“This is our second time using Melanie to look after Scotch and this time we booked house sitting as we were away for few days. She gave us updates throughout the day and sent photos of their walks. Scotch does not get warmed up to strangers and he definitely loves Melanie. We trust Melanie with our dog and our house! We will book her again with no questions asked.”

“Jenn took amazing care of our dog and home. Rosie just loves her. Lots of walks, cuddles and good company. Jenn is a great communicator. Highly recommend Jenn, we will book with her again and again.”

“Anne did a fabulous job looking after Ollie. I arrived home after 7 days away to a happy and well cared for dog. My house was left by Anne in the same condition I left it for her. She kept me informed every day, of Ollie’s activities and sent me pictures of him so I could see for myself how he was. I would have Anne back when I travel again and would have no hesitation in recommending her.”

“Yanqi was amazing with Crusoe. Not once did I need to check in for photos or updates as these were sent regularly throughout the day. We returned home to a totally relaxed and chilled out pup who clearly had a great time with his pet sitter. Our place was clean and tidy and most importantly, our precious boy was well loved and cared for. Will definitely be booking Yanqi in the future as the peace of mind we had allowed us to enjoy a family break together.”

“We needed care for our two dogs while we were getting married, and after thoroughly researching available house and dog sitters, I knew Lorin was the right choice. Her glowing reviews initially caught my attention, but meeting her in person truly put me at ease. Lorin's thorough preparation for the 3+ day stay, coupled with her warm demeanor, reassured us that our dogs were in great hands. Throughout her stay, she sent us daily updates and photos, sharing details that kept us completely at ease. Thanks to Lorin, we were able to fully enjoy our wedding rehearsal, dinner, wedding day, and reception without a single worry about our pups. Her exceptional care and professionalism mean we’ll likely plan our future vacations around her availability. I can't recommend her highly enough!”

About: Most of my pet care experiences are from owning lizard and fishes. But 5 months ago, I started dog walking and I recently adopted a cat and I realized how much I enjoyed being around furry friends ✨️😊 Since it's my summer break from college, I would love to use this as opportunity to enjoy my summer break with furry friends while earning money. When I'm walking my dog client, I make sure he gets his exercise by playing catch, walking, playing with other dogs, exploring, and I make sure to keep him safe. I make sure my cat at home also gets his playtime with me, make sure his bowls are cleaned every time I refill his bowl for food and water 😊
“Another great week of our Athena with Jeff and Raissa. We returned to happy and healthy dog, house sparkling clean, and flowers for us!!!! Jeff is extremely loving and caring towards dogs. Athena had 24 hours attention from both of them and this constant presence of someone in the house definitely made up for our absence (we highly appreciate it). We have mountains of proof that she was in best hands. He let her abuse him and snuggled in his bed (which she's not allowed to do with us) and we find it so sweet and loving act on Jeff's part. Jeff adjusts to what a dog needs, not the other way around. He understands that the owner's absence is disturbing to a pet and he does all to make up for it. When we returned from vacation, Athena didn't show any signs of distress, moved back into her routine with us smoothly and this is the best testimony that her week was also relaxed.. Thank you Jeff and till the next time.”

About: I’ve spent lots of time with all kinds of pets, from playful puppies to older pets who need extra care. I’m really patient and make sure every pet feels safe and loved while I’m looking after them. I have plenty of available time to watch your pets since I don’t have a job right now. I’ll be starting my summer job soon, and I’ll update my availability once that changes! I make sure pets are safe and comfortable by getting rid of anything that could be dangerous and keeping the place clean. I will also make sure to follow the owner’s instructions and keep an eye on the pets to make sure they’re happy and relaxed. I also like to keep the owner updated so they know that their pet is in good hands.
“Xenia stayed at our place over the weekend to care for our dog and she was fantastic! She sent us photos and videos throughout the day to keep us updated and was respectful of the space. We’d be happy to have her care for Millie any time :)”

“Angelica was fantastic with our 3 angels! Her communication was spot on and we could have a wonderful 2 weeks away with knowing that our dogs were in fantastic hands. Thanks for going the extra mile with taking care of some household items over and above. I will for sure recommend her!”

About: I have been taking care of dogs since I was 15. Whether it be my grandmas, our families or friends, I have been responsible to walk, feed and bathe them for years. I work from home and have a flexible schedule to take breaks during work hours to walk your pups or as well as in the early morning or evening. Establishing trust between myself and the dog is the most important. Firstly, I stay calm and allow for some time and space to reassure them I’m not threatening and establish familiarity. I provide regular check-ins for ease of mind and work to establish a regular routine for the animals in my care. I am passionate about animal care and find it sincerely therapeutic.
“Mark stayed at hour home and watched our Bullmastiff for a few days. He was respectful of our home and took good care of our dog, following all of our instructions and keeping us updated each day. I would be happy to hire him again.”

“Yingxue did such a fantastic job. She even came earlier than requested . We left the whole house overnight with her to take care of my 2 furry babies. She took my little one to sleep with her. I have no doubt that she will always take care of your pet diligently. I hightly recommend her 100% . Thank You”

“Mary was an excellent choice for house sitting and pet sitting with our dog! She sent us daily updates and made sure our pup was getting lots of love and attention while we were away. We will definitely be asking her to dog sit when we are away next!”

About: Had my family doggo for over 7 years but sadly passed. Lived with 2 puppies in my student house in university so I have some experience with training and taking care of puppies. I am unable to have a dog in my current living situation but would love to provide quality pet care to other doggos. Love to take your pup out for some exercise and play to boost both our moods. Current availability is wide open! I also have a car so I can easily travel to and from to take care of your pet. Let me know what times or days work best for you and we can make it work Can provide accommodations when staying in your home to best suit your needs as well as your pets. Current living situation does not work well with in home boarding ( Guinea pigs as pets and no yard)
“Ruiyan and her partner are awesome. They brought treats over, were very patient with my dog and really made him feel comfortable. Will definitely book again and highly recommend.”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Oakville
It was easier to leave our dog and two cats for a week, knowing Alicia would be staying with them. Alicia is lovely. She is friendly, trustworthy, tidy, responsible, and, most importantly, loving to our pets. She came for pre stay walks with the dog, to help him feel comfortable with her. A very positive experience.
We were thrilled to have Jennifer back to look after Esme who was so excited to have a visit with her friend. Jennifer takes wonderful care of our dog and keeps us updated while we are away, for which we are most appreciative. We will be happy to have Jennifer back again :)

Bonnie was absolutely amazing with Biscuit! From the very beginning, she was kind, professional, and clearly has such a natural love for animals. She kept us updated with photos and messages, which gave us complete peace of mind while we were out. Biscuit was happy, well cared for, and clearly adored spending time with her. We will definitely be booking with her again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy and wonderful dog sitter!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Oakville on Rover is $66.6 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 4,222 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Oakville. Enter your postal code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Oakville maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Oakville walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Oakville choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.
If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:
- 81% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 89% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 97% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
