“We are always happy to trust our cat to Esmeralda. It’s important to us that Kuzya feels comfortable around her and doesn’t mind to interact with her. Esmeralda is reliable and carefully follows all our instructions!”

“Daniela has been so great with our Luna! She’s patient and attentive, and flexed her life to work around Luna’s needs. We are so grateful for her excellent care, detailed updates, and attentiveness. We will definitely be asking Daniela and her husband to help us with our fur babies next time we are out of town!”

“Debbie was fantastic! She bonded with our cat quickly and was very reliable. We appreciated her messages with photos of our cat! She was always quick to respond and so easy to work with. We also really appreciated that she brought in our mail and looked to take out our recycling! We look forward to working with her again.”

“Lehna is truly a Cat Whisperer; our antisocial, anxious cats did so well under her care, could not be more pleased! Her updates were so helpful, and her attention to detail impressive. Cannot recommend enough- if you’re nervous about taking a break from your fur-babies, book Lehna; they’ll be in good hands. ☺️”

“Venora took such good care of my dog while I was away at work! She fed him, let him out, and walked him. She took the time to keep me updated on their progress, which I really appreciated. My dog can be a bit shy but she was able to get him out without any issues. I came home to a happy dog! I appreciate that Venora is trustworthy and reliable. Thanks Venora!”

About: Hi! I’m a friendly, reliable San Carlos–based pet sitter offering in-home pet care, house sitting, overnight care, and drop-in visits. I have over 20 years of experience caring for dogs and cats of all ages and temperaments, and pet sitting is my full time job, so your pets get plenty of attention. Clear communication, regular photo updates, and respectful care of your home are always my priority. Why pet parents choose me: • 🏡 In-home care specialist – house sitting, overnight stays, and drop-ins are my focus. • 🐶🐱 20+ years of experience with dogs and cats • 💊 Comfortable with medications (oral & topical), seniors, puppies, and kittens • 🤍 Patient with shy or reactive pets • ✂️ Light grooming & nail trims available • 📸 Great communication – consistent updates and photos • 🧼 Respectful of your home – clean, organized, and detail-oriented • 🐾 Pet parent myself – 3 cats & 1 dog Pet sitting is currently my full time job, so your pets will have my full attention and I’m happy to work whatever schedule fits your situation! It is of the upmost importance to me that I respect my client’s homes; the best way I’ve found to do that is to listen to what your preferences are, so I make sure I have a clear understanding of the boundaries that should be respected. My baseline goal is always to leave a home better than I found it, just like my mom taught me!
“Tillana was an excellent sitter! She clearly loves animals and loves to get to know their personalities. I’m worried my cats might love her more than me, but I think that’s the best I could have hoped for! We had a hiccup with our travel plans because of one of our cat’s health issue, and she was flexible and ready to learn the changes to the check-in requests. She did 2 regular check-ins daily on our cats, and gave thorough updates on their well-being, their habits, and also monitored health issues. One of our cats needed a pill at each meal and she had no problem making sure he took it. I was most impressed when she noted that one of our cats had eaten slightly less at one check-in! Tillana also took many excellent photos of the kitties!! Will absolutely book her again the next time we are out of town!!”

“Cordigen was wonderful and went above and beyond for our two cats while we were traveling. We massively appreciated the pictures and updates about our cats but also how Cordigen regularly took in packages and made sure everything else was in order in our home. Thank you, Cordigen!!”

“Leo was wonderful with Olaf! He came for a walk and a hang out while I was out for a very long two days of a conference and Olaf took to him right away. He was flexible with our needs and very communicative. He checked in with me before and after his check in and Olaf was very appreciative of the attention. I'd be more than happy to book him again when we need someone to look after Olaf. Thanks Leo!”

“Mario took great care of our dogs- when we were on vacation. We appreciate the communication and photos. We will definitely ask him to help out in the future.”

