“Sammy cared for our pets several full days and nailed their routines and playtime. She texted updates and sent pics regularly. Our dog and cat are quite needy and Sammy made them feel secure and happy. We felt relieved and assured they were in great hands, and she willingly took care of minor home issues that came up. Her experience and love for pets - both dogs and cats, was evident.”

“Haley is just the best. She truly understands both my dog’s needs and mine! She knows the breed well, has taken the time to learn his quirks, and manages him with love and care. Her communication is always clear and effective – she keeps me updated on how my dog is doing and lets me know about any issues on at the house. I always feel at ease knowing Haley is taking care of him.”

“Linda was wonderful! She house Sat/cared for our two dogs while we were away on vacation. She sent us daily updates regarding the dogs, letting us know how they ate, played, etc. and daily photos as well. She was easy to contact and responded quickly. We will gladly have Linda stay with our dogs again soon!”

“Molly was wonderful with our high needs elderly dog. Molly was communicative, responsive, and sent many updates and photos throughout the day. We hope to have Molly watch our dog again and highly recommend Molly to anyone looking for a sitter!”

“We had Chris come do an in-home stay for the first time with our reactive pitbull and he crushed it! Reactive dogs are not the easiest to find sitters for and Chris was very accommodating with setting up a meet and great before hand and had even done his own research ahead of time to make sure he was knowledgeable before going through the introduction process. Our dog warmed up to him right away and she was able to immediately identify him as a safe person since he was so calm and easy going with her. When it came time for him to stay, all that was needed was a quick reminder and they were best buds for the rest of the weekend. He quickly learns her quirks. He sent daily pictures and updates. Then when we returned, our mail was stacked on the counter and the house was very neat, just as we left it, which is always appreciated when someone stays in your home. During the introduction stage he even requested to be shown where our cleaning supplies were and when our trash gets taken out. Chris was not only an excellent dog sitter, but a great house sitter as well! We are frequent travelers and will definitely be continuing to use Chris.”

“Jonathan did an exceptional job dog-sitting and house-sitting for us for a full week. He was incredibly conscientious and highly communicative, sending regular updates and adorable pictures. Our dog absolutely adored him, and Jonathan took such great care of our home that we barely noticed he was there—yet we returned to a spotless house. We highly recommend him without hesitation.”

“Kayla stayed at our house for a week with our 2 dogs and she did an excellent job. We highly recommend her for any of your needs with babysitting your animals when you’re thinking of getting away. We will definitely be using Kayla in the future.”

About: I have always had a pet dog and ever since I was a teenager, I’d dog-sit for family and neighbors. Since college, I’ve been pet-sitting ajd dog walking on a more professional level. I’ve babysat for a few hours, simply for a walk, but have also watched multiple high energy dogs for up to two weeks. I’ve cared for dogs under a year old and up to 13 years old. I’ve always loved dogs and find them very easy to get along with and care for no matter their size, age, or personality. I have also cared for kittens a few weeks old, senior cats, administering medication orally, grooming them if they have long hair etc. Cats have a very different energy than dogs but I enjoy taking care of them just as much as dogs. I am currently in between jobs so I have a lot of free time to care for other dogs, whether it is a short walk or a multi-hour play date, etc. I always follow whatever guidance I am provided by pet parents. This means if you are only comfortable with your dog on a leash or lead while in your yard, I strictly follow that. If there are specific commands to use, certain behavior to watch out for or discourage, particular toys or activities they enjoy, I always follow what information I am given and am always open and communicate well about any issues or concerns that might arise on my end.

“Ruth took excellent care of our two dogs while we were out of town. She kept us up to date with texts and messages which I really appreciate! She even taught our younger dog a new trick! Will definitely book again and highly recommend!”

“Shea is a very nice respectful and polite girl. Her communication is always timely. She was punctual with her arrival time, allowing us to leave a few minutes earlier than planned for our trip. She wasn’t afraid to send a text later in the evening when our dog was having trouble settling down. She sent a couple updates and photos during her stay with our dog and everything went well. We will definitely keep her in the rotation for when we need care for our dog!”

