“Dave and Phyllis are very attentive and caring. I know my baby is getting babied when he is with them, and they are flexible and accommodating. They alerted me that my dog’s allergies had begun to merit medical attention when I came to pick him up.”

“Melissa was amazing! She boarded my dogs for a few days, and the entire process was easy, straightforward, and stress-free from start to finish. She was kind, friendly, and clearly cared about making sure my dogs were comfortable and well taken care of. It gave me peace of mind knowing they were in good hands while I was away. I would definitely recommend Melissa to anyone looking for a reliable and caring dog sitter, and I wouldn’t hesitate to book with her again!”

“Madeline was an answer to our prayers! We never had anyone take care of our dog besides us for years since Lani has gotten older and has more daily challenges. I felt very comfortable having Lani in her care. She gave daily updates and pics too that I could share with my kids while we were away. I highly recommend her! Great experience with my first time using Rover.”

“Susan was wonderful and very communicative! She welcomed my pup with open arms and it was a last minute booking. Susan was very flexible and made me feel comfortable leaving my pup with her. I am so grateful and will be booking again!!”

It truly warms my heart knowing that my boy is so comfortable and well-cared for with Bridget. I am so grateful to have found someone I can trust completely with my boy . Highly recommend!”

“Janet and Ken were amazing. When we arrived early to drop our Tillie off for a few days, she ran right in and was so happy to see Ken. When I sent messages inquiring about Tillie while out of town, Janet was sure to ease my mind that our girl was in good hands. Thanks Janet and Ken! See you in a couple weeks.”

“Aivy was amazing! I can’t say enough positive things. She took the best care of Herbie to the point I didn’t think he was going to want to come home. She sent tons of pictures and loved on him like he was her own.”

“Devon and Allie were absolutely amazing! It was our first time boarding our dog, and they sure made us feel comfortable leaving our dog to the fullest degree! They went above and beyond in their caretaking and treated our dog as if it was their own :) We could not have asked for a better situation and we are blessed with how amazing they are! We will for sure be return clients! Thanks again so much!”

“Allison was amazing! Friendly, responsive, provided regular updates, and Lua came back to us relaxed, happy, and clearly very well cared-for. We couldn't have asked for better, and would definitely hire Allison again.”

“If you are in need of a trusting person to watch and care for your dogs, you should 100% book Makeba. I was traveling 4 hours to a baby shower and my original dog sitter (family friend) had to cancel last minute. I was afraid I would have to cancel my plans because I didn’t know anyone else. I had searched the internet and found Rover. To say I was hesitant would be an understatement. I had never left my 5 month old puppy Nani with any non family person before let alone for an extended period of time. I spent a long time searching local sitters and was still not feeling right. However when I saw Makeba’s page something clicked. I really doubted that she would respond that late let alone be available such short notice. To my surprise and delight she responded in minutes confirming that she would be available and excited to host and care for Nani while I was at the baby shower, reassuring me that she too understands the uneasy feeling of leaving your fur baby with stranger. Not only did she save my day by being available, I was blown away by her professionalism and animal love and care throughout our entire interaction. She was very communicative before we met asking questions helped to create the perfect environment for Nani. When I arrived to drop Nani off she wanted to not only make sure Nani was happy and settled but also me. I ended up staying for over 45 minutes not because I was not comfortable leaving Nani there but just loved the environment that Makeba made. Nani also got to interact with other doggies and Makeba spent time introducing them and making sure everyone clicked. She showed me all the amenities and a schedule she had in mind for Nani and consistently asked about Nani’s needs and schedule at home. I was nervous about Nani as she had been a little bit coddled and has not spent too much time alone and has a little separation anxiety, but Makeba reassured me letting me know that she is almost always home and does not like to leave the dogs alone unless absolutely necessary for a very short period of time. I had brought some of Nani’s things (pee pads, toys, food, treats, etc.) but Makeba was already fully stocked and ready. Nani is still working on potty training and got a little excited and had a few accidents in the time i was there to drop her off and Makeba was so sweet about it making me feel so at ease and ensured me to not worry about it. Eventually I had to scoot to my baby shower but felt so at ease especially since Makeba requested to do a test run of me leaving to see how Nani would react that way she would be better equipped to sooth her when I left. Like I said before , beyond professional and caring for Nani. While I was away Makeba sent me tons of texts and videos updating me on Nani. She even taught her a new trick in the matter of minutes! Makeba was so attentive, she had even called to let me know that Nani did have a little irritation on her stomach, which I was aware of as she has developed allergies but was appreciative of the care and attention she gave Nani. When I picked up Nani, she was excited to see me but definitely sad to leave Makeba. I was so worried that Nani would be a handful for Makeba being that she is a teething puppy but am so happy that I have found a trusted sitter that I plan to use continuously going forward. So, if you are still reading this review and you are a nervous first time Rover user searching for a sitter for your furry friend, please look no further as there is no one else that you will find that will give the same attention and care to your animal than Makeba.”

