“Katie did a great job caring for my dear cat, Sylvia. She handled all the feeding a cleanup tasks perfectly but also went above and beyond by trying to bond with Sylvia, sending me frequent updates with photos so I was always up to date. She even dealt with an issue with Sylvia’s water fountain very effectively. Highly recommended!”

“Maria was truly a blessing for us during our absence. She took excellent care of Chelsea every day, even during an ice storm, and then snow the following week. Her attention to detail and care were so appreciated. We will definitely be using her again.”

“Daniela was absolutely AMAZING! She was professional, timely, and caring. Daniela took great care of my 4 fur babies. She sent updates and pictures to keep me informed. My doggies loved her. I will surely use Daniela again in the future!!!”

“Highly recommend! We use Nicole for regular drop in visits and she is wonderful! Always prompt, very accommodating and flexible, professional, and of course great with my pup!”

“Ashley is amazing! She left me details about every visit and even helped when I had a leaky sink. I felt very comfortable going out of town and having her take care of my cat.”

“After 3 yrs using the same sitter I had to find a new one so of course there was some hesitation.. but rest assured Chelsea is amazing! I walked in & Hope looked displeased to see me back haha Thank you so much for taking such great care of her!”

“Kristin is everything you could ever ask for in a pet sitter and a whole lot more! She took care of our pets just like we do, and probably even better. We will be hiring Kristin every time we go away. Cannot recommend her enough.”

“Valerie was amazing with our dog, Guapo! She came by for two days, three times a day, to feed him, let him out, and spend quality time with him. She stayed as close to his regular schedule as possible, which we really appreciated because routine is important for Guapo. She was incredibly patient with him, especially since he’s very suspicious of new people and tends to bark until he realizes they’re friendly. Valerie even took the time to come meet him before her scheduled visits so he could get a little more comfortable with her. When we got home, Guapo was just as happy and content as when we left, which gave us so much peace of mind. Even with my landlord being a bit particular about parking, Valerie maintained excellent communication throughout the entire stay and handled everything professionally. We truly appreciate the care and attention she gave Guapo. We would absolutely book Valerie again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a caring, reliable pet sitter!”

“Alicia was an amazing pet sitter! She was on time every day and provided multiple pictures each day. I could tell she genuinely cared for my kitty. She even left me the most beautiful embroidery of my kitty. I will definitely be rebooking with Alicia in the future!”

About: I have walked several of my neighbors dogs and thought I would do this on the side. I am easy going and love walking dogs. Plus gives me exercise. We had a morkie for 8 years until he passed then we got Simba. We’ve had him for 3 years. I love dogs and will treat them like mine. I currently work full time 6-2:30. I am usually free after 2:30 but occasionally have easy days so I could walk your baby and hangout for a little bit. I do not have a fence but I am walking distance to the dog park. I have a mini golden doodle who is 3 years old and wide open. We love to go to the dog park in the summers.
About: I love love love DOGS, actually ALL animals. I have a very happy and spoiled fur baby. I’ve had dogs all my life along with turtles, a cat, Guinea pigs, and a ferret (coolest and most fun!) I have plenty of experience with senior dogs and administering medications and injections. I’m here to assist you and provide the best care to your pet while you’re away. I work from home so I’ll have plenty of time to love them, play with them, provide walks and potty breaks and whatever else they need. I will provide the best care and will love on your fur babies. Give me a chance and I promise you that you won’t be disappointed! I give plenty of love, belly rubs. care and attention. I like to ask about their normal every day schedule and what they’re used to so I can stick to the same as much as possible. I’m very protective with my dog and will make sure your pets are always safe. I can take up to 3 dogs but only if I’m confident that they would get along with each other. If you prefer that your baby only has one on one time, then let me know. I will send pictures and videos of your fur baby to let you know how they’re doing. I understand that as long as you know they are being cared for, you can enjoy your vacation without worry. My fur baby, Buddy is very friendly and likes to play but he does enjoy his sleep in his senior years. If he won’t play then I will step in. I like to think that when you’re on vacation so are they so you want them to have a good time also!
About: Hi! My name is Erika, and I have a dog of my own named Saint, who I’ve had the joy of having in my life for the past 3 years. Since I was a kid, I’ve always enjoyed spending time with animals, whether that means going for a walk, playing with their favorite toys, or relaxing together. I am experienced in pet sitting for 6 years. I’m happy to follow their usual routine and make sure they’re comfortable while you’re away. I’d love to get to know your pet and find out what they enjoy most! I’m currently a part-time college student but I have a pretty flexible schedule and lots of free time for pet care. Taking care of animals already fits naturally into my routine since I have a dog of my own, so I’m able to give pets plenty of attention, care, and time throughout the day. I mainly offer care in my client’s home because I feel pets are happiest in a space they already know. I’m good at following routines and instructions, and I enjoy spending quality time with animals throughout the day, whether that’s going on walks, hanging out with them, or keeping them company while their owners are away.

“Desiré did a huge favor for my husband and I! We needed a dog sitter for our baby boy Kovu last minute and I can’t be more thankful that she was available! Even though it was last minute, she was on time for when Kovu needed to be fed and taken out. She showed him love while we were away and even put calming music for him so he didn’t feel too lonely while we were away. Will definitely hire her again 100%!!”

