“Jared stayed over night with our dog Moose. He was very communicative, sent constant picture updates and was also very flexible on timing. He made sure Moose was well taken care of. We will definitely use Jared for any future needs for Moose.”

“Elissa is the BEST! My poor girl was very anxious and confused when she first came over, and she handled her so well. She was patient and loving, and I appreciated that she kept me informed. An added bonus- When I got home, the house was spotless and looked like I never left! Your fur babies will be in amazing hands with Elissa!”

“Hunter was really accommodating when we got sick while trying to schedule our meet & greet for a last minute trip. She did great with the dogs & allowed us a stress free weekend away!”

About: I’ve been taking care of pets my entire life! I grew up with multiple golden retrievers, and have been a pet sitter for multiple repeat clients over the years. I am a remote 3D artist which allows me to work from anywhere. This means I am able to give lots of attention to your pets! Pets are family, so I want to treat your pet with the same amount of love and care that you would. I’m thorough with note taking to make sure your pet gets the care they need.

About: I have 2 dogs and 2 cats. I have lots of experience feeding, walking, and taking care of them! I also have experience with senior animals! Mostly available evenings and weekends. I will work with you to schedule times that work for you and your animals. I will be as flexible as possible! For dogs, I can walk, feed, play with them, and give them medicine if needed. For cats, I can play, feed, change litter boxes, and make sure they are happy!

“Hayley did a wonderful job watching our two dogs. They had lots of snuggles and attention. She sent lots of pictures and I felt relaxed at my wedding knowing my fur babies were well taken care of in their own home. Highly recommend her!”

About: I have taken care of a wide variety of different animals my whole life. Dogs, cats, parrots, ferrets, rodents, and even farm animals. I have helped foster over a dozen dogs of different ages through Beacon of Light Animal Rescue from puppies to seniors. I have experience with timid animals, and many tend to take a liking to me quickly. My schedule is fairly open. As long as all of the dates are planned, I will put them in my schedule if they are available. I will follow the instructions set for all the animals I am caring for. Times for letting them out, changing pads, and feeding them whenever they need to be fed.

“Jonathan is very friendly and responsive. He met the dogs ahead of time, and they took to him right away. Our three dogs are elderly, and two of them need a bit more care such as special diets and meds. This was completely fine with Jon. Upon coming back, we find our three old pups bright eyed and bushy tailed!! Very grateful to Jon for his help while we were away!”

“Midori was 100% reliable and took wonderful care of our two dogs for the week we were away. We got daily photos and updates which made us more comfortable about leaving them for such a long time. She stayed over at night so they weren’t alone and everything was neat and tidy when we returned. We highly recommend Midori for any pet sitting needs.”

