“I'm so happy I found Rebecca to care for my 2-year-old German Shepherd/Border Collie Mix. Pepper is a rescue and is always tentative around visitors and guests. I'm rarely separated from her and was worried about separation anxiety. But after a short time, Bernadette and Pepper were getting along very well. She is very gentle and loving and the only problem was Pepper wanting to shower her in affection! :). Rebecca stayed in my home and took care of everything while I was away. She is 100% trustworthy. I am happy to recommend Rebecca and won't hesitate to use her services again.”

“Gabriela is great. She has been dropping in on my older pup for a few months now (and stayed with her once overnight). Gabriela always provides updates and photos. She's flexible and responsive.”

“Once again Felix provided exceptional care for our senior dog and three cats during our two week vacation abroad. Felix is caring and extremely competent. They dealt with an unexpected health situation that affected our dog and remained calm and professional throughout the ordeal. Once again we came home to find our house in immaculate condition. Cleaner and more tidy in fact than when we left! Thanks, Felix for your excellent care. We highly recommend you to anyone who needs pet sitting services!”
About: All my life I’ve been obsessed with dogs 🐶 When I was finishing up nursing school, I needed to find some part time work to help make ends meet. I found a job as a kennel technician at a commercial dog boarding facility - where I mostly cleaned up to 36 dogs daily messes and gave them social enrichment. I quickly jumped up the short ladder of management and took over as CEO right around my first year mark of employment. I have cared for hundreds, possibly a thousand plus dogs in the last half of my entire lifetime. I’ve worked hard to help dogs and owners alike understand eachother better - communication often needs no words. I specialize in “project pups”, socialization and reactivity. I’ve taken care of newborn puppies to teenage obedience school dropouts - through the medically fragile & elderly pooches on palliative care & absolutely everything in between. I’ve worked in a rescue as an adoption coordinator and had the extreme pleasure of helping people and pooches find their forever spaces together. Along with rescuing over a dozen dogs of my own over the years & nursing several back to health from horrific conditions. Dogs are my passion - simple as that. Nothing makes me happier than helping a dog & owner relationship thrive. I am a stay at home mom, my boys are 2 & 3 years old. They’ve been raised around dogs & already have learned a healthy respect for their space. I am hyper vigilant & always err on the extreme side of caution for everyone’s safety - especially when it comes to those tricky resources. Other than weekly appointments on Mondays - we have a very flexible and open schedule. Our yard is fully fenced with 6 foot - reinforced wood fencing. Gates are double locked to keep toddlers from opening them - dogs too. I have a 10 year old spayed female border collie that I picked from her litter at 3 weeks old. She’s my right hand gal and socially bulletproof when it comes to hanging out with her furry friends. I often used her as the “Ice Breaker” dog when I ran the boarding facility - meaning she did all the temperament testing for any newly boarded dogs we were socially unsure about. We have multiple baby gates, and crate option for separation of space. A dog door built into our back door leading into our fully fenced, toddlerized but maintained, grassy residential yard on a quarter acre. We live in a very quiet tiny town on an even quieter little street, perfect for safely regulated walks and training opportunities.

“Eve and Alyssa did such a fantastic job watching Murphy over Thanksgiving! They kept me updated on how he was doing and when he was being fed/walked, etc. Eve was also a trooper for dealing with my oven going out on the first night. I came home to a happy dog and a very clean house, and I would definitely rebook with them in the future!”

About: Owner of a Siberian husky for over a decade. Have trained her since she was a puppy. She is now a senior and requires minimal walks compared to when she was young. She gets along with cats really well and is around farm animals frequently. Working 40 hours a week while managing pet care is essential, I am able to work around my schedule as fit for the animal's needs. Please inform me if any needs are requested to make sure everything, like fresh water, is taken care of. I offer care at the clients home, which I have experience in. I am usually in the same room as my pets, so I will often be in the same area with your pet while they are under supervision. Please inform me at least a day in advance for booking.
About: I've had experience with lots of animals, from Puppies to Snakes to Cows. I've helped birth Dogs, Lambs, Cows, Pigs, Goats, and much more. I'm almost always available to! (Same day bookings are alright!)💞 I've learned first aid when it comes to a good majority of animals that can be kept as pets, and I can also follow any care plan that is given to me, down to a T. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope I can give snuggles to your fur babies and be your next sitter!❤️ I'm currently not working and have the full day to go off whatever schedule you have created for your fur baby. I am usually able to change my schedule howevers needed to accommodate you! I have no yard, but I happily walk my dogs 4 times a day, sometimes 6 depending on their needs or your dog's needs. I am a sober individual that can pay attention and care for your family member the whole time with no problem. Thank you!
About: I have a high drive working German Shepherds, and husky. I have always been full of energy and taking care of crackhead dogs give me a lot of patience, so puppies and active dogs are my favorite and specialty! And I've been bitten and scratched enough times, it almost tickles... Almost During hot months my dogs are given all attention in the evening/at night and during cold months my dogs are given all attention in the afternoon so there is a period of time where I can help take care of yours outside of pet care and work! I will make sure to follow strict instructions and be very attentive and watchful of your pup! My own dogs schedule consist of playing, walking, training, cuddling, feeding and potty every 4-6 hours! And I would love to treat your pet with the same amount of needs whenever you feel you can't! No dog left behind!
“Ashley is excellent with our fur (and plant) babies! We return to a clean house and well cared-for kitties and pups. Ashley also went above and beyond when we missed our connection and had to stay overnight on our journey home. We will definitely book with Ashley again!”

