“Liz was such an amazing caregiver for our high energy dog Pepper and Snakey (a not so high energy snake). I loved getting the photos and the checkins. She was responsive and super easy to connect with. I will definitely be asking her back.”

“I highly recommend Anna. She is very responsible and was great with my 2 dogs. She updated me regularly about how my pups were doing. Definitely a huge peace of mind knowing my home and fur babies were in such good hands.”

“Michael took great care of Lola and Ringo in our home. They were as happy as can be when we got home after 8 days. It was great knowing that they were happy and being taken great care of while we were on vacation. We definitely recommend Michael.”

“Emily is awesome!!! She went above and beyond dragging in a huge box from the porch! She kept me updated on my pups and how they were doing. This means everything to me!! I just got a new puppy and I didn’t want to leave him but Emily made it easy! Thank you Emily!!”

“Augusta was super nice to Frankie and patient with her as it takes her a while to warm up to others. Augusta also is great at communicating what days she's available to dogs sit and what times work for her. She asks clear questions before her stay and follows any directions about feeding times or medication Frankie may need.”

“Cynthia is the best! She is not only a lovely person, she is kind, conscientious, communicative and caring. She sent us frequent emails and photos of our pup while we were away, which we appreciated. It was delightful to come home to a very happy dog and immaculate house. I’d give 10 stars if I could. Thank you, Cynthia!”

“Amazing communication and photos throughout the stay! We even had some irrigation issues that she helped with while we were out! We could tell Walt was well taken care of, as was the house!!”

“Marisa house sat taking care of my crazy pack of dogs. I have four and they all have varying needs as well as energy levels. My 16.5 year old pomeranian is considered "hospice" and requires a lot of extra care, medications and diapers. My other three include two "teenage" age chocolate labs! Marisa was WONDERFUL with all of them. With my pom its so stressful to travel not knowing if he will get all his medications, will he eat, Marisa took so much of that stress off of me. She knew how to deal with his medications as well as how important it was that he get them. I honestly cannot say enough good things about our experience with Maris she was amazing and we plan to book her again!”

“Caroline is the best pet sitter I have ever had. I had a wedding weekend and Caroline stayed at my house with my two dogs Utah and Bodey. My French Bulldog Bodey can be difficult at times and he needs to warm up to new people in his life. Caroline gave him love and affection until Bodey finally gave in to her ways. Caroline showed patience and poise while watching him. As a pet owner who has a dog like Bodey, it put me at ease knowing he was in terrific hands. Bodey even had his "moments" with Caroline but she handled it perfectly. I trust Caroline full heartedly to take care of my two little guys. Lastly, Caroline took amazing care of my place while I was gone. It was spotless upon my return.”

“Elliot was great! Easy communication, kept me updated on the weekend, and I came home to a tidy and clean house. I would be happy to have Elliot back to care for Scout.”

“Nikki and Brittney did a great job watching our dogs over the weekend. We returned home to a cleaner home than the one we left! 10/10 would recommend.”

“Aaron you were great! You kept us informed about what was going on at home and we truly appreciate the level of service you provided. Thank you for taking care of the extra animals/birds! And the generous gift! We will enjoy them!!!”

“Natasha did a great job caring for my dog Kaina during an extended trip away. I was anxious about being gone so long because it was the longest I have ever been away from Kaina, so I left very detailed instructions for her care and asked for extra pictures during my time away. Natasha stayed at our house was very accommodating to all of my requests. She would send updates about how things were going each day and was always quick to respond to my messages. I will definitely be requesting her help for Kaina again in the future!”

“Dyllan took excellent care of my home as well as my dog Hazel while I was away the week of Thanksgiving. She sent me pictures every day and Hazel looked relaxed and happy. Dyllan even laundered the sheets and towels before she left, which was a pleasant surprise and exceeded my expectations. I couldn't have asked for a better experience and I look forward to asking her to house sit for Hazel in the future. Thank you, Dyllan!”

“We are so grateful we booked Brooke and Dylan for our 8 night, 9 day trip! We were super impressed right from our meet and greet at how attentive they were to our dogs' routines, preferences and info about their personalities. They both have such nurturing personalities and they took excellent care of our dogs, sending frequent updates and pictures. Our senior dog requires special care and both dogs often go through separation anxiety, but because they spent so much time with them, it really helped the dogs relax and gave us great peace of mind as well. We returned and our house was tidy and the dogs were happy. We give them our highest recommendation for your pet sitting needs!”
“Skylar is a great dog sitter to our sometimes reactive and protective dog. She is very responsive, proactively lets you know how your dog is doing and administers drugs right on schedule. Highly recommend.”

“Our experience with Brittaney exceeded ALL our expectations! The house was most definitely cleaner than we had left it and the dogs were happy, well fed and taken care of! Brittaney let us know each day via photos and messages how the dogs were doing which was very comforting. Brittaney is a very loving person and well educated in animal science. After our initial meet and greet, one of our more aloof dogs showed immediate affection towards Brittaney! After meeting Brittaney, we felt confident the dogs would be happy and well taken care of and we proceeded to have a carefree vacation! Yay! We will most definitely ask Brittaney back again.”
“Kristi was great! She definitely has the qualities to put your mind at ease leaving your family members in her care while you are away. She was responsive and followed through with what we expected for care for our dogs. I’ve had a few disappointments with sitters in the past with saying one thing and not following through. Kristi helped with this anxiety leaving town. So happy that we found a new friend for the gang!”

Great communication, flexible and a true animal person! Cadie asked thoughtful questions about our dogs and kept in touch with me while we were away. She even asked about watering plants and was willing to feed my son’s fish that I didn’t think about until the day we left on vacation! I would definitely hire Cadie again to watch our dogs and stay in our home!

We had an amazing experience with Anastasia. They took incredible care of our dogs, kept us updated with regular photos, and followed all care instructions perfectly. Our pups seemed happy, and well-loved the entire time. We highly recommend Anastasia and will absolutely book them again

First, I want to thank Rover for creating and offering such a valuable service. Secondly, I want to thank Suzanne for providing exceptional care to Bob and our home during our week-long vacation. During our absence, we had an issue that we needed Suzanne's help in resolving and she did so with a can-do attitude and we were able to resolve it over the phone. That was invaluable but Suzanne took it all in stride. Our home and Bob were provided top-notch care and simply cannot say enough what a great match Suzanne was for our home and Bob. Thank you Suzanne for also feeding the hummingbirds and taking such good care of the place. We highly recommend you for house/pet sitting and would be a reference for you at any time! All the best, Jo Ann and Ross

Holly was amazing! She took such good care of our dog, who is anxious and requires regular medications. She was very attentive and so sweet. Holly also sent regular updates and left our house very neat. I would definitely recommend her and would love to have her watch our dog again!

Taylir took care of our high energy dogs while we were out of the country for two weeks, and did such an incredible job. She was very communicative and went above and beyond in caring for our dogs, who absolutely loved her. We have never felt more comfortable with someone dog/house sitting, and would not hesitate to have her look after our dogs again.

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Garden City on Rover is $43.29 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 945 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Garden City. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Garden City walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Garden City maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Garden City choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Garden City. On Rover:
- 92% of sitters can help with special care needs

- 98% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
