Ever wonder, “does my dog love me?” From belly scratches, to treats, to finding them the perfect sitter, we do a lot to show our dogs how much we care. But how do we know they feel the same? Turns out there are some clear signs you can look for.
Your pet can’t come home with a bouquet of roses, but he might bring you his favorite KONG. And that’s a sign of deep affection. Yep—slobber and all.
Looking for more insight into your dog’s thoughts and feelings? Start with Dr. Stanley Coren’s indispensable How Dogs Think on dog psychology and Dr. Patricia McConnell’s For the Love of a Dog, all about dog emotions.
If your dog shows any of the following behaviors, signs point to his or her unwavering love for you.
He Goes Crazy When You Come Home
We’ve all seen this before. You walk in the front door and you are eagerly greeted by your dog, tail wagging with a toy in his mouth (and probably lots of jumping too!). This is love in its truest form.
Your dog is displaying his excitement to see you in any way he can. However, according to the Wall Street Journal Blog, if your dog seems to do this each time someone walks into the house, he may be a bit…promiscuous. So, this isn’t the strongest determining factor as to whether Fido thinks you’re “the one.”
Specific Facial Expressions
A dog’s love isn’t all about tail wagging. Instead, it’s about facial expressions. In a recent study in Japan, dogs were introduced to their parent, a stranger, a dog toy, and an item they disapproved of. When seeing their parent, the dogs immediately lifted their eyebrows (especially their left). When they saw a stranger there was significantly less facial movement, and it was movement of the right brow.
Similarly, when seeing someone they knew and were bonded to, the dogs shifted their left ear back. If it was an item they disliked, they shifted their right. According to the study, this suggests the dog is likely more reserved when meeting someone new, or seeing something they dislike.
She Really Looks at You
In a 60-Minutes segment on CBS, Anderson Cooper met with Brian Hare, a well-known dog expert, to discuss a dog’s love. According to this segment, when your dog looks you in the eye, he is “hugging you with his eyes.”
Why? Because when your dog looks at you, oxytocin is released, which is the same hormone that helps new mothers bond with their babies. This eye contact truly indicates your dog’s love for you.
We don’t recommend you have a staring contest for the first 10 minutes after you get home tonight. She will immediately sense something is different, and will likely look away. Instead, take time to try to maintain eye contact throughout the day and see how your dog responds.
He Yawns With You
We’ve all heard that yawning is contagious, and may have experienced this when a friend yawns during conversation. (Did you just yawn? Even reading about yawning can make you yawn!). But did you know that dogs experience the same sensation?
According to Live Science, a recent study shows that yawning indicates empathy in us. In other words, because humans are empathetic, they sense the yawn in their peer. It’s nearly impossible to measure a dog’s empathy, but it’s likely that yawning symbolizes a bond to their human.
In this study, dogs were more likely to yawn when their owners yawned, as opposed to a stranger. Hard to believe? You can test it out at home. Just don’t be discouraged if your dog doesn’t yawn back immediately—he may not recognize the yawn, and instead wonder why you’re showing him your grin.
It’s True Love
There are plenty of “scientific” ways to confirm your dog loves you, but of course, these reactions vary from dog to dog.
The truest way to know if your dog loves you? Trust your gut. Whether he perks his ears when he hears your voice, looks meek when you leave but jumps uncontrollably when you get home, or cuddles up next to you any chance he can, we’re pretty sure his heart is 100% yours.

My dog actually smiles, I can see his smile when I look on the side of his face, he’s a boxer, and you know how they look.
My dog gets happy when I massage his neck.
My dog comes running at me — big ole smile on his face — and looks like he’s going to eat me. I learned from the day I brought him home from the shelter that this is not a bad thing — but I had to have that leap of faith and just let him do it. He’s an American Bulldog/Staffordshire Bullterrier mix, and he’s the most affectionate dog I’ve ever had …
That must be a trait of the American Bulldog as far as showing affection toward their owner because my American Bulldog is the most cuddly dog I’ve ever known. He isn’t happy unless he sleeps snuggled right up to me and he even puts his arm around me when we sleep. When I am sitting in the chair next to my bed watching TV he always paws my hand to make me come lay on the bed with him because he hates being alone. I know that he loves me because it’s impossible to NOT KNOW, he is 105 lbs and every inch of him is a wiggling happy mass of dog awesomeness.
I, too, had a Staffordshire Terrier, and she was the most affectionate and “human” dog I ever had! She always slept on top of my foot, and whenever I wasn’t feeling well, she could sense it and would go downstairs to the kitchen, grab a can of soup in her mouth from the pantry (I don’t know how she could distinguish soup, but that’s what she always picked) and bring it back upstairs and plop the can on the bed beside me! I really could feel her love for me constantly.
Lucky all my dog ever does for me when im sick is ignore me.
Randy, this is just adorable! When my Black Lab, who I found on the street, puts himself to bed, he calls to me to go to my room, too. He figures if he’s going to bed, his brother (a rescued 3-legged Bishon) and I need to go to bed, too. I love my guys!
My dog is a rescue dog from the pound. She is part pitbull and something with bib ears that stand straight up when she feels safe. Was definitely abused . She knows when it is almost 11pm . She lays her head on my husband’s leg ,ctelling him it is time to go out then she wants to go to bed in our room with him. Of course she sleeps with us!
I can totally relate to you as I have an 8 year old English Bulldog, that was rescued from a puppy mill. She is the most loving dog and you are right, they are the most snuggly dog, I ever had. I started to laugh when you said your dog puts their arms around you, when you are sleeping, my dog does that too. I guess we both share these wonderful big creatures, as my little girl is 67 pounds, and wears a 3x sweater. Thank you for making my day with your posting….
I have 2 american Bulldogs. The male is a total mush pot. Every night after they go to bed he sneaks back into the living room and sits on my feet right in front of my chair and leans hard on my legs. He then presents his right paw for me to hold for a couple minutes, then gives me a poochie kiss and trots off to his bed. He does this every night. Hubby says if I’m gone for a weekend somewhere that he comes in and sits in front of my chair and puts his head down in the seat for a few minutes then goes to his bed. The female was a rescue and she was 3 years old when I got her, she had had 3 families before us, 2 of them not so good. But she comes in before the male and pushes her nose under my arm on the arm of the chair, and I scratch her neck and give her a hug and she seems satisfied with that, then trots off to bed. I really don’t know who is more in love with whom, me or the dogs. But it makes for a happy household when everyone is in accord.and NO you cannot beat the bully breeds for their ability to love their humans.
There is just something special about the bully breed. I’ve had two American Bulldogs and both were the big on cuddling. They are huge and lovable! My last one, George, was also very affectionate with my 4 year old. We miss him so!
I have a Staffordshire Terrier I got from a shelter. She was 5 years old. When I come home from work she will run up to me and sit right in front of me (because I taught her not to jump) and stair up at me with her eyes as big as they can get waiting for me to pet her. And when I go to bed and I am sad she will jump up on the bed and lay down, get as close to me as possible and lay her head on my pillow. She won’t stay long, just long enough to just like say I’m here for you mom, then jump down and lays right by the bed.
Yeah my dog smiles also. SO CUTE!
Every night when i would go to bed, my dog would start licking my arms , hands, neck, ears. When i pet him . I think it was his way of grooming me.
Unless he’s tasting you. (Just kidding) that’s cute.
My dog brings me “our” favorite toy we play with together and just gives it to me and then cuddles. She also kisses my tears away when I’ve cried.
We have a boxer. And when we get home she literally wiggles her entire body and smiles! Then leans her whole body on us while we pet her! She loves us as much as we lover her!!!
My boxer does that too!
Not only does my Baby smile at me, he calls me Mama (at least that is the moise he makes). He is a Rottenweiler, who wags his whole body.
This is the most cutest thing that I ever saw a dog do.
Just about a month ago, my German Shepherd who is now
three years old. My husband usually leaves doggy bones down
next to his dish in the morning with his breakfast. Shadow does
not eat them until evening (don’t know why) he waits so long to
eat them. What he started to do was bring one over to my husband
and left it on his lap, as if so say I am sharing my cookies with you.
Then just last week he did the same to me, while I was watching TV.
What does this mean?
My 2 year old Labrador does the same . When they bring their toy/ bone to you , it’s their way of telling you to “come , let’s play”. My dog usually wants me to hold one end of the bone while he chews the other . This is a good sign indicating your dog is not possessive of his toys and you should encourage this behavior by playing with him. Hope this helps
I agree…i have two dobermans ( female, age 8 and male, age 7 and a Brussels Griffon age 4) and when they bring stuff to me it means something like “lets play and make a game of this doll or whatever. Dogs like to keep things moving and invent newcthings to do to keep from being bored. Put a little peanut butter on the bone…its different then and ill bet it wont last till evening! Play “hide the bone” with that peanut butter on it..Dogs love to search and get a reward! Stimulation is the key. Thats what all mine like to do and we make up stuff all the time to do outside. (find the squirrel..look for rabbits..look for lizzards…hide the bone with peanut butter in the yard and tell em to go find their snack..lol
I do this with my dogs. we play “go find it” and I put them in a back room and close the door while I hide a few treats around our living room. As soon as I’m done, I open the door and say “go find it” and they bolt into the living room sniffing everywhere. I love watching them play, it’s like an easter egg hunt :)
My dog and I used to play hide and seek with each other. I would guide her to my parents’ room and tell her to wait there. I would then go hide in another room. She waited until I called her and she would come running to find me. I usually hid where I could see her, but she could not immediately spot me. It was so cute to watch her scoping out the room searching for me. She was always so excited when she found me. Once she thought she saw me and threw her head back and started to run over excitedly, then she stopped short realizing it wasn’t me. I giggled and she promptly found me. She always seemed to enjoy our game.
Our two Chihuahua’s won’t eat their bones until my husband comes home from work. Now, the Puproni treats that I give them, they eat. He gives them the bones and then he leaves for work. When he gets home, he tells them, they may eat their bones and they will go over and eat them. If he is at home and gives them the raw hide bones, they will eat them. But, if he leaves the house, they leave them until he returns. The vet told me that the dogs associate those bones with his command and won’t eat them until he is around.
Store bought treats like pup-eroni or other Purina type snacks are loaded with chemicals and salt. Greenies are expensive, but better for your dog and his teeth. You can get the mini-sized Greenies or larger ones and just chop them into smaller pieces. Amazon is a good resource, but shop around. I got mine through some diabetics association group, of all things.
Dogs will do anything for a Greenie. I’m not saying Greenies are completely healthy, but I know from the ingredients that they’re better for your dog than cheaper treats.
Amazon does business with and promotes products that are animal tested. Therefore, I will do no business with Amazon until their record of animal friendly products is proven.
