My pet care wasn't standard, as it involved cats and my rats. This sitter overcame her own fear of rodents and took wonderful care of them. The animals weren't stressed, and the sitter respected the cats' avoidance of contact. Interestingly, the rats were eager to play, which is a good sign, as they're usually wary. Cats and dogs can easily be bribed with treats, but rodents are impossible, and for me, that confirms that I made a good choice in sitter.

Kayleigh did a fabulous job with Puss. Puss is very nervous of new people but she took to Kayleigh straight away. Kayleigh fed her, cleaned up after her and made sure she was ok without crowding her. 🥰

About: I had a family dog since I was a teenager for 12 years and have looked after them in my spare time ever since. Now in my thirties, I've gained a lot of experience with dogs of many different ages, breeds and temperaments. I'm currently available pretty much whenever you need, for whatever you need. Whether it be just a few hours or a few days, I'm happy to help!I I live on a quiet, dog friendly cut-de-sac with lots of parks nearby. And I have a fenced garden, with plenty of space for your pup to run around and play.

Paige has been an absolute superstar with Cheddar and Skittle. The fact that they warmed to her so quickly is a testament to her kind and gentle nature, she truly understood their personalities and tended to their individual needs. We didn’t worry about them once and her detailed pet cards were both a source of entertainment and a much needed source of relief being away from our pets! I can’t recommend her highly enough. Thankyou for everything Paige! Xx

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING PET SITTER !!! We would happily give more than 5 stars if we could. Neomi only lives round the corner so we managed to meet her beforehand which was so reassuring. My anxiety was instantly eased as soon as we started speaking and she kept us updated with our 3 cats constantly! We got lots of pictures from her and can tell she absolutely loves animals and has so much care for them. We will be having her over every time we go away and we really could not recommend her more. Thank you so much 💗

About: I’ve been a huge animal lover all my life; owning dogs, cats, reptiles & guinea pigs over the years. I’m experienced from large breed dogs (my own girl was a GSDxLab), to small breed dogs (regularly boarded a little pug called Marcy). Currently working a 4 day shift pattern, which can change from week to week, but I’ll update my availability to reflect this. I live close to lots of green space so there’s lots of options for long & short walks, and I also drive so I’m more than happy to take them on a big day out if that’s preferred. I have a large, fenced off garden with a padlocked gate. The house also has multiple security cameras too, covering all entry points. I don’t have crates, but I have plenty of space for them if provided. Your fur baby would have full access in the house, I don’t mind them exploring or using furniture, I would just ask you disclose behaviours like scratching +\ shredding so I can prepare for those.

About: I’ve cared for dogs and cats of all ages, sizes, and temperaments, from energetic puppies to gentle seniors who need extra patience and support. I’m comfortable with feeding routines, administering basic medications, leash training and reinforcing good manners through positive reinforcement. I pay close attention to each pet’s individual needs and body language, making sure they feel safe, understood, and loved. Whether it’s long walks, playtime, or quiet companionship, I aim to keep pets relaxed and happy while you’re away. Pet care fits around my weekly college schedule, which I attend four days a week, plus one day of work experience at a doggy daycare. I’m used to structured routines and being around animals every day. Outside of those hours, I’m available for morning, afternoon, and evening visits, as well as weekends. My experience at a busy daycare has made me confident managing different personalities, keeping pets safe, and giving them plenty of attention, exercise, and affection whenever I’m with them. I’m also happy to be contacted about caring for other types of pets, including reptiles and small animals. Safety is always my top priority. I’ve done work experience in a veterinary clinic for 4 years, so I’m very comfortable around animals of all temperaments and have a good understanding of their health and behavior. I’m able to notice early signs of stress or illness and handle situations calmly if anything seems off. When I’m in your home, I’m respectful of your space and stick to your pet’s usual routine to help them feel comfortable. I make sure doors are secure, double-check leashes and harnesses, and keep a close eye on pets during outdoor time. I’m careful about unsafe foods or objects and always aim to keep things calm and clean. I’ll also send regular updates and photos so you can feel at ease knowing your pet is safe and well cared for.

About: I have over 25 years of experience caring for dogs and run Ruby’s Retreat, a home-from-home boarding service in Dukinfield. As a Rover Star Sitter with 33 five-star reviews, I provide personalised care in a calm family environment. I work from home, meaning dogs receive company, supervision and attention throughout the day. I have experience with puppies, senior dogs, rescue dogs, nervous dogs, medication administration and multi-dog households. Every dog is treated as an individual and I take time to learn their personality, routine and preferences so they feel safe, relaxed and settled during their stay. I carefully manage group dynamics and only accept dogs that I feel will be a good fit for the environment, ensuring a positive experience for everyone. I work from home full-time, which means dogs are rarely left alone and receive plenty of supervision, attention and companionship throughout the day. Each day includes garden access, exercise, playtime, rest periods and lots of interaction. I adapt routines to suit individual dogs, whether they prefer active days, quiet companionship or a little of both. I am flexible with feeding schedules, medication requirements and established routines to help your dog feel comfortable and settled during their stay. At Ruby’s Retreat, dogs stay in a calm family home with secure outdoor space and are treated as part of the family. I carefully manage introductions and group dynamics to ensure dogs are well matched and comfortable with one another. Every dog receives individual attention and I take time to understand their personality, routine and any specific needs before their stay. Dogs are welcome on furniture and have access to both indoor and outdoor spaces throughout the day. However, I am always happy to follow an owner’s preferred rules and routines to maintain consistency. Regular photo and video updates are provided throughout your dog’s stay, giving you complete peace of mind while you’re away.

About: I’m patient, reliable, and treat every pet as an individual. I’m happy to cater for every pet from energetic puppies who need extra attention and positive reinforcement to older pets who need a slower pace and a little more care. I’ll always follow your pet’s routine and make sure they feel safe, happy, and comfortable while they’re with me. I’ve always loved being outdoors and spending time in nature, and dog walking is one of my favourite ways to enjoy it. I’ll make sure they get plenty of attention, walks, playtime and cuddle, all in the comfort of their own home so there’s no need to invite them into an unfamiliar setting. I’m happy to follow any specific feeding, walking or care instructions so they feel at home.

Dawn was fantastic as a cat sitter. Dawn is great at communicating and following up on emails and booking, she is reliable and comes at the time agreed, she sent pics of Marvin and let me know how he was doing regularly and she will do little extras like picking up post and closing the curtains when asked. Moreover she left the kitchen and Marvin’s dishes clean and tidy. I would absolutely rebook Dawn for as long as she is a cat sitter. Thank you Dawn.

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Tameside choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a key safe or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:

  • 100% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 100% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.

Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a key safe. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalised codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.

If you live in a flat, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or lift etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Emergency support is available by phone or email in English, French, German, and Spanish from Mon-Sat 9am to 6pm. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a qualified vet or offer other resources to help.
