About: I've owned and cared for animals since high school. In addition to dogs and cats, I've owned horses since I was 16. I have been\am a foster parent for the Animal Rescue League of Boston since 2020. I'm a former puppy foster for service dogs and participated with early puppy training. I have carried those skills over to training other foster puppies and my personal dog. I have a medical background (EMT) and my daughter is a Vet Tech so I am very comfortable working with animals with medical needs and will follow any required medical plan. In addition to dogs and cats, I'd love to meet\care for your backyard farm animals; horses, pot-bellied pigs, chickens, goats, sheep, etc. I have experience with some of these animals through ownership and fostering opportunities. I'm open to meeting and learning about new friends. We currently have 4 dogs, 4 cats, and 2 horses in our home. All our animals are our babies and I'll care for yours as if they were my own. I'm currently unemployed so I'll have plenty of time to spend with your pets. I'm available for petsitting any day of the week and can work around any personal appointments. Boarding in my home is restricted to cats or other small animals. Puppies (under 1 year) may be accomodated, no adult dogs. For cats; we have a dedicated "cat room" to keep your pet separated from our pets. The room has a screen door so they don't feel locked away and can be part of our household while remaining safe. I will follow your pet care plan while in your home. For Puppies; all dogs are fed separately to avoid food aggression situations. All puppies will be crated for meals and sleeping overnight. If your puppy is not crate trained, I will work with them to ensure they are comfortable and not afraid. I can support your potty training schedule to maintain consistency.

When our original pet sitter had to cancel within just a couple weeks of our long-planned vacation abroad, we popped onto Rover and began looking for someone to take care of our pets. With not just our dog, but also two bunnies, we needed someone who was experienced with rabbits too! We saw Joy’s posting and reached out. Even though she was leaving for her own trip, she squeezed in a last-minute visit to meet with us, which we greatly appreciated. We felt very comfortable leaving our little guy and girls in Joy’s care. Joy was wonderful in keeping us up-to-date with a nightly report and photos. It was so comforting knowing that our pets were in such good hands and we didn’t need to worry. She followed all the details on the notes we left and asked questions when she had a few. We came home to a well-kept house and happy pets! So glad we found such a caring, trustworthy, and reliable sitter. Thank you again!

Thank you Mikayla for taking care of our little guy! Tucker is a special little Yorkie with health concerns requiring constant monitoring. Mikayla stepped up and delivered reliable excellent care. Oral medication and special dietary needs were taken care of. She communicated with us and sent pics of our guy which was a relief. We could relax and have peace of mind. Bonus, she left the house clean and tidy! We already have our next trip booked! Thank you again!

I was very nervous about leaving my dog with someone other than family. I found Rover while looking for a place to board her. I was able to find and interview potential sitters. Callie stood out to me as when she come over for the interview she had treats with her and my dog fell in love with her instantly! Although it was difficult for me to leave my dog I felt the love Callie had for dogs and it put my mind at ease. She took many pictures of my baby to show she was fine. She took her for a nice long walk which I know Coco loved. I couldn’t be happier!

I would highly recommend. He took care of my three dogs 70+ pounds and one cat. He is an excellent communicator and sent me photos during the stay. He came out for a meet and greet and asked me a lot of great questions. I really appreciate him. it allowed me to go away for a couple days knowing my pets were being well cared for. Will definitely use again. Highly recommended.

About: My love for my own pets inspired me to continue working with animals during college! With a major in psychology and a goal of working with therapy animals in the future, I love learning and growing as much as I can. I have professional experience in animal shelters, and a therapy animal program! I'm hoping to spend more time gaining experience working with animals. Not only is it enjoyable to hangout with furry friends, but it will be beneficial to my future career working in animal assisted therapy! I recognize that every animal is different with their own little personality. Hearing from owners about their recommendations, and getting to know the animal has never failed!

Michael house sat with our two pooches for 14 days. Our reactive, stranger-disliking dog took to Michael on first meeting. Michael responded immediately to any messages that we sent, and kept us informed with regular notes and photos of the hounds. The dogs were happy, our home was well looked after, and the houseplants are still green! Good job!

About: I have 14+ years experience in the veterinary field. Learning about animal behaviors, preventative care and physical health is a passion of mine. I am a very well rounded animal enthusiast that loves to stay busy. Some of my extracurriculars include training my Australian shepherd, whether it’s dock diving, agility or overall obedience. I will hold each pet to standards that support good manners, so some training may be associated with my services. I strive to exercise your fur babies intellectually as well as physically. I am very detailed oriented, and consider myself very observant. I’m not afraid to communicate and ask questions regarding your pets’ needs. I would be caring for your pet around my typical work schedule, which is M-F ~8-6pm, but I can always drop in mid day during lunch. Communicating your expectations so I may practice proper time management is important for a successful and stress free pet sitting job. I have a very well socialized 5yo male, 50lb, Australian shepherd, Oshie and he loves to play. Additionally I can provide walks, and play sessions. Hikes are also supported.

Julisa was wonderful - she stayed in frequent contact, sent pictures and, when our rascal of a dog breached the fence and ran off, she immediately got on the phone with me and we tracked him down at a neighbor’s house. I know what a terrible feeling that is when watching someone else’s furry babies and Julisa handled it so well.

We hired Sarah to watch our 70+ pound Pitbull BoBo. He is quite a handful to manage outside and we find it difficult to find anyone who can handle him. She surpassed all expectations and truly cared about our furry baby. She provided regular updates to us, which was very much appreciated, but she also shared pictures of him being well cared for. That would be enough to most sitters, but Sarah takes it a step further. She cleaned the house, took in our mail, and even cleaned the bedding she slept on. We know of no other dog sitter that does that, but Sarah’s level of commitment to the job she does makes her the best option on Rover in our opinion. No worries here, do yourself a favor and hire her.

About: I gained hands-on experience caring for animals in a busy pet store, learning to read behavior and handle different temperaments. I’m reliable, attentive, and comfortable with dogs of all sizes, ensuring they’re safe, happy, and well cared for. I’m currently working part time, so I’ll have plenty of time for pup play. Meetings work best in the early afternoon for me. I’ve grown up with three dogs and a cat my entire life; always taking them on walks and playing around. I’ve also have helped others who have pups with special conditions at my job.

FAQs for House Sitting - Townsend

Frequently asked questions about Rover

As of July 2026, there are 1,772 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Townsend. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Townsend walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Townsend maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Townsend choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Townsend. On Rover:

  • 97% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 98% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 95% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