About: Hi! I’m Meghan! Lifelong animal lover, experienced pet sitter, nurse, NP student, and very proud mom to a house full of four-legged chaos aka my “zoo”. 🐾 Animals have quite literally always been part of my life. I have 25+ years of experience caring for dogs and 18+ years caring for cats, and I’ve been pet sitting through Rover since my early college days. At home, I have four pets of my own: three cats and one dog, so I completely understand that our pets aren’t “just pets.” They’re family, and leaving them with someone else requires a whole lot of trust. I offer drop-in visits, dog walking, and house sitting, and I’m comfortable caring for pets of all ages, personalities, sizes, and energy levels… from wild little puppies who think everything is a snack to sweet senior pets who prefer a slower pace and some extra TLC. ❤️ As a registered nurse, I’m calm, dependable, detail-oriented, and very comfortable following specific care instructions. I can administer oral AND IM medications, accommodate special feeding routines, and provide attentive care for senior pets or animals who need a little extra patience and monitoring. My schedule is also a little different than your typical 9–5! I currently work about 24 hours per week as an ER nurse while also attending school, which gives me flexibility for daytime visits, odd hours, walks, and varying schedules. If your pet has a routine, I’ll do my best to keep it feeling as normal as possible while you’re away. And yes, I’m absolutely the sitter who will send you way too many pictures and updates. 😂📸 I want you to be able to enjoy your trip, workday, or time away knowing your babies are safe, happy, loved, and probably being spoiled. What you can expect from me: 🐶 25+ years of dog experience 🐱 18+ years of cat experience 🐾 10+ years Longtime Rover sitter 💊 Comfortable administering oral & IM medications 👵 Senior pet care 🍼 Puppy & kitten care 🦮 Dog walking & exercise 🏡 Drop-ins & house sitting ⏰ Flexible availability, including odd hours 📸 Plenty of photos and updates ❤️ Lots of patience, cuddles, playtime, and individualized attention Every animal has their own personality, routine, quirks, and favorite things and getting to know those little details is honestly one of my favorite parts of pet sitting. Whether your dog needs an adventure buddy, your cat needs someone to respectfully earn their approval from across the room, or your senior baby just needs a calm companion while you’re away, I’d love to be their new favorite sitter. 🐾❤️ I truly couldn’t imagine life without animals, and I’ll care for yours just like I do my own. I also promise to send you an obscene number of adorable photo updates, because let’s be honest, your pets are way too cute not to share. 🐶🐱💕 Pet care is truly built into the rhythm of my everyday life! I start each morning with breakfast for my crew. Everyone has their own food, routine, and needs (including medications), so I’m very used to managing individualized care. Dinner is served right at 5PM, and I take pride in keeping everything consistent and stress-free for them. My favorite part of the day? Cuddle time—whether we’re curled up on the couch or relaxing outside together, those moments are pure magic. For my dogs, daily walks and park trips are a must! We’re lucky to have a great open space nearby where they can run freely, sniff everything in sight, and just be dogs. Caring for pets isn’t a chore for me—it’s one of the most joyful, grounding parts of my day. Whether they have paws, whiskers, or wagging tails, they’re family. Safety and trust are always my top priorities when caring for pets, whether I’m stopping by for a quick visit, going on a walk, or staying overnight in your home. In your home, I aim to keep your pet’s routine as normal and comforting as possible. I follow all care instructions to the letter, from feeding schedules and medications to favorite hiding spots and potty routines. I always double-check that doors are locked, gates are secure, and your pet is happy and safe before I leave. For walks, I use secure harnesses or collars, avoid high-traffic areas, and stay alert to your pet’s comfort level. No matter the service, I treat your home and your pets with the same respect and care I give my own. My goal is to create a calm, loving environment that your pet feels safe in—because when you’re away, they deserve to feel at home.
“Mae was an excellent sitter for our beloved pup and took great care of our home! It was the first time leaving our dog with someone outside our family and we are so happy with how well Mae cared for her. We are already excited to rebook with Mae in the future!”

“Janessa is amazing and so trustworthy!!! She watched our 2 dogs while we were away and we didn’t have to worry at all. She provided just enough updates and we came home to a clean house! Would highly recommend Janessa”

“Pros: Professional , flexible & timely My dog seemed to really enjoy cuddling with him. No cons: I’ll ask more next time for feedback how she was, what activities they did (play or walk?) etc.”

“This is my second time having Sarah stay with my dogs- she is communicative, sends cute update pictures and is super kind and flexible. She took great care of our babies and would definitely book again!”

About: You know that person animals just gravitate towards because they feel calm and safe? That’s me. A lifelong dog and cat owner, I've also fostered kittens and puppies for 10 yrs through the Animal Rescue League in Boston. I’m comfortable with animals of all sizes and ages. I have a Great Pyrenees mix and used to have a Bernese, and was a longtime foster of a pair of chihuahua mixes. I've bottle-fed kittens, and given senior pets their meds (and slow walks). I’m an active mom of 5 grown human kids, so patience is my middle name. Professionally, I’m a work-from-home journalist (higher ed, travel) and happy to work from yours if your animal wants more companionship than just a drop-in visit. See photos of kittens, puppies and bunnies serving as editorial muse beside my laptop. I work from home and have a fairly flexible schedule, can do drop in visits or even work from your home for the day while hanging out with your pet(s). Let's talk about your needs! Animals know the people they can trust -- they might be entertained by pizzaz, but they sidle up against the calm, patient, consistent presence. That's me. I'm a mom of 5 nearly-grown children, so I understand order and systems, and will be a quick learner of yours.

“Tashani was literally the best -- she was super communicative and sent through daily updates about Libby & Cinder! We got back from a week-long trip to a clean house, happy animals, and a flourishing garden. We'll definitely work with Tashani for future trips!!”

“Katie is truly the best. She took care of our pit bull and our sphynx, plus our best friend’s older pit who has mobility issues, anxiety, and a pretty involved medication routine. Managing all three could not have been easy, but she handled everything with so much care and attention. We’ve used Katie multiple times and she’s always reliable, communicative, and incredibly trustworthy. She keeps us updated with messages and photos, takes great care of our home, and most importantly makes sure our pets are happy, comfortable, and well cared for. It gives us so much peace of mind knowing they’re in such good hands. This was our third time working with Katie and we wouldn’t hesitate to book her again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a dependable and compassionate sitter.”

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Barkhamsted walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Barkhamsted maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Barkhamsted choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Barkhamsted. On Rover:
- 95% of sitters can help with special care needs

- 96% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
