About: My wife, Pisamai and myself have always had a dog until our beloved Dalmatian, Lexi died last year. We miss her so much, but travel a lot, so thought looking after other people's dogs might fill the void! My wife, Pisamai and myself are retired, so unless we are traveling, we spend most of our time either walking, cycling, or at home in Weymouth. We live in Weymouth and have fully fenced garden. We live 10 minutes walk from a beach and numerous other walks, including the Dorset Coast path.

About: I’ve been around dogs most of my life, including growing up with my own dog where I helped with daily care, walks, and basic training. More recently, I regularly look after and walk my nan’s dog, making sure she’s exercised and well cared for. I’ve also helped neighbours, friends, and family with dog sitting, walking, and general care, so I’m comfortable with different breeds and personalities. Whether it’s a relaxed walk or a more active one, I’m happy to adapt to what each dog needs. I’m reliable, easy to communicate with, and always make sure dogs feel safe, happy, and properly looked after. I work full-time in the fire service, so I’m reliable and used to responsibility, but I still have good availability for dog walking and pet care. I’m available most evenings during the week and more flexible on weekends. I’m happy to offer walks, drop-in visits, and boarding depending on availability. I provide a safe, calm, and caring environment for every dog in my care. I live in a first-floor flat, and any dogs staying with me will never be left alone, with full-time supervision and regular toilet breaks, attention, and a comfortable space to relax. Dogs in my care will get at least two walks a day, usually around an hour, with everything tailored to suit them. Whether they’re young or older, prefer shorter or longer walks, enjoy the beach or quieter routes, or need to be on or off the lead, I always adapt to their needs and your instructions. I’m happy to provide GPS tracking of walks where possible, along with regular photo updates, so you can see exactly where your dog has been and have full peace of mind while they’re with me.

About: What sets me apart as a dog sitter is my personalised, attentive approach and genuine love for animals. I take the time to understand each dog’s unique needs, routines, and personality, ensuring they feel safe, comfortable, and happy in my care. With a focus on providing consistent communication and updates, I give you peace of mind, knowing your pet is in reliable, caring hands. Plus, my experience with dogs of all sizes, ages, and temperaments means I'm prepared for any situation—your furry family member will be treated with the same love and respect they receive at home. As I work from home, I like to keep active throughout the day and evening. I am flexible in my day to day activities, so I can make arrangements with ease for your furry friend! When caring for pets in a pet owner's home, my approach combines consistency, comfort, and personalised attention to make each pet feel safe and loved. I closely follow your pet’s daily routine, from feeding schedules to exercise and playtime, to ensure minimal disruption to their day-to-day life. For dogs, this means enjoyable walks, engaging play, and plenty of affection, while for cats and other pets, I prioritize their comfort and unique needs—whether that’s maintaining a cozy environment, offering mental stimulation, or providing gentle handling. I also keep the space clean, respect your home, and offer regular updates so you can feel at ease while you’re away. My goal is to provide a seamless, stress-free experience for both you and your pets.

We met Ross a few weeks ago to introduce ourselves and our dog, Eddie. Yesterday we left Eddie with Ross for a full day and it's obvious that Eddie was very well looked after and that they enjoyed each other's company. There are some lovely walks where Ross lives so the two of them went out walking. Ross sent us some photos and updates throughout the day which is lovely. We will definitely use Ross's service again and have no hesitation in recommending him.

Jackie provided excellent care for our border collie. She was kind enough to do a meet and greet prior to us dropping Myla off and provided us with reassurance for the first time we’d left Myla with anyone unfamiliar. Myla had a great time, coming home as a chilled dog!

Our dog Rudy had the best day with Alexandra! We requested to book only the day before, Alexandra kindly accepted and helped us out with our urgent request and we couldn’t have been happier to find her. She was so professional, doing everything she could to ensure Rudy had a safe and happy stay with her, and providing loads of photos and info on the lovely country walk they went on. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her and will be using her for any future dog sitting needs.

Kerry and her family were very welcoming when we arrived. I immediately felt sure that Jasper would be well looked after. In fact he never noticed we were leaving. Jasper immediately engaged with Kerry’s dog, Tilly who was very playful and well matched to his energy levels. At the end of the day we collected a very tired but happy and contented doggy. I will definitely use Kerry again when I return to Dorset next year.