Until everyone stops supporting businesses that do not consider the well being of animals the chain of animal abuse will never be broken. If you do business with Amazon it is on your conscience.
Amazon fights unionizing efforts by its employees brutally. It seems they don’t treat human beings very well either.
@MiTmite9 you do realize dog’s eat vomit and poop from just about every breed of living creatures on this earth. Not to mention they eat any animal they can dig out of the ground, gophers, moles etc. or even dead animals. Living bugs, dead bugs, living snakes dead snakes etc etc. so i think a greenie or whatever is a bit redundant. but nice plug for the product, do you have stock in it or something and hope these posts will make ya some extra cash?
No need to be rude.
Why is it that when some people read something they don’t agree with they get rude? What’s their point when they belittle someone? Really!!
My dogs go to the horse barn and eat horse crap. I’m sure a puparoni will not poison them. Greenies are not all that much healthier.
Ya what you said..My dogs go to the horse barn and eat horse crap. I’m sure a puparoni will not poison them. Greenies are not all that much healthier.
Good one! All was going well and then the “shouldn’t do this or that ers” popped up. There’s always one.
Greenies are a waste of money for my Siberians, they eat them in one chomp. The big ones have so much corn starch it makes them sick. Easier to just brush their teeth.
My dogs want cuddle time and will bark or wooo demanding it. They love going for a walk even if just around the block. But when I get home from work or store and they didn’t come to the store they are elated and wooing. Yes they look me in the eyes and put their ears back for petting.
They also love to go over to the car to say “hey lets go somewhere” unless its hot out, then they know its too dangerous and would rather go swim in the doggy pool.
Well I just found out that melon rinds are good for cleaning the dogs teeth, but its like a treat for them! Me I leave a little bit of the fruit on & chop , then freeze, .Put in a sandwich bag & whenever its time for a treat, or put a few in bag when going on a walk is great. Best thing “its free”! Also my dogs breath smells like a cantaloupe. Not that disgusting dog breath that is aweful. So when my dog goes to lick my ears I don’t have to smell DOG BREATH, its as if I was eating it myself. Sparticus also enjoys lettuce & tomatoes ,. Giving our pets a little of what we eat helps with them not begging I think. Especially since my dog eats when we do. Just make sure it is something safe for them, some people give their dogs ice cubes in water in the summer. Heck we put ice in our drinks I saw a an ice block with little toys inside, their was a recipe . chicken broth water & dog toys frozen. They had it outside on a stick like a huge doggie popsickle. I’m sure they wet it down first . I would hate to see a dog with its tongue stuck, cause it will most likely just pull, not realizing what the effects are . Neat idea for those HOT days.
Lettuce isn’t always a good idea. Dogs cannot properly digest it, but if you know you dog can take it. Go for it, people say chocolate kills dogs. I’ll give my dog a half of a chocolate chip cookie every once in a while, moderation is the key, even when they love it soooo mucch! Lol.

Wooohooo! Well said!!!! I mean if ur just going to be rotten and nasty go else where no one wants to hear ur stupid reasons for this or that!! Well said Liz :-) u said exactly what I was thinking!!!
Look at you!
Dogs r cool!
You can also gets greenies at Costco cheaper. Sometimes on sale
Puparoni and beggin strips ate not cheap.
What about FRESH fruits and vegetables? My golden retriever loves them…
We have been using carrots for treats for years. Our dogs love them and we always have them around.
i my dog treats i get from blue buffalo, low in calories, low in sugar
My dogs won’t touch greenies, they can’t stand them..
My sisters MinPin loved greenies until they started making her sick…after she ate one she would have horrible green diarrhea…we quit giving them to her..something isnt right if it makes them sick like that
You might wanna look into what greenes do to dogs before you tell everyone to use them. Disolve one of then into water then say you wanna eat that
Id be careful with Greenies. There is a ton of chemicals and even heard plastic type product is in them. My dog recently had an allergic reaction to them. Her whole entire head, neck, and part of her body swelled. We were lucky to get her to take the medicine the vet recommened in time. I wouldnt suggest buying anything you cant eat youself. Plus parsley is good for your dogs breath and dental health.
So does mine. Big time! Is your dog an Australian cattle dog per chance?
I have to ask if you once used those snacks as treats to reward him for good behavior. If so, perhaps he wants you to feed it to him?
When he shares his treats with you, it is a plain, and simple, “I love you”. He wanted to share his beloved treats just because he loves you. You give them out of love, and he wanted to share them with you for the same reason. Dogs are so very smart, and they know how to show their love, and appreciation for what we do for them, out of love. He loves his treats, and he thinks you will too. Love is sharing, even for your Shadow. He waited all day to share one with your husband, and you too. That’s love.
It means he’s sharing with you. He’s one of your “pack” and does his part too. It’s the same instinct behind the gifts of dead animals they leave on the front porch.
I think they are trading when they do that, our Chesapeake retriever brings us cookies and toys for attention. .. or getting on the bed…I think she learned it from me when she was a puppy, she stole our stuff all the time so I would trade food or dog treats to bargain with her….warning Chesapeake bay retrievers are very smart and stubborn
we have a 5 month old chessie…stubborn?? NAW>>>LOL!!!!!
Hun my little girl does that with a bisquit she wants me to pinch it up into little pieces
I suspect your husband puts the “cookies” down before he leaves for work. If so, your do may think of them as a as his promise to return, for he eats one or both when “daddy” comes home. Dogs are “pack animals,” and you are both members of his pack, so he waits to eat until everyone’s together.
We have a 2 yr old German shepard, marley, is the most awesome dog we’ve ever had. I was worried something was wrong with her until i read this post. Whenever all of us leave and then come home, she goes nuts! Yelping whining, she sounds like she is being beat.Thanx u guys, now we realize she loves us and just happy we’re home. What a feeling!!!!
My dog waits for my alarm to go off in the morning and then he comes up and lays on top of me and snuggles for 10 minutes or so. Sometimes that’s the best part of my day!
Mine too. As soon as I wake up I have to run him to the door to go out, then I feed him (he gets reflux if he doesn’t eat early). But after all his needs have been met, he stands on my bed and quietly waits for me to remember that it is “snuggle time”. I get in the bed and he lies down between my legs as I pet and hug him and tell him he’s my “good little pumpkin.” He just closes his eyes and goes to sleep, but it is clear that this is necessary quality time in his opinion. He expects this – if only for 5 minutes.
i have five beagles, and i’m usually bottom puppy when it comes to bedtime…..they all snuggle up to me!!! anyway, they each have their own way of expressing their love to me, but the funniest is Buford T. Justice, my lemon beagle…..he looks like he could be Maymo’s brother!!! he literally stands on his head!!!! head down, butt up (the kiss my hiney position), but he keeps going and it looks like a headstand!!!! he does this every morning and every night!!!!!! gosh i love the beagles!!!!!
My chihuahua does that also. I’ve always wanted to know what that gesture meant.
Perhaps the beagle on it’s head is practicing yoga?! LOL! If we are up and about early I get dressed before going downstairs. My Boarder collie stars down the stairs with me. He stops and stays at the landing. I go turn off the alarm and it talks and says it’s deactivated. At that sound Marley is down the stairs and out 2 doors as i open them. All this without telling him anything. He is so smart it’s scarey sometimes.
We had a border collie. Smartest dog. So kind and sweet and playful. He played so much so when told ge had scloriosis was a shock. I had no idea he was in pain. He was always playing. Hos favorite thing was bringing a toy to you and throwing it (wherever he was) or his silly looks. I knew he loved me. He was so gentle. We now have a shih tzu and nothing like our Border Collie. We do want another in a few years.
I have a red beagle, and she does what we call the “tilt” she literally tilts her head like she’s confused. It is hilarious! I have had beagles all my life growing up don’t think I could ever get a different type of breed! I have never heard of lemon beagle… Interesting!
When I sneeze, cough,, my dog will spring his cute self over to me to see if I’m okay. If I cry, he puts his face against mine and stays there until I stop. When we are laying together I’ll inhale and exhale deeply and 2-3 seconds later he will breathe the same way. So precious. Feeling the LOVE!
That’s so cute. I meditate and I swear my dog does too. Soon her breathing pattern matches mine, then she starts snoring which is hilarious. So nice to read about how much people’s animals mean to them.
So cute, when I cry, my Molly will sit on my lap and lick my tears til I stop. If my hands are over my eyes, she will scratch my hands til I move them. A dogs love is so amazing, and a great feeling.
My dog licks me. She also will try to comfort my oldest when she is sad. My oldest is on autism diagnosis
My three old chihuahua mix Lily, had to get her anal glands done and when they handed her to me she immediately snuggled up to me as close as she could and layer her her little head on my neck. When I’m laying on my bed she runs up to me and hugs be ( she lays down with each front leg on both sides of my neck, and kisses my chin just before she lays her top of her head on my chin, then I provide her with head scratches. She only let’s me touch her paws. If I go inside somewhere and leave her with family she whines til I come back. Last time I left her for three days at a friend’s house to go visit family, they said she wouldn’t eat at all. Every night she comes over to me in bed to sleep facing me with her head on my arm.
You are truly and completely loved and very lucky for it, as are they!
My 3 yr old Pit/Boxer/Whippet mix, Lily gives Hugs! It’s fun to have our 85 lb dog sit beside you facing you and put one paw on either shoulder. If you don’t acknowledge her enough, she will take a paw and gently paw at our face. When we squeeze back at huqgs, she isn’t tense at all and don’t try and back away. I love hugging such a big solid Dog. She is such a Lover and cuddle bug!
Katie, your Lily is suffering from separation anxiety. This is why she whines and will not eat when you are away. It isn’t cute, she needs help to overcome it. Please do not allow her to continue with this disorder, it will only get worse.
I have 2 Cocker Spaniels and my favorite thing is the “dog pile” game I get every morning in bed. As soon as they see me roll over or open an eye, the bigger one lays across my back and starts making playful growling noises and then the 2nd dog does the exact same thing. I can feel their stubby little tails wagging a mile a minute. Cracks me up every time! Another special moment is when I take the clothes out of the dryer and they LOVE me wrapping them in warm blankets and they look at me with big loving eyes as I finish folding the clothes. They make me feel very loved.
my Chihuahua Lily shows me she loves me we play together all the time I gave her treats and when she was a puppy even though I had bad chest pains from fibromyalgia she would sleep right on my chest we love each other very much I would sell everything of mine if it meant losing her she is my heart and I will love her always
I talk to all my pets, always have- always will. My husband thinks I’m crazy because not only do I talk to my dogs anytime – anywhere, but I speak as though they are talking back to me. Like when I tell my Belgian Malinios “I love you so very much- I couldn’t love you anymore!!” she tells me- “Momma- thats not totally true- because I know you will love me more tomorrow!!!”
