“Jazzel was an excellent dog walker. She helped me when my current dog walker could not continue walking buddy. She reported all the details of the visit efficiently and gave us peace of mind. She was punctual, informative and responsible. This was my first time using rover and I had a great experience thanks to Jazzel. I will definitely work with her in the future.”

“I am so glad we picked Scott to check in on our cats while we were away on vacation! The “report cards” were great and filled with lots of photos and videos! Scott is professional and clearly cares a lot about animals. 10/10 will book again!”

“I cannot Believe how awesome Jason has been. Very happy I found him to take care of my dog and go to my apartment to check on him!! Absolutely worth more than 5 stars”

“Michael is, as always, a wonderful caretaker of our two cats, Ari and Bon-Bon. They have come to know him quite well, and they bond to him each time he visits them. We know him as someone who will give superb TLC to any pet he cares for, and we recommend him highly!”

“Thank you Rebecca for another great sit with Winnie! Winnie is very finicky with her food and Rebecca made sure to spend extra time helping Winnie eat and let us know what her eating patterns were.”

“Maya is awesome! We needed a sitter in a pinch and she made an effort to fit in a meet and greet right away. She followed directions perfectly with our cat and was super responsive and easy to communicate with! Will def book again. Thanks, Maya!”

“Wataru took excellent care of Rory and sent regular updates with pictures. He went out of his way to spend some quality time with my cat besides just feeding etc. Definitely recommend even for long trips. Thanks Wataru!”

About: I’ve grown up surrounded by dogs and cats my entire life! Over my 25 years, my family has had two Rottweilers, a Pitbull, and a cat, all of whom lived long, loved lives before sadly passing from old age. Today, my family has a Cocker Spaniel, several Yorkies, and two cats, all of whom I absolutely adore! Having cared for everything from large, energetic breeds to smaller dogs and cats, I’m comfortable with animals of all shapes, sizes, and personalities. I’ve also experienced caring for pets as they grow older, so I understand the importance of patience, gentleness, and adapting to their needs. I recently moved into my own place, and one of the things I miss most is coming home to my family’s dogs and cats. That’s a big part of why I’d love to become a pet sitter! I genuinely enjoy the companionship animals bring, and I’d be thrilled to give your furry family members the same love, attention, and affection I’ve always given my own. I know pets aren’t just animals; they’re family. My goal is to make sure yours feel just as safe, comfortable, and loved with me as they do with you! My schedule is pretty flexible! I typically work from home or close by, which means I can be a very present and attentive sitter rather than leaving your pets alone for long periods. Whether your pet needs regular walks, feeding, playtime, bathroom breaks, or just someone to keep them company throughout the day, I’m happy to accommodate their routine as much as possible. I’m also open to overnight stays and boarding! Since I live on my own, I have the flexibility to make your pet feel welcome and give them plenty of one-on-one attention. I understand that every pet has different needs, so I’m always happy to communicate and coordinate with owners to find a schedule that works best for everyone! Your pet’s safety, happiness, and comfort will always be my top priorities! Having grown up caring for several different breeds, including large dogs and smaller companions, I understand that every animal has its own personality, boundaries, and needs. Whether I’m caring for your pet in my home or yours, I’ll do my best to maintain their usual routine so they feel comfortable and secure. That includes following feeding instructions, keeping up with walks and bathroom breaks, providing plenty of affection, and respecting any specific rules or preferences you have. I recently moved into my own place, where I have a fenced yard for your furry friends to safely enjoy some fresh air, playtime, and exercise! My home offers a peaceful, comfortable environment where your pets can relax and receive plenty of individual attention. I’ll always supervise outdoor activities and make sure your pet feels safe and welcome. I also believe communication is incredibly important! I’m more than happy to send regular pictures, videos, and updates so you can enjoy your time away knowing your furry family member is in good hands. Most importantly, I’ll treat your pets the way I’ve always treated my own: with love, patience, kindness, and lots of cuddles (if they’re into that, of course!).
“Azucena was a great cat sitter for my cats. She is the most well prepared and detailed sitter that I have ever booked. I look forward to having her sit for my cats the next time I need a sitter.”

About: I've been a professional pet sitter for two years and have had my own kitty for two more! I've taken care of dogs, cats, birds, lizards, no animal too big, no challenge too small. I am currently available for pet care most of the day, every day! I usually prefer mornings, afternoons, and evenings, but can do nights with proper planning! I tend to emphasize being vigilant, not only to make sure nothing wrong happens in the environment, but also to make sure every pet looks happy, healthy, and satisfied. I take my kitty's personal daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance very seriously and am not one to shy from acknowledging if something seems wrong. That's what good communication is for!
About: I love dogs. All sizes but I have a soft spot for small dogs. I'm the type that like to do long walks and go to doggie parks. Im currently working full time but I know some people work late nights and their puppies need some loving and affection while they are gone. Im that person to give it. Im free from 5:30 to 9pm. Monday through Friday and 10am to 10pm Saturday and Sunday I know how hard it is to trust someone with your baby (I see all pets as babies) so I take this responsibility very serious. I want you to know how caring and responsible and understanding of the importance of taking care of your puppy. I have some puppy toys and a crate for certain times of the day. Doggy parks are a must as well. Plus im very energetic and love playing
“Big thanks to Natalia and Edward for taking such amazing care of our two cats! They were very attentive and communicative and made sure everything went smooth while we were away. I could tell my cats were happy and well-loved, which says a lot of the care Natalia and Edward provided. I really appreciated the updates—they kept me totally at ease. I am particularly thankful for the daily pictures and for flagging that one of the automatic feeders wasn't working properly. Reach out to them if you’re looking for trustworthy pet sitters.”

