“Quick and thorough communication before and during her care of my dogs. One of my dogs is a senior dog with special medication requirements and she was wonderful about making sure he got what he needed.”

“Eliza was amazing with our dog Wells! He is very anxious and we have a lot of construction going on outside and she kept him calm and gave him lots of love and attention. She also took great care of our home. Thanks so much Eliza!”

“Traci was super responsive and a great sitter! We had to change our plans last minute and she was understanding and willing to work with us so that our pets could be as well taken care of as possible. She sent daily updates with pictures and video that put my mind at ease and showed us how happy our dog Ellie was with her.”
About: I’ve always been the first to offer help when it comes to my family and friends dogs, although I’ve never owned my own because of my living circumstances I’ve always been extremely passionate about dogs and their behavior and I know quite a bit about them, including details about some breeds, mainly medium to large ones. Animals are a huge part of my life and I strive to treat every and anyone’s pets like they’re my own. I am a bus driver now and work MTWTF, off on the weekends. I do split shifts 6-9am and 2-5am but times may vary. I am perfectly okay fitting in your needs where I can. I will do my best to give your dogs my absolute full efforts to make sure they are happy and content. I have a lot of energy, so playing with dogs is never a problem. I can take them outside as much as needed and can provide the upmost care.
“Ryleigh was great! Provided the amount of updates/photos we had discussed and let us know when she had for run out for a bit and when she would return. I can tell from photos our Golden loved her and she left the house as clean as we left it. Will be asking Ryleigh to watch our guy again 🐶”

“Ayalene was great! I have a high energy Australian shepherd that has some separation anxiety and can be reactive on leash. She handled everything with ease and followed all my instructions! My dog and cats were super happy, the house was clean when returning, and it felt great knowing my pets and house were safe! Thank you Ayalene for all your help! I would absolutely recommend her and book her again”

“We are very happy with house and pet sitting done by Hanna. She kept us well informed and helped make it easy to enjoy our time away from home knowing our home and pet were well cared for.”

About: I grew up with a lot of animals, I took good care of family dogs and neighbors dogs, I also took care of friends dogs. Text me well in advance, and I’ll place it on my calendar, I am free Friday-Tuesday, text me if needed for Wednesdays or Thursdays anytime. If I am given instructions on Medications and/or bath Care, I will do as instructed, I follow very well with care, I care for other’s Animals as I care for mine
“Sue did an amazing job with our 3 dogs and 2 cats. Even our skittish cat spent the whole weekend snuggled with her. Will definitely use again.”

“Haley did a great job taking care of our very nervous pup and our home! She is reliable and communicates well. Our 9 year old rescue was very anxious meeting a new person, but Haley was able to win him over. I highly recommend her as a responsible, kind and caring person to take care of your pets when you are away!”

About: My family has had many kinds of pets since I was a kid. We often took in injured animals and nursed them back to health. We got a Chihuahua when I was 15, I'm now 34cand she passed away four years ago. Her name was Teka and she was my baby. We had her for 15 years. I own my own business so I can work literally whenever I want. My schedule is completely malleable. I can easily shape my work schedule around anything. Also please note if you hire me for house sitting, my beloved will go with me, she is exceptionally gifted with animals. I can take your dog out literally any time, and for any length of time. I can easily crate your dog if needed. I also have plenty of cuddles.
“Five stars doesn’t feel like enough for Mackenzie! We couldn’t have asked for a better person to take care of our dogs while we were away. We have a full house with four dogs, each with their own personalities, quirks, routines, and needs, and she picked up on who they were SO quickly. She spent tons of time actually engaging with them—playing outside, throwing their balls, and giving them plenty of attention and affection. We came home to four very happy, very well-cared-for, and appropriately worn-out dogs, which is about the best review they could give. 😂 Her communication was also fantastic. She sent us tons of pictures and videos throughout our trip, and it was incredibly reassuring to be able to see that everyone was happy and comfortable. I especially loved how quickly she started noticing and sharing the little things that make each of our dogs them. We felt completely at ease having Mackenzie in our home and caring for our crew, and we would absolutely trust her with them again. We’re so grateful we found her and would recommend her without hesitation!”

About: I first joined Rover just for a couple of months a few years back and cared for a couple of lovely pets before stepping off the platform as life got busy soon after. I am excited to rejoin to meet new furry friends and care for them. Animals have been my closest friends and family my whole life, and I can hardly imagine it any other way. Caring for fellow animals while their beloved humans are away is humbling, and I'd be honoured to do my best to hold space for them through the temporary separation they experience while their owners are away. I have worked alongside rescue groups and have been invited by professional dog trainers to use my animal communication gifts to help them understand difficult dogs. Over time, it naturally became my role to step in and care for those labelled "unadoptable" due to unique behavioural challenges who needed more special healing, deep understanding, and care. Facilitating better communication and understanding between animals and people has always been a deeply rewarding privilege that I humbly love with all my heart🙏 I have extensive experience caring for puppies, kittens, sweet seniors, and pets with special needs or aggression labels. I also have a gentle intuition for senior pets and kitties who express their needs in quieter, more subtle ways, as well as those who are extra sensitive. I currently travel full-time in my home on wheels with my kitty family, which gives me perfect flexibility. I am available for short and long-term house sitting, as well as occasional drop-in visits and walks in the area I am. ( Currently in coastal areas in Oregon ) I work remotely from my laptop on a flexible schedule, so I'm able to give your pets my full attention and keep them good company nearly the entire time while they nap(unless they prefer their own space!) I step out briefly to check on my own kitty family in our van home parked outside about 3-4 times a day (between 15-45 minutes each time). And I am always happy to walk through what my schedule looks like before you book. 📍I am open to traveling a bit further outside of Rover's standard radius for the right sit if requested far enough in advance🚐 I believe that "stress is a silent killer" is not just for humans, but for animals, too. I do my very best to keep their environment as peaceful and low-stress as possible so they can feel completely safe and genuinely rest (and hopefully have fun) when they are away from their precious human(s). 🙏 I am also more than happy to take and send as many photos and videos as the parents would like, so they can stay connected and have complete peace of mind while they're apart.
About: I’ve taken care of my neighbors cats and dogs since I was 11 years old. I make sure to take in account every pets individual needs and make sure to care for them as if they are my own! I am currently working part-time so I have plenty of time to care for your pets. I am available week days and weekends. I can work mornings, afternoons, and evenings. I only provide drop in visits. I do not let pets stay in my own home. However, I will make sure all doors are closed and toys and food are cleaned up after sitting in your home. This will ensure a clean and safe environment for your pet
“Melanie was a fantastic watcher and companion to our pug and three cats! It's always stressful to travel and leave our pets behind and Melanie made us feel immediately at ease with her thoughtful attention to detail. Upon return home from our trip, our animals were in great spirits and showed signs of being very content and happy -- thank you, Melanie!!”
“We continue to use Malissa every time we travel. Whether it’s a weekend or 14 days. She leaves our home just as we left it and most importantly our animals are loved and well cared for.”

Traci kept regular updates and was able to take care of the medicine we add to our dog rummies food. She gradually integrated our cattle dog into her own dogs little pack and by the time we came back the dogs were all getting along. Traci also let us know about road closures after crazy weather on our flight back and was ok with taking Rummie one more night so we could stay at hotel that night. Traci also came through in a bind when our other Rover sitter bailed last minute. Highly recommended and will book her again for sure.

Frequently asked questions about Rover
As of September 2026, there are 3,869 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Hayward. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Hayward walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Hayward maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Hayward choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Hayward. On Rover:
- 96% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 97% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 95% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