When I talk to her she will thump her tail!!
I even have a different voice for each pet.
My horse, Wini even gives me a hug- when I lean into her- she puts her head down just like a hug.
My cat, Jer would be waiting for me everyday when I’d come home from work (like all my 4 legged kids) and would meow in this special voice and she would say I love you with her eyes.
My life would not be complete without all my kids!!
People that do not have pets are so missing out and they don’t even realize it.

When my son was killed in a car accident in 1999, I went into the pasture to escape some unrelated drama in the house. My wife’s horse, RumRunner came over seeking attention and I told him I wasn’t in the mood right then. He dropped to the ground and rubbed his back in the dirt like I have seen before. This time though instead of rising he maneuvered his head to my lap and stayed that way for over five minutes as I petted him! The neighbor across the street saw it and said it was the most touching thing he had ever witnessed. I got hurt a few years ago and was unable to care for them any longer and gave them away but to this day remember how incredible a feeling it was to this day.
So sorry you lost a son so suddenly & tragically. Pets KNOW when we are in pain & long to soothe our hearts. I pray your health improves.
Do sorry for your loss. Seems like nothing and no one can comfort like pets. I hand a boil on my leg and my doberman Dixie stuck under me all night & cried when I went to the hospital for a week. She was excited when I came home. She’s my girl.
I extend my condolence for your supreme loss. Thank you for having the courage to share this uplifting story of love and support that you experienced at such a vulnerable time.
I am so sorry for your loss. So glad RumRunner knew what you needed. Pets are so amazing. My kids are on autism spectrum but I also suffer from pain. She is the perfect heating pad. She wont leave my side if I am not feeling well
So sorry for your loss, I know that our animals know when we are in pain either emotional or physical, I have lupus and when I have a flare my beagle never leaves my side! May God bless you!
Our Leonberger loves to reach out a paw and touch us. He leaves the paw next to us, and sometimes, when allowed on the sofa, will lay his head on our leg or snuggle up next to us. Our goldendoodle will come up and touch us with his nose, always shows up with something in his mouth when greeting us–an offering?
My dog does this, too! Actually, she now strokes my cheek as gently as she can in return after I stroke her neck, chin and cheek areas — three of her favorite spots.
Is this normal or special ~ We have a male & female pom and when the female was ready to give birth on our bed our male pom was jumping all around the bed trying to get up. At first we ignored him thinking he will only get in the way, but after mom just laying there after birthing we thought it might be a good idea to let the male on the bed. He just took right over, he chewed the cord off of each pup & cleaned them up he did everything you would have thought mom should have done. That has been 5 yrs. ago now. We kept 1 of the pups and she has seizures once in a while and when she does dad is right there keeping an eye on everything and when she comes back around he will sniff her like he is making sure she is ok. If his wife or child cry out he is right there to make sure they are ok while mom could care less about these things. Is this normal or is he a special Pomeranian?
Special
Very special!
My male Pom is the same way with his babies. He loves to play with them. Almost more protective than momma.
Wow, whether this is usual behavior or not for Pom’s as a breed, he sounds very special to me!
My 4 year old Dog Hazel whenever anyone in family is ill she will lay by us , like she is watching over us . Whenever any of us goes anywhere and when we come home shes so happy to see us. And she loves to sit on the chairs in living room or the patio, especially when theres company. Like she is being like us sitting in the chairs like shes joining us. She makes me so happy just her adorable presence ..
My black lab/German shepherd Napoleon does the same thing. I have lupus, and fibromyalgia, and when I’m having a flare-up, he will not leave my side. Dogs are great.
My black lab / German shepherd always lays down with me at night, and especially when I’m having a lupus flare-up. He never leaves my side, and will lie down on the side that’s hurting the most. Also, when I tell him to lie down with his baby, my 11 yr. old son, he runs straight to him, and lies down. Love this sweet boy so much.
I have a yorkie and she is the sweetest. She’s my little shadow , always want to follow me around and run errands with me. When I leave she sits by the window waiting for me to come back. If I’m not home and my dad is, she follows him around and constantly brings him her toys to play.
I have a yorkie as well, I actually inherited her as my daughter got her as a senior in school. Well when college came she couldn’t take bella along so I agreed to watch her. For the first year she kept her distance and acted as though I beat her. It’s going on 4 years now and when my daughter comes by bella showes her how much she still loves her but she quickly comes to me and makes sure I feel loved. I have a big ole jeep and when I drive around I feel on top of the world and bella stands on my lap and loves to cruise around I think she thinks she is a pitbull while she is cruising. Never thought id have a yorkie but im lucky now to have her she is my buddy and im hers too.
Welost abeagle she was speacel
My sweet boy Phoenix absolutely freaks out when I come home wagging his tail and sniffing me and looking at me. He follows me everywhere I go, even if just leaving the room. When I take a shower, he lays down by the bathroom door and waits for me to come out. He will lay on my feet when watching TV or he will just lean his side of his body against my legs. Sometimes he cuddles up on the couch with me and rests his chin on my lap and looks up at me :-) When he leaves the room, if I call his name he comes running to me every time. When I am at work he likes to sleep on my bed probably because it smells like me. He is such a sweet boy and my best bud!
Lucky boy! You will cherish this love and friendship the whole of your life!
I have two rescued pit bulls. Tank (his name describes his body) has a “pit bull purr”. When we go to bed he snuggles up as close as he can get and kind of hums, without stopping for 15 – 20 minutes. Then he sighs deeply and starts snoring like a drunk sailor. Blue puts his head under my chin and matches his breathing to mine. Once in a while he’ll rub my cheek with his, then put his head back under my chin.
I rescued a pit and they’re the most loving dogs in the world. The pit bull purr is pure love and gratitude. What a special bond you have with yours.
My dog Shadow and I have what I call love time for 5-10 min in the morning before I go to work where it’s just the two of us hugging and kissing. It’s just our special time and truly the best part of my day! Every day!
My dachshund loves to sleep with us but sometimes my husband gets tired of him sleeping in between us so he has to sleep in his kennel. Once I got up in the middle of the night and let him out, he raced back to our room and snuggled down into his usual spot. When I got into bed he was laying there wagging his tail under the covers, he was so happy to be back next to me, his favorite human.
My dog is a gotti pit bull and believe me, he loves me to death. He gives me every sign that was mentioned above about your dog telling you how much he loves you. I can’t go anywhere without him following me. And most of all he sleeps with me every night never mist a night. He lays rite beside me and will not get up until I do. If iI’m sick and in bed all day he is rite there with me and will not get up to eat or use the bathroom. He will hold it all day and will go all day without eating, and he will lay there until I get up. Then I’ll let him out to piss he will go half way then stop and look back at me until I go out with him, then he’s back in the house following me around. I can’t even go to the bathroom by myself he is sitting on the floor beside me until I’m done. We eat together and I’ll go lay back down and here he comes, jumping back in bed with me. And I mean he layes rite beside me with his head on my lap (legs). When I have to go somewhere and he can’t go he will follow me to the door and when I shut the door behind me he will lay rite there in front of the door, without moving until I get home. Now my question to you all is, dose my dog love me. L.o.l.
Whenever i am driving with my dog in the car he either sit in my lap or if i tell him no he will then stand on the armrest between the seats and lean his head on my shoulder. So sweet
My American Staffordshire mix does the same thing when I drive. It is so heartwarming.
There is another thing dogs do to show affection I haven’t seen here – it is called mouthing.
My dog does this to me every night when I get home like 20 times! They come up to you and gently put your wrist in their mouth and kind of bite down very gently. I didn’t know why my dog did this till I asked the vet. She said it is a sign of affection. My husband & son get jealous because he rarely does it to them!!! Cause I’m the mama that’s why!!!!!!
My miniature schneider likes to play hide and seek. I come home and she is out side in the yard. When I call for her, and she can’t yet see me, I run and hide. She will look for me for 30+ minutes until she finally sniffs me out. Then she howls and cries that I’m home for 15 min. I have to stop her from crying because she starts getting choked up. She loved me and I’d swear that when she is howling it sounds like I LOVE YOU..
Sounds like you’re the only one who likes that game. You’re dog is crying because she’s frustrated. Not cool man! Am I the only one who thinks this is cruel?!
I hope you don’t have children and play the same, frustrating game with them. Why do you do this to your dog? I guarantee the dog doesn’t like it.
My dog is a huskey / lab we think. When my wife goes to bed at night he follows and lays outside the bedroom door till I go to bed and then he will go to his bed in the livingroom. If she is out of the house shopping or at work he lays on the stair landing where he can see out the windows over the front door watching for her till she gets home. He even waits outside the bathroom door for her. So loyal. Drives her nuts sometime.
My female shih-tzu humps my arm.
all the dogs ive ever had have followed me around like marys little lamb.
My American Eskimo Prince will lay on my feet when I’m on the couch. It was very hard on me when I had to put my “Eskie” Fluffy down after 18 years. All I have to do is hold out my arms and he comes running if he happens to not already be by my side. I don’t know if I could have made it if it weren’t for his total love.
My heart melts when my female Chihuahua sits in front of me and looks straight into my eyes. Unconditional love!
mine does the same thing
My chihuahua does that also
Chihuahuas to me are one of the most loving and loyal dogs. Dixie is with me every minute of the day. When I had to have surgery my daughter said she stayed under the bed the entire time. I was in there 4 days. When I got home she went crazy. She’s not a locker but she sure was that day. I cried my eyes out cause I missed her so much and she obviously missed me just as much. I don’t know how I will survive if something was to happen to her. I love my baby girl
Another action not mentioned… my vet told me… a dog will “lean into you and push” sometimes and that in the doggie world is a hug. My Labrador used to stand next to me when I’m driving, and as we turned down the long gravel road to our house, she would lean so hard and smush me against the door. It always made me laugh out loud, so I would push back just a little. “Morgan” would “hug me” until we got home.
My 18 months old Doberman lives with me in his 1900sqft house. There are several dog beds around in every room for him to use.. But when I am sitting at the computer desk, then he will come and roll himself together to a ball under the desk and sleep with his head on my feet. It is truly touching to see that he rather sleeps on the hardwood floor then on a soft bed if it means he can be closer to me.
My little dog is so sweet, she will lay over me on her back and stare in my eyes. She sleeps in my bed (when she is not with our kids) and cuddles under the covers at the bend of my knees.
My Shiba Inu, Honey, I rescued six months ago, is so bonded to me, that I have no privacy, he follows me everywhere, he stares at me , cocks his head to the side when I talk to him, always has to be touching me, butts up against the small of my back while we’re sleeping, touches the back of my leg as I walk away, licks my arm or chin after he finishes eating, teases me with his toys, and is congenial about continuous and new training, but never smiles. Is that enough?
