“Thanks for providing our girl with live and care while we were away! We were grateful to receive daily updates of photos and our Dane seemed right at home. So relaxed - belly up! Thanks again!”

“Danielle did an amazing job taking care of our very new puppy! She handled everything that a new puppy throws at you very well. Our home and new family member were in great hands with Danielle.”

“Dakota once again took great care of our Gretzky, who has lots of dietary and medication needs. We will absolutely be using Dakota from here on out!”

“Ashley was great! She let me know when she arrived and how Buster greeted her. She kept Buster company for several hours during my longer than usual work day— preventing him from getting too anxious about being alone. You can tell Ashley is a true animal lover as well as being very conscientious and reliable. Will definitely reach out to her again for dog sitting!”
About: I grew up with large dogs and cats and have a beloved rescue cat now. As a young person, I housesat, babysat, and took care of animals throughout my neighborhood and my parents’ friend group. I am used to taking care of my family’s dogs when they are out of town. All I need is an introduction and instructions. I am a kind, mature, and responsible person -- a homeowner myself -- and would be happy to take extra care with simple tasks (like collecting mail and watering plants) while I’m checking on your animals. Let me know how I can help and provide peace of mind while you are away! I am currently working part-time from home and finishing a graduate program at UVA so I have a flexible schedule. I prefer early morning and evening checkins/walks (in case I do need to go into work). I can be available to stay overnight if needed. In my client's home, I really want to provide as much continuity as possible. That means emotionally supporting and reassuring your animals and maintaining their schedules and habits with food and medication. It also means fun, a chance for your companions to experience a new friendly face in a safe environment. In my home: My cat is a rescue that came out of a very difficult situation. She is wonderful and we're so proud of how far she has come from the terrified animal we first adopted. I do not feel that she would welcome other animals into our home at this time, however.
“Out of towner: Abby was amazing at watching our dog for the first time as we came to town for an event. She was so easy to communicate with and took extra great care of our dog for the night. Wish we lived closer so we could use her again!”

“Mackenzie stayed with our high energy dog Scout over the weekend and she was great! They went on lots of walks and we got frequent updates & photos. You can tell she is a dog lover and a natural with animals. Would highly recommend!”

About: I have been taking care of neighbors' dogs since I was nine years old! I have watched many senior dogs and dogs with special routines. I'm currently working on my Master's in Public Health at UVA, so I have plenty of flexibility to keep your dogs company! I am available most weekday evenings and weekends! Happy to care for your dogs however you prefer! Whether that means chill nights and short walks or longer hikes, I am happy to meet the needs of each individual pup. Just let me know what works for you and your family:)

“Gavin was the best! Super detail oriented and brought his own checklist to go over during our meet and greet so he wouldn’t miss anything. He was very flexible and communicative, and even left a very sweet thank you card at the end of his visit. Would definitely recommend his services to anyone else looking for a sitter!”

About: I have experience caring for cats and dogs of all ages, sizes, and energy levels. Whether your pet needs energetic playtime, a 10 mile run, relaxing companionship, or attentive care and routine, I’m happy to provide a safe and comfortable experience while you’re away. I'm currently working part-time, so I have plenty of time to visit and play with your pets! I'm available at most times, 7 days a week. I care for pets by following their usual routines as closely as possible, including feeding schedules, walks, playtime, medication, and any special instructions. In my home, I provide a safe, supervised environment that is clean and has plenty of open space. In a client’s home, I make sure pets feel comfortable in their familiar surroundings while keeping their space clean and secure. I’m happy to provide regular updates and photos so you can see that your pet is happy and well cared for!

“Bryn was great! My pets can both be shy and slow to warm up to people, and they loved her! Both Piper and Beckett ended up snuggling with her while she stayed with them. I appreciated that she stayed overnight with them, left my apartment as clean as it was when she arrived, and even took my trash out for me. Thanks, Bryn!”

“Kyle and Meg were outstanding sitters! They stayed with our pup for 12 days, and we couldn't have been happier with their care for her and for the house. We received pictures and little messages every day, which kept us feeling reassured that all was well. They took her on regular walks and spent plenty of time just snuggling with her and keeping her company. I can't thank them enough for their care and responsibility. They will be the first people I call next time we need someone to care for our pets.”

