I felt really comfortable leaving my pets and home with Jackie. My pets get really sad when I leave and I knew they were in good hands the moment they met her. I’m happy to have found a pet sitter like Jackie where my pets can build a relationship with someone for when I travel for work and will be booking again right away!

My two dogs are everything to me. They are my babies and I usually have a family member take care of them. There was an emergency that I had to get someone else asap. I’m so happy I trusted Nafisa, my boys loved her. She was in communication with me while I was traveling and it made me feel less worried. She’s amazing!!

She kept us informed with lots of cute pictures and videos throughout the weekend, and was really on top of the specific needs for our senior dog.

Jessie was wonderful! We went on vacation and she stayed with our two pups in our home. She sent me daily updates with pictures, was attentive to their every need (even noticed when George's snorts weren't quite the same and let me know his allergies were kicking in, gave him his Benedryl!), took them for walks, played and snuggled. All their favorite activities! I so appreciated having her with our babies and having piece of mind that they were safe and happy in our home with her. Ten stars!!!!!! Thank you, Jessie!!!!! We'll see you again for sure. :)

Katy house sat our two rescue dogs over a long weekend and she was incredible! She was very detail oriented, followed all instructions and communicated very effectively while we were away, which included great pup pics! Most importantly she took the time to understand one of our dogs specific needs, he was abused in a previous life and can be reactive to new people and she made sure to gain his trust. She is very confident with dogs (both large and small since we have both) and even cleaned our house so that we came home to a tidier space than we left. She went above and beyond, I highly recommend her!!

About: I love animals and getting energy out with them! Playing, going on walks, and keeping them busy and safe is my priority! I am detail-oriented so I will be sure to follow your directions. I work part time and am looking for a side job that I love and keeps me active! I’m dedicated to giving the best care with the time I have. Ideally I would keep pets at their house or go for walks close by but I have a fenced in back yard that we might visit on walks if permitted by owner! I don’t have my own car but I do drive so I’m open for walks in new areas as well (waterfront, dog parks, etc).

About: Besides caring for my childhood dog, Houston, since I was 11 years old, I formally became very involved in pet care during college. I joined an organization called 4 Paws for Ability that raises and trains service dogs for veterans and children with disabilities. I began as a sitter for the primary trainers on campus, watching their dog for a couple of hours during the day. Beginning my junior year, I began raising Red through 4 Paws, a 10 week old Golden-lab. I raised Red, while juggling class and work, until he was 1.5 years old and went off to advanced training. He now works as a facility dog at Dayton Children's Hospital. Since graduating, I remain involved with pet sitting for family and friends. I have sat my boss's daughter's cats (interesting, I know) and my aunt's puppy for a week. I love taking pictures of any and all animals, so expect photo updates often! I currently am a first year medical student here in Buffalo. Class is usually over by mid-day during most week days, making me very available for a walk or drop in visit. Furthermore, my weekends are pretty open for the time being, so I'd love to keep your pets company as a house sitter and have a relaxing (or active) weekend with them. I am very observant when it comes to things that are potentially harmful in reach of the pet. I will ensure your pet does not get into anything they shouldn't! Also, I have experience with ensuring dogs are safe in their kennel prior to leaving so your fur baby and home are safe.

One of our dogs is a senior that has many needs and Sarah was able to handle all of the medications with her ease! She also did a photo shoot with our dogs and the photos were amazing!

About: Everyone will say that they love dogs but not only do I love dogs but all animals. I have worked in 4 AZA accredited zoos as well as Walt Disney World. I have worked with dogs, cats, lizards, snakes, donkeys, llamas and many more animals. I am able to communicate well with people about their animals as well as recognize the body language of dogs to understand if they're feeling tired, anxious etc. I also understand the patience that comes with animals, especially dogs that may feel timid around new people, and the need to calmly wait for them to accept you. I am mainly available at night on weekends and weekdays but am available anytime during the day on Saturday and Sundays. I am energetic and can keep up with many dogs by running, playing, walking long distances and more! Pet care fits into my routine very well. I’m available any night on weekends and weekdays and am available all day on Saturdays and Sundays. While caring for pets in a clients home I am respectful of their space and treat it just like I would treat my own home.

Caitlin is the best! My fiance and I were naturally a little nervous to use Rover for the first time, but we needed a pet sitter to stay at our house to care for our four-year-old husky lab mix Lucy and our six chickens. Caitlin stood out to us for her excellent reviews and years of professional experience working with animals. From the moment we inquired about her availability, she was very responsive and professional. We loved that she requested a meet & greet before we agreed to the pet sitting. She asked great questions that we hadn't even thought to mention prior to pet sitting. During pet sitting, she went above and beyond to help us out by not only taking great care of Lucy, but taking care of our chickens daily and helping out with our pool which we had filling while we were away. She sent us daily photos of Lucy. Lucy even snuck into our guest room to cuddle with Caitlin every night, which she only does with people who she feels comfortable with. We definitely want to work with Caitlin again and will recommend her to our family and friends. Thanks Caitlin!!

FAQs for House Sitting - Lackawanna

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Lackawanna on Rover is $44.4 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of August 2026, there are 573 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Lackawanna. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Lackawanna walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Lackawanna maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Lackawanna choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Lackawanna. On Rover:

  • 91% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 98% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 87% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