I trip over my toy fox terrier named Buddy that’s how close he is to me ,everywhere I am in the house,he is too. Could he be insecure?
My Westie Bichon “Chica” will actually choose just one of three treats that are presented each night after she completes her dinner. Each night she picks a different treat. I know she has added years to my life.
ehen ever I come home and sit down my dog will jump in my lap and lick my ears till I make her stop
Hi my dog is a yorkie his name is milo and he does all those things that it said but yawns with me so ya but the last owner did not take care if him he was chased arround by pitbulls and then they ate his food so he is scared of every thing and not very playful because the mother of the owner who was always with him and she was never playing with him so he has no toys or anything, we try but hes getting a hang of some stuff
He does not yawn with me that is what I meant
My smiles and stands right in front of me then I pet her. I love saying hello.
I have a 9 yr old Chihuahua named Dante. He is my absolute joy! He shows me every day that he loves me just as much as I do hom. When I come home he makes this face like a grin…his teeth bared, eyes squeezed shut, licking the air and patting his front paws on the floor while just about wiggling out of his body! Something amazing to me…the past year I had had some health issues requiring surgery and post-op complications. He knows when I am sick sometimes before I even know there is something wrong. Three times he has come out from under the covers in the middle of the night and started nuzzling my head, he then lays on top of my head on the pillow. Each time, within an hour I was admitted to the hospital either for emergency surgery or a lengthy stay.
Something else I adore about him is the words he knows like ‘get in your bin’ – his pet carrier in the truck or ‘cheeseburger’ or ‘grandma’ – my mother. He knows not to eat something if I tell him it’s ‘chocolate’ he knows ‘take a bath’ and ‘cut your nails’. I swear he can understand everything I say!
He is my first dog and I’m amazed at how strong the bond is between people and their dogs. Last year he was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and I felt like MY heart was being torn out. I treasure every minute I have with him (meds working well)…he’s my protector, my snuggle buddy, my best friend!
My Goldendoodle Carmel smiles whenever I come in the door. Her smile has her mouth closed, all teeth together and she then pulls back both her top and her bottom lips. Very similar to the way a human smiles. I am the only person we have ever seen her do this to and she does it whenever I have been gone and come back home. Doesn’t matter if I am gone a short while or days, she always gives me the same reaction. She then wants to lick my face and won’t let me alone until I let her. I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have that to come home to ever day!
I have a long haired tiny Chihuahua ,that no matter where I lay down he wil[ curl up under my chin, and he will do it with anyone
I had a toy poodle named Domino that I loved so very much. I didn’t doubt his love for me either. I would tell him, ” I love you ” and he would back up and would make sounds that were clearly heard as ” I uve ou “. I know this sounds crazy but it wasn’t just me that would hear it but others heard it also. This wasn’t a one time thing but he would do it almost every time I would tell him. I miss my “buddy”. I had to put him down about two years ago. I still grieve for him some days. It is so true that Domino was this mans best friend.
I have no doubt that my dog loves me very much. It’s his facial expressions when we’re bonding, and more so his adoring constant stare. My favorite is how he snuggles up to me at night and some part of his body is always touching me throughout the night.
My dog Pepper, well it’s my dad’s dog really :). But, he’s pure joy. He’s mixed Terrier + Chihuahua. I made him a dog toy because he hates noise and the hard plastic in his mouth. When I come home he’s ready for me to play with him by placing his two front paws on my shins! He also licks my hand and he smiles constantly and have pictures to prove it. He hasn’t had a happy life, before we adopted him he was abused so we liked to think he the family he never had.. PS, he had another name when we bought him, but changed it to Pepper and he responded to it and never looked back!
In 2012, I was in the living room with my wife and my 6 y/o (at the time) Golden Retriever, Chase. I got a call from my sister, letting me know my mom, who was very ill, was given about 2 weeks to live. Keep in mind, I’m a man’s man and not a crier by any means but, as I was telling my wife what I had just learned, I completely lost it. Chase, who had never seen me cry, came right over to where I was sitting and wedged himself between my knees, gave me a few licks to the face, then just lay his head down on my lap until I was done blabbering. It was a moment I’ll never forget. He’s such a loyal, caring dog.
My wife and I have a 2 yr old cockapoo named Claude. He is about the silliest dog I know..he will literally sing to us out of the blue..we laugh and he runs in circles as if to say yayyyyyyy I made mommy and daddy laugh. He is quite the cuddler too..LOVES to just be by my wife or I. I honestly have no idea what Id ever do if anything happened to him..Its amazing how just a simple look or a lick or a silly song he sings can instantly bring a smile..truly he is our furbaby.
When I met Max, he was on his way back to the shelter third time. He had been rescued from 4 years of mistreatment , taken in by an 84 year old lady and returned the next day ( too much energy) the next adoption lasted for a couple of weeks (until the landlord found out) I heard Max was going back so the family could avoid eviction. I met Max the day before his return was to happen. We met in a park and I walked with Max and his heartbroken soon to be former owner, I wasn’t sure ( never had a dog this small before) but when I went to my car to leave as soon as I opened the door Max got in the front seat and looked at me as if saying it’s time to go home, so I now have a Minpin that is joined to me at the hip, he went from a rib showing 10 lbs to a healthy 12 never out of eyesight of me , he wakes me on the morning with a wet nose to the ear and we play before getting up, I get 1 cup of coffee before his AM walk , everyday I see a big smile sparkling eyes and a tail that won’t stop. He goes with me in the car unless the stores aren’t animal friendly, he known at all the finest pet stores and parks in the area. On the occasions the I have to leave him, when I tell him he’s staying home he gives me a look turns around and goes right to the front window to watch for my return. It been 4 years since I met Max , my wife has gotten over her jealousy:) well it’s time to go cook Max’s breakfast and get my coffee, wife’s left for work and Max needs a walk
My miniature Dachshund loves to get on my lap and he puts hus lil paws on my shoulders and turns his head for me to kiss him so sweet I just love my Woody
My cat will jump up on the couch and plop his head on my chest and thump his tail hard on the couch until I start petting him. if i’m in a room with a closed door I’ll see his paw reaching under the door, snagging the carpet, sometimes pulling on the under side of the door, so it thumps loudly, I call it his knock…
My dog barks and chases my husband and son to the door when they go to work. She doesn’t do that to me when I leave the house, she has even tries to bite their ankles or pant leg. Why does she do that?
One of my dogs named Skittles, she’s my Beverly Hills Chihuahua because she looks like Chloe from that movie. She always seems to have to snuggle with me in my arms when I’m trying to sleep, and if any of the kids try to grab her from me she gets upset and growls. If I’m not holding her she’s fine being loved by anyone in the house. Tiny my chiwenie jumps up and down and starts running 100miles an hour around the house and on me. Delgado my step pit mix talks to me and pushes his whole body against me and just looks at me for me to pet and hug him. My terrier husky mix Mufasa jumps on my leg so I can pet him and hugs my leg if I’m standing if I’m sitting he jumps in my lap and lays there. Love my fur babies especially since I know they love me to.
My Katy loves me like I’ve never been loved by a dog before. I’ve had dogs all my life, in fact my previous dog, a Scottie we got as a pup named Maggie, was 17 when she died of old age. Maggie was special & I thought I’d never have another dog like that. I was so wrong. We found Katy, an Aussie/Border Collie mix, in our local shelter. She had been shipped here to PA after Hurricane Katrina, she was rescued by a National Guardsman in St. Bernard’s Parish. She had a dislocated hip that wouldn’t go back in & lived here for 5 months with it out, while the shelter looked for her owner in Louisania. After 5 mos. they decided to put her up for adoption, but she had to be healthy first. A local vet donated his services and did FHO surgery to remove the head of her femur in that leg. She was 1 1/2 yrs old & had already lived a lifetime. My 6 yr old twins & I met Katy two weeks after her surgery. They carried her into the visiting room, so she wouldn’t slip on the floor, and set her down. She went over & sniffed my kids then came straight to me, put her head in my lap & leaned as if to say, What took u so long? There was no question that she picked me. She came home & I spent the summer rehabilitating her. She went from not bearing any weight on that leg to running like the wind & you’d never know that dog had a bad hip. The first time I had to leave her at a kennel, she didn’t eat for 4 days. I never boarded her after that. She stays with my mom if I have to leave & my mom says she lays at the top pf the steps the entire time I am gone. Katy will be 12 this year. She started having eye problems 5 yrs ago. That turned into Glaucoma & the intense pressure in her eyes had detached her retinas & she lost her sight. What happened next was the hardest thing I ever had to do. She was no longer responding to her meds & had to have her eyes removed. It was heartbreaking to see her in so much pain after surgery. But when she heard my voice she got up & walked over to me. That was three years ago. She still walks the entire neighborhood with me & is still as friendly and as sweet as the day we brought her home. She is by far the smartest & most devoted dog I have ever known & I am a better person for having had the privilege of being her owner. She greets me with doggie hugs every time I come home & every night she still jumps into bed with me and snuggles up. I put my bed on the floor & installed a bed rail on one side so she wouldn’t fall off! I love this dog dearly & my heart will break a thousand times over when I have to say goodbye to her. She’s old & her beautiful black & cream coat is now a mottled grey. She’s blind and getting pretty arthritic in her back & hips. She still plays like a pup with other dogs & she has more good days than bad. She’s a trooper & she’s my hero!
Heidi, So touching. You were meant to be a family.
I have 5 dogs various breeds from large Shepherd to small Maltese, they are my life line. I am disabled, children are grown. My husband is military an gone a lot. They are with me 24/7, my largest will come to the bed in the am an if I am having problems all I need do is say “Moma needs help” he gets as close as possible, I put one arm around his neck an say OK he pulls an I push. Some days that’s the only way I have to get out of bed!!! The others stay back til I’m on my feet! They all know how to love an care for me. When I have my morning coffee they have their treats!
My heart smiles, ad breaks, upon reading all of your post. I appreciate them.
We had our dear Smudge put to sleep a little over 2 yrs. ago now. I still grieve a lot for her. Tears are never far, when thinking about her, which is often.
I am partly disabled at present, and feel it would not be fair to to get another dog, because they need exercise, and walks, which is hard for me to do.
