“Gillian is reliable and a great communicator. She was very good with my pup that has high energy. I would definitely recommend her and have her pet sit my corgi again!”

“Ana was awesome! She was really positive and asked a bunch of questions to make sure she knew everything she needed to know to take care of our XL puppy. She was super flexible and willing to work with us and kept us well-updated while we were away. We'll definitely reach out to her again the next time we have to travel!”

“Alma was great caring for my cat! She spent time sitting with her and petting her, which is what my cat needs. She also kindly did all the little extra things I asked like watering plants. I would hire her again!”

About: I approach each dog as individuals to understand their personalities. As a pet parent, I’ve owned five dogs, three of which unfortunately have moved on to the rainbow bridge. I currently have a 5 year old Aussie and a 3 year old border collie mix, both a calm and friendly to dogs, cats, and people. I work a regular job from 8am - 4:30pm M-F, with remote work from W-F. My availability are any remote days and weekends. I can watch your dogs at home during those days or check in on them after work hours and anytime in the weekends. I spoil my dogs and cats. I make sure to play with them daily and take them for walks. Having an Aussie and border collie demands it! Both our dogs know when it’s bed time and sleep in our bedroom. Luna the border collie sleeps in our bed, the best snuggle bug ever.
“Natalie was kind, compassionate, and reliable as a pet sitter. She cared for our senior cat for 12 days and took great care of him. We got updates at every visit and she took care of special requests. It was easy to communicate with Natalie, and we would trust her to care for our family pets again in the future! Thank you so much Natalie. ♥️”

“If I could give MORE than 5 stars I would. Natalie was fantastic with my cats, and took special care to make sure both of them were happy and comfortable throughout our trip. She gave us very detailed drop in notes, played with our kitten to wear him out, and treated our special needs older cat with as much care as we would. It's clear she cares for each animal she watches over. Thank you so much again, Natalie!!”

About: Animals have been part of my life since I was ten, and cats especially are my specialty — I've raised them from kittenhood through their senior years, including hands-on experience with age-related health needs and end-of-life care. That depth of experience means I recognize subtle changes in behavior or health long before they become emergencies, and I'm comfortable coordinating vet visits when something comes up. What really sets me apart is how seriously I take the "sitting" part of house sitting. I don't just check boxes — I send regular photos and updates, keep the home exactly as I found it (dishes done, plants watered, trash handled), and treat every pet like my own. Past clients have described coming home to a spotless house and visibly happy, relaxed animals. For me, this isn't a side gig — it's a genuine extension of how I already care for the world around me. I work full-time, so drop-in visits fit best on Friday afternoons and weekends. For housesitting assignments, I'm available to stay overnight, giving pets consistent companionship around my workday for the full duration of the sit. I keep pets on their regular schedule—feeding, medications, and walks or playtime as needed—while making sure they get plenty of affection and interaction. I send pet parents regular updates so they can relax while away, and I keep the space tidy so animals stay in a calm, comfortable environment.

“Krystal is my go-to walker and sitter when we leave on vacation. My dog is an accident magnet and despite unforeseen complications, Krystal stays cool under pressure and is flexible and communicative. Your pets are in good hands with her!”

About: I have owned and cared for cats and dogs my entire life. I’ve also looked after other pets for friends and family while they were away on vacation. I genuinely love animals and understand the importance of providing them with attention, care, and companionship. Whether it’s feeding, walking, playtime, or simply keeping them company, I’m here to help and ensure your pets are well cared for while you’re away. I will help care for your pets while you are on vacation or unable to care for your pets while you are at work or need a short break. I have a gate , my pets all stay inside, my big dog stays outside in the back and on nice days he will come to the front yard since it’s fence in.
“Stephanie was fantastic! She was punctual, polite, and very thorough, asking all the right questions to make sure our pets were well taken care of. She was incredibly kind and attentive to our dogs, and it was clear that she genuinely cared about them. Stephanie was a huge help while we were away on our camping trip. She not only took great care of our dogs, but also fed our pet betta fish and made sure Luna received her medication. Knowing that everything was being handled while we were away gave us great peace of mind. We really appreciate how responsible, caring, and communicative Stephanie was. We would definitely reach out to her again the next time we need someone to care for our pets. Highly recommend her!”

“Five stars isn't enough for Maria! She took care of our German Shepherd, Husky, and our flock of chickens while we were away, and she exceeded every expectation. Managing two high energy dogs alongside chickens is no easy task, but Maria handled it with complete ease, professionalism, and care. When we returned, all of our animals were happy, relaxed, and in perfect health.Finding someone trustworthy who can seamlessly handle both large dog breeds and farm animals is rare. Maria is a absolute gem, and we will definitely be booking her again. Highly recommended!”

“Very kind and communicative! Stayed with our pups in a hotel while we went to a family wedding. Felt very confident leaving our semi anxious dogs in her care. Highly recommend!”

About: I’ve taken care of dogs my entire life and have always been obsessed with animals. I went into accounting as a career, but am looking to be able to pursue my passion of working with animals through other avenues, such as this! I currently work part time so I have plenty of time to care for and play with your pups! I have a dog of my own who I walk, take to the park and hike with almost every day! I do not have a yard, but I have a fenced in patio with fake grass, which my dog loves to use as a yard! It’s spacious, comfortable with lounge chairs, which my dog uses to sunbathe everyday!
About: I’ve owned dogs and cats all my life. All my dogs have been trained well and are very active. I walk my dog daily and love being outdoors. I have been dog sitting and dog walking for a few years for in app clients but I’ve been doing it my whole life. Our family has a golden retriever and a cat. The cat is indoor only and doesn’t prefer to interact with dogs usually. I work full time as a teacher but my wife (also on this app) works from home 3 days a week. I am off on summer break and have other breaks throughout the year. My dogs walks usually happen early in the morning or after dinner time. We play with and brush our dog and cat. We have a toddler who loves animals. We have a small backyard with grassy area. We have a nice neighborhood and walk dogs throughout. We live across the street from a huge park that the dog and child love to visit.

