About: I’ve grown up around animals of all shapes and sizes (mainly dogs). I currently work for a local animal charity as an Animal Rescue Carer. I currently work from Sunday to Wednesday so would ideally be looking to provide dog walks on either a Thursday, Friday or Saturday for you. Due to always having dogs and now working with dogs, I know lots of lovely local dog walks that I can take your pooch too.

About: Hello! My name is Maddie. I am 19 and have a genuine love for animals. I grew up surrounded by various animals, such as dogs, cats, hamsters, bunnies, guinea pigs and fish. I have grown up and trained my pup, who is a collie / springer and now have another dog who is a staffy / bulldog, and have always had an open heart to every animal. No job is too big or too small. I am always motivated for a challenge. I have taken care of my dogs since a young age. Taking them on walks, playing games of ball, feeding them well and of course never forgetting lots of cuddles. Currently I am studying a uni course at Weymouth college, whilst working. However, I would like to start dog sitting to get more experience with animals, to have a good opportunity to go into the army as a dog handler. I will make time for your pets, just like mine. If they are shy / nervous / excited / outgoing , they will all be treated with the same patience and love. I am currently at uni two days a week and working 35 hours a week 3/4 days, however I’m still left with around 2/3 days and 2 evenings free to spend with puppers. I have a fenced off, big garden and two dogs that love to play and would get on well with your dog. I can easily make room for crates if needed and live next to a beautiful field and cliffs which are great for walks!

Alice was kind and calm when she met my young dog Ivor. He had fun on a walk with her when she pet sat him for several hours. He was happy and settled when I returned from my work shift and his pictures show he had a good time.

About: I have several years of experience caring for pets of all shapes and sizes, from looking after family and friends’ beloved companions to providing recurring house-sitting and pet care for a variety of clients. I’m comfortable with a wide range of dog breeds, temperaments, and sizes, and I take pride in offering calm, attentive care tailored to each pet’s needs. I’m also experienced in administering medication and have cared for older dogs, including those managing conditions like diabetes. Whether it’s playtime, walks, or extra cuddles, I make sure every pet feels safe, loved, and well looked after. I work as a freelance creative and so I have lots of time where I am working remote and can be around for plenty of long walks and cuddles for your pets! I love caring for pets in the owners home. Taking care of the pets at their own home makes them so much more comfortable and allows me to easily fit into their existing schedules and routines.

About: Let me take care of your beloved animals while you cant. I've retired from my role in the police and civil service and am now starting my new career in petcare. Enhanced DBS checked and canine first aid trained. Animals are an essential part of my life and I couldn't see myself with out them for long. From an early age I have owned my own pets and worked in petcare. I've looked after birds, tropical fish, cats and dogs to ferrets, rats, mice, spiders and scorpions! My first paid jobs were in an Aquarium shop and then a Pet shop. I've cared for animals throughout all stage of their life. I've hand reared birds and raised both puppies and kittens and even cared for my dog through pregnancy and having her litter of puppies. I have been there holding them as they make their journey out of this world and into the next. I feel it is an honour to be part of the lives of the animals I care for and I take the responsibility of pet care very seriously. I've had experience with rescue dogs, mixed breed and pure breed dogs and understand that each animal comes with its own unique personality and care requirements. I currently own Hungarian Vizsla's and have a strong understanding of these high energy breeds. My previous Cavalier King Charles spaniels suffered with a heart condition and I'm experienced in delivering medications as required. Our previous rescue dog required significant behavioural training and protective equipment. I've had experience in using a variety of petcare equipment including muzzles, harnesses, crates, booties, comfort jackets, post surgical collars and more. Although it has been a while since I owned my own cats, I raised my two from kittens that were no larger than the palm of my hand. I currently have a tropical Aquarium and gold fish pond and understand the requirements for the care of these animals. If you believe I would be a good fit to look after your pet, please dont hesitate to get in touch. You can be reassured that I am doing this as my full time role, so when I am looking after your pets and home I will be able to give it my full attention and your pets will not have to compete with other priorities. A night sit is equivalent to 24 hours, for example 12pm on the first day till 12pm on the following. If you require earlier starts or later finishes, a day charge would be payable addition to the overnight rate. Day sits or drop in's may be available in the local area (Wareham, Sandford, Swanage, Studland, Corfe Castle), but overnight and longer sits will take precedence. Day sits will be charged at an hourly rate and if driving to the location is required a fuel surchage will also be payable. For further information please see the rates section of the profile or dont hesitate to get in contact. How your pets are cared for will be based on the information you provide and being set in their own homes means you can stick to their normal routines and activities. A typical day would involve a walk, play, socialisation if your pet likes that and exploring the local area. For puppies and young dogs I can provide some basic training, I have only completed basic training in this field, but have alot of experience having raised 5 dogs from puppies. I want to ensure your dog is safe at all times, so I would be lead walking in public or using a long line for a little extra freedom. The more information you can give me about your pets the better I will be able to look after them exactly how you'd like, so we would discuss this in greater depth if you choose me to look after your pets. I will happily provide photos and updates regularly to your preferred contact method. The more I get to know your pet the more activities we will be able to do together, for example I have taken a pet I was looking after away in the motorhome to the new forest with our own dogs and friends as well. They had a wonderful time on their first camping trip. We could go for a drive on a day trip out, pub outings or walks in the Country parks etc. All activities would be agreed with you prior to undertaking. I would look after your home with the utmost respect and follow all the rules of the house regarding pet sleeping arrangements, security and alarm procedures, keeping keys and codes safe and secure and respectful behaviour for your neighbours. I would clean up after myself and poo pick the garden as necessary, but please note I do not provide a house or garden cleaning service. I would require a clean bedroom to sleep in, a bathroom to use, access to cooking and food preparation areas. I would bring my own food, but would require the basic staple foods like tea coffee oils pantry items to be available for use. For longer sits I would require wifi access as well.