“This is my first time using Rover. We were visiting the city and Kala was excellent!!!! It was the a horrible storm and she came anyway. After the storm, she took my dog out for a walk and did puppy training with her. Kala sent me pictures of my puppy while in her care. My puppy fell in love with her! She is the best!!! I wished she lived in my home town!! She is worth every penny.”

“Anna was great and our puppy Dot loves her! Anna followed our instructions we left for Dot and was very attentive. She read into Dots needs very well. We are very grateful to have Anna in our lives and have already rebooked with her! Thank you Anna!”

About: I grew up with dogs, cats, goats, chickens, pigs, peacocks. You name it. I’ve been a huge fan of animals since I can remember. I’m super active outside and love taking pups out on hikes or walks. My last dog had to take meds so I’m also extra sensitive to pups that may need more present care. I’ve dog sat and house sat for many years before and just recently decided to give rover a try. I’m also a photographer so pics of your sweet pea will be guaranteed! I’m a photographer so my schedule varies. Sometimes I’m on a shoot or at home editing. I work part time at a restaurant wed-Friday so am unavailable those evenings. I am generous with my love with pets if they want that. If they are shy I will absolutely listen to what they need and let them warm up to me at their own pace. I am clean and respectful of others’ space and strive to make sure your sweet pup gets the activities they deserve.

I currently work as a teacher, but have plenty of extra time available to care for your loved ones. I have open availability, so please feel free to reach out with your preferred time and place. At my home, I make sure they feel comfortable and loved. Some pups need special attention to feel at-home, and I want to make sure anxiety or separation from you won’t cause any issues. I will make sure your pet is properly cared for by sticking to their schedule and making sure to get enough playtime and walk time in. I care for all pets as if they were my own! I will give your pet the most in love and I also love to take photos with my photography experience!
About: I am a longtime dog lover and have grown up with dogs my whole life. My family jokingly calls me the dog whisperer because I love dogs so much and have a special connection with them! I am a dog Mom who recently lost my fur baby, and would be happy to care for your furry friend and love them like my own. I understand how special and important people's dogs are to them. My dog who just passed was 14 with special medical needs and I am experienced in medication administration. I have lots of experience pet sitting for friends and family and can provide the care and love needed while you are away. I’m also happy to take your pup(s) out for walks or assist with anything for drop in visits. They are the special members of our families and deserve the best care! I work a typical M-F 9am-4pm work schedule and am very flexible on weekends and can provide overnights care. I’m happy to work with you on your scheduling needs! I discuss in detail any safety or environmental concerts with clients ahead of time to ensure top safety and care. I have a fenced in yard and provide the proper amount of outdoor time for the dogs I am watching

Frequently asked questions about Rover
As of October 2026, there are 335 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Overton. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Overton walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Overton maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
<b>Tip:</b> Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Overton choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a casual meeting to vet potential sitters and communicate care needs for peace of mind before a booking begins. Only sitters who have never booked with you before can schedule a Meet & Greet on Rover; however, you are welcome to coordinate one in Rover messages with sitters you have previously booked. This can be helpful if you have a new pet or routine you want to go over with your sitter.
Meet & Greets can take place in person or virtually. If you are booking with a sitter for the first time, we recommend in-person Meet & Greets to get a clearer sense of how your sitter interacts with your pet or the new environment.
During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Meet & Greets are a great way to prepare your pet and sitter for longer stays or first-time bookings. Read our tips for your first Meet & Greet .
sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy , which you can find on their profile under their contact information. Sitters may set a same-day, one-, three-, or seven-day cancellation policy. Cancelling within your sitter’s cancellation policy qualifies you for a full refund.
Same-day cancellations for recurring services, which include walks, drop-ins, and day care, follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for pet boarding and house sitting, if you cancel after 12 pm on the applicable cancellation deadline, you’ll receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for any remaining days.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means you will get a full refund and our support team will work with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Overton. On Rover:

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
