I am new to the Rover community, but I know how important it is to have the right person taking care of your pet(s)! If willing your pet is smaller they could also be crated or free-roam in my room or wherever I may be at the time. Safety is a huge priority at our house. Dogs are never left unattended in our fenced in back yard, me or my husband will always be outside watching them. We also never let the dogs off leash if we take them to the public park/walking trail across the street from our house.