IF your precious dog has trouble walking, or pain, stiffness in legs, or joints. PLEASE , check about getting your dog DASAQUIN, with MSG., . Our large dog had trouble walking at around 8 yrs. old. Doctor recommended, DASAQUIN with MSG for her. A large tablet, that we broke in 3 pieces, after her breakfast. She loved it. It was a real treat for her, and waited for it every morning. Within a few weeks of taking it , she was walking with no problem, until she died, at age 16 yrs. old. If you get it at the vets, it is very expensive. We got a large bottle online for a whole lot cheaper. MSG, is for inflammation, and pain. So be sure to look for the DASAQUIN, with MSG with it. They have it for small , med, or large dogs. Or, just by a bottle for large dogs, and cut it in half. They have dosage instructions. If it is too expensive for you, cut back on some of your treats, so your dog can have a better, more pain free life, and better walking. People called our dog a pup, at 16 yrs. of age. She did not look, or act like it. I am telling you this, so you will have many more yrs. with your baby, like we did with our dear Smudge. We still miss her dearly. God bless you all, and your precious fur babies. Enjoy them, and spoil, and love them, like they so deserve.
MY dog sighs with me!
I have a little dog, Puppin… Puppin is a mutt but he is such a sweet dog… Originally, I bought him from a friend for my son… When we got him, he was withdrawn, skiddish and scared of everything… It took a while before he got comfortable with us… He couldn’t ride in the car because the friend that had him had never taken him in the car and while she claims he was a puppy, he was too big to be an actual puppy-puppy… He must have been a few months older… Still a puppy but not the little bundle of bouncing energy… Anyway, Puppin is now, finally, somewhat comfortable with my son and I… He was actually supposed to be my son’s dog but he has become mine because I am the caregiver… My son plays with him when he comes in for a few minutes but I’m the one that sits on the floor, pats him and feed him doggie treats when we’re sitting and watching television… I’m diabetic so I don’t snack but I give him pup-peroni, beggin’ strips and little meaty bone biscuits… I know he loves me because when I come up the stairs, it’s no longer unusual to hear him scratch the door and say, and I swear he almost speaks, hi mom… He’s my little ‘Muppin Puppin’ and he has become a very prominent part of my heart…
my boston Lola won’t eat until i sit down with my coffee in the morning. I have to pet her , tell her she’s a good girl then she will eat.
My 1 year old Australian cattle dog mix goes crazy when I come home.
My husband recently asked which of our many dogs over the years is my favorite? How can I pick just one? Buster, the Olde English Sheepdog loved to travel with my husband and rested his head on John’s shoulder as he drove. He had been abused before a friend rescued him and smiled at us constantly, as if in thanks. Our black Lab, Al, wouldn’t go to sleep at night until he made his rounds and made sure everybody was safely in bed. Spike, our St. Bernard came to us at a very stressful time and proved to provide great comic relief. She pranced around the house with her tail held high and wagging and a big smile on her face. Shadow was almost dead when we rescued that sweet Newfoundland. After a lot of medical care and love, he lived up to his name and rarely left our side.. Santo the Sheltie whined and danced like crazy whenever we were reunited, even if the absence was because he was answering nature’s call. Winston was our second gentle giant, another Newfoundland. He headed the welcome home for me each night, always being delighted to see me again. Shortly before I was due home he’d lay by the door and wait for me. Whenever I was sick he layed by my bed as if watching over me. That brings me to Moose, the toy Poodle on my lap. I thought Poodles were sissy dogs, but we love this little guy. He meditates with my husband and always takes advantage of an available lap. Like many of the others he follows us into the bathroom, sleeps snuggling with us and brings us immeasurable joy. With so many best friends how could I pick just one?
Dogs can’t Love. Man Can only love. Animals React by instinct and who is going to feed them. They learn reactions that appear to be love to what a man thinks love should look like. God loves man very much but most don’t know it or recognize it. But I have to say, boy do I love my dog. Never cried so hard in my life. Whales like a big baby. Love is used in so many instances and misunderstood. that we dont know what love really is. I love this apple pie. I Love my Child. I love my Job. I love my car. I love the way that looks. I love the way he talks I love my wife. It’s been diluted to meaningless. Really you love your Job as much as you love your Kids?
Actually, people who study dogs’ neurology have found that their emotions are very similar to those of humans. Their brains’ temporal lobes and limbic areas are similar to ours. So yes, in fact, dogs do feel love. And fear, and envy, and happiness, and a whole complex range of emotions.
I have always believed that animals had a lot to teach us humans. When you think about how dogs show their affection towards us and began to know we love them, it just becomes a fact they are part of our family. It was strange thing when I first learned that I was my dog’s protector! and hey depended on me for their needs and affection. So I learned that first, to be of service to them and in return he showed me how much he loved me, A mutual bond formed.I enjoyed my responsibility.
Then one day my mother called me and said she loved to have one of the litter that a stray ‘mom” left her pups with us. She was mostly part of two kinds of a small to medium size and she had a home a block away from our house. So my husband and I started training the pups when they got old enough, which was interesting. Well we brought her the sweetest and smartest pup of the three and she was
a remarkable animal. Mother treated her like a daughter, talked to her and they sleep together. They were best buds, making each day a happy fulfilling life for the two of them. They both knew they were meant to be together. This made me very happy. Living alone is not fun. When you think about animals in general they depend on humans for care and love. Maybe that is why God made these creatures!
I could add many more stories about animals, and how they affect our lives. Do know how so many animals are trained to help others? Seeing eye dogs, how important this relationship is. Dogs that owners take their pets to hospitals to cheer them and make a sick child smile and forget for awhile they are in pain or downcast? Some trained animals protect families, and some are working on the police force to catch the bad guys.
But the best stories are the individual ones who have pets to take care of and in return receive all the love and affection that make us smile and sometimes cry when we are down and need lots of love and attention. What a wonderful world. You only need love!!!
Thanks for this opportunity to talk about these adventures in living.
I have an Italian Greyhound that is sooooo devoted to me. He watches my every move when I get up out of my chair or off of the sofa. He makes sure I don’t get out of his site and if I do he gets up and comes to me. Once in while I have had to leave him for several days and he refuses to eat except just enough to keep him alive. He is so very happy to see me come back waging his tail so hard and fast that it moves his whole body. When I’m sick he seems to know this and will sleep right up next to me all night, otherwise he stretches out all over our king size bed. Another thing he does is at night when it is bed time he sits in the middle of the living room and looks at. If I pay him no attention he will slap his front paws down and then look to the bedroom and then to me and will continue to this until I get up and go to bed with him. I’m not sure who trains who around here or who loves who more, but it is mutual I’m sure. I love my little Dallas.
When I get home my Pom named baby jumps and starts waving her paw in excitement it’s the cutest thing ever
My baby smiles and actually LAUGHS, LOL!!! It took me years to figure out why he would make that wheezing noise sometimes and even had the vet check him out. Then one day he was making that noise and somebody came to the door and he immediately stopped and I thought, “Well it’s not because he is winded.” Then I realized that he ONLY does it when I am playing with him and am laughing myself – he’s laughing with me!!! God I love dogs, they are such blessings and bring so much joy to our lives!
My dog follows me everywhere. His latest thing is to sit outside the bathroom door anytime I go in and shut it. I come out and there he is, like MOMMA, I have been waiting for you! Talk about love!
Or creepy stalking….
oh no, are you serious?
stare a dog in the eye? that is NOT what you want to do – you will encourage an aggressive dog to be dominant or threatened or intimidate your dog.. DOGS STARE EACH OTHER DOWN FOR DOMINANCE>
This is NOT a cat or human gaze..
who writes these things?
A crazy person that goes WAY overboard humanizing animals…it’s a mental illness.
My chihuahua/dauchsaund mix is 11 years old (about to be 12). I’ve had her since the 5th grade and she literally follows me everywhere. People think I’m joking but I’m not. She won’t go outside to the bathroom unless I go with her, she whines every single time I walk away from her while she’s eating, she pulled her dog bed onto mine so that she could sleep with me. Heck I can’t even go to the bathroom by myself. She’ll follow right behind me and sit at my feet while I get ready or use the bathroom. She likes to sit by the tub when I shower. She’s literally the sweetest thing ever though. I love her so much!
My 5 yr. old Mini Schnauzer will also touch us or the chair with his paw ….. still not sure what that means …….he likes to be held like a baby in your arms for some love a belly rub. he’s done this since day one at 10 weeks old ….. If I start talking to my husband he’ll take his left paw and reach up and put it on my mouth …. like he’s saying, “Stop Talking ” just rub my belly …. This was the first male dog I’ve owned. I’ve had two female Schnauzers …. each had their own distinct personalities. Schnauzers are considered yappy dogs …. my male is very layed back. We just love this boy !!!
My 3 boys leave plenty of poop all over the yard to make sure I get plenty of exercise when cleaning it up. They want me to stay heart strong, yeah, they love me that much! Oh and there is that thing of acting so happy to see me even if I just went to take out the garbage.
I have 3 labs that can’t control themselves when I come home. They are all over me crying…so vocal. I love every minute of it! When I cry..they climb up on my lap and snuggle into my neck. Just the best comfort!
They are by my side when ever they can be….whether to play with a toy and have me involved or to just lay quietly and relax. I have always made it a practice to kiss each one good night and also kiss each one goodbye when I leave. They give me such love and happiness…they should always know I love them!
What breed is the dog pictured?
My dog shows his love for me by pissing all over my shoes and lower legs when I get home from a long day…
1 of 2 this is the 2nd time I’ve ever posted anything thing on the www. But, bow wow my rat terryer, roxy will do the same darn thing, when I’m not in the shoes, when she was a pup . Cheers .
Are you SURE that is love?! HA! HA!
That doesn’t sound like love that sounds like he is mad at you for leaving him alone too much
OMG, though I was losing it, can’t believe how much I love my rat terryer . She’s as independent as an old alley cat , and everyday she will do something that shows the love, what a tee’s . Even my wife’s comets hint at a little jealously, I’m so glad to have stumbled on to this site , and read all these hart worming posts, thank you all. S.P.
My daughter has a 6 year old Maltese who was treated like their baby. When they brought home their new son they were a bit worried how the dog would react to the competition. He sniffed him but generally acted indifferent until the baby was 6 weeks old and was have some tummy time on a blanket on the floor, the dog went to his dish took out a piece of dog food and brought it over carefully setting it down next to the baby. He then licked the baby’s foot and laid down on the floor next to him but off of the blanket. Very cute and a real sign of acceptance.

I have a Chihuahua mix with spaniel god i love him an i do feel his afection he goes crazy when i get home an he snuggles with me every morning like hes tellin me to wake up an follows me every where all i see is that little tale behind me … An when hes in trouble he puts his ears back an looks ashamed an trys to cuddle with me like saying sorry in his why
My Schnauzer Buster tucks me in every night. When I go to bed he finds his stuffed toy that looks like a real rabbit and waits for me to tell him he can jump up on the bed. He waits for me to get in under the covers and then drops the rabbit near me. He lays next to me and I talk to him and give him a good head to toe petting. Then when I’m done he moves to the foot of the bed while I watch a few minutes of TV. Soon he jumps down and lays on the floor next to my side of the bed. But the rabbit has to STAY on the bed. We have no idea how or why this routine started but it is exactly the same every night. Too funny, he’s such a great dog.