About: Hi, I'm Ryan. I live in a house in Elkridge, MD with a large fenced backyard. I run a dog rescue and have over 15 years of experience caring for dogs. I've had dogs from 3lbs to 150lbs. I currently have a 8ish year old mix that is very used to other dogs coming and going. He is a great playmate or nap buddy for other dogs. I have experience with giving medication to dogs and cats ranging from pills, eye cream, ear drops, liquid in the mouth, insulin shots and other injections. I am comfortable and experienced with dogs of all sizes and temperaments. I often work from home and am able to be with the dogs most of the day. Most days I am available to go on walks with your pup! I love all dogs and can't wait to meet yours! I require all dogs coming into my yard/home be on flea/tick preventative, up to date on rabies, distemper, bordetella and canine influenza. I work from home so your pet will rarely be alone. I am able to provide extra potty breaks or give extra attention if needed. I have a large grassy backyard with a 4 foot fence and one dog that is always down for a play buddy but will also happily nap on the couch. I have extra crates if ever needed.
“Faith was amazing!! It’s always very anxiety inducing for me to leave my cats, especially since my one is very shy and easily startled. But she took such good care of them and even got my loner cat to come out for some love!! Faith is very communicative and I loved that she sent plenty of pictures each day. It’s obvious that she loves the cats and taking care of animals! I will not hesitate to book her next time I’m out of town :)”

“Kelly dropped in to check on our two large senior dogs and did a great job. She was responsive, careful to follow the instructions, and beforehand asked good questions to get to know their routines and needs. The dogs seemed to take to her very quickly too. Thank you!”

“Natalia has been great with our cats, making sure that they are happy and cared for while we are away. It's been touching to see one of our timid cats open up to her. We love the text and picture updates.”

Liza was a lifesaver and accepted our request for a drop in visit with only a few days notice. She took great care of our cat. We appreciated the pictures she sent and it was obvious our cat, who is normally very scared around strangers, was very happy, relaxed and comfortable around her. Would definitely recommend!

Karen was excellent! Highly recommend. She dropped in to care for my dog during the workday over the course of two weeks while my husband was away on a trip. My dog adored Karen. She was very responsive and took excellent care of him. I would definitely rebook with Karen.

Becca is great! She’s taking care of my foster kitties twice now and is so good with them. I always get detailed reports so I don’t have to worry about them! She also went above and beyond, even coordinating with the rescue so that they could be in the loop with their care.

Marika checked in on our two cats while we were on vacation. She was thorough in her communications, took great pictures, and gave our cats excellent care. They were peaceful and calm when we got home, a sure sign that they were happy while we were gone. Were very grateful!

India was wonderful with Pety and Chewy! She was reliable, attentive, and took great care of them during her visits. She kept us updated, which gave us peace of mind while we were away. We would definitely trust her with our dogs again and highly recommend her!

Ilana is great! She took care of our senior cat Fifi while we were away for a week and a half. It was a bit of a last minute request and Ilana was very accommodating. We felt very comfortable going out of town knowing Fifi was in Ilana’s care. She kept us updated the entire time, giving us peace of mind so that we could enjoy our time away. Would 100% recommend and will definitely be reaching out again next time we need someone to drop in on Fifi.

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
You and your sitter can agree on a care schedule that fits your pet’s routine and the sitter’s availability. Pet Sitting can be booked as a one-time or recurring drop-in visit. If you need overnight care or dog walks, you may also be able to book House Sitting or Dog Walking through Rover with the same sitter, provided they offer those services.
Before booking, confirm:
- the timing, length, and frequency of visits;
- the care instructions the sitter should follow;
- which parts of your pet’s usual routine should be prioritized;
- how often you would like to receive messages, photos, or other updates.
Not every sitter offers the same services, availability, or booking options. Review their profile and discuss the care you need through Rover before booking each service.
If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poop breaks occurred. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available 24/7 by email or chat if you have concerns.
The personalized, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.
Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a lockbox. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalized codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.
If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
A Meet & Greet is a casual meeting to vet potential sitters and communicate care needs for peace of mind before a booking begins. Only sitters who have never booked with you before can schedule a Meet & Greet on Rover; however, you are welcome to coordinate one in Rover messages with sitters you have previously booked. This can be helpful if you have a new pet or routine you want to go over with your sitter.
Meet & Greets can take place in person or virtually. If you are booking with a sitter for the first time, we recommend in-person Meet & Greets to get a clearer sense of how your sitter interacts with your pet or the new environment.
During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Meet & Greets are a great way to prepare your pet and sitter for longer stays or first-time bookings. Read our tips for your first .
sitters on Rover set their own , which you can find on their profile under their contact information. Sitters may set a same-day, one-, three-, or seven-day cancellation policy. Cancelling within your sitter’s cancellation policy qualifies you for a full refund.
Same-day cancellations for recurring services, which include walks, drop-ins, and day care, follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for pet boarding and house sitting, if you cancel after 12 pm on the applicable cancellation deadline, you’ll receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for any remaining days.
