“Amanda was great with our kitties while we were away on vacation! She sent lots of updates with photos/videos and was very respectful of our space. Amanda went above and beyond during meal times as our kitties need to be separated and can be picky eaters. I would highly recommend Amanda for any of your pet care needs!”

About: Hi! I'm Cat, and it is my literal pleasure to care for your dog, cat, lizard, bunny, or parrot! What you can expect from me: -Fast, clear, and concise executive-level communication. -Deep breed-specific knowledge of behavior underpinned by my time as a vet receptionist -High quality photos -Easy, flexible scheduling -Complete focus and attention to detail -Genuine joy and enthusiasm to care for your pet In my previous life, I was a design program manager within corporate tech (Meta, Comcast, Pinterest), and I'm thrilled and privileged to pivot into pet care. I have cared for dogs of every size, flavor, and temperament. I have extensive experience training dogs, and quite frankly, I've watched a whole lot of Westminster dog show. In particular, I have specialized experience with shy or nervous dogs and will provide them the space and understanding needed to relax and feel comfortable. I am happy to walk or jog to help burn canine energy. Not afraid to get down in the dirt and play! I have been deeply involved in cat rescue since 2020, when I began working remotely. I have fostered dozens of cats over the years. This includes kittens with complex medical issues. I am very capable at medicating cats and kittens as well as identifying when a cat may be feeling unwell. When you board with me, your pet will not be left alone for more than 1 hour. I only board pets from one household at a time and provide dedicated personal care. When your baby is at my house, they are family. Feel free to reach out with any additional questions. I'm currently working remotely doing project-based contract work, so I have plenty of availability and scheduling flexibility. If boarding or house-sitting, I will be fully available and no pet will be left alone longer than an hour. I have a friendly chihuahua mix (8 lbs) and 2 cats, but if needed, I have plenty of room to give everyone their own space. I have an unfenced backyard with plenty of room to romp. Dogs will always be leashed or tethered in yard.
“Trisha graciously watched my 2 older dogs at the last minute in my home. She was an amazing houseguest, and was incredible with my visually impaired dog who requires various daily medications. My other grumpy dog took to Trisha immediately, which is remarkable as he can be stingy with his affection. Thank you Trisha and we all look forward to seeing you again soon.❤️”

“Hands down best dog sitter I’ve ever had. I’ve never felt more comfortable leaving my baby with anyone else. I received photos and updates throughout the day and the experience with dogs was unmatched. Thank you! Will definitely use again!!!”

About: I've grown up with dogs all my life. My Eagle Scout project was to help create storage and kits for a dog rescue agency and since then I've helped foster 5 dogs and doggysat for numerous friends and family. I give dogs my time and attention and try to pay attention to their preferences and habits. I am a college student so I have flexibility to care for animals during summer and winter breaks. I love being able to chill on the couch next to dogs so they feel cared for and loved. I have a fenced yard and two very sweet dogs who have been mentors to our foster dogs. We have toybaskets everywhere and a regular routine for feeding and care.

“Shannon was such a great sitter. The pups took an instant liking to her. She was excellent at communicating and keeping me updated. I certainly will book her again should the opportunity arise. Highly recommend! Thanks Shannon.”

“Kelly was such a great caretaker for our babies and our house! She is so patient and loving; she took excellent care of everyone; and she gave us frequent photos and updates while staying at our house. We will absolutely ask her to care for our pets again!”

About: I've always been such a huge animal lover and always took care of my own cats, dogs, guinea pigs and birds. I used to watch my family members pets when they would go away and feed them per special instructions and stayed with them as long as I could so they were never lonely. I work full time now but I make my own schedule! I'll be able to be reliable and work around the needs of anyone's babies! In my clients home I always have respect and take care of not only the pets but the home and property when I'm there always.
About: I’ve taken care of cats, small dogs and big dogs. I’ve been taking care of animals more or less since I was a child. I have experience with kittens as young as a week old. Along with my full-time job, I love working with pets whenever I can fit it in! After work usually is the best time for me to check in on your furry friends! I have experience working with young puppies and kittens to older more mature dogs and cats. Taking dogs out in the backyard or out on runs, cleaning cat litter boxes, feeding and snacks are all part of a typical day.

“Kathy stayed with my senior dog and my cat for a few days and followed all instructions and took care of them very well ! She left me updates and the place was exactly how I left it when I got back from my lil vacation! Definitely recommend and would hire her again :)”

