“We were in a real bind to get a sitter and she was able to help us at the last minute. She took great care of both of our dogs and even washed some of their blankets while we were gone. Would recommend her again!”

“Melody did an amazing job taking care of our pets AND home! We felt extremely comfortable leaving them in her care. She was great at communicating, sent frequent updates, and really devoted her time to ensuring everything went smoothly. Truly an amazing sitter. We would absolutely reach out to her to watch our pets again!”

“Lexi is an amazing pet sitter and house sitter. My guy buster took to her immediately, and she was so carrying in a ton with him. And went over and above to make sure that when I got home, I had a little to do as possible. I would absolutely use her again, and Ashley asked, but she is already busy for the next time I need help. She’s amazing and I would recommend her to anyone.”

“Chris was an excellent pup sitter for our black lab. We were nervous to leave our boy and it was our first time having a stranger in our home to care for him. Chris was kind and patient with Cayde and gave us frequent updates on how things were going. Chris put us at ease and left the home as he found it. We'd definitely have him return for future in-home pet sitting!!”

“Debbie was great. She handled everything professionally, asked great questions, and even had some suggestions. Good communication leading up to and during our trip. We would use her again.”

“Alyssa is AMAZING. our lil rescue Chiweenie can be a nervous guy and Alyssa was great with him and super patient. We had her come by and hang out while we were gone and it was so great having the peace of mind knowing someone was home with him. We will definitely be booking her again if needed in the future!”

“Kellie did a great job of communicating with us. We appreciated the pictures of our pup and her enthusiasm for taking good care of him. We will definitely request her services again.”
“We had an amazing experience with Alivia and would recommend her to everyone looking for a dog sitter! She took such good care of our dog while we were gone. He’s kind of anxious around new people and she was so kind and patient with him, she sent us videos of him wagging his tail and being goofy :)”

“Natalya was attentive and gave exceptional care. She administered supplements, kept feeding time schedules, and took time for outdoor activities. We appreciated her communication and pictures. We will definitely schedule her for upcoming care. Thank you, Natalya for giving us a peace of mind. :-)))”

“Nicole did an amazing job taking care of our dog and cat. She was very responsive, timely, and sent beautiful pictures and updates while we were gone. We would definitely recommend Nicole and would love to have her back here to take care of our pets next time we are away. Thank you Nicole!”

About: I have been to go to pet sitter in my neighborhood all of my life. I've dealt with one neighbor's dog in particular who is a difficult dog and requires medication. Pet care is always my number one priority because if someone was taking care of my dog, I would want the same level of care that I provide. I like to learn and also know the routine of the animal I'm watching to best fit their needs and learn or change when necessary.
“Candace was great! My husband and I just moved to the area and we’ve never had a non-family member take care of our fur kids. Needless to say I was nervous! Candace did an amazing job communicating with us before and throughout her stay. From her daily pictures we could see she kept the kids on their routine and they seemed to be so happy while we were away. We will definitely book Candace again for our next trip!”

“Saber was amazing with our pets. Our pup is very high energy and she gave him lots of big walks. Our senior cat needs daily medicine (ointment rubbed on the inside of her ears twice a day). She did everything so well. She even prepped some of our dog's lick mat treats for when we got back! She had timely communication and shared updates and photos. It was her first time sitting for us and we were absolutely thrilled with the job she did.”

About: While I don't have a dog of my own at this time (due to both of my cats being absolutely terrified of them), I grew up with them and absolutely love and adore them. Every time I go to the Saturday Market I make it a point to pet and love on (with permission) as many dogs as I can. Whenever I visit friends or family with dogs, I'm most likely to be found on the floor next to them to ensure I get the most snuggle time as the dog is comfortable with. I've taken care of animals, including my own, for my whole life. I have my own medically complex cats that I take care of daily who each have their own medication and food plans, along with frequently watching my roommates cats when they are out for work. I've pet-sat for a friend for a number of years before I moving out of that area, which included both cat and dog care. I have loads of experience orally medicating cats and keeping track of difficult food plans. I've walked numerous dogs over the years and love getting to pet and interact with them. I left my job in April of 2026 and Rover is the first thing I have explored since then. While I have ongoing obligations on Wednesday and Friday evenings, the timing is flexible. I have lots of time to ensure fulfilling visits with your pets, making sure I can give them everything they need while I am there. I like to chat with folk about their animals ahead of time and learn some of their needs and habits. If they are shy - where do they prefer to hide and how best can I help make them comfortable with my presence. If they are abundantly friendly - how can I best spend my time giving them the right kind of care and affection to meet their needs (I have a cat who was wants to be next to/touching a human at nearly all times - having someone drop in for 20 minutes for food and some affection would NOT be enough for her). Every animal is unique, and our care should reflect that. I also make sure to clean/tidy up the area while I'm there and try to leave it just as clean, if not more, than it was when I got there.

