“Sara was amazing! Was able to come on short notice! Or cat was happy when we got back. They were respectful and communication was clear. We hope to have Sara watch our cat again when we need to be out of town! Highly recommended!”

“Alicia was so incredible, my baby loved her almost immediately and she was so thorough during our meet and greet. I can tell she really put her heart and time into my pets. With the consistent updates and pictures there was not a doubt in my mind that my pets were being loved like they were her own.”

“Sophia was a great pet sitter. She checked in with me regularly and was very prompt. It was much easier to enjoy my recent trip knowing that Sophia was there with my dog, Kota. Kota is an older dog, and Sophia managed her medications and small walks for us. I would, of course, book her again.”

“Mari is amazing! She was on time, calm and professional. Our toy poodle instantly liked her. When we came home, our house was exactly as we left it. We were thrilled with her!”

“Sarah was a wonderful pet sitter. She took excellent care of my dog and cat. She even dealt with a intruding racoon and she also watered my huge collection of plants. I really appreciated her hard work and care.”

About: I have 10+ years of experience in dog care, including living with and being trusted to dog-sit one-on-one! I grew up with a three-legged Maltese who now lives with my Dad in Iowa, and spent time for my Mom’s 2 year old chihuahua while she was at work. I have also spent time caring for my Grandmother’s recently passed 20 year old poodle, and losing her was heartbreaking but I am glad I got to spend the time I did with her. I am a dog lover all around, and would love to give out some good scratches and be another friend to your dog while you are away! I typically work 8-4pm, so I would be available to provide overnight care. I am unfortunately unavailable to give midday potties, but am free to check on dogs who need a checkup if you are caught up at work. I make sure to give lots of love and attention through constant scratches (unless they don’t like to be scratched), and plenty of playtime to tire them out. I have found enrichment exercises such as puzzles or hiding a treat inside a Kong toy to be valuable activities.
About: I have experience with wide age ranges of dogs. Aware of food restrictions from caring for my parents dog that had cushings. Trained my own puppy when I got him at 8 weeks old. Aware of different dog personalities with my current dog, who is a rescue. She carry’s a lot of anxiety and fears for loud noises. I am a stay at home mom currently. But my kids are going to now be In school full time. Looking to dip my toe in the work world again but still need to be available to them before and after school. This seems to fit, because it flexible. I would prefer to care of clients animals at the here home. I have small children and a dog. If clients dogs don’t like children or don’t get along with other dogs, I prefer to keep them in there environment. So they are most comfortable when there humans are gone.
About: I have experience potty training puppies, and administrating multiple medications for dogs if needed! I can also walk your dogs and send pictures every day while I am taking care of them. I’m a student at CSUMB, so I will be available mostly on weekends (Friday included). I don’t mind going a bit out of my way, within reason. I take care of my pets as best as I can, and will try my best to clean up after both your pet and myself if necessary! I believe in short maintenance cleaning daily as opposed to cleaning everything all at once.
About: Experienced in providing dedicated care for my own dog. Familiar with daily routines, feeding schedules, grooming, and ensuring overall well-being. Although my experience is personal, I am passionate about animals and committed to delivering the same level of care to your pets as I do with my own. I am committed to working as a full-time pet sitter. My goal is to be available to care for owners pets at least 2 times per day. I am available to travel for pet sitting and in special cases will remain with pets throughout the day if needed. Let’s talk about details. Including dogs, cats, and even reptiles like lizards and bearded dragons! I also previously worked at multiple dog daycares and was a shift supervisor at one of them for over a year. I currently have no job so the most I am out of the house is two or three hours and we do frequent potty breaks. I also take them to the dog park if weather permits:)! I have a fenced in yard with two very friendly dogs who love to have friends. And plenty of extra room inside the house so the dogs have their own space aswell!
“Zoe was amazing ! Ellie loved and adored her and was clearly well looked after for the two days we were away. Zoe kept us updated throughout her stay and were so grateful to have found an awesome dog sitter :)”

About: My I have been a cat and a dog owner before. It's been about three years since I've owned a pet for personal reasons. I'm very patient and kind, I would do my very best in caring for any pet I am to watch over no matter what. I live with my grandmother who has a dog herself, so when she's at work or goes out of town I watch over her dog for her. At the moment I have open availability. I'm looking into going to school for the fall semester. I'm in the process of figuring out what I want my career to be. Getting into dog sitting is going to help me determine if I want to work more with animals and make it apart of my career.
“Chris did a fantastic job sitting our dog. He’s a very caring and patient person. He was also very flexible when it came to adjusting his schedule. Our dog Daisy really liked him too :) Looking forward to booking him again.”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Salinas
We had to leave unexpectedly for over a week and our 2 regular dogsitters were unavailable. We have multiple dogs and cats, including a 160-pound Great Dane. We were lucky to find Sophia on Rover. We met her in-person hours later and we (and our managerie) liked her. She came to stay in our home a few hours later. Sophia did a wonderful, though not perfect job, (she missed walks on a couple of days), of watching our home and animals. Our dogs clearly love her, she administered our Dane's medicines correctly, sent us pics of their walks, brought in mail, and we were able to attend to an out-of-country funeral with no worries about our dogs, cats or home. She gave us peace of mind. We came home late, but she stayed and waited. She was very friendly and respectful...and our home was left spotless. We highly recommend her and would use her again.

We had an excellent experience with Samantha. Caring for multiple pets, including a puppy, is no small task, and she handled everything with consistency and care. We appreciated the regular updates, which gave us real peace of mind while we were away. We came home to happy, well-cared-for animals and a house in great shape. We would absolutely book with her again and highly recommend her to others.
Last night was the third time Ashton watched/walked our great dane. Tiny, our 160 lb dane, loves Ashton. And Ashton is equally popular with our cats. Ashton shows up on time and washes whatever dishes he uses, both signs of how responsible he is. He sends us pics of our furry family and keeps us informed. We'll use him again.

Jasmin was an excellent sitter. She stayed at our house and it was in great condition when we got home. Our dog was well cared for and see seemed happier and less stressed than with other sitters. Jasmin communicated well every day with us about how things were going and we look forward to having her support again.

Aleah is amazing. She is responsible and absolutely fantastic with our Augie. She is the best of the best. We feel extremely lucky to have had the opportunity to bring her into our Angie's life. They got along fantastic and she has a genuine care, love and respect for Augie and the situation in front of her. A true professional and we can’t wait to ask her back! We think Augie loves her more than us! Thank you Aleah for a wonderful experience!! You rock!!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Salinas on Rover is $49.95 per night (as of September 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Salinas walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Salinas maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Salinas choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Salinas. On Rover:
- 92% of sitters can help with special care needs

- 97% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
