“Luke and Rachel were both super communicative and took great care of the whole crew at our house. Would trust them anytime to hang with our animals while we're away!”

“Camille and Jordan were fantastic with our house and animals (elderly dog, cat and rabbit)! They were prompt in responding and making sure they had the information needed to take the best care of our animals. They were on time and communicated with us as needed. Our animals are our babies and they seemed perfectly comfortable and happy with Camille and Jordan so we will definitely be booking again!”

“Chioma took good care of our dogs. The two dogs were rescued a few months ago from a puppy mill, and have special needs due to how they had been treated. Chioma understood their needs, and upon our return, the dogs were thriving even more than before we left. The house was clean and everything in order. Thank you Chioma!”

“This was our first time booking with Joel and he did an amazing job watching our senior lab dog and staying at our house. He also fed our bearded dragon for us which was appreciated! He was great at communicating and left everything so clean and spotless! We could tell our dog was well cared for 🥰”

“This is our third time with Anna and Griffin has a wonderful time with her. He’s still got major separation anxiety and keeps one eye on the door for us to come home, but she makes him comfortable and busy and the same time.”

“After meeting with Katherine before our trip, we were very comfortable having her pet/house sit while we went on a rare vacation. Prompt to arrive, always attentive to our dogs, great feedback during our travels, and greeted us on our return with a clean house and happy dogs. Needless to say, our next 2 mini vacations are booked with Katherine as our 'security blanket'.”

“Gabe stayed at our house with our dog over the Christmas holiday and did a wonderful job taking care of her, including taking her on a lot of walks and giving her a lot of affection. He was very communicative throughout the process, including sharing helpful updates and photos during our trip. It can be hard to leave your dog in someone’s care and it made such a difference to know she was in good hands with Gabe. We would trust Gabe to stay with her again without hesitation!”

“Emma was great! She took such good care of our special needs pup and elderly cat. She asked great questions and followed everything we asked. We got a bunch of updates and pictures, so nice. Will absolutely be booking with her again!”

“Norah was very attentive and wanted to make sure she was giving our pets the best care while we were gone. She was so friendly, organized and thorough in understanding any needs our pets had.”

“We needed a last minute sitter to fly south for a funeral and was so glad Keely had availability! She took time to swing by last minute and meet our fearful girl plus our other two crazies. House was exactly how we left it and all 3 dogs seemed happy and well cared for in our absence.”

About: I’ve had all sorts of animals in my life and always have enjoyed the love and care an animal is able to give us! My dad and I had an amazing black lab, Willie, while I was growing up. When Willie got older, I helped with some of his senior care such as changing his diapers. My dad and I also had two guinea pigs while I was in high school, they were so fun and I loved how much personality they had. My mom was in the Southern area of the states for about a year, and ended up coming back to Minnesota with two cats and moved in with me! I partner with my mom for their every-day care (feeding, cleaning litter box, cutting nails) often. I have also cat-sat for my friend, whose kitty had just gotten several teeth removed - so she needed some oral medications while I was caring for her. This included pill and syringe medications. As for pets that are solely my own, I have a 5-year-old horse named Atlas that I purchased after graduating from college. He has been such an amazing learning experience and I appreciate our partnership so much. I currently work full-time, and have a bit of a varying schedule day-to-day but am often out of the house for 8+ hours a day. For this reason I’m unsure if house-sitting dogs would be a great fit for my weekday schedule unless they were close by to my work, where I could stop by during my lunch and give them a potty break. Otherwise could totally do weekends! My work schedule typically hasn’t been obstructive to cat care, unless the cat is fed in small portions more than twice a day. Then, I may need to stop in during my lunch break - or find another way to split their feedings appropriately. I strive to care for any pet just as their owner would. I do know some animals are wary of strangers and I will respect your pet’s boundaries - so if they seem shy or nervous about me, I will absolutely give them space. If an animal is social and excited, I am more than happy to give pets, cuddle, and play! Additionally, more than happy to clean up any litter boxes (cats) or outside excrement (dogs).
“Absolutely fantastic sitter. She was a great communicator, the dogs felt loved and taken care of. The house was left in great condition. She is our “go to” for pet sitting going forward for our frenchie and two Bostons.”

