“Cameron did a fantastic job taking care of both my home and my tiny fury overlords! He took the time to get to know them, and I swear I think they were disappointed when I came back and Cameron left. 🤷🏼♂️ Will 100% be hiring him again for my upcoming trips.”
“Jeffrey is a wonderful pet sitter and we use him whenever he is available. It's great to go on vacation and not worry one bit about whether our kiddos are being taken care of. He is a great communicator and sends pics regularly. Our home is spotless when we get home and our pets are relaxed and happy. Thank you Jeffrey for another great pet sit.”

About: I’ve been surrounded by animals all my life from my own pets to pets of friends and family, which includes being responsible for them from time to time. I’ve even had prior experience staying overnight and caring for animals that include dogs, cats, and chickens. I am a full time student in law school so my schedule depends on my classes and my school obligations for the week. However, I try hard to manage all bookings I get if the owners are willing to be flexible with times! I can care for your pet by walking them, playing with them, feeding them, hugging them, grooming them, and even staying with them overnight if that makes them more comfortable while you are away.
“Bradley and Stephanlee were amazing!! They stayed at our home for 9 days and cared for our bernedoodle. They were responsive, polite, and frequently sent us updates and pictures. We are so grateful for them and we were able to relax and not worry about our girl!! Definitely recommend.”

About: I have spent my whole life around animals—dogs, cats, bunnies, chickens, snakes, and more! I even bottle-fed a rabbit from birth. I’m comfortable caring for animals of all ages, from playful puppies and kittens to senior pets who need a little extra patience and attention. I’m very attentive to each pet’s individual needs and love making sure they feel safe, comfortable, and cared for while their owners are away. I currently work part-time at a restaurant in the mornings only once or twice a week, so my schedule is very flexible. I’m able to work around your pet’s needs and make sure they receive plenty of attention, care, and time. I’m also happy to communicate ahead of time to make sure my availability works well with your schedule! Your pet’s safety and comfort are my top priorities. I will always follow your instructions and your pet’s normal routine as closely as possible. I’m respectful of your home and will make sure your pets are safe, comfortable, and never left without the care they need. I’ll also keep you updated with messages and pictures so you can feel confident that your pets are happy and well cared for!
About: I’ve always had pets, and started volunteering with a vet at 14 and continued until I left for college. For a time I worked as a ranch hand taking care of 8+ horses and a menagerie of other animals. I am also a fully trained dog groomer and currently work as a veterinary assistant. I am comfortable with my canine friends of all shapes, sizes, and life stages, including those with special needs including medication administration. I currently work 4 days weekly in Mount Pleasant, NC from 7:30am - 5:30pm with a one hour break mid-day and weekends off. My schedule allows me to see your pet at least twice daily (or up to three times depending on distance from my place of employment). I take care to establish a personal relationship with every pet that I meet. Every dog, cat, or fish have their own distinct personality and the better I know them, the more personalized care I can provide. I can feed, water, clean up after pets, administer medication, walk, groom (for an extra fee), and even work on any set training that you would like kept up. My biggest priority is keeping you and your pet happy and healthy.
“We were visiting Damascus VA to bike the VA Creeper Trail and needed someone to stay in our camper with our dog because he has some separation issues. She was there on time, he immediately went to her. She was friendly and caring. When we returned three hours later, he was happy, wagging and tired. She relieved our minds so we could do what we planned and know our pup was in good hands. Highly recommend.”

About: I have taken care of pets since I was little, family and friends always relied on my family. Our pets are very special to us and we can't wait to meet new fur-friends. I have also worked for a professional pet-sitting service in the past. My family works from home so we are able to give them the attention they need. More time for cuddles, walks and play time of course. Our dog hangs out in the office with us while we work and yours will be welcome as well. I have a fenced in yard and pets are always welcome in our home. We can also crate our Jack boy while the pups are getting used to each other. Pets are allowed on certain furniture in the home. I work from home most days so I am able to provide your pet with plenty of bathroom breaks, exercise and attention throughout each day. We just built a home and do not yet have a fence, but we have access to a dog park nearby for safe play throughout the stay.
“Philip and Mallory are very friendly and easy to talk to, and took excellent care of my pup at my house. I got so many pictures and updates and I never had to worry my pup wasn’t being taken care of. My house was also in perfect condition when I returned, and they even washed the used bed sheets and towels. I will definitely use them in the future and you should too!”

“Laura always takes great care of our 2 dogs and 2 cats. She has great communication and we are never worried when she is around. I really appreciate her staying at the house, I think the fur babies are so much more comfortable in their own home. Thank you Laura!”

About: I do have some training in my pocket but definitely not a professional I’ve trained all of my dogs that I’ve had they did great I am available whenever I am needed on sundays I’ll be at church but after that I’m free I have my own car so I’m reliable I can care for pets in the clients home how ever they need me to I follow instructions very well and will do what I am needed to do or asked to do

“Lara was very responsive when setting up the visit and agreed to meet ahead of time to go over some of my pups quirks. She kept me updated throughout her stay and Jambo seems very happy and calm when I returned home. I would definitely book Lara again.”

About: I grew up with having a dog around the house, so I have always loved being around pets. The last two summers I have pet sat for families while they were on vacation. For house sitting services, I am happy to provide overnight care for your pet. There will be times I will leave the home to run errands, go to work, family time and etc. But I will make sure that your pet’s routine is kept in tact and that they get all the snuggles and love they need. I am a full time teacher so once the school year starts my availability will change. I will not be able to provide pet care in my home. But I can provide pet care in a clients home. I am currently a part-time worker at a local pharmacy and a Full-Time college student looking to make extra money while doing what I love. I am more free during week days but can make time on weekends around my work schedule as I typically only work 5-6 hour shifts. I currently can not offer my personal living quarters for care, however I am able to travel up to 40 miles to stay with or check on pets. If you are in need of someone urgently and live outside a 40 mile radius please message me directly and I may be able to still work with you! I will walk, feed, stay with, play with and care for various cats and dog breeds! I also have experience with tropical birds and fish if need be. I will clean up after all animals and leave your home tidy and neat, as well as provide updates at your desired time span i.e (Daily, Hourly, Etc.).
“I fear my two were not as excited when I got home because Shalisha did such an amazing job taking care of them while I was away! She did such a wonderful job caring for my two angels, I didn’t worry once while I was away because her communication was so amazing and my two dogs were so comfortable with her immediately. Would definitely recommend Shalisha to care for your babies for the best care!”

“Loved having Victoria watch my two dogs! She is very knowledgeable about dogs and was very good about communicating with me while I was away. She sent daily updates and photos so I knew my dogs were in very good hands! She is also an extremely nice and friendly person and I trusted her completely to stay in my home. Will be sure to use Victoria in the future!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Oakboro
Five stars isn’t enough! Philip is incredible- friendly, relaxed, and instant friends with new pups. We had never left our puppy for more than a few nights, but had a two week honeymoon planned. Philip came over to meet Cabby before the trip, and his professional but warm attitude put our minds at ease immediately. He sent us pictures and updates while we were gone, gave our girl lots of love, and followed her routine (including medication) to give her stability. He also took great care of our home- I swear it might be cleaner than when we left! Without a doubt, the best experience all-around. We will absolutely be reaching out to Philip and Mallory when we start planning our next trip. Thank you so much, Philip, for taking care of Cabby like your own ❤️ and she sends kisses!

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Oakboro walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Oakboro maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Oakboro choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Oakboro. On Rover:
- 92% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 95% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 96% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