About: I’ve been around animals my whole life, growing up with both cats and dogs of all personalities, from easygoing labs to high energy, sometimes anxious heelers. That taught me early on how to read animal behavior, stay patient, and build trust with pets at their own pace! In college, I started out studying pre vet before following my passion into wildlife biology, and I’ll be starting grad school this fall studying ecology and evolution with a focus on wildlife. I also spent a summer working with a nonprofit dog rescue in Houston, Texas, helping save dogs from the streets and from kill shelters. It was hands on and sometimes challenging, but really rewarding. I helped with medications, cared for dogs with all kinds of temperaments, and made sure each one felt safe and cared for. I truly believe every animal is special and deserves patience, understanding, and a little extra love. I’ve always found it easy to connect with animals, and I love seeing even shy or anxious pets start to relax and show their personality. Right now I’m saving up for grad school, and honestly I can’t think of a better way to spend my time than being around animals. Whether it’s walks, playtime, or just keeping your pet company, I’ll treat them like my own! I currently have Wednesday's and Thursday's off. I am free all day to take your pups on a mid day walk or keep them company while you are out of town! The rest of my week I work from 9:00-6:00 so my availability is more limited. I live on acreage in the Veneta area. Our property is mostly fenced and includes an orchard, a creek, and plenty of space for play and adventure! I have one pup of my own who absolutely loves other dogs. He’s a medium-sized herding dog who would be thrilled to show a new friend around the property. When caring for pets in a client’s home, I always strive to be a respectful and gracious guest. I’m a very tidy, thoughtful person and take great care to leave your home exactly as you left it, if not better! I believe it’s incredibly valuable for animals to remain in an environment where they feel safe and comfortable. I have a lot of experience with anxious animals and believe that a calm, warm demeanor, along with a consistent routine, is key to making sure your pet feels happy, secure, and well cared for.
About: I have been taking care of animals all my life, and pet-sitting professionally for over 10 years now. I am particularly experienced and confident in caring for senior animals, pets needing medication, and those who are particularly shy or need that extra emotional consideration. You'll notice me take the extra time to get to know your pet and the nuances of their personality and needs. I offer animals the slowness and presence needed for deep listening and attunement: two qualities that help build trust. I am highly organized, detail-oriented, and good at communication. I'm used to planning my schedule and time around the needs of the animals I'm caring for, and am always ready to apply my extensive knowledge for unexpected situations that may arise. Some of my recent clients include a rowdy pack of 5 dogs of various size and breed, a senior cat with hyperthyroidism who switches her food preferences daily, a blind and deaf senior dog who loves to play, and a farm sanctuary with over 20 animals, including pigs rescued from a neglect situation and feral cats being socialized for the first time. If your animal needs a bit more time and care to feel comfortable around someone new, takes medication or is navigating ongoing health conditions, or is at higher likelihood of needing veterinarian intervention while you're away, these are situations where I have both experience and confidence. For me, animal care isn't just about completing all the tasks that need to be done for the well-being of our animal family members. It's about creating a relationship of trust with the animals relying on me, as well as their human guardians. Entrusting your beloved pet to another person, as well as opening your home to them, is something you deserve to feel secure and confident in. And your pet deserves to feel truly cared for, understood, and prioritized while you're away. With my years of experience both personally and professionally, and my special skills for medical and emotional complexity, I know I can provide a pet-care experience where trust flows in all directions. Pet-care is my main job (and joy) which I orient the rest of my living schedule around. I have lots of flexibility to form my schedule around your animal's needs. My most commonly booked form of pet-sitting is overnight care in the pet's home. This can put the pets at ease and lets them maintain their usual routines. Having years of experience with overnight stays, I am diligent and thorough when it comes to keeping your home and animal family safe: I always lock all doors and windows when I am away, unless given different instruction. I am always aware of closing doors and gates behind me so no pets can escape. I also offer visits / drop-ins throughout the day, and am consistent and timely in these visits.
“Maggie is an excellent pet sitter who genuinely cares for animals! Our pets loved her and she made us feel comfortable by sending updates and pics while we were away. Maggie communicates well and with clarity. She is reliable and professional. It is a gift to be able to go away and know that your fur babies are in great hands. We will definitely call on Maggie again!”

“We are 100% pleased/satisfied with Megan’s care of Dude. He weighs 100 lbs and will jump on people and get mouthy when he meets some people. He eventually calms down, but depending upon the person it can take awhile. Megan quickly got him under control. She was loving and was able to get him follow her commands. She happily came to meet him before her stay with him and easily walked him. We were very comfortable with him in her care. In addition she is a wonderful human being who is actively involved in her community. I enjoyed meeting and talking with her.”

“Heather did an amazing job. My dog & cat where well looked after while I was gone for 9 days. Heather kept in touch with me, sent me pictures of my dog & cat texted me on how they are doing. I am very happy with Heather. I have no problems with using her again in the future.”

FAQs for House Sitting - Horton
Frequently asked questions about Rover
As of July 2026, there are 803 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Horton. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Horton walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Horton maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Horton choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Horton. On Rover:
- 94% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 99% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 97% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
