“Ashley took care of our beloved Murphy expertly. She always provided pictures and updates to us. She was also available wherever we needed to talk on the phone. While she house sat and took care of our cat, she also watered all our plants and our home was spotless after our week-long vacation. We would highly recommend Ashley to care for any of your fur babies and home.”

About: I’ve grown up with many cats and different types of dog's. I had a dog that was 19 years old and have been self training my current dog since I got him. Im currently a student at Chico State so I have plenty of time after classes and school. I have plenty of time to walk and play with your pets after 2pm on most weekdays. I make sure there’s no way to escape or places that can hurt your pet if it gets in those places. I would make sure to be attentive and make sure I know what they’re up to.
“We loved having Rachel look after our cat and home while we were out of town. She kept us updated with plenty of pictures of our cat and took good care of our home—we were only gone for two nights and she left our house cleaner than when we went out of town. She took the time to learn how to administer our cat’s hairball medicine and was super flexible with all of our asks for cat- and house-sitting, like brining in our trash bins, etc. We’re so glad to have found a great pet sitter in the area & will definitely be requesting to schedule her again in the future!”

About: I’ve been caring for pets for over 4 years and truly love working with animals. I have experience taking care of dogs of all sizes and ages, including small dogs, large dogs, senior dogs, and puppies. I understand that every pet has different needs and personalities, and I always make sure they feel safe, comfortable, and loved. I’ve also cared for cats for about a week at a time, helping with feeding, playtime, and keeping them company while their owners were away. I’m patient, dependable, and will care for your pets like they’re my own. WEEK OF JULY 19 WORK SCHEDULE: Wed: 4pm-9pm, Thurs: 4pm-9pm, Fri: 5pm-10pm, Sat: 4pm-9pm I am currently working part time. I am able to stay overnight on weekends (will be notified if I get scheduled by work instead). I have free time to come check on dogs every few hours and give them lots of love and attention. Also depending on my schedule I can work during the week. I’m a college student but I’m on summer break so no need to worry about my school schedule! Your pet’s safety and comfort are always my top priorities. I make sure pets are supervised, well cared for, and given plenty of attention throughout the day. I always follow feeding schedules, walking routines, and any special instructions carefully. I keep a clean, calm, and pet-friendly environment so your furry friend can feel safe, relaxed, and loved while you’re away.
About: I have a deep passion for animal and plant care. My experience comes from many years as a dedicated farm hand and caregiver for pets of friends & family. My schedule is most available on the weekends Fri-Mon. Week days are flexible and can be accommodated, but availability is not guaranteed due to scheduling conflicts. Attention and focus of caring for each animals needs are the highest priority. Ensuring their well being and happiness. Walks & running, play, food and water

“We are so grateful for Emiko and Trask! One of our pups takes a long time to warm up to new folks, and Emiko left us regular updates and worked slowly with her to build trust. Our home and our pets were so well taken care of. I hope we can book them again soon!”

“Avery is a treasure—so considerate of our home, with all of the quirks, and our giant breed dog, with all of his special needs, medication, feeding, and helping him feel safe and secure while we’re gone. We hope to continue regular drop ins and house sitting in the new year. Thank you, Avery!”

“Alyson was fantastic. We have three dogs, two of which are older and she took amazing care of them. She administered medicine, gave us constant status updates and took care of our pets and home as it if was hers. She will definitely be our sitter moving forward and can't say enough good things about her.”

About: Taking care of a dog's physical comfort and well-being makes them happy, which makes me happy! Having grown up with dogs in the house, I started training my own dog at the age of nine. Being my own boss means I create time to be blessed by the presence of your dogs. While housesitting for you, your home and animals are my only concern. In your home, I feed, water, brush, and play with your dogs. If you like, I can also bathe your precious. During our walks we do a little bit of training. Rather than offering treats, I utilize praise as their reward for a job well done.
About: I’ve been around all kinds of dogs since I was young. I have always loved being around dogs(and cats!), I definitely bond better with animals than humans. I love my mini Australian shepherd, Ollie, with my whole entire heart, and I would love your pets as well💕 I work part time, so I am available pretty much always! The days I work, it is from 5:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. so I would have the rest of the day to hang with your animals! Now that summer is here and school is over, my availability is even more open. I am able to follow any expectations or requests left concerning your pets! I will not be boarding other’s pets in my own home however, I am only available for home stay in overnight situations.
The median cost per night for house sitting in Chico is $50
Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Chico
there’s not enough positive things I can say about this amazing girl! Not only with my home more clean than when I left, my dogs were more clean. Her communication was amazing, she checked in and asked for things when she needed them. She’s amazing. Hire her if you want to feel safe with your home and your pets in someone’s hands. Thank you so much for everything.

Lily is so awesome and super sweet! Took great care of our two dogs while we were out of town. We have an older dog who needs some extra attention and Lily handled her no problem! Also communication was perfect. She did daily check ins with photos. We will be using her services more throughout our summer travels.

I was initially skeptical about booking through Rover, but Tyler quickly put my mind at ease. He took the time to do a meet and greet beforehand, asked thoughtful questions about Jade's routine and personality, and it was immediately clear he was experienced and genuinely cared about dogs. The best endorsement I can give is that Jade was glued to him from the moment they met. While I was away, Tyler sent regular updates and photos, was always quick to respond, and I could tell Jade was happy, comfortable, and well cared for. Tyler's professionalism, attention to detail, and connection with dogs really stood out. As an added bonus, he took great care of my home and left everything in excellent condition. I would happily book with Tyler again and highly recommend him to anyone looking for a reliable and experienced dog sitter.

Sariah is awesome and she made the process very smooth. It was my first time using Rover and she worked with me to iron out details. She was very patient, kind, and obviously content to take care of my old weiner dog. Overall it was an easy and worry -free experience.

Susan is a wonderful house and dog sitter! She spent quality time with our little dog and kept the house super neat and tidy. She is responsible, professional, and pays attention to details. We will definitely continue to use her services when we go out of town!

Aly is the BEST!!!!! I have all rescue pets, which means they can be challenging at times. We have 3 large dogs, 4 cats, 2 horses and 6 chickens. Their ages range from 1 year old minions (kittens) to seniors. We also live outin the country which can be a challenge and of course our new well pump had an issue. Aly handled it better than I!😆 The best compliment I can give is that when we came home, all the kids were excited to see us, but all were acting normal and happy, not like the usual "you abandoned us" attitude. Bonus, Aly even washed her own sheets (not something I would have asked her to do or expected). Again, she's the BEST!!!!

Sheryl was absolutely wonderful! We have booked with Rover for around 15 years and she has been the best so far. Sheryl was very communicative during our 6 week absence and shared lots of pictures of Shiloh and let us know how things were going. We never worried once! The biggest "tell" that showed how great she was with Shiloh was that, of course, Shiloh was very excited to see us, but also very calm. No trauma at all for being gone 6 weeks. Sheryl was also kind enough to fill my outside bird feeders and offered to water or do anything else needed. Oh, and all my houseplants survived and thrived! We will definitely ask Sheryl again without hesitation.

Avery is a treasure—so considerate of our home, with all of the quirks, and our giant breed dog, with all of his special needs, medication, feeding, and helping him feel safe and secure while we’re gone. We hope to continue regular drop ins and house sitting in the new year. Thank you, Avery!

FAQs for House Sitting - Chico
Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Chico on Rover is $44.4 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 263 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Chico. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Chico walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Chico maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Chico choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Chico. On Rover:
- 92% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 83% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
