“When our original pet sitter had to cancel within just a couple weeks of our long-planned vacation abroad, we popped onto Rover and began looking for someone to take care of our pets. With not just our dog, but also two bunnies, we needed someone who was experienced with rabbits too! We saw Joy’s posting and reached out. Even though she was leaving for her own trip, she squeezed in a last-minute visit to meet with us, which we greatly appreciated. We felt very comfortable leaving our little guy and girls in Joy’s care. Joy was wonderful in keeping us up-to-date with a nightly report and photos. It was so comforting knowing that our pets were in such good hands and we didn’t need to worry. She followed all the details on the notes we left and asked questions when she had a few. We came home to a well-kept house and happy pets! So glad we found such a caring, trustworthy, and reliable sitter. Thank you again!”

“Kate was awesome with our dogs - lots of walks and photos so we could see how happy they were the whole time! She left our place cleaner than when we left. Highly recommended!”

“Megan did an awesome job taking care of our cat and dog for the weekend. She was a great communicator with us and home and pets looked perfect when we came home! Will love to use her again in the future.”

“Brittany is a wonderful person to care for your pet. She is very professional and caring. Brittany communicated every day with cute pics of our dog. What a trooper; our power went out the first night she was there and she texted not to worry. Will definitely use Brittany again.”

About: I've owned and cared for animals since high school. In addition to dogs and cats, I've owned horses since I was 16. I have been\am a foster parent for the Animal Rescue League of Boston since 2020. I'm a former puppy foster for service dogs and participated with early puppy training. I have carried those skills over to training other foster puppies and my personal dog. I have a medical background (EMT) and my daughter is a Vet Tech so I am very comfortable working with animals with medical needs and will follow any required medical plan. In addition to dogs and cats, I'd love to meet\care for your backyard farm animals; horses, pot-bellied pigs, chickens, goats, sheep, etc. I have experience with some of these animals through ownership and fostering opportunities. I'm open to meeting and learning about new friends. We currently have 4 dogs, 4 cats, and 2 horses in our home. All our animals are our babies and I'll care for yours as if they were my own. I'm currently unemployed so I'll have plenty of time to spend with your pets. I'm available for petsitting any day of the week and can work around any personal appointments. Boarding in my home is restricted to cats or other small animals. Puppies (under 1 year) may be accomodated, no adult dogs. For cats; we have a dedicated "cat room" to keep your pet separated from our pets. The room has a screen door so they don't feel locked away and can be part of our household while remaining safe. I will follow your pet care plan while in your home. For Puppies; all dogs are fed separately to avoid food aggression situations. All puppies will be crated for meals and sleeping overnight. If your puppy is not crate trained, I will work with them to ensure they are comfortable and not afraid. I can support your potty training schedule to maintain consistency.
About: I’ve always loved animals and felt a special connection between them. I believe that every animal deserves the world and all the love! I have a dog of my own, who is my baby! Any time there is an animal I want to make friends and be where they are:) I am currently working full time, but have a lot more availability on Thursdays and Sundays. I am around Saturdays after 3. Depending on the pets needs, I can stay over and go to work from your home. I would love to play with your dog, take them for walks and adventures. I can feed them breakfast and dinner, and include treats. Definitely give them plenty of love as well!
“Colin was a Godsend; he saved us from having to place our dog in a kennel. His reports were comforting and reassured us that Lacy was in experienced hands. We would be happy to hire him again.”

“We seriously could not have asked for a better dog sitter for Archie. Meaghon took amazing care of him while we were away and gave us complete peace of mind the entire trip. Communication was excellent with updates, photos, and check ins that made it so easy to relax knowing Archie was in such good hands. When we came home we could immediately tell Archie was happy, relaxed, and clearly very well cared for. You can tell Meaghon genuinely loves animals and goes above and beyond to make sure they feel comfortable, loved, and cared for. She was professional, reliable, and incredibly easy to work with. We were so impressed that we have already rebooked with her again. Highly recommend Meaghon to anyone looking for someone trustworthy and amazing to care for their pets!”

“Jaylin was perfect! They came over before the stay to meet my dog and get a feel for my place, and they had an amazing time together while I was gone with lots of shared photos. Will definitely book Jaylin again and recommend to my friends!”

I have dogs, cats, and horses at home so I am very comfortable working with all sizes of animals. I also know how to care for birds, fish, guinea pigs, and hamsters and pigs. I know how much a pet can mean to someone so ill will care for yours as if they were my own I currently work 4 days a week. I am available Fridays to Sunday’s if you are looking for a weekend getaway or if you have a busy weekend and would like your dog to go for a walk I don’t offer in my home dog services but can offer cat or small animal boarding. You tell me home you’d like your pet cared for, weather it’s taking them for a walk or just letting them out in a fenced in area

About: **DOG & CAT FIRST AID/CPR CERTIFIED** **experience with rabbits/hamsters/guinea pigs** I have helped take care of my neighbors cats for the last 15 years or so. I have taken care of free roam rabbits, cats, puppies and senior dogs, as well as other small pets. I currently help my fiancée with her two toy poodles. I currently have open availability to watch animals. My current job is remote and I am able to come as needed for services. My weekends are also free as needed. I am very detail oriented and will follow instructions listed about securing your pet, whether this be in a crate, or fenced in yard, or with a harness on walks. My home is fenced in and gated to contain pets inside.

