“Liz was BEYOND wonderful with our 8 month old puppy Ralph, and our cat Guinness. She stayed the evening with the pets and cared for our home as if it were her own. We haven’t been away from our puppy since we got him (6 months ago), and decided to give Rover a try. We were certainly hesitant at first, allowing a “stranger” into our home (although Liz doesn’t feel like one anymore). We scheduled a meet and greet with Liz for her to meet the pup and for us to meet her. Within 5 min we were sold. Liz is caring, responsible, knowledgeable, clean, and very legit. We watched her interact with Ralph and we were able to see how she cared for him during the meet and greet. Ralph even fell asleep in her arms while we all stood around chatting (Ralph doesn’t even fall asleep in OUR arms!!). Not only does Liz put your pets first, she also presents herself in a way that makes you feel confident your animals and home will be taken care of. It’s not at all like leaving your pets and home with “the neighbours teenage kid who needs some extra cash”. This is a business for Liz and she takes it very seriously. Liz provided text and photo updates while we were away, and we could tell coming home that the pets felt comfortable and weren’t at all “off”. Liz even shoveled our driveway and again did little things as if it were her own home and possessions. I cannot recommend Liz enough and we now have someone we trust to either walk Ralph, sit with him for an hour or two, or even stay overnight. This will certainly be an ongoing relationship with Liz. All I can say is that if you’re hesitant, I understand, I was too. Reach out to Liz for a meet and greet and go from there. The hesitation will be gone in moments.”

“Amanda took amazing care of our pups and our home. I had such great peace of mind that my dogs were in good hands, and I never had to worry about them once while I was away. Amanda took excellent care of our home as well, and I think left it cleaner than when we left!”

“Linnea took wonderful care of my fur babies! They were all happy, healthy, and clearly well cared for when I arrived home. The dogs were walked twice and had no issues at all. It was clear they enjoyed their time with her. Thank you, Linnea, for taking such great care of them! 🐾💕”

“Samantha took excellent care of our three cats and our home while she was house-sitting for us. She sent tons of pictures and videos, which we loved as it helped us feel confident in their wellbeing. She understood the cats different play styles and care needs and was attentive to all of them. Thank you Samantha!”

“Alex has done a good job of making our cat feel comfortable while we are away. Alex is also very respectful of our space and makes sure everything is clean before leaving. Thank you!!”

“Emma was great with Poppy! Came home to a happy and healthy gal and a well taken care of home. Emma was very responsive to messages and sent pics to share how Poppy was doing. Would recommend!”

“Thank you so much for looking after Scarlett and our house for us! Thank you also for the photos and for being so responsive while we were away. Looking forward to booking you again!”

“Had an urgent need to find a backup dog sitter and tried Rover and found Dave! What a great experience! Will continue to use him going forward. Dogs were extremely well cared for while I was away, and I was very comfortable having him in my home!”

“Torgier is a gentleman and a really sweet person! He got along extremely well with both my babies - a cat and a dog - and I can just tell that they were very well attended to when I got back. I have a Samoyed who naturally has a lot of fur so it's hard to keep her clean. But I got her back in exactly the state I left her ❤️ Torgier sent several updates and pictures through the day, followed every instruction, double checked where he had any doubts, even vacuumed my place before he left - honestly I don't know what more I could ask for. I'll definitely be booking him again to sit my babies!”