“Brineydi was an absolutely amazing sitter for our twin cavapoos during the Christmas holiday, going above & beyond to make sure we knew they had a great time and were comfortable while we were away. It’s so relieving to know they have such a great place to go when we are away and will definitely be bringing them bank. From the bottom of our hearts, thanks!”

“Anjaliben was a great host for our fur baby. We dropped off Our pup and her and her son took good care of Buddy. She fed him and played with him and sent pictures of her dogs playing with ours. We will definitely be calling on Anjaliben to watch our pup again.”

“Maryori was the perfect choice for our fur baby Bentley. She was very warm and welcoming, and she made our boy feel right at home. He spent his birthday with her and she went out of her way to buy him a few gifts and treats which we appreciated very much! I will definitely book her again.”

“Douglas did a fantastic job taking care of Maya for me! He was very thorough in making sure that he had all the information he needed to accommodate Maya. My dog is epileptic and he ensured that he had the medicine, correct directions, and contacts for local veterinarians and friends of Maya in case something were to occur. Before leaving Maya there for a week, I visited him and his dog Tonka to see how comfortable Maya would be in his home. Although at first there was a lot of barking and Maya being aggressive, once inside, Maya calmed down. By the middle of the trip, Douglas let me know that they became friends which was great because I've been meaning to get Maya accustomed to being around other dogs. Douglas was a great dog sitter and I highly recommend him to anyone else! He provides daily updates too making my trip even better knowing that my best friend is being taken cared of really well. Thanks Douglas!”

“Tim is great! Caring, attentive, and all-around an awesome human being. Was communicative and flexible. Would definitely board any dog with him again in a heartbeat.”

“Jacob was so great, very caring and informative. He kept me updated on Gia and she had so much fun her whole time there. Can’t recommend him enough for your fur baby”

“Emma and Patrick did a wonderful job taking care of my pup! They are very responsible, communicative and sent great updates. My dog seemed to have a lot of fun on her stay-cation.”

“Julie & Peter are such a lovely couple! So happy we found such centrally located sitters. They were so wonderful looking after my high-energy dog for a long weekend. Julie was communicative every day, sending photos at a different park. Their house with outdoor space was also a big plus!”

We had a great experience with Laura! She was reliable, attentive, and took wonderful care of Bailey while we were away. We really appreciated the regular updates and knowing that Bailey was happy, comfortable, and well cared for. It gave us great peace of mind while we were gone. We would absolutely use Laura again and highly recommend her!
My two dogs had a great time with Stacey. I was nervous because my one dog barks a lot on leash and hasn’t been for a doggy sleepover in 3 years- Stacey relieved my anxiety. I got pictures and updates. I got stuck in traffic and had changed both my drop off time and pick up time and Stacey was super accommodating. Highly recommend!

Melissa was amazing! She boarded my dogs for a few days, and the entire process was easy, straightforward, and stress-free from start to finish. She was kind, friendly, and clearly cared about making sure my dogs were comfortable and well taken care of. It gave me peace of mind knowing they were in good hands while I was away. I would definitely recommend Melissa to anyone looking for a reliable and caring dog sitter, and I wouldn’t hesitate to book with her again!

David and Phyllis were wonderful in accommodating our unique situation and went above and beyond to make sure Cassie felt comfortable in their home. Communication was excellent—not only with us but also with our friend who had been caring for Cassie during the month. They kept us well informed and made sure we received updates on how Cassie was doing, which gave us great peace of mind. We truly appreciated their kindness, flexibility, and the loving care they gave Cassie.

Our dogs had an amazing time at Danielle’s place! She sent frequent updates so I felt totally confident they were in great hands. Both pups felt so comfortable with her — a testament to her patience and kindness as a home away from home!!! I would absolutely LOVE to book with her again!!

Dana was Odin’s first time staying overnight somewhere that wasn’t home; and he LOVED it. He was obviously well cared for and tended to while we were gone. Dana sent an abundance of pictures and videos of him to keep us updated. Dana’s family, house and yard is well suited for dogs of all ages and sizes.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in NJ ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies. Cats may be required to have Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis and Rabies up to date.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a board-certified veterinarian or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means our team will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