“We had a family emergency and had to find some to housesit with our 3 dogs at very short notice. The sitter we had used in the past was not available and we then stumbled on Rachel's profile. One thing I liked was that she had so many positive reviews that were very recent. So many reviews on here are several years old, so you don't know how committed some of the people are. One of our dogs has some special needs and needs more care than normal dogs and we are always concerned about how people will cope. Anyway, my wife met Rachel 2 days before we were leaving town to go over the instructions for our pups and she was totally impressed, so we booked her. Rachel turned up on the day at the time she said she would and stayed for four days. I received frequent updates and Rachel answered my texts pretty quickly. My neighbor also said she saw Rachel out walking our dogs at least a couple of times a day. When I got home the house was as tidy as we left it and the pups were happy. Rachel also managed with the issues our one dogs has without any issues. We would definitely not hesitate to use Rachel again.”
“Jessica was an amazing sitter & took great care of our little zoo! Our pups are high energy, and when we got back they were relaxed, happy and clearly well taken care of. We would definitely have Jessica watch them again!”

“Jaclyn took great care of Sadie while we were gone for the weekend! Followed the instructions and went above and beyond to make sure Sadie felt loved the whole time. Lots of playing, belly rubs, and walks for our Pomchi!”

About: I’ve loved animals since I was young, always being known to be the person who asks “Can I pet your dog?”. Having grown up living with and partially helping to train my grandparent’s standard poodle puppy at age 9, I knew then that I wanted animals in my life forever. Through the years I’ve done fundraisers for local shelters, looked after and groomed family dogs, given pet care advice, and for the last four years have worked professionally as a kennel attendant. My job has always been a joy to me, and despite its stresses I always tell people that caring for animals is the best job I could ever ask for. I’ve been able to meet and work with pets of all different breeds, sizes, temperaments, and abilities; from blind/deaf dogs, senior dogs, aggressive dogs, puppies/kittens, diabetic dogs and cats, and so many more. Each of them provides an invaluable experiences that teaches me patience, compassion, and communication. I’m now the proud owner of a 11 month old cat, Balrog, and of a 13 year old chihuahua, Mia. Though I am a full time student and a part time kennel attendant, I am able to be more flexible with my schedule over summer break. My current availability is as follows, Monday: Unavailable Tuesday: All day Wednesday: All day Thursday: All day Friday: All day Saturday: All day Sunday: Unavailable While I do not have any space in my home to keep animals at the moment, in a clients home I am happy to play with pets, let them out or go on walks, crate if desired, clean up any possible mess, and overall act as a safe and friendly part of a pet’s environment in any way possible.
“Aiden did an amazing job with watching our dog and house while we were away for 5 nights. Dog was well cared for, happy and comfortable while we were away. Aiden was very communicative and we returned home to our house as clean as we left it. Thank you, Aiden!”

“Samantha was a fantastic housesitter and took great care of our old Great Dane. She kept me updated throughout the weekend and if she hadn’t sent me photos I would never have known she was there since the house looked the same as we had left it.”

“Rebecca has taken care of our pups in our home twice now and we definitely will be booking again. She goes above and beyond to care for our dogs and we leave knowing the dogs will have a safe, fun, and adventurous time. Rebecca has also been very communicative and flexible, which we greatly appreciate. She’s an awesome sitter!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Somersville
We highly recommend Brooke and her husband, Mike, as dog sitters! During our very first meet-and-greet, our dogs, Arnold and Stella, absolutely loved Brooke, which immediately put us at ease. Brooke is incredibly communicative and takes the time to learn each dog’s unique personality, routines, and needs. She keeps the dogs engaged, active, and happy, and provides frequent updates with lots of photos, which we really appreciate. It’s clear that she genuinely cares about the animals she looks after and goes above and beyond to make sure they feel comfortable and well cared for. We couldn’t be happier with our experience and look forward to having Brooke back to care for Arnold and Stella again in the future!

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Somersville walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Somersville maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Somersville choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
