“Kate was great! I have never left my dogs with a stranger before and right when I met Kate I knew everything would be fine. She gave updates every day while we were gone and she even washed the bedding and remade the bed before she left (which I would never expect her to do)! The house was exactly how we had left it and I could tell the dogs had gotten plenty of attention while we were gone. Will definitely hire her again!”

“Caitlynn was kind, responsible, and a great communicator. She walked the dogs, house sat overnight, and sent pictures a few different times. I felt at ease with my dogs under her care.”

“Brittaney took amazing care of our dog Mady this week. She was reliable, responsive, and clearly treats pets like her own. We came home to a happy and well cared for pup, which tells me she felt safe and comfortable the whole time. Brittaney kept me updated and made the entire experience easy and stress-free. I’d absolutely book with her again and would recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy, caring sitter.”

“Hope was very easy to work with while I was out of town and communicated regular updates on my cats for me. She took great care of them and made sure they got plenty of love. Definitely recommend her services any time.”

“Leaving your fur babies is never easy but after meeting Shaun I felt much better. He really has a way with dogs. Ours loved him at the first visit. While we were away he sent pictures and kept us up to date with them, he took them for walks every day. He really bonded with them and we felt good with him watching our home and our dogs. Definitely would hire Shaun again 100%. Thank you Shaun for taking the best care of Axel and Whiskey!”

“Emma is who I look to first for sitting our two cats. It's hard to know if sitters are "cat people" but with Emma you can definitely tell. Communication is excellent and I don't feel anxious when I leave. Thanks again Emma!”

“Couldn’t have been more pleased. Emily was great and Ellie did well. I would definitely use the service again. I haven’t traveled in a long time just because I didn’t want to leave my dog in a kennel. This was a great experience and I will definitely do it again.”
“Traci was absolutely incredible and we are so grateful for the love and care she gave our sweet old mastiff. She was loving and attentive and was sending us pictures and updates daily. We came home to a happy and relaxed dog, clean home, watered plants and fed fish. Thank you so much again, Traci!”

“This wonderful couple did a fabulous job sitting our house and our sweet Toby. They are very attentive and kept our home and our dog in tip-top shape. We recommend them without hesitation or qualification. They are our new favorites and soon to be recurring sitters.”

“Ciera has quickly become our dog’s favorite person. She did an excellent job helping Sundance feel safe, happy, and comfortable. We always get anxious leaving him, but she kept us constantly updated with messages and pictures. Ciera is the BEST sitter you could get on Rover. 10/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️”

“Ally is a fantastic Rover. Her attention to detail, understanding of dogs, and compassion for people are top notch. She sends lots of photos and is very clean. She even made sure my bedding was changed so I could come home and go straight to bed at 2 AM. She’s active and I can recommend her for high energy dogs and dogs with special needs.”

“Michael preformed as promised. He arrived in a timely manor. He was attentive to the dogs and gave them their eye drops without issue. Michael left the house clean and even washed and changed the sheets.”

“We left our 4 dogs, cat, 4 parrots, cockatiel, 2 snakes, turkey, chicken and ducks (and newly hatched baby ducks) for almost a full two weeks in the loving care of these two amazing ladies! We got photos, updates, and a carefree vacation..and the animals got just as much (if not more) love than they do on the daily! We HIGHLY recommend these two for pet/house sitting!! We will definitely be using them for all our needs. Worth every cent!”

“You just couldn’t ask for a better pet sitter! Laramie is so trustworthy, she’s simply awesome! My small dogs loved her! I’m so grateful for having found her! We’ll DEFINITELY be using her again if she’ll have us. Thank you!!!!!”

“Kristi was AH-mazing with my pups. I have 2 big active dogs, and 1 senior dog, and she made all of them feel comfortable, loved, and active. She sent so many pictures of them enjoying walks, swims, and treats. They also felt so comfortable with her they always wanted to lay right on top of her to get as close as they could. She did a phenomenal job, and I am so thrilled she will be watching them on all of my other planned trips. ☺️”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Garden City
Quyanna is amazing! She gave our cat MEDS (&cat people know how challenging that can be), and left our home cleaner than she found it, even washing and replacing sheets prior to leaving. Our kitty was so happy to have company that she was annoyed with how much my partner & I wanted to snuggle her when we got home. So grateful!

Svea was outstanding watching our house and 4 pets for almost two weeks. She went above and beyond taking care of everything. Dog walks for the younger pup, extra care for the old dog, pets for cats, and letting whatever pet wanted to sleep with her do so. The pictures showed happy pets and we came home to watered plants. Perfect! Svea was wonderful and we'll definitely be using her again.
Josie took such good care of our Mei Mei. She was attentive and communicative, sending lots of updates so we never worried. When we returned home, Mei Mei seemed content and the house was clean. Even our plants looked healthy and happy! Josie is a fantastic pet sitter and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her to other pet owners. Five stars!

Holly did a fabulous job taking care of Lucca and Cyrus while we were out of town! Lucca has a medical needs that Holly double and triple checked were properly fulfilled to make sure she was thriving in her care. She was so communicative and gave us daily videos and pictures of the pups, gave Cyrus some extra grooming TLC and bought them sweet little toys for a bit of extra fun and stimulation! Will totally be calling Holly again!

Kara did such an amazing job house sitting for us, and taking care of our most precious cat KOKO. Kara was detail oriented during our experience, and has a calm energy that our cat responded well to. I appreciated that we got pictures of KOKO along the way! Would highly recommend for those looking for a house /cat sitter :)

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Garden City walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Garden City maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Garden City choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