How about nudging? My Dogs can do this all day if I don’t pet them, they will show me in case I happened to forget!! And who can resist when they do that? I love my dogs, especially after a tough day nothing like coming home and cuddling up to them.
I currently have two dogs. Both of them were rescued. One is a coonhound mix. She shows her love to me when she blinks her eyes at me. I’ll say, “Mommy loves you!”, and she’ll start blinking her eyes. That’s the only time I notice her blinking her eyes in this way, so I figure she’s just telling me how much she loves me too. My other dog is a retriever mix. She lets me know how much she loves me by laying her head on my lap when I’m sitting and watching TV or reading. She’ll jump up on the couch, lay beside me, look up at me and then lay her head on my lap. She usually falls asleep shortly after that. How blessed and lucky are we to have these incredible dogs love us so much and love us unconditionally! Amazing!
Forgot to mention how my retriever mix (her name is Faith) does a little “dance” when I arrive home. She takes both front paws and slams them into the floor, as if she’s playing “Whack-a-Mole”! She’s so funny and so cute!!
My 3 month old Dachshund will sleep with me, but is only happy when laying in the middle of my chest with his head either on one of my shoulders, up against my neck, or tucked under my chin. I feel like he is cuddling my as I cuddle him. He took right up with me & can’t stand for me to be away from him. Good thing he is my social anexity therapy dog & goes everywhere with me.
I currently have 6 beagles. Scout who is the 4th oldest follows me around the house afraid to let me out of his sight. When my phone rings and I get my keys he is at the door waiting for me to leave so he can go too. Minnie the oldest acts like no one should get any of my attention but her. When I finally do sit on the couch here come all six of them to sit on my lap. And they all know when it is 9 p.m. That is when I go to bed the are looking at me to get their treat and get in their crates. If I happen to lay down for a nap, they are all in bed with me snuggled up.
I have a boxer and a black mouth curr. They are my rock. They love when I get down on the floor and play with them. They have saved me twice from livestock attacks. The bond I have with the grils makes my wife some what jealous at times but then the girls and myself share the love with her. All’s good and would not want to be without all three of my girls.
My Shih-Tzu/Japanese Chin mix, Sadie loves me with her eyes. She looks like a little ewok and goes everywhere with me. She comforts me when I am driving (I suffer from PTSD). I have trained her to high five-fist bump. She has not met someone that she doesn’t like and vice versa. When I dance, she starts to bark at me and nips at my toes. I retired from a good job to stay home with her and to be with her. She is my buddy. What I love most about Sadie – she gives me my space…it’s almost as though she knows I need space and she will go to her safe areas that I made for her. Sadie is not spoiled, but she is pampered. She loves her vet, her groomer, everyone who you would think most dogs wouldn’t love. I will take care of her and pamper her until she goes to Dog Heaven, which I hope won’t be anytime soon.
Well my dog is named Bella and she is a yorkie. So Bella ALWAYS sleeps in bed with me it is so cute and she smiles well she smiles and sneezes at the same time it is so cute. Also she also yawns with me. Oh yeah and one other thing, whenever I get home from like a vacation or a trip she always follows me around the house like this one time I stayed in Hawaii for 10 days and she was so exited to see me that when I got home she wouldn’t stop following me. Whenever I sat on the couch she did too when ever I got up, she did too. It wasso funny! I love my dog Bella!
I have a pit bull/boxer. She is the most loving dog I have ever had. I have had Shepard labs beagles and many many mixed dogs. She cuddles up next to me and my girl friend and she loves playing with my 8 month old daughter.
My lovely dog, I find her just staring at me sometimes. She is a “thinker” and you can always tell when her brain is in action. But I find it comforting when I find her just gazing at me for a long period of time. When I say something to her, she breaks out in to a large grin. I love my dog so much but alas, will be losing her to bone cancer in the near future.
I found my dog, Carlo, at the Shelter about 1 year ago. He had been abused and when I brought him home, he ran to a corner of the dining room and stayed there for 3 days. I wondered if he would ever warm up to me. Gradually, he has become a very loving and playful pet, but he had a lot of trust issues in the beginning.
He won’t sleep in my bed. He has a favorite chair in my bedroom or likes under the bed. He also has an open crate in the bedroom. Twice he has brought me baby quail. He didn’t hurt them, just gently put them on the floor and looked up at me…a present? He totally destroys any toy I get him within 20 minutes… stuffing everywhere, squeaker ripped out. He really loves them to death! I don’t know how I would get along without him now. He is such a part of my life and follows me everywhere. I love my funny little Carlo.
My cattle dog smiles at me and licks me. My mastiff lays next to me and puts her head in my lap and looks lovingly up at me! They are the best!!
I have two Weimaraners and I love them so much. One is 3yrs and the other is almost a year old. If I sit outside on the deck, they have to be right next to me and they argue over who is next to me. When I scold the puppy, Noah, he licks my face. They both want to sleep in bed with my husband and I but there is not enough room in the king size bed and not enough of me for them both to lay on or next to. lol
We have a yorkiepoo. He weighs about 6 pounds and his name is bailey. He will be 3 on August 16th. He can’t wait to get to one of us when we come home. He must greet us both. And he will only eat his meals if we sit in the kitchen with him. If we are not.home he waits till we are there and sitting with him. Then.at all times when we are home he doesn’t never sit on the floor..no ..that is beneath our little man. He is king in our house. He sits on our chest, our shoulders, our legs..wherever he wants as long as he is touching one of us that’s where u will find him.at all times. And at bed time he stands in front of the bedroom door and growls and barks or whimpers until one of us goes.to bed. You see because our dog has given himself his own bed time and if we aren’t ready for.bed and he is it is all about Baileys temper tantrums and he gets up and sits in our faces and huff and puffs with aggravation until we give in and go.to bed. Where he gets up in one of our beds and nudges his way under the covers where he can be warm and if he has his way he also.sleeps with a pillow..Once he is under the covers he wedges his way between the two of us because we are part of his pack ya know..oh yes Jihad as I have nicknamed him terrorizes me and my wife. We cannot touch each other he is right there and god.forbid we give each other a kiss..he is right up on our chests and in our faces because there will be no kissing unless he is getting the kisses. We have gotten ourselves a dog that is permanently stuck in his terrible twos. But it’s ok he has become or should I say we have become his children’ and he is very much in control and running the house. He is.the 3rd person in our house and he sure enough let’s everyone know this. I’ve never been a dog person and I told.my wife when she sent me pictures of this little 2 pd pup she saved from the pet store I told.her to take.him back..well like Bailey my wife has a hearing problem.and discipline problems ..they are like mother like son..they hear what im.saying and do.whatever they want..Needless to say bailey came home with cathy that day and because she worked 14 hrs a day at the time sometimes she would be gone 16 hrs a day..guess who got a new puppy that needed a mommy and 24 hr attention to be trained. Yes that would be me ..somehow the one person who was not an animal lover ended up with a son. He became my dog all day and most of.the night until cathy got home and then he went in and would nudge his way into the bed and sleep on her chest or next to her leg as long as his one paw could be over her he was food. Then back to bed with me at 7 am.when she would get up.for work.because like he has a bed time..he has a time to get up. Also and if you wake him up before he’s ready your in as about as much trouble as u are when u don’t go to.bed when he is ready. And let’s not forget the rub me mommy. And he is just like a child when he wants his head bavk.and legs tickled or.rubbed..He will sit and flip and scratch at u if u only use one hand is a.no..no. He is to be rubbed with both hands. Bailey is the king of his castle and as much as I’ve grown to love him and dont know what I would.do.without him. He has me wrapped around his little paw and he has shown me who is in charge of.who. Love that little yorkiepoo I told her to take.back.to the pound 3 years ago.
I adopted a male dachshund mix that I named Toby. I know Toby picked me cuz it was love at 1st sight. When Toby was about a yr old, a friend brought me a 1 day old kitten that I named Tyler. I only had to bottle feed Tyler and Toby took over from there. He cleaned Tyler, kept him warm and socialized him. We were a very close family of 3 and looked out for each other.
My dog looks like “Toothless or Midnight Fury” from How to tame your Dragon, he chuckles the same, I adore my little fat pug.
My 12 yr old terrier mix and 6 yr old morkie (Maltese/yorkie) howl together like they are singing when we drive up in the driveway and continue until we are in the door. Then they run around all excited. My morkie wants to be held and will actually pull back his lips and show his teeth in a huge smile for me. We recently added a 6 yr old yorkie female puppy mill rescue to our family. She was so abused that she wouldn’t look anyone in the eyes and wasn’t even sure what to make of grass. In the past few weeks she started having constant eye contact with me and actually gallops with excitement.
My dog literally rolls in me as soon as i sit on the couch every night. He doesn’t do this to anyone else. He lays on my lap rolls around, stares into my eyes for at least10 second then gives me a big kiss on the lips. Its our nightly routine.
Amazing…..I have 2 stories. One a little sad though. First, my daughter, (Chihuahua), named Candice but since the day I brought her home, for some strange reason, I called her my lil’ “TootiePooh”….that stuck and now, for seven year’s, she’s known and called by all, TootiePooh. My baby gurl does 2 adorable signs of love….first, since a pup….she stops and stares at me, puts her ears back, tilts her head back and to the left, with one eye focused on me, she gives the biggest heartfelt grin that turns into a huge smile….like her heart is melting. I know mine is. Then in moments of excitement or when I come home, she smiles/laughs so big and so much, that her body goes sideways and her lips/nose crinkle so much, she can’t stop sneezing….it’s the most precious. We both know we’re loved! Secondly, I had a boxer/lab mix, named Cheyenne…..her devotion and love was like none other. She saved my life! She was older, and I had been sick for a while. Like all my dogs (children), they sleep with their daddy. For a couple months, she had been sleeping on the floor, by her choice….the vet said it was cooler for her and easy on her joints. For some reason this night she jumped onto the bed and almost guarded me like. It was a good thing. I had stopped breathing and I awoke too family and paramedics…she had thrown her body on top of my chest, liking my face, kneed in my heart and yelping for help towards downstairs. She liked my face vigorously and wagged her tail as they took me to the hospital. I was admitted and there in ICU for 4 weeks. I spoke with my mom and to Cheyenne nightly. The evening I got home, she met me at the stairs……gave me big kisses, then lyed down with a smile and took her last breath. I was devastated and still am, crying everytime I speak of it. She saved my life and waited for her daddy to get home to make sure I was ok and kiss me goodbye….that was ultimate love!