Aliya and Amir were the completely perfect sitters, they were communicative both before and during the sit. My dog is 'special' in so many ways and they understood and dealt easily with all his quirks. The house was left in a great condition. I wouldn't have even a moments hesitation in inviting them back. Thank you Aliya and Amir.

I highly recommend Edita, she looked after our puppy for us this weekend and has done a fantastic job. She has been kind, loving and taken her out for some lovely walks. It means a lot to trust someone with your dog, but Edita made us feel comfortable about leaving our puppy with her and it was clear to us that she’s a dog person and spent lots of time doing nice things with her. Thank you so much ❤️

About: Having grown up with dogs, cats and horses. I am a huge animal lover. I have pet sat and dog walked from a very young age. At the age of 16 I trained a disobedient male Labrador called Buddy, the family told me I changed their life. I have a way with animals, I love cuddles, walks and playing. I am always happy to assist with looking after pets other than dogs and cats too. No pet is too much for me and with me, they’ll be guaranteed to be spoiled with love. I usually work away on superyachts but I have come home to take a break and possibly find a change of career. Animals have always been the centre of my world and I am hoping this can go further. I will follow all instructions given to keep your pet as safe as possible! I am also happy for pets to stay upstairs with me if this is what they’re used too or shut downstairs if that’s your preference.

About: My family had a boxer dog called Charlie before I was born until I was 6. My grandparents also had a dog until two years ago, who I walked and played with. My neighbour also would being their cocker-spaniel Poppy to our house a few weekends a year, for us to look after, including taking on regular walks, out to the toilet, etc. I would like to petsit a few weekends a year, probably once a month, and am happy to travel to a variety of places for this. I will ensure the safety of your pet at all times, ensuring I follow the instructions you provide to fulfil the individual needs of your pet. I have high attention to detail, and have worked in environments where responsibility and caring for others is of extreme importance (I worked in a nursery for 3 months over the summer 2021).

About: I have had pets for as long as I can remember. While we are mostly been a cat family, we have had an array of pets, from fish to guinea pigs. I always seem to attract the cats however, nicknamed the cat queen in our house. Over the years, I have looked after many family friends dogs; Jack Russell’s, Springer Spaniels, Pomeranians, Labradors, Border Collies. I’ve always loved hiking and walking, and now get to do this as my job, but would love a furry friend to accompany me, so I can play pretend until I own one of my own! I’ve also recently done my first house sit on TrustedHousesitters for two lovely mother and daughter lab pair. It was one of my highlights so far of the year and would love to continue to help other families. I am a very tidy and clean person, and have no problem watering your plants or cleaning out a litter tray! I also have no problem with any energy level of dog, I’d walk for hours and play fetch for days… or just a quick wrap around the roads for cute oldies. I am currently an Outdoor Instructor working with the school holidays. I finish each day at 16:00, so able to drop in or walk to see your furry friends after work. I also have school holidays and weekends off, meaning I’m able to be flexible and spend lots of time playing and walking. I can also house sit during these holidays for whenever you and your loved ones are jetting off. ✈️ I love updating owners and sending lots of pictures of your friends! It is the service that I would like as I know how precious these pets are to us. I can easily follow any particular requirements or where your pet likes to sleep at night, to make sure they’re not unsettled by a new friend.

Lisa-Ann took wonderful care of our Red Labrador, Rex, taking the time to get to know him and us beforehand. Our doggie enjoyed wonderful walks and fun whilst we were away for the week and was very relaxed in her company. Her experience and love of dogs is excellent, alongside her communication to us throughout. Highly recommend Lisa-Ann, who gave over and above. We hope another opportunity arises in the future for Rex to hang out with Lisa-Ann and her family again, thank you!

Fantastic sitter, Olivia took time beforehand to meet us and Juke our big excitable, anxious GSD. She was very reassuring and confident that all would be ok. She looked after him very well addressing all his needs and medication. Olivia kept us updated while we were away and looked after the house well. First time we have used someone to house/dog sit for our Lab Nova. Nicky was very efficient setting up the house sit and able to come and meet Nova at home and go through all her requirements beforehand. Nicky demonstrates a calm and mature approach to house sitting, so we knew Nova would be in safe hands and well looked after. We would happily use Nicky again and can recommend her too.

FAQs for House Sitting - Portland

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Portland on Rover is £37.95 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of July 2026, there are 338 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Portland. Enter your postcode to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Post & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Rubbish & recycling: Taking bins out on scheduled rubbish collection days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best time to agree on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a 'home cheat sheet' that includes your preferred Portland walking routes, the location of your favourite pet shop, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes dedicated customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement programme for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover must pass an identity verification before they can list their services. An identity verification confirms that the sitter is who they say they are based on their documents.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit our Trust & Safety page .

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Portland choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a key safe or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest vet. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorisation form for your regular vet. An authorisation form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
