About: I've been an animal lover and owner of cats and dogs my whole life. While in college, I worked at a veterinarian's office just to be around pets, and it was the most rewarding and fun job I ever had! I lost my beloved Cavalier two years ago and miss him dearly, but I'm not ready to own again. I really miss having a pet companion and have lots of love to share with your pets. I live next door to a park, and our neighborhood is perfect for walking and meeting other pets. My home is spacious and clean with a fenced back yard. I will love and care for your pet as my own!! I am home every day. I like to get outside as much as possible to garden or walk around my neighborhood, so I would love to have a pet companion with me! I have a fenced back yard and a spacious home. I live adjacent to our neighborhood park which is perfect for playing with and walking pets.
“Kristynah is the best dog sitter anyone could ask for. Knowledgeable, extremely caring, and gives the best updates plus takes beautiful pictures of your pup. I love it when she is available to watch my puppy because I know he is in good hands. 10/10”

“Linda is fantastic!! She is a miracle worker with our dog Cloe, who normally isn’t very social and doesn’t eat while we are away. But Linda got her eating and playing with other dogs and she was so happy! We will definitely be going back!”

“My puppy had his first daycare day with Dustin. I like Dustin’s calm demeanor as well as his background of working with dogs. He proved his profile by teaching my puppy a leash manner. I can’t wait to see what my puppy will learn from him in the next few weeks!”

“Words can't describe how awesome my experience was putting the care of my puppy in Zack's hands. As soon as I drop them off, he felt so at home, and it was clear to see that my puppy will be in good hands!! When picking him up, he was in a great mood! I brought him home, and he fell as straight to sleep. Zach's dogs played so well with Carmelo, and I look forward to setting up another time for him to spend the day with them! I look forward to the next play date Zach's house with his dogs, and I recommend anyone ,who wants their dog to be in great hands to choose him as a handler.”

“Esther was great! She consistently sent me updates throughout the day to include pictures and videos! She was super flexible with pick up/drop off times. My dog came home tired after one day of play. Definitely plan to use her services again!”

“Janelle was amazing with our pups! We really felt comfortable dropping them off with her, she was really kind, and you could tell she was well experienced with dogs. Our boys seemed to have a great time and were tired when we got back home. I appreciated the photos and video updates as well!”

“Landon has been wonderful with our 2 corgis. We have sent them multiple times to doggy day care with him over the past year and they always have a blast. He is very responsive and has a great setup. Highly recommend him for services!”

About: I recently got married and moved to the area. I’m a Virginia tech animal science grad. I have worked in a boarding and daycare facility the past 2 years. I also have some dog training experience from college and in the kennel facility. Upon request I can offer training sessions for your pups. I recently moved to the area and still looking for a job that’s a good fit for me. In the meantime your pups will have all my free time! I have plenty of experience working with all types of dogs, including ones that are nervous greeters, food aggressive, barrier reactivity, leash reactivity and more. I understand every dog is different and will always work to make your dog comfortable in any environment. Big advocate for always having treats on hand and reading their body language at every interaction.
“Melissa is PHENOMENAL!!! A truly caring and dedicated sitter!! She was patient and kind and understands how much our baby means to us. To say she went above and beyond is a huge understatement!! I wish I could hire her full-time! Her baby Pappy is a huge cherry on top!! We are so happy!!”

“Michelle was great. She was ready for Daly to be dropped off. She kept me informed all day, with messages and photos. So I was totally at ease during the day. And she was ready to hand Daly back to me, with a summary of activities. I recommend her highly, and will gladly use her services again. Thanks, Michelle!”

“Rachel was great for keeping Georgie while we were away for a week. Georgie enjoyed the company of her four dogs and she made sure to introduce them each to Georgie in our meet up. Georgie enjoyed walks with her and her four babies as well as playtime in her fenced back yard! We will definitely use Rachel again.”

Think of doggy day care as your dog’s fun, supervised play date that happens to fit into your workday. Day care through Rover takes place in a real home. This offers a calmer and more personalized environment for your pup.
A typical day can include companionship, one-on-one attention, and same day pick-up and drop-off. Many sitters can also offer structured routines and exercise throughout the day. For recurring, weekly day care, sitters will include photo updates so you can see your dog in their element.
Here are tips for finding the ideal day care fit for your dog:
- For some small dogs: In-home day care can be the perfect fit. Look for sitters whose "can host" section only lists dogs weighing 0–7 kilograms and/or 7–18 kilograms. During your Meet & Greet, ask about play areas based on dog size and energy level.
- For high-energy dogs: The ideal doggy day care can offer scheduled breaks and outdoor spaces or activities. You can also find sitters who host multiple dogs to satisfy your pup’s socializing needs.
- For dogs who prefer human-only companionship: Use the filters "Doesn't own a dog" and "Only accepts one pet at a time" to find the right care.
Play groups can be an option when you book with a day care sitter through Rover. Many sitters do host a small number of dogs at the same time. Smaller dog packs are generally safer, more fun, and ideal for dogs who enjoy playtime but also want to relax throughout the day. When looking for your dog’s pack, check the sitter’s profile to see if they "Accept multiple clients" or have their own dogs. Then during the Meet & Greet, you can see whether your dog is a good fit for their social circle!
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in VA ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your dog, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
