“We have been clients of Merriam B since our puppy rescue gave us 4 training sessions with GoodPup. Merriam has held our hands and paws through every stage of puppyhood. She is an amazing wealth of knowledge both for puppy training and puppy development. She been able to help us navigate breed specific issues. Merriam is also a veterinary technician with years of experience. There has not been a single issue Merriam has not been able to help us navigate. We also spent a lot of money on a local in person trainer that was a complete waste of resources compared to our time with Merriam. If you are considering a virtual dog trainer I highly recommend Merriam without her our adorable but rambunctious schnauzer pup would have been returned to the rescue.”

“Fantastic! She was immediately engaging. She had a wealth of information. Our rescue is 8 years old and she had him responding to cues so quickly. I was really impressed. Definitely recommend Jessica 10/10!”

“Olga has been helping with training for my moms and my pups Rory and Ivy. They are both already showing progress after two sessions. I would highly recommend Olga for training and dog walking.”

“Caleb was such a great help in getting me to understand how to best help my dog Max. He is kind and Max was engaged in the training the whole time. Well worth the money and time. I highly recommend Caleb for anyone looking for a better relationship with their dog.”

“We were very impressed with our initial meeting with Michaela. She explained her methodology very well and gave us additional resources to enhance Bellas training experience.”

“Karen was incredibly insightful and helpful with our new rescue dog. She was able to help us identify some patterns of behavior and corrections that we had been struggling with. 100/10 would recommend. My puppy and I will be seeing her again!”

“Erin has achieved things I hadn’t thought possible with our old dog. The old adage of “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” doesn’t apply when Erin works with her. For the first time, our dog doesn’t pull on leashes, nor does she react when other dogs walk past. She incudes good ‘brain games’ to keep her fresh and always provides great updates!”

“We were referred to Deborah via our groomer who said it best, Deborah has earned her place in the dog training Pantheon! We could not have been more impressed by the way our girl took to her instruction and care. I’m convinced Deborah speaks dog. Will continue to recommend her to anyone seeking training. THANKS DEBORAH”

“Rachel is fantastic! Patient and understanding when meeting our reactive dog, great communication, punctual, and clearly very knowledgeable. She spent a huge amount of time with us, listened carefully to all our challenges and offered helpful advice that made a big difference for our Thanksgiving gathering already. Hope we can find the time to work with her again soon!”

“Jessika was fantastic! After just one consultation, I felt like she really understood my goals and Sampsons behavior challenges. Sampson immediately felt comfortable with her. She left me with training suggestions and modeled the behavior/reward plan with me throughout our session. We set a follow up plan and I look forward to continuing to work together. I definitely recommend her, you won’t be disappointed!”

“Leyan, From the bottom of our little hearts we are so lucky to have picked you! You are so loving, patient, and have great knowledge about training. Thank you for everything this evening. We can’t wait to work with you again.”

“We have been using Kristin for training of our golden retriever puppy, currently 7 months old. Kristin is very patient with Maisie and is very knowledgeable about training techniques and the developmental stages of puppies. She uses a positive reinforcement approach to training. She is also great at follow up after our training sessions. We highly recommend her!”

“I’ve known Meagan for years, and she has helped with both my personal dogs and rescue dogs. She’s professional in assessing situations and communicating with clients, tailoring training to each dog’s unique needs. Meagan understands how dogs think and devises plans accordingly. In rescue, many dogs have troubled pasts, but her patience, calm demeanor, and understanding are unmatched. Her thoughtfulness and expertise make her my go-to for anything dog-related.”

Dog Training FAQs
Frequently asked questions about Rover
Trainers listing on Rover must be credentialed dog trainers, commit to reward-based training methods, and pass a background check to offer dog training in Kansas City.
Reward-based training encourages dogs to offer desired behaviors by reinforcing the behavior with something the dog likes; treats, play, or toys. Reward-based training prioritizes using the least intrusive intervention; it promotes thinking rather than punishing mistakes.
When rewards are used, the likelihood the behavior is repeated increases. The positive connection to the reward results in making learning enjoyable, strengthens the human animal bond and over time leads to consistent desired behaviors.
Training can happen many places — your home, a park, a store, or anywhere else that you and your trainer decide is best for the training you are doing! Many trainers will recommend training in your home. This allows them to observe your dog in their natural environment so they can effectively assess and best help reach your training goals.
Trainers will often mention on their profile where they typically hold training sessions, but you can always contact a trainer to learn more!
Rover makes it easy to find Kansas City dog trainers to provide loving care from their own home. The background-checked, 5-star trainers you can find on Rover will work with you and your dog to build new skills and address behaviors. Dog trainers can work on:
- Puppy training, adult dog training, agility training, clicker training and advanced training.
- Behaviors such as barking, leash manners, leash reactivity, house manners, jumping, fearful behavior, anxious behavior, separation distress, recall, biting, chewing, mouthiness, potty training and resource guarding.
Of course! Having a trainer that is the right fit for both you and your pup is an important step to reaching your training goals. We recommend reaching out to any trainer that interests you. Your initial request is not final until both you and the trainer decide you want to move forward with booking.
Also, trainers may offer or require consultations. Make sure to ask trainers so you can make the best decision for you and your pet.
Many trainers on Rover indicate experience in a wide range of behaviors, from puppy training to more advanced behaviors and training types.
Review a trainer’s profile to see if their experience aligns with your needs, and if you have questions, don’t hesitate to contact them to ensure they’re the right trainer for you and your pet.
We get it—sometimes plans change and you may need to cancel your dog training service. You can cancel an upcoming booking directly from the Rover app or your computer, in accordance with your trainer’s cancellation policy.
