“Wendy was so wonderful! Absolutely so kind and easy to communicate with. Batman was so comfortable and at ease at her place. 100/10 would recommend:) her and her family were so friendly. She took great photos and kept us up to date!”

“Words can't describe how awesome my experience was putting the care of my puppy in Zack's hands. As soon as I drop them off, he felt so at home, and it was clear to see that my puppy will be in good hands!! When picking him up, he was in a great mood! I brought him home, and he fell as straight to sleep. Zach's dogs played so well with Carmelo, and I look forward to setting up another time for him to spend the day with them! I look forward to the next play date Zach's house with his dogs, and I recommend anyone ,who wants their dog to be in great hands to choose him as a handler.”

About: My name is Justin, and my life has always been enriched by the love and joy that animals bring, especially dogs. Their simplicity is inspiring – all they require is food, a safe haven, regular exercise, and a generous dose of love and affection. Throughout my life, I've discovered that I have a unique knack for forming deep, empathetic connections with dogs. I understand that entering a new environment can be a daunting experience, for humans and dogs alike. I'm here to make this transition as smooth and stress-free as possible for your beloved pet. My own golden retriever, Phoebe, is just over a year old, and she has further deepened my appreciation for the unique bond we share with our pets. Phoebe has taught me the importance of patience, understanding, and companionship in pet care, and I strive to extend the same love and affection to every dog I care for. When your dog comes to stay with me, they become a part of my family. I treat them exactly how I would want Phoebe to be treated - with respect, kindness, and lots of belly rubs! I'm not in this business for the money. My primary goal is to provide a safe, warm, and loving environment for your pet. To ensure that I can give each dog the attention and care they deserve, I limit the number of dogs I board to just one at a time. This approach also allows me to seamlessly incorporate them into my daily routine with Phoebe. I'm excited to meet your furry friend and provide them with a home away from home! My Pet Care Routine As a work-from-home professional, I have the privilege of spending a lot of quality time with my pets. My active lifestyle and daily routine are designed around my vibrant golden retriever, Phoebe, who thrives on exercise and loves exploring our neighborhood. Should your dog stay with us, they will seamlessly be incorporated into our dynamic daily routine. A Typical Day Our day starts bright and early around 7 am with a restroom break, followed by breakfast. We then set out for a 30-minute morning stroll to Washington Square Park. This walk is a fantastic opportunity for your pet to expend some of their morning energy (and it's usually a good time for a second potty break, too). Once we return home, there's a relaxation period where I work and the dogs can rest, play or keep me company. I intentionally block out my calendar from 11 am to 1 pm on weekdays for a lunch break and a longer walk. Depending on the day, we might visit Francisco Park, Aquatic Cove, or trek up to Coit Tower – all within walking distance from our home. After our midday adventure, we return home for some more work and relaxation, followed by another walk around Washington Square Park at around 5 pm. This is a great opportunity for your dog to socialize with some of our local canine friends. Following our evening walk, we head home for dinner and a quick 15-minute potty walk. For those dogs with a bit more energy to burn, we also offer a late-night stroll around 9:30/10 pm. Weekends and Adventures Phoebe is a high-energy dog, so incorporating your pup into this exercise-intensive routine is no burden at all. In fact, it's our pleasure. On weekends (and sometimes weekdays), we like to add 1-2 hiking adventures to our schedule. I firmly believe that a consistent routine provides comfort and security for dogs. I also subscribe to the mantra that a well-behaved dog is a tired dog. Therefore, keeping them active plays a significant role in my strategy to avoid problematic behavior and ensure a happy, well-adjusted pup. Safety, Trust, and Environment Ensuring the safety, comfort, and happiness of your dog is my top priority. I've designed my living space with that in mind, taking every precaution to create a safe and welcoming environment that your pet will love to call their temporary home. Space and Location I live in a spacious 1000 sq ft apartment with a fenced backyard, perfect for playtime and fresh air. We are conveniently located just two blocks away from Washington Square Park, a fantastic spot for daily walks and socializing with other dogs. Additionally, we regularly visit fenced dog parks to provide a fun and safe environment for your dog to run and play. Active Lifestyle As an active individual, I love incorporating dogs into my lifestyle. Whether it's a simple walk in the park or a hiking adventure, your dog will have plenty of opportunities for exercise and exploration. My golden retriever, Phoebe, and 1-2 other pups often accompany me on these outings, making for a fun, social experience for your pet. Doggy Areas Inside my home, I have two enclosed "doggy areas", each equipped with a comfortable dog bed, food, and water bowl. These areas are separated by baby gates to ensure each dog has their own space and can feel safe and secure. Feeding Time I'm well aware that dogs can sometimes become protective over their food. To prevent any potential conflict, I always feed dogs separately in their designated areas. This method not only helps maintain harmony among our furry guests but also allows me to monitor your dog's eating habits closely, ensuring they are eating normally and maintaining a healthy diet. Pet-Friendly Home My home is a paradise for dogs! I believe in creating a comfortable and relaxed environment for all my furry guests. Dogs are welcome on the furniture here, so whether your pet loves curling up on the couch or sprawling out on a comfy chair, they will feel right at home. Of course, accidents can happen - especially when pets are in a new environment. But don't worry, I am fully equipped to handle such situations. I have all the necessary cleaning supplies on hand to promptly and efficiently deal with any messes, ensuring that the living space remains clean and comfortable for your pet. Transportation and Adventures For those dogs that love a change of scenery, I have a pet-friendly 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan parked in my building, complete with doggy seatbelts for safe and secure travel. If you're comfortable with it, I love taking the pups on hiking adventures in the surrounding area. I ensure that these trips are never more than an hour away, and they provide a fantastic opportunity for your dog to explore new environments and expend some energy! Rest assured, your pet's safety is always my number one concern during these fun outings. Philosophy on Training / Handling Problem Behavior While I take a lot of effort to avoid and problems - we all know that sometimes, shit happens. I don’t believe in any punitive or negative reactions to such behavior - it either exacerbates the anxiety/trigger that caused it, and doesn’t do much to teach them anything. I have separate spaces in my home for a reason to account for this, and will give your doggo plenty of love to put them at ease. I will promptly let any owner about problem behavior - what happened, what I believe caused it, and how I am currently remedying it. I’m very patient with dogs, and haven’t run into a situation I haven’t been able to remedy. If your dog is a rescue with social anxiety, I tend to form a lot of trust with these pups with this approach. With rescue dogs, I view things from the dog’s perspective - any view a lot of their trepidation / behavior as a direct result of what humans did (or didn’t) do for them. I approach these dogs with the utmost care and patience when forming a bond to let them know I’m someone I can trust, and that it’s on their terms. I have a special place in my heart for these pups, so if you have a rescue that’s shy, please don’t be shy in booking!
About: I've been an animal lover and owner of cats and dogs my whole life. While in college, I worked at a veterinarian's office just to be around pets, and it was the most rewarding and fun job I ever had! I lost my beloved Cavalier two years ago and miss him dearly, but I'm not ready to own again. I really miss having a pet companion and have lots of love to share with your pets. I live next door to a park, and our neighborhood is perfect for walking and meeting other pets. My home is spacious and clean with a fenced back yard. I will love and care for your pet as my own!! I am home every day. I like to get outside as much as possible to garden or walk around my neighborhood, so I would love to have a pet companion with me! I have a fenced back yard and a spacious home. I live adjacent to our neighborhood park which is perfect for playing with and walking pets.
“She (and her family) were so awesome! I booked same day and she was so accommodating for the day care. Even though it was only for four hours I got consistent updates and pictures and I wasn't worried for a second about Lucha.”

