“To say Kimberly was a good or even great dog sitter does not nearly do her justice! She stayed with my dogs through Hurricane Beryl even when my house didn’t have power for days in the middle of summer. She made sure they were cared for and as comfortable as possible, going so far as to put cool wet towels on their backs and taking them to her house when I lost power, and made sure to stay in contact with me throughout the storm to make sure I knew how they were doing and were safe. I will be a repeat customer of Kimberly’s any time I go out of town and while I would love to gatekeep her so she has availability for me lol I cannot recommend her highly enough to others!”

“This was the first time we used Rover for a house sitting and we were very happy with Sirrine and how great she was with our pets! She was very communicative throughout the whole process and came prepared with questions about pet care that made the process easier for both of us. She gave us multiple daily updates and we loved getting pictures while we were away. I would highly recommend her to anyone and we will definitely try to book her again in the future!”

“Kylie did an amazing job with our fur babies as usual! She’s attentive, follows their feeding and potty schedule with no issues and even makes sure the house is taken care of! She’s definitely our forever pet sitter!”

“Kira was very thorough and detail-oriented. All of my animals loved her, even with their strange personalities. She sent me a lot of updates and made sure we knew what was going on all the time. I would definitely hire her again!”

“Ms. v is AMAZING!!! She put my heart at ease an took care of my Ivy Mae like she was her own. I’m very impressed with the care that she provided and will definitely make Ms. V a permanent part of our family. Thank you from the bottom of my heart♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️”

“April took care of our 3 pups. She genuinely loves dogs and it shows in the level of care she gives. She was also very understanding of the current living condition in our house! Thank you so much, April!”

About: Hi! I’ve lived and cared for dogs, cats, and ferrets all throughout my life. I have also worked at a pet resort and volunteered at a pet rescue where I gained experience in dogs and cats of all breeds and sizes, reptiles, and birds. I have experience with giving medications, maintaining (mostly kitty) boundaries, and strict feeding schedules. I also currently have one pitbull (my stepson) and two young 1-year-old kitties (my children) bestowed to me by the Cat Distribution System! However, I have to say I’m partial to small dogs since I grew up with Shih Tzu mixes! I love them all. I schedule my life around theirs. Their whole world is me, so I prioritize their needs. I’ll do whatever they need me to do, one example being I have to now take my cats on their own walks (harness-trained) because they get jealous of their dog sibling. I always offer companionship and play if that’s what the pet’s body language is giving me, or I can just be a warming presence who just provides food and cleanup. I’ve worked with dogs who need 6 walks a day and cats who you need an oven mitt before serving food. I go based off them!
“Pon is a great house sitter. Professional, punctual, caring, super neat and took great care of our home and pets. We trust his capabilities as a dog sitter. He ketp us informed and sent great pictures. He is thoughtful and even printed two cute pictures of our pets. We absolutely recommend Pon!!”

“Excellent experience! The house was just as we left it. I loved the pics and updates of my dogs' play and temperaments. I absolutely recommend Carrie.”

“Honestly the sweetest person! She goes above and beyond. She took great care of my sweet boy and left my home in impeccable condition. She communicated well and voiced concerns she had about my Major during her short stay which was really important for me as he's just experienced a significant change in his health in recent weeks. She was prompt in notifying me of changes in my dog's health as well as communicating with the vet on my behalf while I was experiencing flight delays. When I returned, my home was just as clean as I left it to her and not a hair out of place. My dog was ecstatic to see me but probably secretly wished it was her walking through the door lol. I could tell he warmed up to her quickly. Couldn't recommend her enough and I really hope to have her back for future stays!”

“Elizabeth agreed to take on a last minute request to take care of my old gal one day before leaving on a 10-day trip. Elizabeth stopped by to get acclimated with my dog, and despite my dog being hesitant, Elizabeth agreed to take the job. She was able to stop by daily and provide daily updates via text on how things were going, and it was great to hear how my dog would begin to open up to her as the days went on. I’m glad my dog began to open up and would love to use elizabeth again in the future. Highly recommend!”

“Julie was great the my dogs. They absolutely loved her. She was super responsive before and during the sit. And did a great job of providing pictures and videos throughout the 4 day sit. The house was clean and well cared for. She did a great job and already have her booked for another sit.”

“Melinda was absolutely amazing! She went above and beyond caring for our 3 large pups post-spay, giving them gentle, attentive care every single day. Melinda sent daily pictures and detailed report cards so we always knew how our girls were doing, which gave us complete peace of mind while we were away. Melinda even helped improve our puppies’ leash manners with one-on-one attention and patience — such a thoughtful touch we didn’t expect but deeply appreciated. We couldn’t have asked for a better sitter and will absolutely be booking with her again!”

Kylie is incredibly responsible, loving, and caring. While she took care of our doodle in our home, she communicated consistently and sent tons of pics. She went above and beyond to make sure our fur baby was happy and thriving with daily walks, treats, and tons of snuggles. She is awesome!!!!
Ashlyn was so great, I cannot recommend enough! We have four dogs and she took such great care of them, even with their meds and different foods. She was a great communicator and sent pictures and updates. We came back to a clean house which was a really nice surprise! I'm pretty sure our dogs were a little disappointed seeing us pull up, but we will definitely rebook with her again.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Porter walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Porter maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Porter choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Porter. On Rover:
- 95% of sitters can help with special care needs

- 98% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