“I’m extremely pleased with how things went when Karen watched our dog, Valere. She was attentive, sent me photos daily, and made sure she was giving our girl the best of care! I loved her open communication and felt that I could ask her any time about how Val was doing. I will absolutely be requesting her to watch Val again. Shes our favorite sitter now! There’s nothing better than to be able to leave and know your dog is being taken care of the way you would do it yourself. I highly recommend Karen!”

“Penny was great. She really listened during our meet and greet. The dogs (1 senior cocker spaniel and 1 middle aged active beagle) really seemed to love her. We came home to happy dogs and a well cared for house.”

About: I have had pets in my life since childhood! I grew up in a busy home full of different animals (dogs, cats, fish, lizards, bunnies, birds, etc.) and have cared for animals of all different ages and abilities. I also have experience volunteering at an animal clinic. I work hybrid so am available every day except tuesday’s and wednesdays during the day. I am available any night overnight and on weekends too. I adjust my care based on the fur babies need. If they are more active, I am able to do walks often, but if they are older, I am happy to lounge around! I am used to working on a feeding schedule so strict feeding/medicine schedules are no concern for me.
“Michelle was fantastic with my pup, who has a few quirks and can be reactive on walks. She truly put my mind at ease and was patient, confident, and communicative the whole time. My pup clearly felt comfortable and happy with her - I highly recommend Michelle to anyone looking for a caring and capable sitter!”

“Very sweet and fabulous with our dog who has a lot of separation anxiety. Our dog loved her and when I came home, she didn’t go crazy like usual if I leave the house for a bit, which means she wasn’t feeling aa anxious. I really appreciate the care for our dog and look forward to booking her again!”

“Olivia has proven herself to be a reliable, dedicated, and generally awesome caretaker for our finicky dogs and cat while we were away, allowing us to enjoy our trip without worrying about a thing! We hope she is available the next time we have to head out of town, as she will be our go-to for any check-ins or pet sitting. We would recommend her without hesitation!”

Gabby is fantastic! Very communicative and it’s clear she’s passionate about animal care. She stayed at our house for 4 nights and provided multiple updates each day, including pictures. It was so nice knowing they were safe and in good hands while we were on vacation. She left our house super clean and even put the sheets in the laundry- which was not expected but definitely appreciated. We will continue to book with her for our boarding and drop-in visit needs!

Anna was SUPER attentive and kept us in the loop everyday with pictures and updates. She sent a picture of a very contented (who is usually quite anxious) Teddy getting a belly rub! Highly recommend her for housesitting and we would rebook again when we’re out of town again! I

It was great having Shawnda care for our 2 dogs this past weekend. From the meet and greet to while we were away, she communicated as needed and made sure she knew the both dogs routines. It was a plus that she was able to stay over night. She also helped with watering plants and vacuuming infamous hair. We will definitely schedule again with Shawnda. One other thing we appreciate is Shawnda’s experience with elderly dogs.

Katrina always takes great care of our kitties. We were on an extended trip, and she took care of our house and kept us updated on our cats. One cat is 16 years old with kidney disease, and she made sure to keep us informed on how she was doing. We were able relax and enjoy our trip knowing our girls were well taken care of with Katrina.

Courtney was absolutely awesome with Bubba. We got pictures every day. She took him for many walks and we could tell he was well loved while we were out of town. She left the house clean and picked up. We will definitely be hiring Courtney again!! She is the best!

Elli was really wonderful to work with. She was communicative and I really appreciated that she was proactive about setting up meet and greets ahead of the stay to get to know our dog and to make sure she had all the information she need to house and dog sit. She was very friendly and caring with our dog and we would absolutely book with Elli again.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Gem Lake walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Gem Lake maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Gem Lake choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Gem Lake. On Rover:
- 94% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 97% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 98% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