“Dustin is amazing - he has been helping us train our very excitable and highly energetic dog with great results so far. He has a ton of experience and is great with daycare, boarding and training! Would highly recommend him.”

“Linda is fantastic!! She is a miracle worker with our dog Cloe, who normally isn’t very social and doesn’t eat while we are away. But Linda got her eating and playing with other dogs and she was so happy! We will definitely be going back!”

“Our pup had the best day with Esther! He loved playing in her huge fenced-in yard and socializing with other pups. He is extremely energetic and slept the whole evening after returning home. We are looking forward to continuing daycare with Esther!”

About: I’ve always had a special love for dogs and truly enjoy caring for them as if they were my own. I’m patient, responsible, attentive, and affectionate. I understand how important it is to find someone you can trust with your pet, and I’ll make sure they feel safe, loved, comfortable, and well cared for while they’re with me. I’m happy to provide walks, playtime, feeding, cuddles, and lots of attention! 🐶🤍 I am currently working from home, which gives me plenty of flexibility and time to care for your pets. I’m able to provide lots of attention, and companionship throughout the day. Your pup will never feel alone. I live in a comfortable, pet-friendly apartment complex with plenty of outdoor space for walks and a dog park in the community. I can provide frequent walks, potty breaks throughout the day.
About: I recently got married and moved to the area. I’m a Virginia tech animal science grad. I have worked in a boarding and daycare facility the past 2 years. I also have some dog training experience from college and in the kennel facility. Upon request I can offer training sessions for your pups. I recently moved to the area and still looking for a job that’s a good fit for me. In the meantime your pups will have all my free time! I have plenty of experience working with all types of dogs, including ones that are nervous greeters, food aggressive, barrier reactivity, leash reactivity and more. I understand every dog is different and will always work to make your dog comfortable in any environment. Big advocate for always having treats on hand and reading their body language at every interaction.
“David is truly amazing! We needed a sitter for our pup at the last minute so I went on Rover and was impressed with David’s profile and reviews. I contacted him and he responded right away. We needed a 5am drop off and he was totally accommodating. Oz spent the day playing with David’s pups and was so happy when we picked him up. David communicated with me during the day to put me at ease and I appreciated that. You know how dog mama’s are lol. We had a great experience and will definitely rebook with him many times in the future.”

