“Heather is wonderful! If you want a grown up taking care of your pets and home just like you do, Heather is who you want! She is incredibly communicative, sends photos and updates, and takes wonderful care of the fur babies and home. Highly recommend!”

“Claudia and Mario were great sitters, our dog loved them! They sent pictures to let us know how she was doing and she seemed to be doing great when we got back. We would definitely rebook with them in the future!”

“Jessie went above and beyond for all of our pets every single day! She cared for our two dogs, cat, and chickens while we were away. She gave everyone extra walks, love, and treats each day. She also sent multiple text, picture, and video updates throughout the day of walks, play time, or everyone just relaxing. Our pets were showed the same love and care as she would for her own. Hands down, she is who you want caring for your animals while you are away.”

“Amari was so great with our dog! He doesn’t like new people coming in the house but she came and met him before our trip to help ease that, and was so patient with him. Amari sent updates and pictures and we could tell our dog was happy and enjoying his new friend. I’d love to have her back in our home any time!”

About: Hi! I'm an animal lover at heart, and I've been taking care of dogs since I was 11, dog sitting for neighbors (with plenty more experience caring for our family dog, Thalia — she turns 13 this year!) I'm currently on summer vacation from Virginia Tech and have my own car, so I have a completely flexible schedule. I should be able to be with your pet whenever you need me. I love spending time with all dogs, and I will be happy getting them all the enrichment and exercise they need. If you have routines that they love, I'll work to keep those up. I can't offer boarding services, but if you need someone for walking your dog or pet sitting at your house, you can count on me.
“Kirsten has become our go to pet sitter! She is fantastic! She sends lots of photos and updates and is very responsive! Shes helped us out on multiple last minute trips! Thanks so much as always Kirsten!”

“Justice was absolutely fabulous with our two dogs and cat. We know that she took great care of them because when we returned from our trip, they were relaxed and happy. She sent us some pictures and answered every time I sent a message. We would recommend her wholeheartedly.”

“Denise was great with our golden retriever. She kept us in the loop with pictures and texts. Will definitely book her again for Finley!! Very dependable and could even tell she stayed at the house.”

“I was amazed at how quickly Chauncey (our rescue dachsshnd) warmed up the Nancye. She has this innate ability to know a dog and his needs, placing that as top priority. She texted with pictures often, I left home for a much needed few days away without a worry at all. HIGHLY recommend and feel sure we'll want Nancye to pet/house sit for us again--SOON!”
“Madison was so great during her stay with Copper! I got regular updates with pictures and videos, and she was so kind, understanding, and flexible. Plus, my house my perfectly in order and clean and when I got back. I would book her again without hesitation!”

“Sofia stayed at our home with our two pups for a week while we were away on vacation. She was kind, respectful, and responsible. We came home to a clean, well cared for house and two very happy pups. Will absolutely use her again. Highly recommend!”

About: I’ve had and been around pets my whole life and have experience with animals of all sizes. I have house-sat, dog walked, and done routine checking on pets for multiple years for friends and family. I also volunteer at the animal shelter to help animals in need I’m currently working part time and only work a few days a week so I am available almost all the time to check in and help out with animals. My long shifts also contain breaks so I can interact with animals throughout the day even while working. I know how to handle all kinds of pets in all kinds of sizes and I care for each animal as if it were my own. The safety and health of your animal is my top priority while they are under my care.
About: I’ve been around and taking care of dogs since I was 7. I grew up training all of our puppies and continuing to love them now at their old age. I’m comfortable with cats and dogs of large/medium to small. I’m currently a full time college student. Available to sit weekdays and weekends. As well as walks during the day. Most of my mornings are free and afternoons as well. I enjoy spending my free time with animals, last year I spent a lot of time at the animal shelter hanging out with dogs and cats! I am able to come to your home, in you and your dogs/cats environment to keep your animals company, safe, and well loved while you’re away.

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Merrimac
Jessie clearly has a bond with animals. Our dogs and cats warmed up to her instantly, and she sent frequent updates about their well-being while we were away. She followed all instructions to the letter - including regular treats and walks, and special attention to our big dog who had separation anxiety. We returned to a thoroughly clean house and happy critters!
Lexi did an amazing job watching our 2 dogs and a friends dog while we attended a wedding!! She was communicative, confident and did a great job with making sure they were each cared for in their own way. Would definitely recommend and use again!! Thank you!!

Yulia did a great job pet sitting for us! She was a very responsive communicator and asked a lot of thoughtful questions up front to make sure we were both well-prepared. She did her best to dodge rainy weather and take Frankie on nice long walks while we were away. Loved getting pictures and updates from her on the first day and appreciated her responsiveness when I reached out on the day we were headed home.

Alyssa was fabulous! Our 4-legged babies were pampered all week and didn’t seem to miss us a bit! We have already booked our next trip with Alyssa and greatly appreciate the stress she took off of our pouches while we were able to enjoy a vacation! Highly recommend!

Sarah is fantastic! She has been my regular dog walker for months (highly recommend!), and she just pet sat my dog and cat at my house for several days while I was out of town. She is so great-- very attentive and gentle with animals. My pets took to her immediately when they first met. I appreciate that Sarah gives me updates and photos and is generally great about communication. I also appreciate that she is so respectful of my home and left it tidy. Do not hesitate to hire Sarah!!!

Denise is absolutely wonderful! She kept us updated regularly and sent lots of pictures. We will definitely be using Denise’s services again, our Yorkies love her! They were their happy selves when we got home and that’s how we know they were well cared for. Our home was so tidy, with dishes, towels and bedding washed - Denise went above and beyond!

Justice was absolutely fabulous with our two dogs and cat. We know that she took great care of them because when we returned from our trip, they were relaxed and happy. She sent us some pictures and answered every time I sent a message. We would recommend her wholeheartedly.

Helen is fantastic! We’ve used her in the past and will absolutely use her again in the future! Frankie is so happy and well taken care of by Helen, and Helen takes equally great care of the house. We’re grateful to have such a reliable and responsible dog sitter available to us!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Merrimac on Rover is $42.18 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 351 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Merrimac. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Merrimac walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Merrimac maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Merrimac choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Merrimac. On Rover:
- 100% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 96% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 95% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
