Abby did a great job watching my dog! We had a chance to meet beforehand & she and my dog got along immediately. It is clear she’s a caring person and it’s important to her to take good care of the animals she’s agreed to walk & watch. I came home to a dog and a house that were both just as I’d left them, it all went wonderfully! Thanks Abby!

This was our third time booking someone through Rover and the first time I can say that I will absolutely rebook this sitter again. We have way more than only two dogs. There are horses, donkeys, cows, chickens, turkeys and two cats. Leaving home is never easy because it is so hard these days finding someone who I can trust to take care of them the way I do. I try to keep things natural and that means more work is involved. Ashlyn met my expectations and kept me posted on how things were going at home, which is so important to me. She was honest and even though we had a misunderstanding, I loved her way of thinking and working through issues that came up. I really don’t want to praise her too much because I like to keep her for myself ??. She is a wonderful young lady to work with who tries hard to meet her customers expectations. Rare find! Thank you, Ashlyn! May God bless and keep you.

About: Hi! I’m Emma! Dogs have been a huge part of my life since I was 4 years old. I grew up with a German Shepherd mix and a Pit Bull mix, so I have experience with big and small, high-energy dogs and understand the attention and exercise they need. I also have experience caring for senior dogs, and they have a special place in my heart. Whether your pup is young and playful or older and prefers a slower pace, I’ll make sure they feel safe, comfortable, loved, and well cared for. I genuinely love being around dogs and would be thrilled to spend time with yours! I’m a full time touring musician, but I have multiple months in the year where I’m at home and don’t have much to do. I’m almost always available on weekdays, and sometimes weekends. I’m also usually available anytime between 8am-8pm I know how important it is to trust someone with both your pet and your home. ☺️ I carefully follow each pet’s routine, make sure they get plenty of attention and exercise, and always prioritize their safety and comfort. I keep a clean environment, doublecheck doors and gates, and communicate regularly with owners through updates and photos. My goal is to make your pet feel as comfortable as possible while giving you peace of mind while you’re away! 🐾

Elizabeth was WONDERFUL. I had a trip out of the country planned for a while but unfortunately my previously booked sitter was ill. I was very hesitant with some one brand new on such short notice. Elizabeth was very understanding and worked with me to set up a meet and greet. I got tons of pictures and updates. She was a SUPERB house guest, as well. I highly recommend Elizabeth for house/dog sitting. She really helped put my mind at ease.

Malia has been fantastic with our nervous shepherd, Selkie. I am very cautious about who I leave her with and Malia handled her fabulously, made sure she had the best time and keep us updated with photos the whole time we were away. It was super reassuring and so happy she could take care of her both times we have been away. Highly recommend and will 100% be calling upon her to pet sit for us in the future!

Only good things to say about Josue. We normally have friends or family watch our dog, Maddie, so we were a little apprehensive using a pet sitting service. But once Maddie met him we knew everything would be fine. She gave him boyfriend eyes the whole time. While we were away Josue was easy to get in touch with, he was reliable, took out the trash, walked her on schedule, kept the house clean. So happy we found him, I think our days of asking favors from friends are over!

About: I’ve cared for dogs and cats for friends and family, including overnight stays, daytime drop-offs, and extended stays. I’m usually the first person people ask for a sitter given that I work remotely! I’ve had pets, both dogs and cats, all my life. I absolutely love animals and treat any as my own. I’m caring, patient, and will definitely give your babies all my love!! I work remotely, so I’m home throughout the day and have a flexible schedule that allows me to give pets plenty of attention and care. I can easily work regular potty breaks, meals, playtime, walks, and cuddles into my day. Given this, I have full availability all week! I have a 1,500 sq. ft. apartment, so there is plenty of room for your furbaby to comfortably roam and play! I share the apartment with my partner, Liam, who is a huge animal lover and very friendly with pets! I’ll always be the primary and sole caregiver for your pet, but he’ll be around the apartment here and there during their stay to give some extra love. :) My community also has an on-site dog park, multiple grassy areas, and paved walking trails, giving us lots of options for potty breaks, walks, and playtime. 🐾 In a client’s home, I’m respectful of their space and follow their instructions and their pet’s normal routine closely. Regardless of where I’m caring for your pet, I make sure doors and gates are secure, pets are appropriately supervised, and they have plenty of opportunities for potty breaks, play, and rest. I’ll also provide regular updates and photos throughout your pet’s stay so you always know your furbaby is safe, happy, and doing well! ❤️

About: My grandmother lives out of town, she has multiple dogs multiple cats, has owned horses, and keeps chickens and i have house sat for her before for well over a week. I’m great with animals and can fit into any schedule she needs, therefore I’m always the one to house sit while she is away. Not because I’m family but because I have the experience and ability. Monday-Thursday I’m completely free. I like to keep my weekends free but if I am wanted/needed arrangements can be made. I prefer to walk in the morning because it allows me to feel energized throughout the day. If there is a specific way I will follow the owners instructions, if left none, I will simply treat the pets how I would want me pets treated because I love my fur babies.

I have never seen him act that way so quickly before. We will absolutely use her again. Very trustworthy.

This was our first in—home pet sitting experience and it couldn’t have worked out better. Ali sent regular updates and pictures to let me know how the dogs were doing. She gave my dog his meds 2x daily as required and let me know each time that she did. We came home to no messes and happy dogs so I can assure you she is a top pick!!

FAQs for House Sitting - Normal

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Normal on Rover is $29.42 per night (as of September 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of September 2026, there are 368 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Normal. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Normal walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Normal maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Normal choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Normal. On Rover:

  • 95% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 95% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 95% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
