baby sleeping with me at night.

We love Brittany! We have hired her to stay at our home while we have travelled both internationally and locally, and we have such peace of mind when we know she is taking care of our furbabies! She is kind, professional, and a wonderful communicator-- she always makes sure to send us pics and updates. We always appreciate that she is so accomodating of our furbaby dynamic (cling-on dogs vs. Escape artist kitties), and our animals are always happy to see her when she starts her visits with us. We would definitely recommend Brittany!

Aaron was absolutely fantastic! We needed a dog sitter at the last minute, and he stepped in without hesitation to stay overnight with our two dogs. He took the time to learn each of their unique personalities, behaviors, and eating habits, and provided exceptional care. Our dogs are very particular and have completely different temperaments, but Aaron handled both of them with patience, attentiveness, and genuine kindness. It gave us tremendous peace of mind knowing they were in such capable hands. We came home to two happy, well-cared-for dogs, and we couldn’t be more grateful. If you’re looking for someone who is reliable, compassionate, and truly takes the time to understand your pets, I highly recommend Aaron. We would absolutely book him again!

Regina did a great job watching our dogs in our home for 2 nights! She was reliable, easy to communicate with, and took great care of them. We came home to happy pups and really appreciated having someone we could trust with them. We would definitely have her watch them again!

Barbara was absolutely amazing with our 3 dogs! She kept in constant communication with us while we were away and made us feel so at ease. She asks great questions to make sure your fur babies are well taken care of and comfortable. I would have her stay with them in an instant and look forward to having her back. Thank you for being so wonderful, Barbara!

Loveli's name is a great description to her character, she is very Lovely!! I could not be more pleased with the care Loveli provided for my 9 year old Jack Russell, Annie. I was going to be out of the country for two weeks and was very nervous about leaving. Three weeks prior to my trip, Annie was diagnosed with lymphoma and a week later suffered a spinal cord injury. She was on three different medications and needed constant care with her mobility. Loveli and Annie instantly bonded. Within a week Annie was walking on her own. I credit Loveli's passionate care for how well Annie recovered. We're still dealing with her cancer but she is doing remarkable. Both Annie and I have bonded with a very special person.

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in McHenry on Rover is $54.25 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 524 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across McHenry. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred McHenry walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in McHenry maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in McHenry choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in McHenry. On Rover:
- 88% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 97% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 100% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