About: My childhood cat Daisy, is as important to me as a family member. She is the perfect cat and I would not be the person I am today without her and that has left me with a deep love for cats, and by extension all pets. She is a whopping 15 years old as of now, was born in 2011 and adopted 2012, and is still VERY healthy and happy to this day. Before her, there was Max the Maine Coon who lived to 15. From birth I have had cats in the house, and adored them. I have taken part in their care more seriously beginning at age 8-10 when we adopted Daisy and took care of her in my room as she adjusted as a young kitten. 7 years later we found a fluffy orange kitten on a local walk. After nobody claimed him, we took him in. He grew up to be a hefty, incredibly fluffy ball of personality. He is now 8 and as energetic and healthy as ever. Needless to say, I love cats and am very familiar with their behavior and care. All the cats me and my family have owned have lived and continue to live exceptionally long, fruitful, and healthy lives. Additionally, When I was a preteen I loved participating in all sorts of summer actiities, but by fam my favorite was a semi-local summer camp at Animal Adventures, a rescue for all types of animals that hosted opportunities for young people to clean, feed, pet, and otherwie enjoy the company of exotic and native animals such as the capybara, a boa python, and even alligators. It was a foundational experience to fuel my love for animals and their care well into adulthood, a fascination that has never left me. My own personal routine for my pet care is simple and effective. I am very flexible when it comes to my availability and am more than open to many following all kinds of particular schedules for your pet’s needs. My daily care for my own pets is as follows: my father and I split the care of the cats when we are both home, but there has been many a time where I am alone for extended periods and in charge of their total care for a week or more. Their litter is scooped at least twice a day, once at noon. They are fed three to four times a day, in the morning, early afternoon, early evening, and night. They split a can of wet food between them for each meal. If we are gone for more the majority of the day, dry food is left out. Daisy has a topical medication applied on the inside of her ear, once at breakfast while she eats and once at night. Left ear in the morning, right at night. Gently holding her scruff while she eats and standing behind her while I apply the medicine makes the process quick and stress free for both of us! For house sitting, I can be flexible and attentive! Depending on the needs, I can (and likely will) spend nearly all the time with your pet. If your pet is shy, I will try to stay within a comfortable distance while keeping track of their well-being, and energetic and social pets will get plenty of love and attention. I care very much about their routines and health and will follow any instructions given, as I am used to an important schedule regarding my own cats’ health.
“Kaylee stayed overnight with Cali and she was great! She was good with communication and making sure Cali was well taken care of, she took time to play with her and kept me updated as needed with photos. I will be requesting her for more overnight dog sittings.”

“Kayla was fantastic! She helped me in short notice and stayed at my place. I got updates on my dog and how he was doing, and she was very communicative regarding her schedule in tandem with my dog’s. She also happened to be at my place when there was an issue with a leak, and if it wasn’t for her quick response to me then I would’ve come home to a huge mess. She cares about you and your companion(s)! Thank you for being compassionate and respectful, Kayla!”

“We left our 8 month old puppy for five days(4nights) with Jess. It was the first time we left her since we got her and Jess was a great fit for our family. She kept us updated, and made us feel so much calmer about leaving her. She even helped Maple keep up with her basic training skills. Will definitely be keeping her contact information for the future!”

“Thank you Mikayla for taking care of our little guy! Tucker is a special little Yorkie with health concerns requiring constant monitoring. Mikayla stepped up and delivered reliable excellent care. Oral medication and special dietary needs were taken care of. She communicated with us and sent pics of our guy which was a relief. We could relax and have peace of mind. Bonus, she left the house clean and tidy! We already have our next trip booked! Thank you again!”

“Jorden was a huge last-minute help and super responsive in communication. Jorden took great care of our two senior dogs. We wouldn’t hesitate to use Jorden again in the future.”

“Sam went above and beyond for us! She was a fantastic communicator being sure to ask questions and send much appreciated updates. She even noticed our pups ear infection and sent samples to her vet to get addressed before we got home. We could not recommend Sam’s services enough!!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Shirley
Megan is very reliable and committed. She came for a meet n greet with our anxious guy and things went great. When she came for the sit, however, our dog could not settle down and barked at her non-stop - hiding under the table. We have no idea why he reacted this way as he has had many successful Rover sits (including overnights) with numerous sitters. Despite the barking and and stress of the situation, Megan stuck with our pup. She could have bailed, but she tried everything she could to help him calm down. It was a multi-day sit, so she even came back for another supervised visit to try and help our dude adjust to her. It got better, though, I think never truly settled. Nevertheless, she stuck it out and was a good communicator throughout. We really appreciated her persistence and care for our guy even though it turned out not to be the best fit between them. Reliability so important and you can count on Megan.

Megan was AMAZING. She took care of the house, plants, and SIX animals (two dogs and four cats, including a cranky, elderly cat who needed daily medicine). We had a very unexpected issue with fleas, and Megan was fantastic about it. She knew what to do (we had no idea - had never had anything like this happen before) and managed to get the cats treated and furniture sprayed - worked with our housecleaner to deep clean areas of the house - and she stayed calm and professional through the whole ordeal. We have never left our animals for this long (9 days) and she was the PERFECT sitter. House was immaculate and the animals were happy, calm, and healthy when we returned. We absolutely would hire her again!

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Shirley walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Shirley maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Shirley choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Shirley. On Rover:
- 94% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 97% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 95% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