I give my fur baby mini wheats for treats. She loves them! Definitely nothing to worry about with mini wheats like other store bought dog treats. No listeria, no salmonella.
When I return from a trip my dog is usually in my bed rubbing her back all over the bedspread. If I kneel down and tell her I missed her too she nips the end of my nose (sometimes it hurts) I also find that if I am laying on the floor she will walk by and just press her nose against me quickly as she walks by.
I always thought she was telling me I was part of her family.
I may be wrong and she just might like to rub her smell on my bed, bite my nose and she is trying to tell me I stink by rubbing her nose in passing.
My lab did all of the things listed, and he not only would get upset when I was leaving the house he would literally try to stop me. He would jump on me sometimes bite my pants and pull me, without hurting me. But the one thing he always did was he would lay his body across my lap with his hind legs on the floor and lay is head over my my shoulder it was the sweetest thing. I lost my sweet baby almost a year ago to bone cancer, miss him so much
I have an 8 1/2 year old Lab/Chessie mix. She wiggles from the shoulders back when I get home, routinely drops her toys in my lap, is very careful with me when we play that 300th round of tug o’ war (I broke my arm a few years back and she knows which one is weak) and just gazes into my eyes. Someone mentioned the come to bed trick; the dog goes up and lies down and then barks for me to come to bed as well and always comes to me for a quick snuggle and goodnight kiss to my hand before going to her corner of the bed. She has done that since I got her at 9 months old.
We have an American Eskimo, he is so soft and fluffy. Living in the south we get tornado warnings each year and have a safe room we go too. Usually it is raining with lightning and thunder, we bring our pets with us. Now when we get loud thunder our dog is always first to the shelter. Looks like he will be fine is one comes :)
My Yellow Lab Sarge used to touch my hand ever so lightly with his moist noise every morning as I’d close the gate to leave for work.
My chi usually yawns and then makes me yawn.
What happened to all the cute stuff you dogs do? In my opinion I believe all dogs react different to different things. Depends not only on the breed but the bloodline and other things in that specific dog. I have 9 dogs. All different breeds and sizes. One of them gets sick on greenies while one of the other gets sick on rawhide. I have another that eats her hair off her entire body if she eats wheat and and another that throws up everything she eats any prdigree product. And my sister lost a dog when she ate purine benefit but her other three dogs ate out of the same bowl and never showed any signs of sickness. I am starting to think it’s not the products but the blood line or something in that particular dog that gets sick on certain things.
While getting scratched on her head & around her ears, if u stop suddenly, she will lower her head & place it under ur hand, telling you to continue. Demanding like a cat in a sense…lol! She loves us. P.S. Shes a pit bull red nose mix w/blue. Not vicious @ all. Loves on anyone that we allow walk through the door.
My dog smiles when I come home. It looks kinda like he’s growling because the sides of his snout go up but he not making the growling noise. He’s actually smiling. He also wiggles his behind when he’s excited. I love my Aussie Elvis and I don’t care what anyone says he is human and has more empathy and common sense than many humans I know. Don’t know what I’m gonna do when he’s gone because he’s one of a kind!!!
My dog smiles all the time!!! He’s a “Life is Good” pup! Plus he LOVES to cuddle! Every morning he crawls between me & my husband and we cuddle for at least 15-20 minutes!!! Lol, he’s a 90lb. Akita!!!! He’s our baby for sure!!!!
I have a red nose pitbull who just turned 1. I actually came across this page because I think she hugs me and I was trying to research if this is possible. I love her very very much and she knows it….when I sit on my couch she sits next to me, puts her head down a bit and holds it against my chest. I’ve paid attention to this to make sure I’m not nuts….. and she does it often! It’s in such a loving manner, I always hug her back!! Has anybody else’s dog done this???
whenever I sit on the couch or lay down to watch tv, my shih Tzu, Penny comes and rubs her face all over my face, sometimes to the point that I can’t breathe!!
We have a red nosed pitbull, that my son rescued, when he was 10 mon the old. His name is Chico. He was abused, underfed, cover in his own feces, and left out in the cold. Well we fixed him all up, fed him good, and now he’s an inside dog. It’s amazing how gentle he is. No aggressive behavior at all. He thinks everyone he meets should give him affection. Well he figured out that by licking my 3 year old grandson, that he can make you laugh. So, now he likes to make us all laugh. And the more we laugh the sillier he gets. He has his forever home.
i had the best thing ever happen to me the other day my little scooby came over to me while i was crying and he sat on my lap and nudged my hand so i go to pet him and i see that he is also crying it was sad but so sweet
I lost my husband of 54 years 5 years ago, two months later I lost my little poodle.
We loved her so much and she loved us too. When my daughter mentioned I needed a
Little companion…..I just couldn’t, see another puppy taking my little poodle place
In my heart. She bought me a little yorkie anyway. This little angel has been the love of my life
ever since. She has been by my side every day and helped me through some difficult times
with depression.
Anyone that doesn’t have a doggie……just don’t know the love they are missing. I truly
feel sorry for them.
I have the silliest Great Dane ever. We have had many Danes, but Memo is by far the biggest at 175 #’s and 40″ at the shoulders. He is also Mr. Personality! He talks by grunt-growling. In the morning I find him usually the length of my right side, facing away from me, paws sticking straight out off the side of the king size bed. When he senses that I am awake, he turns his massive head and looks at me upside-down. Those big jowls flopping. He is a Harlequin and he loves it when I “count” his spots. Probably because he is getting an all over spot massage! He is my baby, and he is so full of love. Sometimes his exuberance can be dangerous, his tail is a wicked whip! He head butts me in the stomach for an ear rub, which has pushed me into a wall or two. But he knew to be gentle after my hip replacement. No pushing, more soft nosing instead of head butts. Each of my pets have been special. Our previous Dane before Memo – Huckleberry Blue (he was a blue) died in my arms. I felt him trying to get on the bed and I woke and helped him up, we laid together and I stroked his silky ears and pressed my ear to his massive chest, he pushed back against me, howled and was gone mid howl. He was 8, they don’t live long, but he was healthy and playing in the yard just that day. We believe is was his heart. I am consoled knowing my boy wanted to be with me as he left this earth. I still remember my sorrow. Needless to say, Memo cannot erase the loss of Huck, but he does bring a whole new light to my life! Dogs, cats, any pet can be a beautiful addition to your life.
What wonderful memories you have. I think everyone love all of the dogs that they have had in their lives. But, one or two will stand out and tug at our hearts a little bit more then others. All dog lovers have been bless with the love of their animals. I know I have been.
Many years ago I adopted a Japanese Chin puppy. At first she was frightened of everything, but soon learned to love and trust us. We named her Amy. At that time I was having severe migraines. Amy would get up on my bed and gently sniff my head and face. She would then zero in on the part that hurt. She would then constantly lick that spot, determined to lick my pain away. She has been gone now for over ten years and I still miss her everyday.
I have any many pets over the years that have lived long happy lives I hope and whenever I lose one I say to myself no more, it hurts too much, but when you walk in that front door and all those barks, cries, jumping on you and yes, those million kisses aren’t there you miss it, so there I go and adopt again. They bring much love into ones life.
i know my girl loves me as much as i love her, when i get home , she actually howls and we have this thing that may be silly to someone else but it’ s something we started when she was just a pup and i realized that she was howlin, when i get home she will lick me and howl and i will howl with her and it makes her howl even more lol i think she is telling me how much she misses me and that she loves me and happy im home . i love my baby girl she is a chiweenie she has my heart for ever, and she is spoiled rotten.
My chuy mix and lab/plott hound mix can tell when I’m about to have a panic attack and they come snuggle me until it passes. If that ain’t love, I don’t know what is. Neither if them are trained to do it, it’s just their instinct born out of our strong bond! I live my shelter pups!
My Sheltie use to go and check to make sure everyone was in bed before she did. Kisses is also another sign of love. She was also protective of my 2 sons. When a coyote was in the back yard she held her position in front of my son till he went to the front and then she moved. They may have big loud barks but the love is always bigger.
I have no doubt that my dogs love me. I love them to the moon and back as well. What is interesting to me is just how JEALOUS our dogs are of each other. This, from three liter mates who had the same parents. They will growl at each other when we love on them. We tell them, “There is plenty to go around…” And Yet, they don’t believe us. However, let one of them get sick and the other two want to be “right there”. Then, there is no growling just a very concerned Sister who lays by the hurt one. I have had dogs be so protective of each other at the Veterinarian’s office, I warn the Vet that they can give the shot to the first dog but beware when they give the shot to their “adopted Sister (or) Brother” as they are their self proclaimed protectors. I always find it fascinating just how protective they are not only of us but of each other! DOG spelled backward is still human’s best friend. Both are all about LOVE!
My retriever/shepard mix Mileena brings me pinecones every single time I let her out. She goes out and does her thing, picks up a pine cone, and comes inside. She’s even brought me a lizzard once… Let’s just say I brushed her teeth after that one.
My dog always freaks out when we come home. She jumps around wagging her tail like crazy. She yawns when it is bedtime with us.
I had by buddy named Forest he was the alpha cat in our house. He would always protect the other cats if he felt danger was near by. I was alwas having abdominal pain, this was going on for years. He would always come over and be my heating pad. He always knew where not to step and where I needed the heat. I was devistated when I found out he had a rare type of feline cancer. I wished I could do for him what he had always done for me.
My trap literally jumped up and down and skips around the house when I get home , he’s a rescue dog Partech and hot chocolate lab and he’s very very precious to me
My little Scottie loves when I lay down on the floor on my back and she just gives me sweet kisses all over my face. Then I get on my hands and knees and we play. She also has to snuggle up next to me in bed which is just so comforting. If I cough or sneeze she will come running to me and looks at me as of to say “are you OK mommy?” She is the most sweetest, loving dog that anyone could ask for and at 12+ she’ll always be my “puppy.” If that isn’t love, I don’t know what is!
My dog Metro shows his Love when I go to lay in bed he moves his little body so he is close to me looking in my eyes then he places his paw on my face just lying there and watching me. It made me cry. I love my Metro I thank God for him each day….
