Tonya was very communicative & reliable from our first interaction to the last! She was early to both our scheduled meet-and-greet & to house sitting our pup, even despite the snow & ice in Charleston. She sent photos with an update each day & was always quick to respond to any messages we sent. We came back to find our home cleaner than we left it and our pup (who can become quite stressed by change) has seemed perfectly normal. It definitely gave us peace of mind while we were away after a bad boarding experience. We already reached out to have Tonya stay with him again & would highly recommend her.

Kiana did a great job with our dog. We have a reactive dog that needs time to get used to strangers. Kiana was super calm with her and won her over quickly. She was also very communicative with updates. We would absolutely have her back again to take care of our dog.

About: I've been actively caring for animals for more than 14 years :). Growing up, I regularly pet-sat for family friends, and my family often took in stray cats and litters of kittens, giving me hands-on experience with pets of all ages and personalities. Today, I have three cats of my own and continue to pet sit for friends and family. I understand how important it is to find someone you trust with your pets, and I treat every animal as if they were my own. Whether your pet needs playtime, companionship, a consistent routine, or extra patience and attention, I'm committed to providing loving and reliable care while you're away. Pet care fits naturally into my routine because I have a full-time job with a very flexible hybrid schedule. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, I can work from anywhere, which gives me plenty of flexibility to provide care, check-ins, walks, or companionship throughout the day. I currently specialize in occasional bookings, vacation care, and drop-in visits. At this time, I’m not accepting recurring weekly walking schedules. I'm also fully available on weekends. At home, I care for my three cats with my partner, which allows me the flexibility to accommodate pet sitting while ensuring every pet gets the attention and care they deserve. I enjoy spending time with animals and am committed to keeping them happy, comfortable, and on their normal routine while you're away. I provide care that is tailored to each pet’s needs and routine, whether in my home or in a client’s home. In my client’s home, I focus on keeping pets comfortable by maintaining their normal schedule as closely as possible, including feeding times, walks, playtime, litter box care, and any specific instructions provided. I also make sure pets get plenty of attention, affection, and companionship while their owners are away, along with regular updates for peace of mind. In my own home, pets are cared for in a calm and safe environment. I ensure they are supervised, given a consistent routine, and treated like part of the family. I currently have three cats of my own, so I understand how important it is to create a clean, low-stress space where animals feel secure and cared for.

About: Hi, I’m a teacher M-F and I’m hoping to earn extra $ to offset travel expenses from this past summer and to save for future travel. I love animals and think of this as a win/ win! The photos in my profile are of dogs I’ve cared for over the years (for friends, neighbors, family, and through Trusted Housesitters where I’ve stayed in people’s homes). I look forward to meeting you and your treasured pet. Free and flexible during the day and evening! During the summer months I don’t work. During the school year I’m free between 4pm - 10pm. I’m happy to care for pets in my own home once I’ve gotten to know them as a dog walker. I live near Hampton Park and it is a very dog friendly neighborhood.

About: I have taken care of dogs and cats my entire life and love them. I have been a dog walker and pet sitter in my spare time for years as well in my down time. Now that I have relocated to South Carolina from Massachusetts I am looking to rebuild those relationships with some deserving furry friends. For boarding, I focus on creating a calm, predictable environment with plenty of exercise and affection. For in-home visits and walking, I leverage my experience in property management to ensure your home is treated with the utmost respect while your pet receives my undivided attention. About: I’ve grown up around dogs and have hands-on experience caring for pets of different sizes, ages, and energy levels. As a college athlete, I’m very active, so I love walking, playing, and keeping dogs engaged. I’ve worked with younger dogs who need patience and consistency, as well as older dogs who need a calmer, more attentive approach. I’m comfortable with feeding schedules, administering basic medications, and making sure pets feel safe and cared for while you’re away. I treat every pet like my own and focus on building trust with both the dog and the owner. I’m a college student and athlete, so I’m responsible, disciplined, and used to sticking to a routine. I genuinely enjoy being around animals and staying active, so pet care fits naturally into my lifestyle. I’m dependable, communicative, and will always keep you updated so you feel comfortable while you’re away. My schedule is flexible, especially in the mornings, afternoons, and evenings outside of training and classes. I’m used to planning my day around responsibilities, so I can consistently fit in walks, check-ins, or overnight care. Pet care works well with my routine because I already stay active daily, and I enjoy getting outside and spending time with animals. Your pet’s safety and comfort are my top priorities. I always follow your instructions closely, including feeding, medications, and routines. In your home, I respect your space and keep everything clean and secure. I make sure doors, gates, and leashes are handled carefully to prevent any accidents. I stay attentive during walks and avoid unsafe environments. I also provide updates, photos, and communication so you always know your pet is in good hands.

Elise was fantastic! We have a somewhat challenging situation as our two dogs currently don't get along and have to be separated. Elise was really understanding and hyper aware of the situation, ensuring both dogs would be safe. Our dogs took to her immediately making us feel at ease. She sent a bunch of photos, walked the boys a ton and gave them the attention they needed! She stayed overnight at our house and was very respectful of our home. We will definitely be using Elise for future out of town trips!

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Wadmalaw Island on Rover is $56.93 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of August 2026, there are 1,627 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Wadmalaw Island. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Wadmalaw Island walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Wadmalaw Island maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Wadmalaw Island choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Wadmalaw Island. On Rover:

  • 94% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 97% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 98% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
