“Ruth is amazing. We were on a trip for over two weeks. She made sure the dogs and cats were loved and well-cared for the entire time we were gone. She sent updates and pictures to let us know they were all doing well. Since it was summer, our dog and cat both shed. She vacuumed the house so the dust bunnies did not conquer our planet. She is just wonderful!”

“Bailee was great with my German Shepherd! She was very attentive and kept me updated on how well it was going for the first time watching her overnight. I will absolutely be booking her again.”

“5 stars for Ethan! He stayed in our home to watch our two corgis for a week, both of whom require daily medication. He proactively updated us daily on how the stay was going and how the dogs were doing. He adjusted his care for our senior dog based on his temperament/activity level. He also proactively vacuumed up after the dogs, brought in mail/packages for us, and washed his sheets and towels before leaving. Will book again!”

“Katrina was wonderful to work with and very responsive! Our dog and cat really liked her from the minute they met her. Our home and pets were in perfect condition when we returned. We would highly recommend her and definitely use her again for any upcoming trips!”

About: Big or small, I’ve probably kissed it on the nose! My vet hospital experience gives me the ability to acknowledge changes in each specie better than most. I’m a lover of horses and cows, so big dogs wouldn’t be any different for me. I’m happy to administer medications, keep up with a training schedule/routine, keep up with their energy needs by going to the dog park or walks, etc. I’m known to be a confident, compassionate, and reliable person with animals. I’m a morning person! I’m available most mornings and evenings. My class schedule doesn’t have me on campus for extended periods of time. I don’t have classes on Fridays and am looking to do this as my main income source! I will happily respect your house rules, but I could cuddle all day long with the fur balls! Growing up, I was totally guilty of letting my dog in bed and giving some human food. Now, I understand the importance of discipline and routine. I’m happy to follow your routine and give ample pet kisses along the way! I am sure to treat every pet as my own. If I notice a lump, bump, cut, etc. I’m never one to assume you already know about it. Their happiness and health is my top priority.

“Leoni was amazing. This was my first time doing home sitting and dakota was very comfortable with her and she was amazing with him. She set photos and kept me updated. I will be using her in the future for sure.”

About: I am a caretaker of my 3 dogs with my family. Individually, I have been trusted by friends and families with dog sitting in their homes. I am looking for part-time work while I am at Penn State in the State College area. I am happy to walk dogs during my daily availability. I am happy to stay at homes over weekend nights. Feel free to message me for specific daily availability! I am happy to clean up after the dogs in your home. I can refill water and food bowls, and I will give treats when appropriate. I love taking my dogs on walks, and I am happy to go on a long walk with your dog. I am happy to follow any specific instructions for pet care.
“Zoe took great care of our baby girl Nami, plants, and house. She had fantastic communication and sent us great pictures while we were away. We always knew our high energy puppy was having a great time. We would hire her again in a heart beat!”

“Brigette responded quickly to our Rover request. Very nice and on time. She sent us adorable pictures of our pups and they seemed super happy and relaxed when we came home. Would book again!”

“Emma was so great. She showed up early and stayed the entire requested time. She took really good care of my baby boy and even brought in a heavy package that was delivered a day early so it wouldn't be sitting outside. She was very communicative and respective of my home. I would use her again and recommend her to anyone.”

“Jana was a lifesaver once again - she is so willing to work with you to assist during the times when life gets chaotic! She does a wonderful job giving oral meds to one of our kitties and providing them both with love and attention. I highly recommend booking Jana for your cat sitting needs!”

About: My whole life surrounds around animals. I’ve had three dogs and two cats growing up. I love to train and get to know puppies! Thank you! I’m on summer break from Penn State University, so my schedule is completely open! I can be anywhere you need as often as you would like! I will make sure to keep along with your pets schedules! I love going for walks and enjoying the outside! Let me know if you need anything specific
About: I've been caring for pets of neighbors, family, and friends since I was a child. I love and care for animals of all breeds, sizes, and abilities. I’m currently interning part-time and will be in office every other day, as reflected in my Rover calendar. Outside of this, I am open to care for your pets! I understand that all animals have different boundaries and personalities, and I take that into account with each animal I care for. I am gentle with all pets and ensure that their safety and comfort is my top priority.
“Harlow is a young and super high energy dog so it takes a lot of work to take care of her. Sarah did an amazing job and sent a bunch of pictures to calm my nerves. She also responded really fast when I'd reach out to her. I will definitely be having sarah watch harlow again!”

About: I love take walks, so walking you pet(s) would not be an issue. I also love interacting and be being there for them as well. I find that being there and understanding their queues and their needs is a very big thing. I would be able to look after your pet(s) after 8a.m and before 2p.m. This would be during the week day and sometimes the weekends as well. This varies by what eat pet(s) would need, but I know for my dogs wiping them after they walk is a big thing. I would also abide to any rules or regulations they would need and also treat them as my own as well.

“Caitlyn was fantastic. She stayed with our nearly 15YO Riley. She was very attentive to his feedings, medications and potty breaks. Caitlyn kept in touch daily. We would highly recommend Caitlyn.”

Bailee was a wonderful dog sitter. She stayed in our home with our two very needy Jack Russells We came home to two happy dogs and a clean house. Bailee also sent updates daily and lots of pictures. Thanks to Bailee we were able to relax knowing our boys were being well taken care of.

Vicki was great! She watched our 2 golden retrievers for a weekend - a stormy weekend. She was very communicative and shared lots of pictures. We felt very aware of what was going on. She also left the house clean and in order, which we really appreciate coming home from a weekend away! Vicki is top-notch. Highly recommend.

I can't say enough great things about Maya! When booking, she was responsive and had a great meet & greet with the pups. She was responsive leading up to our trip and was great during the trip in communicating and sending pics of the fur kids. The house was immaculate when we got home and it was clear the fur kids (our kitty, and 70 lb. and 110 lb. pups) adored her!! She was phenomenal and we highly recommend. She's 100% who we'll go to next time we go out of town, even for a day!

I can't say enough great things about Amelia. We have now used her a second time, and it was even better than the first time we gave a five-star review because she was familiar with our pets and the house. She is great with the pets (they love her) and so respectful of our house. We will continue to use Amelia as long as she is available in our area.

Brooke was absolutely amazing! We booked her for in house pet sitting for our 2 dogs (a Rottie and a German shepherd mix) for spring break week. They lived their best lives while we were away and got a ton of love and attention. We received great messaging and pictures and we hope to have her watch our dogs again and again. 10/10 recommend!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in University Park on Rover is $42.8 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of August 2026, there are 146 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across University Park. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred University Park walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in University Park maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in University Park choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
