Jonathan took fantastic care of both our dog, Winston, and our house! I would highly recommend him as a pet/house sitter. He took Winston on very long walks, sent daily photos and updates, and kept us informed on Winston's well-being during our absence. We knew Winston was well cared for, and therefore we had no concerns while we were away. Jonathan gave us peace of mind that our "baby" was just fine.

About: I’ve had dogs my entire life and grew up with my first dog, a Pit Bull and Chocolate Lab mix, who was with me from birth until I was 16. I helped care for her throughout her life and developed a really special bond with her. I also have a new dog who is mostly Pit Bull, and I take care of him regularly. I’ve also cared for friends dogs and currently walk a Golden Retriever multiple times a week throughout the summer. I’m comfortable with different personalities and love building a genuine connection with every dog I meet. I’m currently a student but have a pretty flexible schedule where I have much free time during the week and full availability on the weekends. I want every pet to feel safe and comfortable while they’re in my care. I follow each owner’s instructions and keep their normal routine as much as possible. I’m very attentive and make sure pets get the care, attention and love they need. I also treat every client’s home with the same respect I would want for my own.

As always, Haley did everything asked of her and more. She provided tons of photos, updates, and even gave Sally a bath after she went for a little swim in the woods! Sally seemed very fulfilled once I got home and the house was left in great condition. Thank you Haley!

About: Hi! I have been pet sitting with my non-reactive pup Sylvie for a number of friend's cats and dogs since COVID (usually as a favor) in and out of the New England area. I work at an arts non-profit in PVD and can drive. I can pet-sit and do limited amounts of dog training. Right now I work in a dog-friendly place 10 minutes from my home and my partner is working from home. We like going on hikes and to the dog parks. I would not bring a client's pet to my workplace, but a pet would always have someone with them at all times or at least not be left alone for more than a few hours at a time. I am most flexible on weekends and for overnight care. I have a fenced yard, a crate, and multiple rooms in the home with pocket doors that can split a larger room into two if needed. We usually let pets have free range of home or section off the living room depending on the temperament and needs of the pet.

Isabel is fantastic with my two big dogs! They have various health concerns and lots of energy, and she made us feel so comfortable with all the great updates/photos while staying at our house for the long weekend. Not only is she a wonderful house guest, we can tell how much our dogs truly enjoy spending time with her!

About: I have been taking care of my own pets and animals my whole life, but recently expanded into watching and doing over night care, dog walking, and pet care for neighbors, family and friends. I’m currently going to Rhode Island College and pursuing my bachelors in Secondary Education. I also work part-time at a local hotel 3-11pm. This means I’m prettt flexible with when I can drop in to do pet-sitting and many of my classes have hour gaps in between so I can fit in pet visits! For my dogs at home, I ensure routine feedings are being followed to their timed feeding, I also focus on walking my own dogs 2-4 times a day, depending on which dog! In my own home I have 3 dogs, and 2 cats. For cats I also focus on ensuring that cats are following their feeding schedule, also ensuring that they are being played with, and enrichment is being provided.

In addition to caring for my own pets, I have pet sat for a family friend who has three dogs. During that time, I was responsible for feeding, potty breaks, walks, playtime, and making sure they felt comfortable and safe while their owner was away. I understand that every pet has a unique personality and routine, and I make it a priority to follow owners' instructions carefully. I am dependable, patient, and committed to providing pets with the attention, care, and affection they deserve. Experience Includes: Daily feeding and fresh water Walks and exercise Potty breaks Playtime and companionship Caring for multiple pets at once Following specific schedules and routines Monitoring pets for safety and well-being Providing updates to owners I currently work part-time Saturday through Monday, which gives me plenty of availability during the week to care for your pets. I am available for drop-in visits, walks, feeding, playtime, and companionship throughout the day on weekdays. On workdays, I can stop by before my shift in the morning and again after work in the evening to make sure your pets are well cared for and comfortable. I am committed to following your pet's routine and providing reliable, attentive care so you can have peace of mind while you're away. Your pet's safety and comfort are my top priorities. I always follow the care instructions provided by pet owners, including feeding schedules, exercise routines, medications (if needed), and any special requirements. I take the time to learn each pet's personality and needs so they can feel comfortable and secure while you're away. When caring for pets in a client's home, I respect both the pet's routine and the owner's home. I make sure pets have fresh water, a clean environment, plenty of attention, and appropriate exercise and playtime. I also keep doors and gates secure and monitor pets closely during walks and outdoor time. I understand how important trust is when leaving your pet in someone else's care. About: I have been taking care of dogs since I was 10 years old. My parents have had dogs all of their life and growing up I was taught how to take care of them on my own. I will make sure your pup feels safe, and loved while you are away. I work fully remote Monday- Friday and work a side job on Monday night and Wednesday night. I can work from your house and take care of the pets as long as there is WiFi! I currently live in an apartment with my partner with our dog and cat. I usually will walk our dog around the block. He is a little shy with other dogs so I would just come over to your house and walk your dog then!

FAQs for House Sitting - Smithfield

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Smithfield on Rover is $31.08 per night (as of September 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of September 2026, there are 2,127 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Smithfield. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Smithfield walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Smithfield maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Smithfield choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Smithfield. On Rover:

  • 94% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 98% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 95% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