About: Now that I am retired from special education, I can pet-sit full-time! I’ve had dogs all of my life. I got “my” first dog when I was 11. He was a Jack Russell named Patches and lived to be 15. In college, I got a terrier mix named Claire. She lived to be 16. After Claire passed, I adopted June Bug and Ryder, two lab mixes. Ryder and I trained to be a therapy dog team and worked in assisted living homes cheering up the residents. I have gone through many hours of training with both June Bug and Ryder and am now considering working for a dog trainer. Ryder passed away in May 2026. I recently retired from the field of special education, and I’m ready to care for four-legged babies! I know how stressful it can be to find someone to watch your babies or to board them, so I’d just like to help. That’s my main focus. My pups are my kids. I’ll treat yours like family too. I am a recently retired (but still young!) special educator so I am extremely flexible these days. I’ll keep my calendar up to date for availability. If I am in town, I can often take last minute requests. When I come to your home, I will treat it like my own. I am responsible enough to follow all directions you leave. I can administer oral medications, feed, check mail, water plants, etc
“Sydney was very kind and loving with our cats. She took lots of pictures and was very detailed which made us have peace of mind while out of town. We would definitely recommend her and rebook with her! Our cats loved her.”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Allendale
Our original sitter wasn’t available, and we had to find a new one last minute! We found Kristin, and WOW, is she incredible! She truly loved on our dog as her own, and sent lots of pictures and detailed summaries at the end of each visit! She was extremely communicative, and we felt assured that our dog was well taken care of while we were away. We even came back home to a new toy, treat, and a card on our counter. 🥹 Thank you Kristin for taking such great care of our Acadia!

Desire accepted my last minute booking since my boyfriend wasn't able to because of work. Shes great with Holly and always keeps me informed of whats going on with holly and if she did something. I always appreciate transparency when it comes to sitters. Sorry again for holly leaving a wet spot on the couch and you sitting on it. She wasn't upset about it but very understanding 🥺 thank you desire! Sorry again for holly and her anxiety 😂😅

Daniela and her mom were absolutely AMAZING!!! They treated our baby Scuttle with so much love and care. They followed all instructions, had incredible communication, and shared lots of pictures in each report. We have never used Rover this regularly for scuttle before, and we were so impressed by their kindness and willingness to do whatever was needed to make us and our baby comfortable. We can’t wait to hire Daniela again!!

Sydney and Yoonho are the best! They take such great care of our babies and are always super responsive, which really puts us at ease whenever we have to leave them. Our cat Mabel is usually shy and nervous around strangers, but she actually comes out to see them. ❤️

We are so happy we have Emily to care for our animal kids. She is consistently on time and always updates us through messaging. We have used family and friends and they don’t spend the time time walking, feeding, giving meds and playing with our animals every time they stop by. Spending money to have Emily is worth every cent!!!! She is also just a good soul and it feels nice to pay someone who takes their job seriously.

Chelsea has been our go to doggie sitter for the past year or two. Hope absolutely loves her and I love her thorough messages. Recently I had to book a different sitter because Chelsea was traveling at the same time as me and let's just say the other sitter wasn't as thorough with her updates.

Johanna was an amazing sitter for our sweet cat. He was taken care of so well and it was so nice being able to not worry while being out of town. She sent pictures every day and updated us with everything we needed to know. She was punctual and always came at the same time everyday and was always available to chat if I had a question. 10/10 would recommend and will be using her again this next weekend!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
You and your sitter can agree on a care schedule that fits your pet’s routine and the sitter’s availability. Pet Sitting can be booked as a one-time or recurring drop-in visit. If you need overnight care or dog walks, you may also be able to book House Sitting or Dog Walking through Rover with the same sitter, provided they offer those services.
Before booking, confirm:
- the timing, length, and frequency of visits;
- the care instructions the sitter should follow;
- which parts of your pet’s usual routine should be prioritized;
- how often you would like to receive messages, photos, or other updates.
Not every sitter offers the same services, availability, or booking options. Review their profile and discuss the care you need through Rover before booking each service.
If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poop breaks occurred. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available 24/7 by email or chat if you have concerns.
The personalized, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.
Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a lockbox. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalized codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.
If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
A Meet & Greet is a casual meeting to vet potential sitters and communicate care needs for peace of mind before a booking begins. Only sitters who have never booked with you before can schedule a Meet & Greet on Rover; however, you are welcome to coordinate one in Rover messages with sitters you have previously booked. This can be helpful if you have a new pet or routine you want to go over with your sitter.
Meet & Greets can take place in person or virtually. If you are booking with a sitter for the first time, we recommend in-person Meet & Greets to get a clearer sense of how your sitter interacts with your pet or the new environment.
During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Meet & Greets are a great way to prepare your pet and sitter for longer stays or first-time bookings. Read our tips for your first Meet & Greet .
sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy , which you can find on their profile under their contact information. Sitters may set a same-day, one-, three-, or seven-day cancellation policy. Cancelling within your sitter’s cancellation policy qualifies you for a full refund.
Same-day cancellations for recurring services, which include walks, drop-ins, and day care, follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for pet boarding and house sitting, if you cancel after 12 pm on the applicable cancellation deadline, you’ll receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for any remaining days.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means you will get a full refund and our support team will work with you to find a replacement sitter.