My family will enjoy taking care of your pets. Your pet will be in good care. We love our animals ❤️ I have a big fenced yard , and have a crate. About: I'm new to Rover, but well-experienced in cat care. My home is like a ready-made daycare for the three of them. I'm like that helicopter mom who's always making sure my babies are safe and well cared for, and I will do the same for your pets. In the past, not only have I taken care of my animals, but I have also looked after strays walking through my apartment building. Especially during kitten season, mama cats need help the most. And if the neighbor's cat strays my way, I don't mind giving them a treat and some companionship, too. That's how I am with the furry ones; I'm there for them. And I will look forward to doing the same for your pets if you hire me for drop-in visits. I also want to point out that my services are for cats, but I would be more than happy to tend to your dog the same way if you have one at no additional charge right now. And that includes feedings, replenishing the water bowl, playing with them, administering meds (topical, not injections), and a little grooming. And because this is a DIV, sorry, I won't be doing dog walking. This saves me time in order to make it to my next client. Because I'm new at this, I prefer to do drop-in visits right now. I can do drop-in visits up to six days a week, in the afternoon. Just let me know how many days out of the six you need me. When hired, I will give your pet or pets plenty of play time and TLC. If you have specific instructions, such as how to administer meds, please let me know. I would also like to point out that, because I'm new here at Rover, I don't have any testimonials. Therefore, I'm willing to give you the best service possible and exchange for one.
Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Freeport
Lauren did a great job with Ollie. Ollie bonded with her right away. It was really nice to know that Ollie was happy while I was out of town. I would recommend Lauren without question to anyone. She is friendly, efficient, and truly loves to take care of animals. I will not hesitate to use her again in the future. Thank You Lauren!

Alma is incredibly patient and kind. Her calm demeanor is evident within minutes of meeting her. We have a cat who has shown she is not the happiest with new people in her home, but needs daily meds. Alma went the extra mile to ensure Wynnie was comfortable, but most importantly, took her much needed medication. Thank you so much, Alma!

Gillian is an extremely dependable and astute individual, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. From the moment she met my pups, it was clear she truly gets animals, she’s attentive, patient, and so loving with them. She kept me updated with the sweetest photos and notes, and I came home to two happy, calm, well cared for pups. You can tell she goes above and beyond in every little detail. I had complete peace of mind the entire time and will absolutely be booking with her again. Highly, highly recommend Gillian to anyone looking for someone they can truly trust!

I had such a great experience with Annie while I was away on vacation. She took such amazing care of Ripley and paid close attention to every little detail, making sure she was comfortable, happy, and well cared for the entire time. You can truly tell how much she genuinely cares for animals through the love and attention she gives them. I felt completely at ease knowing my dog was in such good hands, and I’m so thankful for all the playtime, care, and updates she provided. Highly recommend! Will book again!
Ashley is a dedicated and caring pet sitter! My cat loved her and got some excellent quality time and enrichment from her visits. Ashley showed up and sent updates and photos every day. She is also diligent about asking questions to ensure the best care for your pets. Highly recommended.

Kathryn is seriously such a life saver. I had a flight delay, and desperately needed someone to let my dog out. She saved the day by doing a same day drop-in visit. She was there within an hour! She is extremely responsive, and followed instructions with care. My dog Koala took a liking to her. I will be booking with her in the future.

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
You and your sitter can agree on a care schedule that fits your pet’s routine and the sitter’s availability. Pet Sitting can be booked as a one-time or recurring drop-in visit. If you need overnight care or dog walks, you may also be able to book House Sitting or Dog Walking through Rover with the same sitter, provided they offer those services.
Before booking, confirm:
- the timing, length, and frequency of visits;
- the care instructions the sitter should follow;
- which parts of your pet’s usual routine should be prioritized;
- how often you would like to receive messages, photos, or other updates.
Not every sitter offers the same services, availability, or booking options. Review their profile and discuss the care you need through Rover before booking each service.
If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poop breaks occurred. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available 24/7 by email or chat if you have concerns.
The personalized, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.
Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a lockbox. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalized codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.
If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page.
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee, which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
A Meet & Greet is a casual meeting to vet potential sitters and communicate care needs for peace of mind before a booking begins. Only sitters who have never booked with you before can schedule a Meet & Greet on Rover; however, you are welcome to coordinate one in Rover messages with sitters you have previously booked. This can be helpful if you have a new pet or routine you want to go over with your sitter.
Meet & Greets can take place in person or virtually. If you are booking with a sitter for the first time, we recommend in-person Meet & Greets to get a clearer sense of how your sitter interacts with your pet or the new environment.
During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Meet & Greets are a great way to prepare your pet and sitter for longer stays or first-time bookings. Read our tips for your first Meet & Greet.
sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their contact information. Sitters may set a same-day, one-, three-, or seven-day cancellation policy. Cancelling within your sitter’s cancellation policy qualifies you for a full refund.
Same-day cancellations for recurring services, which include walks, drop-ins, and day care, follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for pet boarding and house sitting, if you cancel after 12 pm on the applicable cancellation deadline, you’ll receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for any remaining days.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means you will get a full refund and our support team will work with you to find a replacement sitter.