About: I have 4 of my own furbabies but have had dogs/cat and a variety of other pets my entire life. I started dog sitting for neighbors, friends and family when I was about 15 years old which included walks, meals, playtime and overnight stays. I’m also comfortable administering insulin injections as well as other medications. I have a true passion for animals especially Shelter and Rescue pups (although all pups are perfect!) I’ve rescued senior pups and puppies, but have a soft spot for a gray snout. I have experience with all types of pets including guinea pigs, birds, bearded dragons and even a hermit crab! Having senior pups of my own, I know how stressful it can be leaving them. I’ve changed diapers, cleaned up messes of all kinds, given sponge baths and administered medication of all kinds and understand the level of patience and compassion taking care of a geriatric fur baby requires. I also enjoy making sure that your home is left cleaner than you left it (no one likes coming home from their vacation and having to clean up after their pet sitter 👎) You'll usually find me at a party sitting on the floor with the dog, asking strangers if I can pet their pups, or sharing unsolicited photos of my own puppers. I’m also very active and love pups that don’t mind daily walks or going on a nice run! I’ve found that dogs make the best running buddies. I've raised puppies of my own, pup-sat for puppies and in multi-pup homes and have experience with the sweet gray-faced seniors. I don’t mind assisting with special needs pups, mobility issues, diaper changes or sponge baths, I’ve done it all. I also have experience with all breeds, from the peanut pups to the big ol' pibbles. Don’t let my small size fool you, I can easily pick up a 150lb pup with ease if needed!
“Kim was a fantastic dog sitter! She was friendly, reliable, and great with my dog! While I was out of town she stayed at my place with my dog. I never felt like I couldn’t reach her or didn’t know what was going on. She reached out regularly with updates and photos which were greatly appreciated. Thank you Kim!”

About: I’ve been pet sitting for 8+ years. My experience includes puppies, full grown dogs, elderly dogs, kittens, & full grown cats. I also have experience in making sure they receive any medications they may need to take. I work remotely, so I can/will be at the house all day, making sure your fur babies are not alone for hours on end and getting plenty of love and attention. I am a very clean house guest. I clean up after myself as well as the animals and respect any boundaries the homeowner may put in place. I make sure to clean the kitchen & bathroom before I leave and will even wash/change the sheets on the bed if requested. ***Please note that I require a meet & greet with you and your pet(s) prior to the care starting***
About: As a lifelong animal lover and pet parent to four rescue dogs, I understand that every pet has their own personality, routine, and needs. What sets me apart is the level of care and attention I give to every animal as if they were my own. I have hands-on experience caring for senior dogs, including my 14-year-old blind Boston Terrier, which has given me patience, compassion, and an understanding of the extra care some pets require. I am also comfortable administering medications and following detailed care instructions to help pets stay happy, healthy, and comfortable while you’re away. Whether your pet loves playtime, long walks, cuddles on the couch, or simply sticking to their usual routine, my goal is to provide a safe, loving, and stress-free experience for both pets and their owners. Pet care fits naturally into my daily routine because caring for animals is something I genuinely enjoy. I work full-time at a local high school as the Principal’s Secretary, with regular hours ending at 1:30 PM during the school year and 1:00 PM during the summer, which allows me plenty of time for afternoon, evening, and overnight pet care. I am available for drop-in visits, walks, feeding, medication administration, and companionship before and after work, and I am happy to provide overnight stays when needed so your pets can maintain their routine and have company for longer periods of time. Weekends are generally wide open, allowing me to dedicate even more time and attention to your pets. My goal is always to provide dependable, loving care that gives both you and your pets peace of mind while you’re away. When caring for pets in a client’s home, I do my best to keep their routine as normal and stress-free as possible. I follow feeding schedules, provide fresh water, administer medications if needed, and make sure pets get the exercise, playtime, and attention they’re used to receiving. Whether your pet enjoys long walks, playing fetch, cuddling on the couch, or simply having someone nearby, I adjust my care to fit their individual needs and personality. I understand that every pet is different, so I take the time to learn their routines, preferences, and any special instructions you provide. My goal is to make your pet feel safe, comfortable, and loved while you’re away, while also giving you peace of mind through dependable and attentive care.
About: I have been around animals and pets my whole life. I love learning the best way to treat and handle my furry companions. My number one goal is keeping my furry companions safe, healthy and happy. My day starts and ends with caring for them in the best way possible. I make sure pets are being fed the best food possible and making sure they are comfortable in our home. I make sure that when I am caring for a pet, that they are comfortable with my presence and I never want to overwhelm them in their own environment or in my own. I like to stay in communication with pet owners and want others pets/babies to be as comfortable as they can within my home and presence

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Middle Island
Jennifer and Emily meet in the morning of the November 15. Emily can be very shy. She immediately like Jennifer. I certainly did too! She is so sweet. She talked so nicely with Emily. We disgusted how she can be shy and she is afraid of most things. Talked food time and bathroom habits. Jennifer left and then came back for the appointed time. Emily was very happy to see her. Jennifer provided many pictures of their time together while I was out. My Emily was happy to see me come back but, not about Jennifer leaving. Emily went to hide after she left. She was upset with me that Jennifer had left. She ignored me for the rest of the night. Jennifer had made quite an impression on her. Jennifer is an unbelievable person. Hiring her would be a blessing to you and your pet. I give her 10 out of 10.

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Middle Island on Rover is $55.5 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 1,772 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Middle Island. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Middle Island walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Middle Island maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Middle Island choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Middle Island. On Rover:
- 90% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 91% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 97% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
