“Andrea took great care of my lil pup on her first overnights without me. She was communicative, has a fenced in yard, a great dog walking neighborhood and I would love to have Rox stay with her for future trips.”

“Natalie took such exceptionally good care of Goose, and he and Leo had a great long weekend playing together and going on walks. Thank you for your care and attention to him and making him feel right at home :)”

I am a full time student at Cornell. I have a back yard for puppy play time. I take boarding, sitting, and walking as long as the schedule fits. Also I can do same day appointment to support our pet parents. I have fenced yard. Extra leashes and harness. We are in a dog friendly neighborhood. My dog is 80lb so I can handle dog who pull and large size.
“Rose took excellent care of our golden retriever during a stressful family event where we couldn’t take Poppy with us. Rose was excellent at communicating with us-sending great photos of our girl enjoying her time away from us. Poppy came home well fed, well loved, happy and very tired! Would definitely trust Rose with Poppy again! Thank you!”

“Yiqing and her husband took such great care of Sandy like he was their dog. He was shy at first as usual but warmed up and felt at home, I could see how happy he was when we picked him up. Great communication throughout. Thank you!”

“Ashley and her husband, Brian, took wonderful care of our beloved rescue dog, Sevi, for just over two weeks. Sevi is a collie mix and quite sensitive. She loves and needs more cuddles than any dog I have ever met and is also highly active. Ashley and her beautiful family provided both affection and active time for Sevi! Ashley was the most professional sitter we have ever used, sending detailed and comprehensive updates at the frequency we requested. She was conscientious, caring, and genuinely dedicated to making Sevi comfortable in her home and with her own dogs. I gained a lot of peace of mind on vacation knowing how well Sevi was being cared for back at home. I would not hesitate to leave Sevi with Ashley and her family again.”

“My pup had the absolute best time staying with Mikia! I could tell he missed her when I took him home. Mikia provided a ton of photo updates of my dog just having a blast, and as a bonus the photos are great and ones that I'll keep forever. HIGHLY recommend, super cozy family environment with an outdoor space and a super friendly dog of their own. Will definitely book again.”

“Candyse and her family were amazing. My dog had a great time and shr was so accommodating of our rush request and schedule challenges. Highly recommend!!! And we will be coming back.”

About: Pet care found ME... I did not find it. After cuddling with random dogs I'd meet on the street my whole life, someone finally asked me "Why don't you take care of pets professionally?" And thus a career was born (which I've adored ever since). I owned my own pet care company for over 15 years while living in NYC and NJ. Now, I’m based in Ithaca, and look forward to taking care of your fur baby! I am not working full time and have plenty of downtime. Thus, my schedule is super flexible and easily adjustable to your pet care needs! I treat all pets as if they were my own. I had a chow chow for many years, which was a member of our family and that is how I view ALL animals. They are part of our lives and our hearts and should be treated with just as much kindness and love as their human counterparts. Hospitality and pet care are my main sources of income. I work nights in hospitality, and my schedule is fairly flexible. I will always make every fur baby take care of my priority! I can take care of pets at your home or mine. I live in a three story/three bedroom townhouse, so there is plenty of room. The townhouse community sits on a big piece of open property. I absolutely LOVE playing with your pets--whether they are in my house or yours. I especially love giving them lots of love and affection!

“Whether it is your first time using rover or 100th time using rover, if Bill and Emma are available look no further and book ASAP. It was our first time using Rover and we, and our 1 year old playful mutt could not have had a better experience. They were flexible, responsive and attentive. The only thing you’ll have to worry about it your pet not wanting to leave (kidding). Thank you Bill and Emma for a seamless experience, we hope our paths cross again!”

About: Hi! I’m Shell, a compassionate and dependable animal lover with hands-on experience caring for pets and working in a veterinary hospital. I’ll also keep you updated with photos and little check-ins so you don’t have to wonder how your furry friend is doing! Your pet’s comfort, safety, and happiness come first. I work as a Veterinary Assistant, so animals are already a big part of my daily life! I’m excited to bring that experience into caring for your pets. I’m experienced with handling animals safely and recognizing when they’re stressed or uncomfortable. I’ll follow your pet’s routine carefully and provide a calm, safe, loving environment.
“I left my pups (for the first time ever) at Erin’s and I couldn’t have asked for a better first experience! I was working a 12 hour night shift and she gave me updates on the pups before they settled in for the night, allowing me to fully focus at work knowing they were warm and safe. My pups were able to sleep with Erin and her partner in their room (which the pups are used to doing at home - Caya loves snuggles)! They did a great job handling Reggie’s anxieties and they had a 17 year old Lab that my pups got to run around and socialize with as well. I will definitely be using them in the future. Very sweet people, nice fenced in yard and a very warm and dog friendly home! Thank you guys again from the bottom of my heart ❤️”