About: I am home all day to Love and Protect your pet. My home is quiet and my arms are open for pups, seniors, those in-between & even your quirky rescue. Animals aren’t a side hobby for me; they’ve been the central thread of my life. I grew up caring for and training horses and dogs, which taught me to read animal body language before I could even read books. Raising puppies is my true love—they fill my heart and soul. Over the years, I have loved and cared for five of my own dogs from their very first puppy steps all the way to their final resting places—including my Shepherd (Max), my Rottweiler (Misty), my Golden/Rottie mix (Maisy), and my Golden Retriever (Lily). From years of agility training to countless puppy classes at McCann’s, I’ve poured my life into understanding and bonding with dogs. While I am on Rover to offer boarding, housesitting, and drop-in care—not formal training services—my deep background means your pet is in exceptionally skilled, safe hands. I have been a puppy raiser for National Service Dogs, successfully raising a pup who graduated to assist a first responder with PTSD. I also have a deep comfort level with rescues and senior dogs—whether it's connecting and gaining the trust of a reactive rescue Pitbull/Rottweiler mix for five months, or catering to the slow, gentle pace of a sweet 15-year-old Dachshund like Diesel. Whether you have a brand-new puppy who needs consistent crate training and patience, an elder statesdog who needs extra care, or a rescue who requires an experienced handler who truly understands their world, I offer a level of intuition, safety, and genuine love that goes far beyond standard pet sitting. I also provide drop-in care for cats who prefer staying in their own kingdom. You can travel knowing your pet is being cherished as one of my own. PS. Dogs are welcome on the furniture and I may encourage them to hop up on the bed Because I m home full-time, your pet becomes the primary focus. They won't be left alone for long stretches or stuck in a crate while someone works a 9-to-5. My home is a quiet, predictable environment where your puppy can get the frequent potty breaks they need, or your senior dog can get the peace, quiet, and cuddles they deserve. Whether they are staying with me or I am visiting them, they get my undivided attention, endless affection, and a seamless continuation of their normal daily routine. My home will be an extension of yours - whatever rules your pets have - the use of crates, or not; on or off furniture, specific feeding or walk times. I am here to support. My yard is not fenced, which means more time together outside (on leash).
“Paige took care of my dog and cats like they were her own and I didn’t worry at all while I was away. She sent me pictures of them all snuggling together on the couch which made me feel even better about my choice. I would highly recommend Paige to take care of your animals!”

“Taylore was great. Very laid back but also took amazing care of Juniper while I was away for the weekend. My dog is very large and has a mind of her own and Taylore took on the challenge with no issues at all.”
“We were extremely pleased with Taryn’s service. She was friendly and professional. She communicated with us and sent pictures throughout her stay. Our cats were well taken care of by Taryn.”

“Hugo was available on short notice to watch Cupcake over the weekend and made time before hand to come do a meet and greet. His calm and kind nature came across right away and I felt comfortable leaving her in his hands. Hugo was fantastic with communication, he sent me updates and pictures. Cupcake had a blast with Hugo and I wouldn't hesitate to ask him back!!”

About: I had a family dog that I helped take care of throughout my whole childhood, and my wife and I now have two kittens of our own! I have learned a lot about pet health, feeding and medicine administration from my wife as she is in veterinary school and works at a veterinary clinic. We have had a rover account through her name for the past couple of years so I have a large amount of experience with all types of pets, cat or dog, big or small. I am a grade 7/8 teacher in the Waterloo Region, so I have a lot of time during the summers that I am hoping to fill up with caring for pets. I also plan to continue doing this as a side gig while I continue my teaching career. I have experience playing with my two kittens in my apartment and I love it! I can play with your dogs or cats inside or outside- however they prefer. I have lots of experience with dog walking as well.
About: FIRST TIME BOOKING WITH ROVER? RECEIVE $20 OFF WITH MY CODE: KIRAO92445 I love being around animals. I have had many cats all my life and now I have a Husky named Aurora who is an absolute joy to care for . I have a 3 story townhouse with lots of space for playing and a fenced in yard with space to run and have unlimited potty breaks! Aurora loves other dogs and is not aggressive at all(she's not spayed). I am available around the clock to keep an eye on your furbabies and/or have a vehicle to visit your home for walks and anything else your pet needs. My cats keep to themselves but do not appreciate being chased, I can arrange to keep them in a separate room if need be. I can't wait to hear about all your little cuties and arrange for a time to meet you and them! I am a hairstylist working from home, I work part time as a beauty advisor and hangout with pets with the rest of my free time :) Because I have a fenced yard I can offer many potty breaks if needed and Aurora is available all day to play and tire your pup out! If your pup needs a lot of walks, I can also provide that no problem whatsoever.
“Lynn did an amazing job taking care of my dog and 2 cats! They were so well taken care of while I was away for the weekend, and I could see that through all of the pictures she sent during her time with my fur babies! I will definitely be booking Lynn again, she was amazing with all of my pets, and I knew they were in very good hands with her!”