About: I’ve worked at a doggie daycare for 5 years and we have all types of dogs and puppies. We go on daily outings for 45min or more and always the beach so I’m down for long walks with the doggies I work M-F 8-3 so available anytime after that and weekends! I’m more available on weekdays than weekends. But anything is possible and I can work it out either way I have had an animals all my life and have dealt with the beginning stage of puppies. I have always been the one to look after my dogs and family dogs meaning feeding them, taking them out, etc
“Chelsea is AMAZING! She is so great with our cats—they love her and always come out to greet her despite being very shy. She also accommodated us over a holiday weekend last minute which we will forever be grateful for. She is very communicative, attentive, and considerate. Could not recommend more!”

“Michelle was fantastic! Very communicative and always responds in a timely manner. She went above and beyond to help while I was gone. My pup was so loved and she sent tons of photos so I could see how happy she was! Will definitely book again in the future. Thank you Michelle!!”

About: I've been around animals for as long as I can remember, starting with Ginger, my family's German shepherd and husky mix, and four cats growing up. I later spent about two years volunteering at my local SPCA, working hands-on with dogs of every size and temperament, from bouncy puppies to nervous rescues. I've also had cats of my own as an adult, including two rescues, and fostered kittens before I started traveling. Since then I've cared for pets through farm stays and housesits across Costa Rica, Panama, Spain, and Canada — dogs, cats, chickens, goats, even an adult pet rat. I'm comfortable administering medication, working with anxious or senior animals, and managing multi-pet households. I'm calm, attentive, and treat every home and animal I look after like my own. I'm currently transitioning to the San Mateo County area temporarily starting early November and building my schedule around pet care full-time, so I have plenty of flexibility for house sits, and daily visits, including extended or last-minute stays. I don't currently have a conflicting 9-to-5, which means I can commit fully to a pet's normal routine for the length of a booking rather than fitting care in around other work. Since I focus on house sitting, I stay at your home rather than asking your pet to adjust to a new environment. I follow feeding, medication, and walking routines exactly as instructed, keep the house clean and secure, and send regular photo updates so you can relax while you're away. I don't bring other pets into the home, so your animal gets my full attention for the whole stay.

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
You and your sitter can agree on a care schedule that fits your pet’s routine and the sitter’s availability. Pet Sitting can be booked as a one-time or recurring drop-in visit. If you need overnight care or dog walks, you may also be able to book House Sitting or Dog Walking through Rover with the same sitter, provided they offer those services.
Before booking, confirm:
- the timing, length, and frequency of visits;
- the care instructions the sitter should follow;
- which parts of your pet’s usual routine should be prioritized;
- how often you would like to receive messages, photos, or other updates.
Not every sitter offers the same services, availability, or booking options. Review their profile and discuss the care you need through Rover before booking each service.
If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poop breaks occurred. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available 24/7 by email or chat if you have concerns.
The personalized, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.
Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a lockbox. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalized codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.
If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
A Meet & Greet is a casual meeting to vet potential sitters and communicate care needs for peace of mind before a booking begins. Only sitters who have never booked with you before can schedule a Meet & Greet on Rover; however, you are welcome to coordinate one in Rover messages with sitters you have previously booked. This can be helpful if you have a new pet or routine you want to go over with your sitter.
Meet & Greets can take place in person or virtually. If you are booking with a sitter for the first time, we recommend in-person Meet & Greets to get a clearer sense of how your sitter interacts with your pet or the new environment.
During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Meet & Greets are a great way to prepare your pet and sitter for longer stays or first-time bookings. Read our tips for your first Meet & Greet .
sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy , which you can find on their profile under their contact information. Sitters may set a same-day, one-, three-, or seven-day cancellation policy. Cancelling within your sitter’s cancellation policy qualifies you for a full refund.
Same-day cancellations for recurring services, which include walks, drop-ins, and day care, follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for pet boarding and house sitting, if you cancel after 12 pm on the applicable cancellation deadline, you’ll receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for any remaining days.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means you will get a full refund and our support team will work with you to find a replacement sitter.