My female Chihuahuas show me in their own way one will get on my shoulder while sitting in the chair and she will lay her head over in my cheek as fib
My 3 female Chihuahuas show me in their own way one will get on my shoulder while sitting in the chair and she will lay her head on my cheek and give me a hug the other one will get close to me in bed and snuggle the other one will spoon me and put her paws under my head their all so special to me and I show them unconditional love as they show me
We have 3 dogs who are all mutts/mix. The girls are twins. Daisy is more wiener Minnie it’s more Beagle. Daisy is my dog, by her own voice. She attached to me more than the rest of the family. I can tell she loves me by how protective she is. She loves to snuggle and be next to me but always with her head away from me. This used to annoy me as I thought she was giving me the “cold shoulder” so to speak by showing me her butt. Then I realized she is guarding me. She always faces the door and even sound asleep she is alert to any unusual noise or anyone coming in the door. She lays between me and my husband in our chairs with her head in my lap and she will not let me go to bed without her. She sleeps in hubby’s spot until he comes to bed. Then they “argue” over who’s bed it is. She also gives me big toothy smiles when I wrestle with her. Her sister is more laid back and just sweet. She will take any affection she can get whenever she can get it, which is constantly. Now, both of these girls are under 50lbs. My daughter’s dog is a different story altogether. He is half lab, half red-nose Pitt. He is well over 100 lbs and not done growing. He also thinks he is a lap dog and loves to be on top of whoever will let him. I had a rule of no pitt bulls in my house because I don’t trust them. I still have my reservations and almost made her get rid of him when she brought him home. I’m glad my husband talked me into letting him stay. He’s a blessing. his name is Sinbad but he is also affectionately known as Dumb@$$ Dave because he is so stubborn he comes across as stupid, Junkyard because he likes “helping” my husband work on vehicles in the back yard, and most recently, Tiny the Demon Clydesdale because he is as big as a house and gave me a lump on the eyebrow with his knee during a wrestling match. We are also blessed with 2 housecats, a very big polydactyl and a very small Cali, and a feral cat who lives outside the garage (by her choice…. she hates it in the house). when I get home each day the front door is open and the glass door is closed. I am greeted by 3 very wiggly pups and a fat cat looking at me like “what took you so long” all crowded at the door. I love my fur babies.
Horse. He’s as big as a horse.
Every night after mealtime, my rescue shizhu/yorkie mix comes up to me and burps. Its her way of saying thanks for dinner mom. If I give her an especially good evening treat she will burp again. she also stays up late at night with me during my bouts of insomnia, patiently waiting while begging me with her eyes to just go to bed. I adore her. She really rescued me.
I have 2 boys who I rescued 6 years ago. My big one, a great dane mix, will try to sit on my lap. It’s sweet and all, but OUCH! He will also sit with his back turned to me, scoot as close as possible and turn his head around to look at me. My smaller one, a red wheeler mix, is always next to me. No matter where I go in my house, he’s always there. He waits outside the bathroom door for me and is my shadow. Both are the most cuddly dogs I’ve ever owned. When I give them a good pet, it’s like they celebrate by running off and playing together. It’s so cute! If my voice is heard, they come running to see me. I love them dearly!
When me, my husband or our kids walk in the door from being gone for awhile our dog scout who’s part bulldog and part dachshund smiles at us like really smiles showing all his teeth and jumps around like crazy and kisses whoever it is. It’s the cutest thing.
Happy to read that there are so many
Animal Lovers. I wonder sometimes if they are the only ones who probably contribute to Animal Charities. As we all know They need money desperately . Even a couple dollars would add up for them if we all contributed. Animals deserve it and it will help so much the organizations who are directly involved. It kills me to see their sad little faces on TV and the jerks who hurt them. Thats all I wanted to say, so continue with your stories. So nice there are so many compassionate animal lovers and enjoy reading happy stories for a change.
We always try and save a life by going to the humane society or the pound. In 2014 I put down my 14 year old mix pit-bull. He loved me so much that when I did let him on the bed he would go to my husband’s pillow and rub himself all over it. Then he would get up and lay by me. One time he even hugged me and pulled me close to him. When we went to put him down he laid on my foot tell he went to sleep. I cried and cried.
We have other dogs now and they have their own way of showing love to us. Once they left a dead mouse in front of the back door. We were sure to thank them for it and when they were not looking we disposed of it.
I truly love all the dogs that we have had over the years. But, Stonewall Jackson (stone for short) will always be my mine. I miss all of you baby’s
My 160 lb newfoundland leans against me and sits on my foot.
My Black Lab (120 lbs) jumps on the bed and lays beside me with his head on my shoulder and My Shih Tzu lays on the other side between my arm and my ribs. Really nice, except the Lab snores.
Can’t forget my other two dogs. My Keeshond/Black Lab gently paws at my arm when it’s time to get up or go outside. My Swiss Mountain Dog (144 lbs.), (like a Bernese, but has short hair like a lab) thinks he’s a tank and loves to nudge me with his head like he’s trying to push me over–loves playing tug-o-war.
My wife and I have 30 of these four legged rug rats and let me tell you they are our whole world. The emotions that they share with us and each other blow us away daily. The love in their eyes when we play is beyond comprehension it is so cool. Each one of them were rescued, two are death, one has three legs, one is blind, two were used for fighting and so on. We don’t have a boat or RV but rather 30 warm beating hearts whom all mean the world to us. Adopt a rescue pet today! Regards
Deaf, not “death”. Sheesh.
All these stories remind me of what my dad told me when he brought home my first puppy. God created dogs as an example of what He wanted us to be like and cats to show us how we really are.
I have 2 rescue Chihuahuas and they are so thrilled when I get home, they jump, squeal, lick and chew on my fingers. They love to snuggle and cannot/will not leave my side, even when I’m in the bathroom. They are extremely loving and licking and very expressive with their eyes. They love attention, walks, snuggling and kids, and once they know you, they are very affectionate and loyal.
I had a male Chihuahua pee on my leg, he also never left my site when I was bedridden my husband would have to pick him up and put outside when he came home, a female who bite anyone getting close to me. all our dogs go crazy when my huband comes home, thers wiggling, running and slidding down the hall, and lots of talking. last year someone threw out to lg. breed males that had been badly abused and shot little by little they adopted me one stares goofily and talks, the other has to be with me always, hes stares at me mooningly all day and I have a Brussels griffon female who almost died because I wasn’t home, my husband had to take her in, then pouted when I got home. she always has to hug my neck, stare into my eyes, and rub her face on mine, but I always have to ask for a kiss, shes stingy with those
I love reading everyone’s stories (some are a little difficult due to wording being a little off, but I get it–NOT meant to be mean). I have a Westie named Creighton, who is the love of my life. When I get home from work he’s up on his back feet, dancing, smiling and waging his tail. He follows me everywhere, sleeps touching my back or at the bend of my knee. Both of my dogs know when I’m crying and will stare until my Westie tries to lick my tears. As with all of you and your stories about your babies, dogs are the most wonderful gift ever. I didn’t grow up with animals but could never, ever live without my dogs now. We are all blessed to have such wonderful creatures in our lives. Hug and love them everyday!!!!!!
My little Katie, shows her love for me often. When I say, “Katie, I need a hug”, she stops whatever she is doing and comes running to put one paw on each side of my neck and snuggles up to me. Melts my heart. At oyhet times, when she is gazing directly into my eyes, I will wink at her. She ALWAYS winks back with the eye that aligns with the one I winked with. (My left – her right. . Or vice versus.) When I return home she jumps into my arms when I bend down to greet her and she hugs and kisses me until I put her down. When we travel in the car, she sets in her car seat, with her seat belt fastened and keeps a close eye on me or the road until she nids off (lol). She is a rescue CKCS that I adopted from Little White Dog Animal rescue in Omaha. I not only have heart, but she has mine.
I have 8 rescue dogs and 9 rescue cats, and love every one. They all have their own personalities and idiosyncrasies. But this story is about my African Gray. I got her when she was a month old and raised her. She is now 16. Every night I tell her night night and she says it too, but never says I love you when I tell her I love her. But my oldest son died unexpectedly and and one day I was walking through the living room crying. She said to me, “Grandma.” I said “what”, and she said, “I love you”. Talk about understanding and good timing.
What I was going to contribute pretty much went along with all the lovely, awesome, so special behaviors listed above. I will only add, shame on you who play mind games with animals that give their total love so freely. Read up on animal behavior, educate yourselves! Try to find the video, “Living with Wolves” it will amaze you, and prove that dogs do come from the wolf family and have their strengths even today. If you want to play hide n’ seek, get a dog whistle that is a pitch only they can hear, then hide, and blow it just once or twice..they will seek, until they find you and they love it. We also use the whistle for a safety reason; should our dog(s) get separated from us in the woods, they hear it from very far, and come running, if you stay in one place and don’t confuse them by moving around. Most dogs that end up with serious psychotic problems learned them from their psychotic owners. Just like children they learn what they live with. Lastly, if you are blessed to have a dog that feels your pain, your joy, and lives only to please you, you should feel honored for that gift from one of God’s creatures. If your dog shows an obvious strong, preferential attachment to you, over everyone in the family, you have what is referred to in the dog lover’s world, a “Heart Dog”. He/ she may love the entire family, but you have their heart. Count yourself blessed, for you may never have another. Those of you who have had a heart dog, you will know what I mean. My family has shared our lives with 14 dogs over 48 years, and four became my Heart Dogs. ( this favor cannot be encouraged or trained, it comes from the animal’s heart to your heart) . It is a special, incredible bond and you will know when you have been so honored. This is a true, special bond, and I may be laughed at or ridiculed by following comments. So be it. Be careful. If you have not had a Heart Dog, that doesn’t mean they don’t exist. Don’t ridicule something you know nothing about. Again, try to find a copy of “Living With Wolves”, which was a TV documentary. You will have a whole new understanding on dog behavior and a whole new understanding on why our domesticated dogs behave the way they do.
My little girl would run in small circles and invariably lose a bit of bladder control, lol.
I assume we’re talking about a dog, and not your daughter. LOL
When I was a kid, we had a toy poodle. She’d go absolutely bonkers when my grandparents would come over. She’d curve her back so that her head was angled towards her rear end, be wiggling, and moving forward all at the same time. How she did that, I’ll never know. Then she’d lay down and roll over onto her back to be scratched. And as much as she adored my grandparents, she absolutely hated my dad’s creepy friend. I think animals are good barometers of who is trustworthy, and who ISN’T.
My small dog will grin at me when I ask him to and if I ask him if he loves me he will put his forehead against my chin and Press really hard.
I’m disabled and am easily fall. And I have two big, rambunctious pit bulls. When I get home, the are so excited but know they have to be careful, so they race from one end of the house to the other a couple of times. Then they stop in front of me trembling with excitement. It doesn’t matter if I’ve been gone an hour or a week.
They also wake me at sunrise every morning. As soon. As the sky starts to get light, I get a bully-tongue facial. They don’t stop until I sit up. I’ve trained them to help me up when I fall, and pick up things when I drop them. But they refuse to touch my cell phone because I yelled once, just once over a year ago, when Honey bit it a little too hard and punctured the screen.
