“This was my first time leaving for 10 days on vacation and leaving my dog. She would usually stay with a relative and only over a weekend. I checked out boarding, but couldn't bare to leave her in a kennel for 10 days. That's when I booked Jennifer. All I can say is that Jennifer is a life saver. I was nervous as could be and when we met her and Hector we booked that night. They put us at ease and our Lily loved them as soon as they walked in. Al I can say is that Jennifer made our vacation so much easier and comfortable since I was a wreck leaving her. We got several daily pictures and updates on how she was doing throughout the day. Just constant correspondence and Lily looked so happy and safe in her own environment. Lily enjoyed her time with them and they were totally attentive to her and her needs as well mine as a first time doggy mommy! All I can say is Thank You!!!!! I most definitely will be using Jennifer in the future. Lily already misses her.”

“Nancy pet sit our two rat terriers for a week. They stayed happy and ate well the whole time! Nancy kept us abreast of what was going on and sent photos of babies! She cl and the house and washed the sheets and remade the bed she slept in, I want to recommend Nancy who is looking for a mature and talented pet sitter!!! Laura Kelly”

“Brittany took excellent care of our rambunctious puppy Emmy and old man Gibbs. They both appeared very comfortable with her. She followed routines and communicated daily. She is extremely trustworthy and we will be utilizing her services again.”

“We are absolutely thrilled with Kayla as our dog sitter! She consistently demonstrates remarkable punctuality and her communication skills are top-notch, always keeping us informed. What we particularly adore is how she engages with our dogs, talking to them and making them feel comfortable and loved. Kayla has proven to be incredibly dependable and trustworthy, giving us immense peace of mind whenever we're away. We especially appreciate her effort to send us picture updates, which really brightens our day and lets us see how happy and well-cared for our furry family members are. Beyond these fantastic qualities, Kayla also embodies what we consider a truly great dog sitter to be: she's attentive to details, noticing any changes in our dogs' behavior or routine, and has a genuine love for animals that shines through in her care. Her ability to handle unexpected situations calmly, combined with her responsible and caring nature, makes her an invaluable part of our dogs' lives. We highly recommend Kayla to anyone looking for a truly exceptional and dedicated dog sitter”

“Christine was fantastic! She was incredibly flexible and accommodating with our schedule, and she took wonderful care of Charlotte and Olive. We really appreciated the frequent updates, adorable photos, and excellent communication throughout their stay. It gave us so much peace of mind knowing they were in such good hands. We wouldn’t hesitate to book with Christine again and look forward to having her watch Charlotte and Olive in the future. Highly recommend!”
“Tom sacrificed 2 holidays to take care of my dog. Never has anyone taken such good care of my house and pet. He was able to get my dog to walk 3-4 miles a day and Sampson was sad when Tom left. A true caregiver and passionate about his work and animals”

“Our Ronde loved spending time with Hailey. She was patient with him and his insecurities. We recently adopted Ronde and we were worried about the transition of new people, he did great.”

“I was sick to my stomach thinking about leaving my baby, but Debra was so amazing with our Gunner! I got texts & pictures every day and we came to a happy boy! She even gave us tidbits for training! We’re definitely keeping her in our roster for dog sitting! I can’t give enough praises!!!! Debra you are awesome!”

“Bailey was amazing with our dog, Murphy! He stayed with him for 4 nights and sent daily pictures and updates. We arrived home and the house was cleaner than we left it! Highly recommend!”

“Katie was absolutely incredible and I truly cannot recommend her enough!! From the very start, I could tell Luigi felt comfortable with her which says EVERYTHING!! The moment she got out of her car to greet us, he immediately took to her and that is not something he does with everyone. She provided so many updates and pictures which gave me so much peace of mind while we were away. I never once had to wonder how he was doing. One of the biggest things that stood out to me was her honesty. Instead of just saying everything was perfect (which other sitters have said while I knew he wasn’t perfectly fine), she shared that Luigi definitely missed us. I appreciated that more than anything because it showed how in tune she was with him. Even better, she didn’t just leave it at that. She actively worked to engage him and get him moving which is so important for a dog’s mental well being. She took him on walks, paid close attention to his needs, and truly treated him like her own. You can tell Katie genuinely cares and goes above and beyond. Luigi and I are both so grateful to have found her!!!”

About: I have taken care of animals, big & small since I was a little girl. I have always been the first contact for friends and family that need someone to care for their animals while they’re away! I am available anytime - I am an early riser and late time caregiver. I understand schedules can be rough & I want to give peace of mind! My rescue dog is animal aggressive, so my baby cannot be around others. I would have to come to your home…Dog walking, playing in the yard, feeding, all the attention & snuggles are included!
“Jennifer was amazing! She was extremely efficient and responsive when it came to booking and the actual day of dog sitting. She was willing to take the time to come over ahead of time and meet the pups the day before. We were going to be gone all day for a day trip with our kids and needed someone to come and walk our German Shepherd and Yorkie and feed them dinner. She went over three times during the day and sent us pictures and videos during each visit. It was nice knowing they were in good hands as we are new to the area. We will definitely be using Jennifer again and highly recommend her!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Port Charlotte
Saige was excellent! She took very good care of our precious pug who suffers from separation anxiety. She stayed in our home for 10 days. Our home was as we left it. We are very happy with the level of care. We received photos daily which were reassuring to see our pug being in good hands. We highly recommend Saige.

Laura was great! Very diligent and concientious. She was on time. My dogs loved her and my home was left spotless. She even started the laundry and dishwasher. I would recommend Laura. She is very kind, compassionate and clearly loves and has experience with both dogs and cats.

Both of my mini Australian Shepherd's adored Colin! He was very attentive and played with them a lot! They both slept like babies after he was here for the night! We will definitely use his services again ! Our dogs went to the front door to watch him, leave and looked sad! He was well loved and very respectful at our home!

I was so anxious about having someone I had only met once watch my dogs at my house for almost 2 weeks. I have an epileptic toy poodle who takes daily meds to prevent seizures and an elderly mostly blind and deaf chihuahua. So they are definitely high maintenance. Joseph was absolutely perfect for the job. He answers texts quickly and had no issues giving meds. I would absolutely use him again.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Port Charlotte walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Port Charlotte maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Port Charlotte choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
