About: Hi, I’m Steve — a lifelong animal lover who has been caring for pets for neighbors, friends, and family for as long as I can remember. Animals have always been a huge part of my life. When I was younger, I volunteered at Roaring Brook Nature Center, where I helped care for everything from snakes and lizards to owls, possums, ferrets, and chinchillas. As I got older, my passion for animals took me even farther — all the way to a wildlife preserve in South Africa, where I spent time helping with game drives, tracking wildlife, and learning just how important compassionate, attentive care is for every living creature. Recently, I was laid off after dealing with a back injury, and I decided it was finally time to return to what brings me happiness: being around animals and helping people feel confident their pets are safe, comfortable, and loved. I’m patient, gentle, reliable, and I treat every animal like they’re my own. Whether your pet needs walks, attention, playtime, or just someone calm and caring to keep them company, I’m here to help and to make sure they feel secure and happy. I’d love the chance to care for your furry family member. I was recently laid off due to ongoing spine problems. My doctor said that keeping mobile is the best thing for me right now, so I figured that spending my time around animals and walking outdoors is a great option for me to continue healing and to have a source of income. I will focus nearly all of my time towards this work as I am unemployed at the moment. I am a big believer in gaining the trust of your pet first. So a slow approach and getting down on their level to allow them to smell and gain trust is important to me. I also love to communicate with animals in a high pitch baby voice as to not be intimidating. I am quite a large man so I feel the baby voice helps with the more skiddish of animals. Sometimes a stern voice may be needed needed given the situation, but almost never used. Your pets will get the exact same love and affection that my pets get every day because they deserve nothing but love.
“Kelli was a great cat-sitter for our three cats. She was dedicated and made sure to spend time with all of them. One of our cats needs medication twice a day and she was able to administer it to her easily. She also played with our two younger cats, who love attention. When we came home, they appeared well taken care of. Would definitely book her again!”

“Sarah was an incredible caretaker for our cat over the week we were away! She has a keen intuition that allows her to adjust her activities and how she approaches new cats during visits in ways that meet them where they’re at and helps them feel comfortable more quickly. She was super communicative, sending detailed updates and photos each day, and troubleshooted some feeding issues and even helped rectify the chaos our cat created with some houseplants while we were gone! It was clear from photos that our cat loved her visits and warmed up to her very quickly. Her love of animals and ability to care for them well is obvious and we came back to a very happy cat. We’d highly recommend her services!! Thank you Sarah!”

“Joseph is great! This was our first time using Rover. Our cat Walter loved him! Joseph was always on time and sent us photos and updates promptly! Highly recommend”

“So appreciative of Grace and her care for my furbabies while I was away. I loved her check-ins and sweet photos she took of them and knew they were in great hands!!! Highly recommend!!”

“Olivia was fantastic! Don't hesitate to use her to watch any of your furry friends! She was quick to respond to any requests, very responsive and sent me pics of my dog each time she came. Highly recommend!!”

About: With over 10 years of experience as a dog owner and a year of caring for a cat, my deep love for animals drives everything I do. Having worked at Valley Shore Animal Welfare Center and currently working at Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter, I’ve gained hands-on experience caring for a wide variety of animals and understanding their unique needs. From energetic puppies to laid-back seniors, I know how to adjust walks, feeding routines, and enrichment activities to keep every pet comfortable, happy, and well cared for. I am committed to providing safe, engaging walks, following your pet’s routine with care, and most importantly, making them feel loved and cherished while you're away. You can have peace of mind knowing your furry friend is in great hands. My work schedule varies from month to month. For June, I work Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM, so I am unavailable during those hours. Outside of that time, I am happy to accommodate pet care requests whenever possible. Weekdays: Flexible mornings and evenings (e.g., 7 AM–10 AM & 4 PM–8 PM) Weekends: Most of the day (e.g., 9 AM–6 PM)- Flexible Last-Minute Requests: Often available for short notice visits/walk I care for pets with the same love and attention as I would my own, whether in my home or yours. When caring for pets in your home, I make sure they feel comfortable and secure by sticking to their familiar routines, whether it’s feeding, walking, or playtime. I always ensure they get plenty of love and attention, so they never feel lonely or stressed.
“Emily dropped in once a day to check on our two cats for several days while we were away. She is EXCELLENT with communication. We never had a doubt that our cats werent getting enough love with Emily. 10/10 would ask Emily to cat-sit again! Thanks Emily!”

About: My first “job” was dog sitting when I was in first grade. I included snuggling them every night in my promise to owners, and to this day nothing has changed. I work at the children’s hospital as a pediatric audiology extern from 7:30 am-6 pm every day. I would love to dog walk on weekday evenings and I am available to pet sit and dog walk on weekends. Pets’ safety is always the number one priority. With me, your pet will never be unattended or in dangerous situations. I also value other people’s space and home.

About: Trustworthy, local, and attentive, I have done pet care for family and friends over the course of many years. Having been certified in cat and dog first aid by the Red Cross, I'm equipped to handle an emergency if it occurs. From running with dogs to cuddling with cats, I'm happy to spend time with your furry family members! I work remotely full-time, which allows me a lot of flexibility for drop-ins that are close to home. I can visit anytime during the day, but prefer mornings or evenings to check in on pets. When taking are of pets, I like to build a rapport with them first to get a sense of their personality. Pets are part of the family, after all! Once we've built some trust, I take care of business first (make sure food and water is prepared, bathroom breaks completed/litter boxes emptied), then save time for playing!

Sarah is always incredibly professional, communicative, and gives the best drop-in notes and photos! Always our go-to when we need someone to take care of our two cats and dog. Extra bonus points for always being able to medicate the weirdest, feistiest cat in the world!!!

Phoenix was incredible! Absolutely the best cat sitter that we've ever had! He was very attentive to our cat's needs, and he provided such detailed and thoughtful updates every day. Our cat bonded with him so easily. He fed her well, played with her, and kept her litter box very clean. More so, he's a really kind, considerate, honest, and communicative person. So grateful that we found him, and would 1000% recommend him to anyone looking for a pet sitter.

Dustin is the absolute best! It’s only because of him I was able to leave for two weeks and enjoy time with my loved ones for the holidays. He is trustworthy, consistent, and reliable. He was patient with my girl, Marshmallow, and accommodated to her needs. My family and I are so grateful for Dustin, and I plan to rebook him in the future.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your cat, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in East Haven. On Rover:

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