Alexandra is an absolute legend, easy 5/5 stars. Her level of professionalism really impressed me. My 3 dogs loved her from the moment they met her, which was great. She provided updates, wrote notes on what had been done before she left and sent daily pictures while we were away. She took her duties and responsibilities seriously and I really appreciated that. Without a doubt, I would highly recommend Alexandra to anyone looking for a pet sitter.

McKenna was absolutely wonderful! From the beginning, McKenna took exceptional care of both my dog and cat and was incredibly respectful of their individual personalities and needs. Rather than pushing for interaction, McKenna gave them space and allowed them to come out of their shells and get comfortable at their own pace. My dog can be pretty particular about people and warmed up to McKenna in record time, which says a lot! The daily updates were so appreciated and gave me complete peace of mind knowing both pets were happy, comfortable, and well cared for. McKenna also took exceptional care of my home and somehow left it even better than when I left! McKenna truly went above and beyond, and I’m incredibly grateful for the care, attention, and respect given to both my pets and my home. I would absolutely book with McKenna again and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend McKenna to anyone looking for someone trustworthy and genuinely caring!

Megan was great!! She updated us multiple times throughout her stay so I knew that was happening. My dog is very anxious and when we got home he was calm and super chill, which is hard to achieve. We would definitely recommend her and will be reaching out in the future if we need a pet sitter.

🌟 Colbie is an amazing pet sitter! Our 4 cats were relaxed and happy after our trip. Even our skittish kittens came out to say hi which is rare! Colbie’s followed our instructions and the house was spotless on our return. It’s apparent that Colbie loves and has a special gift with animals.

Emily was so FUN SUCH A GIRL GIRLS SO SWEET SO CARING!!! 🫶🏻🥹🥹🥹❤️❤️she played with him intell he couldn’t play anymore took him on lots of potty breaks played with the little girls that live next to me with Leo played doggy music when he was sleeping I mean this girl is just so fabulous so amazing I got really lucky with her thank God and I would definitely book her with Leo because Leo had so much and she was really good with my cat as well this girl put her heart and soul into every thing and I just appreciate you Emily

We had a great meet-and-greet with Josh before our first booking for him to stay with our young yellow Lab. Josh showed up promptly and took our instructions well, which gave us confidence and comfort in booking him to stay with our dog in our home. Josh was a great communicator during our time away and was very observant of things that needed attention in our home. He kept our active Lab very busy each day with walks and many sessions of ball retrieving. He also kept our outdoor potted plants watered during the hot days we are having and filled our fountain. We couldn’t say enough good things about Josh and look forward to using his services again!

I had an unexpected need for a house sitter at the last minute and luckily Zabelle was available. She arranged a meet and greet with my kitties the day I booked and asked great questions while we visited. During the stay Zabelle sent daily updates about how things were going, along with photos of my critters in their usual spots. Very reassuring! She was conscientious and checked in when she had questions. Plus she left my house clean and tidy too. I would not hesitate to book Zabelle again, thank you for taking such good care of my babies.

Xavie is great, this was the first time we have ever hired someone out side of family/friends and she put our mind at ease caring for our girl. We loved all the updates and photos she sent, they made us feel comfortable knowing she was in great hands. I would love to book with her again in the future.

Natalie is very good with our pets. We have a senior kitty that she handled the medication for and our high energy dog she gave mental stimulation for. She provided updates of how everyone was doing. Natalie was very nice, punctual, and professioal. When my wife and I go out of town again, we will surely rebook.

We had a wonderful experience with Catherine, and it was clear from the start that she genuinely cared about Manny. She kept us updated with messages and photos, and we could tell he was happy, comfortable, and in great hands the entire time. We came home to a relaxed, happy pup, and we'd absolutely trust Catherine to care for Manny again.

We have hired Addie before and greatly appreciate her! She is reliable, responsible and took care of our senior dogs, home and garden so we could take a worry-free vacation. She communicates well, left our house clean, and followed the directions we left for her. We look forward to hiring Addie again!

Ryessa was wonderful with our dog, Minion, and our cat, Creature. She was communicative, responsive, and kept us updated throughout the stay with messages and photos, which gave us great peace of mind while we were away. She was easy to work with, took excellent care of our pets and home, and made the entire experience stress-free. We really appreciated her reliability and clear communication. We would happily book with her again and would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy and attentive pet sitter!

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Salem walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Salem maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Salem choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Salem. On Rover:

- 88% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