“Absolutely thrilled with the care Taylor provided for our dog while we were away! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Taylor was excellent from start to finish—professional, reliable, personable, and incredibly kind. She stayed in our home for the week and made sure our pup was not only well taken care of, but also very loved and comfortable in our absence. Her communication was top-notch—we received wonderful and thoughtful updates, photos, and check-ins that gave us total peace of mind. Taylor asks all the right questions, even ones you never thought of, to ensure all the bases are covered. She also went above and beyond on her own accord to find solutions in order to make the timing work. I had zero reservations about having her in our home, and when we returned, I think our home was even cleaner than when we left! It’s clear Taylor genuinely cares about the animals she looks after (and the families she helps!) and we wouldn’t hesitate to have her again or recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy, professional and compassionate pet sitter. She really is stellar. Thank you, Taylor!”

Linnea looked after our house and two active dogs for 10 days and did a great job. She walked and ran with both dogs (which is not easy), bathed them when needed, and gave them lots of care and attention. She also fed our fish and watered our plants. We were very pleased and would definitely use her again!

Carina was great with our dogs. She took them on a number of walks (3 in the single day she had them). She also went above and beyond and brushed one of our dogs which was something we didn’t ask for or have any expectations of her. Would definitely recommend and use Carina again!

Would leave 10 stars if we could. Jean went above & beyond from a smooth meet & greet through our arrival home to a spotless space and a happy pooch. She took our beagle on multiple walks, sent frequent updates/photos, and did everything to care for her perfectly. She also left us the sweetest note detailing the experience and while we were nervous trying this service for the first time, Jean has fully set us at ease and will be our first call next time our fur baby needs company!

So great to have Lizzy back again to care for our house and 2 kitties. 🏠🐈🐈⬛️ She is super-organized and very attentive to our fur-babies, and keeps us updated with detailed written and pictorial reports. 📸 🤩 We even planned our mini-getaway around her availability. 📅 Thanks again Lizzy! ❤️

Torgier is a gentleman and a really sweet person! He got along extremely well with both my babies - a cat and a dog - and I can just tell that they were very well attended to when I got back. I have a Samoyed who naturally has a lot of fur so it's hard to keep her clean. I'll definitely be booking him again to sit my babies!

Micki was awesome - a last-minute booking, splitting time between our house and hers, helping us out with a last-minute remote shenanigans, and being so understanding of our pups' peculiarities. A wonderful, flexible dog-sitter! I appreciated her photos and fast communication especially.

So thankful for Behnaz watching my dog in my home while I was away. She provided daily updates, photos and always responsive. This was the first time leaving my dog, and Behnaz ensured my dog kept her routine and provided lots of attention, activity and care. Would absolutely recommend Behnaz.

I booked Piper to stay at our home with our pets while my husband and I were away on vacation. She did a wonderful job, I have never had peace of mind like I did this time. I could tell that my pets were well cared for, I got daily pics and updates. Our husky is a handful and she was on her best behavior while we were away. I would highly recommend Piper for overnight stays or any type of person care you may need!!! She's kind and friendly and I had worries leaving her in charge of my home and pets. We will definitely book with her again!!!

Our fur babies were loved and very happy with Sarah! Even our skittish and slow to warm up pups were snuggling and giving endless kisses while we were gone. Our home was left immaculate and when our flight home was delayed Sarah made sure they were good until we landed. Highly recommend her services for home stays with multiple dogs including nervous/reactive pups.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Waterloo maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Waterloo walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Waterloo choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.
If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:
- 78% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 100% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