About: Hello! My name is Danielle and I've been caring for pets my entire life! I have been raising, training, and pampering my own babies for the past 10 years and providing local services to friends and neighbors. I'm highly experienced with all dog sizes, especially giant breeds (the bigger the better!). I can provide boarding, sitting, training, walking, grooming, specialized feeding, medication administering, and even first-aid if needed. I even have experience with pet hospice care through a local shelter. A little more about me personally: I have 3 dogs, including 2 Great Danes and a Golden Retriever. I also have 3 very demanding cats. So you know I'm well-versed in handling the crazy, and will treat your baby just like my own! Pets are the center of my world and yours will be too. I work from home and can provide round-the-clock care and attention during boarding and daycare. I'm currently working part time and looking for additional pet care opportunities to fill my days, since it's something I truly enjoy doing. I have a large house with gated rooms for separation, medium and giant sized crates if needed, and a large backyard with a 6 foot brand-new fence. The upstairs is gated off for the cats' comfort (and so they can watch and judge from above). In my home, I allow animals on the furniture, unless you wish me to keep up with training that teaches them otherwise. And I have gated feeding areas and an entire pet first-aid cabinet in my kitchen for emergency situations. Water bowls are provided inside and out, and dogs are supervised when outside. In client homes, I like you to set the rules. I'm happy to go about treating your babies as I would in my own home, but if you have specifications you'd like me to follow, I'm more than happy to learn what those are and follow them for your needs.
“Benjamin had a great day with Janelle, and we were able to get out and take care of our business in Virginia Beach knowing that he was in a safe, loving environment. We will definitely book Janelle again!”

“My first rover experience! Landon was very accommodating, responsive (messaged back almost immediately whenever I contacted them), and put my mind at ease with their professionalism and sincerity- as it was my first time using Rover, and I was a bit nervous! My girl, Mochi, had a great time, and I was thankful she had a friend to play with, since she is made of pure energy, and I was grateful Landon would take her for the day since many Rover sitters don't watch dogs that are not yet fixed. Since Mochi is only 7 months old and not in heat, I had not yet spayed her, so I was glad (after an hour of searching) I found Landon! Thank you again for your communications, updates, and wearing my pup out!”

“Leila loves being in Michelle's home and loves playing with Ollie! Our meet and greet last week revalidated how gentle Leila is with toddlers. Great playful videos of my happy Gentle Giant. I would trust her with Leila anytime!”
“Michele was fantastic and my dog was so happy with her. She responded quickly and sent lots of wonderful updates of my happy dog. Will definitely be seeing her again for all my dog needs!”

“Lisa was amazing! Joey immediately took her and you can tell she is an all around dog lover. Throughout Joey’s stay, Lisa continued to provide updates and the most adorable pictures. We knew he was in good hands! Can’t wait to bring him back again soon. Thanks!”

“Melissa and Jeremy were excellent with my puppy. They were able to schedule and play day with him was short notice, and they followed all my expectations. My dog had a wonderful time with them and I will most definitely be scheduling another play date with them.”

Think of doggy day care as your dog’s fun, supervised play date that happens to fit into your workday. Day care through Rover takes place in a real home. This offers a calmer and more personalized environment for your pup.
A typical day can include companionship, one-on-one attention, and same day pick-up and drop-off. Many sitters can also offer structured routines and exercise throughout the day. For recurring, weekly day care, sitters will include photo updates so you can see your dog in their element.
Here are tips for finding the ideal day care fit for your dog:
- For some small dogs: In-home day care can be the perfect fit. Look for sitters whose "can host" section only lists dogs weighing 0–7 kilograms and/or 7–18 kilograms. During your Meet & Greet, ask about play areas based on dog size and energy level.
- For high-energy dogs: The ideal doggy day care can offer scheduled breaks and outdoor spaces or activities. You can also find sitters who host multiple dogs to satisfy your pup’s socializing needs.
- For dogs who prefer human-only companionship: Use the filters "Doesn't own a dog" and "Only accepts one pet at a time" to find the right care.
Play groups can be an option when you book with a day care sitter through Rover. Many sitters do host a small number of dogs at the same time. Smaller dog packs are generally safer, more fun, and ideal for dogs who enjoy playtime but also want to relax throughout the day. When looking for your dog’s pack, check the sitter’s profile to see if they "Accept multiple clients" or have their own dogs. Then during the Meet & Greet, you can see whether your dog is a good fit for their social circle!
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in VA ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your dog, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