About: Hello, I am an active individual who likes being out in nature and exploring the local outdoor areas. I would enjoy the opportunity to help care for your pet and would enjoy the company as well. I am employed full time as a PhD student at Cornell and am seeking a side job that I could enjoy as much as my current job. I live by myself in a quiet, smoke-free home with no other animals or children. I am in a pedestrian-friendly area with excellent scenery for walking. Because much of my work schedule is flexible, I will have time throughout the day to take care and spend time with your pet. I also have more availability on weekends. As an animal lover, I like to interact with dogs through play (tossing a ball, playing tug-of-war with a toy, running around outside) and relaxing with them and giving them pets.
About: I have taken care of dogs since I was 11 years old. It started with my family dog, along with family members dogs. I would walk them and feed them. I then got my own dogs that I do all care for. I started fostering with a local rescue in 2022. I’ve cared for dogs with medical issues. Anywhere from Seizure disorders, parasites and other various medical issues. I treat every dog that I care for as if they’re my own. I currently work full time, M-F 730a-330p. I am able to check in, walk, feed, etc, dogs before work, during my lunch and after work. I have 2 dogs of my own. We live in a 3 bedroom house. Unfortunately, I don’t have a fenced in yard. I do take my dogs on multiple walks everyday along with utilizing a tie out (if they want to stay out longer), and would do the same with yours, so they get some outside time.
Dog parents share their Rover experiences - South Hill
My dog had an amazing experience with Kyle for 8 nights! They took wonderful care of my dog and gave him the cutest nickname They checked in regularly with photos and messages, so I always knew he was happy and comfortable. He came home perfectly healthy, relaxed, and clearly had a blast. I’d trust them with my dog again in a heartbeat, highly recommend.

Olenka has always taken great care of our pets, for years now. This time, though, she went so far above and beyond - our old senior dog was having health issues in the middle of the night; we were camping and out of cell range. She brought him to the emergency vet and stayed up all night with him. We're so grateful for this kind of dedication and care!! Olenka is a gem, we highly recommend her.
Rocio and Juan are phenomenal! They took great care of our energetic 1 yo Yorkipoo, Remi, and even took her to have her very first leash-free beach experience! Rocio sent me videos and pictures throughout the 4 days Remi stayed with them and I could clearly tell that she was loving every minute of it and best of all, trusted them. We will definitely rebook with them in the future and recommend them highly to anyone.

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
Every sitter on Rover has their own routine. Depending on the arrangements you agree on before the stay, a sitter can follow your dog’s regular feeding schedule, provide a comfortable place to sleep, offer companionship, and support their usual exercise and play needs.
Depending on the sitter, their home environment, and your dog’s needs, daily exercise may include walks, outdoor play, indoor enrichment activities, or supervised play with compatible dogs. These activities are not automatically included with every booking, so ask the sitter what a typical day looks like.
During the Meet & Greet, discuss your dog’s usual exercise and play routine, whether they can safely interact with other dogs, and any activities or restrictions the sitter should follow. You can also ask the sitter to send photo and message updates during the stay so you can see how your dog is spending their time.
Preparing for drop-off is easy when you have a checklist! To help your dog settle into their South Hill home-away-from-home, packing:
- Health and safety essentials such as their ID tags, vaccination records, medication, and emergency vet or secondary caregiver contacts.
- Food and gear such as harnesses, collars, food (portioned by day), and an item that smells like you.
- Special instructions such as a list of training cues, medical administration needs, or favorite hang-out spots in your South Hill.
Tip: You can upload your dog’s routine and medical info directly onto their profile so your sitter always has the details at their fingertips.
You and your South Hill sitter can schedule drop-off and pick-up in a way that works best for the both of you—and your dog. Most sitters offer flexible times for drop-off and pick-up but the easiest way to confirm those times will be through in-app messaging. Confirm your arrival time the day of pick-up and drop-off can also help keep the process smooth and organized.
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit .
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in NY ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your dog to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your dog is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