About: I’ve grown up with dogs - we’ve had a Dalmatian/ husky / Labrador mix as well as a corgi and then a German shepherd rescue dog who was a very nervous and shy dog. I am proud foster mum to a stubborn sausage dog (who will be able to stay at his owners when I look after other dogs) and have experience looking after energetic spaniels, barky french bulldogs as well as kind and calm rescue dogs from Macao and Romania. I work from home and my job is very flexible so I can give your dog my full attention either at my home or in the home they are used to. I love spending time with furry friends - cuddles, playtime, long or short walks, I’m super easy, caring and attentive. I work from home, my job is very flexible and I can flex my work diary around commitments so can take time off and have plenty of time for walks, play time or wee breaks. I live in a two bed flat with a balcony and an enclosed garden area. I am near lots of fields and places to walk and let dogs run around

About: I’ve looked after dogs for several years both my own and other people’s. I have experience with dogs of all ages and love looking after puppies as much as older dogs. I often work from home so I’m able to give dogs lots of love and attention, I have a large fenced garden and loads of toys for them to play with. A usual day involves long walks, playing in the house and garden, playing with toys and enrichment activities and lots of cuddles! The house is very secure with a gate and wall at the garden so when coming in and out there is no chance of a dog escaping. The house is a few minutes walk from a large field where we regularly take our dog and there are lots of other great walks nearby.

We couldn’t be happier with our experience with Danielle and partner! From the moment I left Mika on the first day, they were incredibly warm and welcoming—not just to me, but most importantly to my 38kg Bernese puppy, Mika. Finding a daycare that’s not only comfortable with larger breeds but truly understands them can be tough, but they were amazing. Mika can be a bit shy at first, but they were so patient and accommodating, giving her all the time she needed to settle in. They clearly love what they do, and it shows in how happy and relaxed Mika is when I pick him up. It’s such a relief knowing he was in caring, capable hands—and getting plenty of play and cuddles with Caesar while at theirs. Definitely would book again! Thank you so much!

FAQs for Doggy Day Care - Portland

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for Doggy Day Care in Portland on Rover is £28.75 per day (as of June 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of Doggy Day Care easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for Doggy Day Care. For more information on service fees, click here .

There are 305 sitters on Rover for Doggy Day Care in Portland. About 87% of Portland sitters can respond to requests in under 60 minutes. Whether you are planning ahead for public holidays, need last-minute care, or need same-day cover for an urgent trip, you can message multiple sitters at once to find available care.

Once you find the right match, you can arrange a Meet & Greet to ensure they are a perfect fit for your pet’s personality before confirming.

Sitters on Rover can offer flexible scheduling, so you can coordinate times that work best for you and your pet—whether that’s early drop-off or later collection to match your Portland commute.

If your schedule changes, it’s best to let your sitter know through the app as early as possible. Many sitters can adjust collection and drop-off times when needed.

Your dog’s first day care experience is a big milestone! To help your pup settle in comfortably, we recommend:

  • Food and treats portioned for the day, with feeding instructions
  • Your dog's lead and collar (ensure tags are up-to-date)
  • Any seasonal gear, such as paw-safe wax for winter or a cooling vest for the summer
  • Medication, if applicable, with clear dosage notes
  • Any special care instructions or training tips to help your sitter provide the most personalised care possible

Tip: Upload this information directly through the Rover app before drop-off. The more context you provide, the better your sitter can tailor the day to your dog.

While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog's vaccines is the best way to be 'boarding ready'. Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.

Sitters in South West England may request that your dog be up-to-date on core vaccines, such as Canine Distemper, Canine Parvovirus, Canine Adenovirus (also known as DHP or DHPPi), Leptospirosis and Kennel Cough. Cats may be required to have Feline Panleucopenia Virus, Feline Herpesvirus, Feline Calicivirus, and Feline Leukaemia Virus up to date.

By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.

If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poo breaks occured. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available for dedicated customer support by email or chat if you have concerns.

The personalised, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.

Every sitter on Rover must pass an identity verification before they can list their services. An identity verification confirms that the sitter is who they say they are based on their documents.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit our Trust & Safety page .

Emergency support is available by phone or email in English, French, German, and Spanish from Mon-Sat 9am to 6pm. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a qualified vet or offer other resources to help.

If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s booking protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes dedicated customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement programme for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your dog, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

We require sitters to operate in compliance with applicable local licensing requirements. In England, pet sitters who board dogs or provide doggy day care as a business may need a valid licence under the Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) Regulations 2018. When vetting your sitter, ask if they meet local licensing requirements for dog boarding. This confirmation is important for coverage under the Rover Guarantee. Read more about our requirement for following local licensing requirements .
