Lighting the Way Forward

I started my dog training career working with shelter dogs, who were often dealing with heightened stress and unique behavioral challenges. They have helped me learn about meeting each dog where they are at, and working to put together pieces of the puzzle that defines each individual dog. What started in the shelter has blossomed into helping pet parents find better unity and build stronger bonds with their beloved animals.

What to expect

Consultation

For all new clients, I require an initial consultation. During a consultation, we'll get an opportunity to get to know one another and I will get to know your dog(s). We'll also discuss your dog's behavior and known history and you'll have a chance to share what your goals are. We will discuss what some of your biggest challenges are as well as your accomplishments and what motivates your dog. We will set expectations and formulate a training plan to guide our sessions moving forward. You will have an opportunity to ask me questions and make sure I am the right fit for your needs.

Sessions

Typically in your home

I like my sessions to be as hands-on as possible! Be ready to put in some work and help you and your dog become an even better team. Training sessions typically last 45 minutes but may stretch up to an hour. I will demonstrate exercises that are beneficial to your goals, and have you practice them. My goal is to equip you with the skills you will need to be successful on your own. Taking the time to continue practicing, even for 5-10 minutes a day, is essential for progress, as success does not come overnight!

Positive Reinforcement

I believe in modern, science-backed dog training methods that focus on rewarding desired behavior, rather than punishing unwanted behavior. My training focuses on helping you build a stronger bond with your dog by improving trust, communication, and understanding. I utilize positive reinforcement to aid in behavior modification and basic training, relying on building a positive relationship between people and dogs. Working with your dog can be challenging, but it should also be fun on both ends of the leash, and I do my best to ensure it is!
